UDLS/NOTW: Essence 'Mystic Lilac' (Wild Craft LE).

Hi, my beauties:

I hope you're having a very Merry Christmas. We've been very busy these days, so we've left the blog unattended for a while.
But you know these days are perfect to be spent with family, so enjoy.

Now I'm showing you my most recent mani, although I actually sported this about two weeks ago.

First of all, meet the 'artists'.

I applied a coat of the calcium gel from Basic, and then another coat of this polish (a thick coat, for a better colour payoff), and Seche Vite on top to finish.

I removed it the fourth day, because it began chipping.

I've left the description of the shade of this polish at the end of this post, because this colour is quite hard for me to describe.
It's not really lilac (at least, that's what I think). I think it's a mix between a taupe and a purple.

If you find another way to describe this shade, please let me know. Any ideas will be very welcome.

We'll take this opportunity to send you our best wishes for 2013. May it be even better than this one.

Hi, my beauties:

It's just a quick post to wish you a Happy 2013, and we hope this new year will be much better than 2012, which is ending tonight. That's all we need.

A wish for the new year?
Health and work for everybody.

To end up this post, we're showing you a pic of an exhausted Molly, after delivering all our Christmas gifts.

Lots of kisses from Marox, Marian and Molly.

Hi there!

Here I am back again to share with you my latest read in Spanish. The original novel is in German and the title is 'Der Geschmack von Apfelkernen'. In English, you'll find it with the title 'The Taste of Apple Seeds'.

Prompted by the positive reviews I found of this novel by German author Katharina Hagena, I was eager to get started with this one, but let me tell you I found it... well, a bit meh.

Excerpt:

Following the death of Bertha, her three daughters  - Inga, Harriet and Christa- as well as her granddaughter Iris, meet each other again for the reading of Bertha's will. To everybody's surprise, Iris is now the sole owner of her granny's house and has to reach a decision on what to do with the property. Her first move is putting her grandmother's personal belongings in order.
Iris slowly rediscovers the rooms and every corner of her granny's delightful garden. She also puts together the story, both sweet and sour -as the taste of apple seeds- of three generations of women: Bertha, her granny, who lost her memory after taking a fall from the garden's apple tree; her mother Christa, who moved south when she married and kept away from the family; her aunt Inga, the prettiest of the three sisters and a professional photographer who's roamed the world for a living; and finally Harriet, the youngest, whose daughter's death changed her for ever. Iris discovers family secrets and seeks answers to yesterday's enigmas. Who were her aunts' great loves? What's the secret her eccentric granny kept? What really happened the night her cousin died in an accident?

I wasn't gripped by the story as much as I expected. In part, I took pains telling one character from the other. Now that I read the excerpt that I wrote above it does not seem such a feat, right? But my head was a mess, full of names and different stories I couldn't quite put together. I also found it difficult to warm to certain characters like Rosmarie, who is almost described as a living angel full of virtues when she seemed more of a witch to me.

In short, I was expecting something else entirely of this book. If you've read it or do so in the future, you might feel otherwise. Do let me know in the comments.

Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products (XI).

¡Hola!

Hi!
We're back with another mini-review featuring some of the products we're used up lately.

1- 'Azul de agua' body spray from Deliplus, available at Mercadona supermarkets: As you will know already, we love using this sort of products to leave our skin softly scented after a shower. We liked it very much and we don't rule out trying a different scent.

2- Konjac sponge from Deliplus (Mercadona supermarkets): after a few months of use - probably more than three- Marian, who used this the most, has decided to throw it away. According to *this* blogger's reply, there were some hints pointing out it the sponge's 'shelf life' had come to an end.

3- ICA horse shampoo (for veterinary use): Yes, we also jumped on that bandwagon (*here*), even if it was more like for the sake of trying it than because we needed it. Marian has enough her for herself and to give a few strands to our followers without going bald. Her hair grows really fast too, so she didn't notice anything special in that respect. She did get the feeling her hair was "cleaner" with this shampoo more than with others. Marox liked it very much for this reason as well. She did notice her hair growing faster. Will we repurchase? Well, we still have to use the one we bought for our mum, who after watching a few debates on TV about the topic, didn't dare use it again. And after using that second bottle up? We probably won't.
As an experiment, it wasn't bad, but to each its own.

4- 'Big Softy' solid shampoo from Bubbly/Bodyline: We're entirely happy about this one. We'll keep on repurchasing it. In fact, we have some backups.
Ever since we started using solid shampoos, we only use traditional ones when we go to the pool or on holiday.

5- 'Multi Action Smokey Eyes' mascara from Essence (Marian): well, I actually liked this very much. I bought it after seeing a favourable review on YT and I have not been disappointed in the least. It enhances lashes, it doesn't leavy clumps and lasts a good while, despite not being waterproof (I don't like waterproof mascaras, because it's really hard to remove them, and I look like a racoon).

Well, this is all for now.
I like this kind of posts more and more, because it means that we really finish some of the products we buy, lol.

Últimos pedidos de cosmética coreana / Latest Asian cosmetics orders

¡Hola!

No recibí ninguna muestra.

¿Os habéis animado con la cosmética coreana?
Hello!

Forgive us for being somewhat 'MIA' from the blog but between work and a certain family issue (nothing bad, don't worry), it was completely impossible for us to post more often. Today I'd like to share with you the latest Asian cosmetics we've ordered.

1- Hyaluronic Acid serum from Scinic: We haven't had the chance to try this yet because it was a request... from our mum. She was all worried because she'd noticed some minor wrinkles in her youthful early-seventies skin, so we told her to leave it in our hands.
We chose this over others as it was suitable for sensitive skin and she's had allergic reactions to face creams in the past.
Besides containing a highly-rich hyaluronic acid contentrate, it contains panthenol, vegetable oils, Dead Sea salts, aloe vera, licorice and chamomile extracts and many vitamins. On the other hand, it is alcohol and paraben free. It contains 30ml.
Application should be done over clean skin, mornings and nights, using 1-2 pumps of product and then massaged into the skin. My mother prefers applying three and is very pleased with the product so far. She's also using this religiously (unlike she often does).

Seller was newcre8tive and price was $20.99. It came well protected and shipping took about 10 days. Seller included one sample (pictured),

2 - Face sunscreen with SPF 50 from Innisfree: Also for our mum, though she hasn't tried it yet.
Its ingredients are ECOCERT certified and it is alcohol, artificial colourings and mineral oils free, among others. Seller's name was ehappyidea and I paid 19.99 USD. One sample was included.

3 - Tony Moly Intense Care Dual Effect Sleeping Pack: Bellogirl included a sample of this product and I liked it very much. I thought the product was somewhat different, being neither a night cream nor a mask. You can read our review with our first impressions of it *here*.
Seller included a sheet mask of the 'Aroma' variety.

4 - Etude House My Lash Serum: My first product from the brand. I don't have very thick lashes and felt like trying a product that promoted their growth without spending a fortune on it. I like the format, just like your everyday mascara, with is a lot more convenient and user-friendly than the only one I'd tried so far, the Abeñula. Seller name was bringbringshop and price was $6.85. No samples were included.

Have you jumped on the Korean skincare bandwagon?

UDLS / NOTW: Nails Inc 471 'New Burlington Place'

¡Hola!

Hi!
Want to see another of the polishes that I *bought* in Dublin? It belongs to the Nails Inc set that I purchased at TK Maxx, in St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre in Dublin.
In the pictures, I have a coat of the P2 base on. Once dry, two coats of this polish. Application was quite smooth, but not as breathtaking as with the other one I used. The colour screams Christmas to me. I topped this mani with one coat of the Essence BTGN top sealer.

I didn't keep an eye on how long this lasted on me, as I usually do.

Have you tried any Nails Inc. lacquers?

Forgive me for having neglected the travel-related posts, but with my work schedule finding the time to sit and write an entry is quite hard, especially the way I like it, the calm way.

In this first part of the series I'd like to introduce (if you don't know it already) Boots drugstores. Originally from the UK, they offer drugstore, perfumery and pharmacy items under the same roof.
They have a club card and usually have 3x2 offers in store for all customers.
My first impression was positive, though I quickly noticed it wasn't as budget-friendly as the epitome of European drugstores we've had the pleasure to visit so far, German DMs (Drogerie Markt).

The number of brands available in Irish Boots stores is smaller than in the UK. Most stores feature make-up brands like Barry M, 17 and No. 7 (Boots own brands) and Models Own, as well as famous household names like Rimmel, Max Factor, L'Oreal or Revlon. In one of the stores we checked out, they also had a Collection 2000 display, which is worth checking out for its budget-friendly prices and interesting products.
The offer in body care includes the famous Soap & Glory, known for its gorgeous pin-up packaging. In hair care, the offer includes John Frieda and many other products.

Boots are a good place to expand your brush collection, both with those offered by their own brand No.7 and also with the eco-friendly Ecotools ones or the more recent Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman from Pixiwoo.

Do you know these drugstores?

Primeras impresiones 'I love BB Light' de Peripera / First Impressions: 'I love BB Light' from Peripera

A few weeks ago we told you about our *second order* to Bello-girl's Ebay store, probably the most popular seller of Korean BB Creams. We already raved about the first product we tried, the blackhead peel-off mask from Holika Holika *here* and still had to give you our 2 cents on Marox's new BB Cream. We have both used it long enough to tell us our thoughts.

'I Love BB (Light) from Peripera' - Product highlights:

-SPF 50, making it one of the BB Creams with the highest sunscreen out there.
-Available in two shades: I Love BB Light (aka 'Light Beige') and 'I Love BB' (aka 'Natural Beige). Mine is the lightest of the two, as you see.
- Brightening effect, thanks to ingredients such as rice bran, liquorice and Vitamin C extracts.
- Moisturizing effect, thanks to aloe vera, Vitamin E et al.
- Sebum control -though people with oily skin might prefer other BB Creams with a lower sunscreen, as there are others best suited for oily-skinned people.
- It contains 50 ml and comes in a tube with a twist-off cap. Designed to release a small amount of product, to keep contamination to a minimum.

Marox opina:

No he probado con brocha, soy demasiado vaga.
Tan sólo he usado prebase facial una vez.

Marox says:

- I bought this BB Cream because, as much as I loved Missha Perfect Cover #21, I really felt like trying a different one. There are tons of them out there and this seemed to meet my demands: providing enough coverage to skip makeup entirely, good SPF and so on.
- I have combination skin, with almost no imperfections to cover but I do have black heads and large pores, mainly on my nose. I also suffer from occassional atopic dermatitis breakouts there. I have had no problems whatsoever with this -or others, for that matter- BB Cream.
- Despite the fact that BB Creams brands claim there is no need to use moisturizer underneath, I do apply one. In my case, I'm currently using the Essence MySkin cucumber cream-gel.
- I have applied this using my fingers first, and the result was a heavier coverage, perhaps a bit too much. I've also used my UBU Blender Baby sponge and I'm a lot more satisfied with the result, as it looks more natural. That being said, the sponge method requires using more product. I haven't tried any brushes for application, I'm far too lazy.
- Sebum control: Depending on how long I'm wearing this, how hot the weather is outside and so on, there comes a time when oil makes an appearance in my T-Zone. In order to keep it at bay a bit longer, I apply some translucent powder on top. I have only used a face primer underneath once.
- Shade: Really close to MPC21 imo. It matches my skintone very well and I didn't really notice a 'ghostly cast' when applying it. Do bear in mind, you will definitely look white if you have photos taken while wearing it, due to the high SPF.

Marian opina:

Marian thinks:

-I've borrowed this BB cream from marox a couple of times, and I really like it much. Its coverage is great: I have small spots and imperfections on the skin, apart from pores as big as Burgos, hehe..., and the truth is that it evens out the skin tone quite well.
-Now onto the toughest bit: sebum control. As I told you on previous posts, I have oily skin, so shine control is not easy for me, no matter what product I use. I've not been keeping an eye on when my skin turns shiny (I put my make-up on and go to work), but I'd say that maybe 3-4 hours, using my mattifying cream from Essence before BB cream/make-up, and translucent powder on top to seal.
Don't forget that creams with very high SPF are usually quite oily, but on my dermatologist's orders I must be very careful with my sun exposure (I have a lot of moles, and three of them had to be surgically removed), so the "shine" issue is the smallest of my problems.
To sum up, I don't rule out buying this BB cream for myself in the future, who knows.

Resumiendo:

In short:

If you're looking for a BB Cream similar to MPC in terms of coverage, sunscreen protection and so on, this can be a good choice. It's not very expensive -it is more expensive than Missha, though- as it's 18.99 USD on Bellogirl's Ebay store (aprox. €14.55) and contains 50ml that will last you a good while.

¿Alguna sugerencia?

What do you think of the Blemish Balm craze and Asian cosmetics in general? For us it's been a great find and with time, we'll surely try out other products. Actually, we've already added quite a few to our Ebay watchlist. Any suggestions?

Ideas de regalos de Navidad para bolsillos modestos / Christmas gift ideas for people on a budget (I)

¡Hola!

Hi!
In our family we're not in favour of waiting until the last minute to do our Christmas shopping. In fact, most of the presents we'll be giving this year had already been bought while others are on their way.

Magazines are full of Christmas gift /stocking stuffers ideas in their November and December issues. However, what they often refer to as 'budget-friendly ideas' do not most times see eye to eye with what most mortals understand by that term. It is not a question of being tightfisted, but more like using your imagination a bit and wrack your brains for ideas that suit the likes of the person getting the present. We hope they can be helpful ideas if you're doing a 'secret friend' gift thing at work as well.
Nowadays gift-giving is easier thanks to the Internet and the widespread use of online shopping. The possibilities are almost endless.

Shall we take a look at some of our ideas?
Read on, then.

For him:

-Micro Touch Max All-in-one Hair Trimmer: You've probably seen this on the home shopping channels, though you can find it a lot cheaper on Ebay. Seller's name was dedcitaly and was only $3.99, plus $2.70 for shipping. We hope our father likes it.

For men and women alike:

-Class 10 memory cards: We recently showed these to you *here*. If your digital camera makes HD or Full HD video, these are a must. They will prevent skips in the recording or the recording stopping altogether due to the low writing/reading speed of your storing device. Marox got hers at Amazon, but we just saw the SD ones on the latest Alcampo brochure in our mailbox: the 8GB one retailing at 9.99 EUR and the 16GB one at 15.99 EUR.

- Stylish/cute USB flash drives:
It's always good to have a few, they're available in different storage capacities (the bigger, the pricier) and some of the ones we show you are definitely not what they appear to be at first glance. You can find them on Ebay.

And these are the ones we've bought. One for Marox and the other one as a gift. The seller of the first one was zhonhai983 and price was GBP18, with free shipping. The second was purchased from the seller yupankou and price was USD26.57. Both are 64GB (the bigger the better, lol). The first flash drive comes in a much better packaging, as you can tell from the pics.

Asian cosmetics:

Many of us have already fallen in love with Asian cosmetics and skincare items. Everybody wants to look good and Korean products offer everything from Ecocert-certified face sunscreens, to hyaluronic acid face serums, affordable lash serums and many more.
Many of these brands like Innisfree, Etude House, Amore Pacific and Laneíge also have skincare lines for men with products like toners and multifunction moisturisers, as well as male BB Creams.

Electric toothbrushes:

The Three Wise Men will leave one of these for someone in our family. We chose the Trizone 500 from Oral B, purchased at AmazonSpain, together with a brush head refill pack. These apparently only require charging once a week and promise to take much better care of our teeth than traditional toothbrushes.

For wannabe photographers and technogeeks:

A second battery, neoprene lens pouches, filters, light boxes, etc.
Music players, E-reader cases,
Marox has bought a few of these for different gift-giving dates.

We hope the above ideas are useful. If you have others of your own, let us know in the comments.

UDLS/NOTW: Essence 'Oh my glitter!'.

Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,
Here I am again with a new mani.
This time, with the Essence polish in 'Oh my glitter!', a purple shade that has small blue and pink glitter.

I applied one coat of Nail Envy from OPI, and then two thin coats of this polish for a better coverage. After that, I applied Seche Vite on top to finish.

The pics you can see below were taken the second day of this mani, which remained intact until the third day, when small chippings appeared on my right thumb and index fingers.

The mani was completely ruined on the fourth day, so I removed it.

I think I can say without making a mistake that this is the first Essence polish I try from the new Colour&Go range.
The main difference with the old ones is the brush, wider and with a shape that allows you to reach the whole nail in one go.
Be careful with your little finger, because you could paint not just the nail, but the whole finger.

What do you think of these new polishes?

UDLS / NOTW: Una francesa diferente / French mani with a twist

Can't cheat on me.

Today I have a French mani that is a bit different from your everyday French. I used a gold polish for my tips *last time*, so I went for a silvery shade in this one instead.

Day 1: At night, I applied one coat of the Nail Envy that we *got* from Iris as a base and then, a generous one of one of the now discontinued old Colour & Go polishes from Essence, #36 Enchanted Fairy that Maria kindly included in one of our *swaps*. To give my tip a different look I painted them with another Essence, the holographic-ish #57 Can't Cheat on me. Topped it with one coat of the Essence BTGN top sealer.

Have you ever tried something similar? I personally prefer the golden version to this one.

Mi nueva cámara de fotos - Meet my new camera.

A favor:

I have lots of stuff to write about for the blog but very little time to do so lately. Among the isssues I still have to share with you is showing you my latest camera.
Actually this would be my third digital camera. I still have my first, a Prosumer Olympus SP-500 UZ which is quite nice, but is a bit cumbersome to use sometimes.

The camera I just bought will be replacing my beloved Samsung ES10, my faithful companion for almost three years. It still works but it was starting to act funny and since it requires standard batteries, I needed to have plenty of them whenever I went on holiday, wanted to shoot some video and so on.
With a price tag of less than €100, it's been a wonderful little gem, so I knew that would be my budget when choosing a replacement.

After much research among similar point-and-shoot cameras,  I chose the same brand, Samsung, given my positive experience with them. The model, ST66, was actually the first that caught my eye, despite the fact that there were a couple of things I wasn't too pleased about.

Basic info:

16 mpx
DIS
2'7" Screen (not a touchscreen)
5x Optical zoom
Weight: 101 g (without battery)
Available in 5 different colours.
Storage: micro-SD card.

Pros:

The kit included among other things, a second battery, which a must with these cameras imo.
It is budget-friendly yet quite impressive, featuring HQ pics and HD video (at 720p).
The 'Beauty Shot' feature is now a lot easier to locate in the menu.
Video feature enables zooming without going mute while filming.

Against:

Unlike most cameras, storage is done in a micro-SD memory card. It takes some getting used to, though micro's are a lot more delicate to handle.
Does not include a memory card (due to a printing error in the Hipercor brochure, it appeared to have one).
Does not have a dedicated Video button and therefore you need to shift from one mode to the other.
The Smart Auto feature does not always render the best results.
Just like with my previous Samsung, it sometimes needs forever to focus.

*Edit: When filming video, I usually got an error message saying 'The card (I'm using 8GB) is too slow' and recording paused. I looked into this thoroughly on the web and discovered not only memory size is important but also memory class. Therefore I got myself a couple of Class 10 memory cards, a 8GB and a 16GB one on Amazon.es. I've only tried the  16GB since I wasn't too sure that would work and fortunately it did and the problem is now solved.
I paid €9.06 for the 8GB and €16.04 for the 16 GB one.
The transaction at Amazon was flawless and as I signed up to their Premium service, shipping was free and I got my cards the following day. Price difference with Ebay was insignificant and I opted for having the cards as soon as possible and chose Amazon instead.

************

I bought this early in August and have already taken it on its first holiday to Ireland. It behaved like a champ. I hope it performs as nicely as my former Samsung.

Libros / Books: 'The Lonely Hearts Club' by Elizabeth Eulberg

¡Hola!

¿o no?

Hi!
I'm back with another book review, in this case featuring my latest read in English.
I read another novel by the same author a few months ago and liked it enough to give this first novel a try. You can read that review *here*.

Excerpt:
Love is all you need... or is it? Penny's about to find out in this wonderful debut.
Penny is sick of boys and sick of dating. So she vows: no more. It's a personal choice. . .and, of course, soon everyone wants to know about it. And a few other girls are inspired. A movement is born: The Lonely Hearts Club (named after the band from Sgt. Pepper). Penny is suddenly known for her nondating ways . . . which is too bad, because there's this certain boy she can't help but like. . . .

'The Lonely Hearts Club' is an unpretentious novel, targeted at a young audience especially. However, despite the fact that my high school years belong almost to the Dark Ages, I have enjoyed reading this book very much. Penny is a smart, fun and generous teenager with a somewhat different family. After suffering her first major disappointment in love, she promises herself that she deserves something better in life and would rather be alone to with someone unworthy of her. She'd better be with her friends and those feelings can be shared by many readers, regardless of their age.

In short, a nice, entertaining read that I finished in three-four days (probably the only advantage of the end of daylight saving time -DST- is that I get to read a bit in the morning before I get up).

Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products (X)

Hi again,

Here we are with a new post to talk about the products we have used up recently, and a short review about them.

¡Nunca!

1- Retractable eye pencil from P2.
This is undoubtedly the best eyeliner pencil I've tried so far. It costs less than €2 and is sold at German drugstores DM.
Pigmentation is outstanding also on the waterline, it's creamy and glides on perfectly.
I don't think that I'll ever have another one like this.
If I ever find this item at an online store which ships to Spain, I wouldn't rule out buying a new one. Until then I'll be using some eye pencils I left unused, and also that gel eyeliner from Alverde (the one I use to bring back to life with Kiko's Mixing Solution).

2- Exfoliating face cream from Dr. Brandt.
I showed it to you *here*, and I must say that I love it. I like it so much that I bought a new one, which I'll be using together with the Soap&Glory one that I bought in Dublin.

3- Body butter from Bubbly/Bodyline 'Flower Therapy Smoothie'.
It smells great, its application is fantastic and it spreads out really well and a little product goes a long way. I think this was €5.
We have another one from Bubbly with a different scent which we have not used yet. We'll be using other ones in the meantime (we still have a lot of unused ones).

4- 'Hydro matt' long-lasting make-up from Basic (Schlecker), in the shade 'Light'.
Well, there are three lies here: it's not matt, it's not long-lasting, and its shade is not light.
This is a bad beginning.
To be the lightest shade, it was too dark for me, so I've been using it together with my BB cream from Missha (Yes, I still have my Vita Matt, and use it almost everyday), which is too light for me (and even lighter in summer).

5- Olive oil nourishing shampoo 'Cien' (Lidl).
No, don't think that we've left aside our beloved shampoo bars. Never!
But these kind of products are quite good to take them to the swimming pool, for example.
We've used it just for those occasions, and we'll tell you that it's a 'neither good nor bad' shampoo, but it's not that bad for the price.

Well, this is all for now with our 'finito' products.
We hope you found this post useful.
