Libros / Books: "Desde mi cielo (The Lovely Bones) de Alice Sebold.

I'm back with another book review, this time with a book I've read in digital format, my first read using my brand-new Sony PRS-T1, my early-received Christmas present from Marian which I blogged about a while ago.

The truth is I'd been wanting to read this for a while. This time I read the Spanish translation, though I might re-read this in the original one day. I'd also watched the film directed by Peter Jackson.

'The Lovely Bones' tells the story from the point of view of Susie Salmon, a teenager murdered at the hands of her neighbour. Susie cannot move on and say goodbye to the world of the living, partly because she still wants to be part of their lives and partly because she needs her killer to be captured. Her brutal murder is still unsolved and her body remains to be found, which is pushing Susie to try and stop her family and friends from forgetting her, despite the years.

From heaven, Susie watches her younger siblings getting old and living experiences she has been forever robbed of. She also witnesses how her family is unable to cope and breaks up over time and the lack of advances in her murder case investigation.

This is a highly recommended read, with an unexpected narrator who'll make you go through her own emotions, her love but also her rage and hopelessness.
The author does not shy away from dealing with violence, either physical or sexual. In fact, she was raped as a teenager herself, a topic she deals with in another book.
She does not focus so much on the thriller/investigation bit, but on the family tragedy, a wise move imo.

¿Lo habéis leído? ¿Qué os pareció?
Have you read it? Did you like it?

;) Nice to read you in Spanish too.
