De vuelta a... Estocolmo (III) - Back to... Stockholm (III).

Hola a tod@s:

Hi everyone,

Today it's time to continue our account of this summer's visit -our second- to the Swedish capital. You can read part one *here* and two *here*.

Day 3

In an attempt to make amends with Marian for the previous day downpour during the concert, we decided to visit a museum she was really eager to see, the Photography Museum or Fotografiska Museet. The easiest way to get there is taking the Tunnelbana underground and getting off in Slussen station.
Entrance to this museum is included with the Stockholm Card tourist pass, that will unfortunately disappear by the end of this year and be replaced with the Stockholm Pass.
The museum opens from Sunday to Wednesday starting at 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., and from Thursday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 11 pm.

The Fotografiska Museet first opened in 2010 and is located inside an Art Nouveau building dating back to 1906. Photography (without flash) is permitted inside. On the ground floor you will find an exhibition of fashion shots with many familiar faces staring back at you, i.e. Kate Moss or Lady Gaga. It's very colourful and eyecatching.

The visit continues on the top floor with an exhibition by Nick Brandt of black and white shots featuring wild animals. It really is worth the visit, as it's very inspiring and tries to raise awareness among visitors about important issues such as poaching, climate change and others.
If you want to have a souvenir of your visit, the museum shop sells copies of most of the artwork on display, as well as knick-knacks inspired by anything photographic, including funny camera cases, mugs, etc.

Once our visit to the Fotografiska was over, we headed to the harbour to get on the Historical Canal Tour boat.

Our tourist card gave us access to two different boats, this one and the Royal Canal Tour that we took last summer. The nearest underground station is Rådhuset.
We decided to take this boat before lunch, as the service times are shorter than the other tour. Anyway, journey time is 50 minutes. A recording both in Swedish and English provides commentary about the most important sights you'll see along the way.

Having finished our boat tour, we headed then to Gamla Stan for lunch at one of its many cozy restaurants. We were met there by two other Roxette fans, one of whom we'd met the previous day at the venue. Besides sharing a yummy meal, we exchanged our views of the concert -those brave two sticked to the very end in the pouring rain- and of our visits to Sweden. They'd had joined Roxette on the Swedish leg of this tour and had tons of pictures and anecdotes to share. One of our friends decided to make the most of her last day in Stockholm by visiting Abba's Museum / Swedish Hall of Fame that we visited last year.
From the Slingerbulten restaurant on Stora Nygatan, the three of us walked around Gamla Stan, a perfect spot for some quick shopping, i.e. souvenirs for your friends and loved ones.

We went with our new friend to check out his hotel, the Nordic C, right by T-Centralen. He scored a pretty good deal at only €50 a night and the hotel's really cool. The place is new and has modern and spacious rooms. He gave me two great presents: a poster from the tour that he took off from a wall himself and a plectrum that he already had in his small collection.
And things got even better as when we got downstairs before we said goodbye at the Tunnelbana we met none other than... Magnus Börjeson himself, i.e. Roxette's current bass player. We have a couple of pictures just the three of us, thanks to Marian. The thing is that this guy and myself were a bit shy and quiet when calling out his name and obviously he didn't get the hint. Thankfully Marian wasn't that timid and called out Magnus properly. In our defense I'll say that we weren't entirely sure it was him and didn't want to be a laughing stock shouting his name at the top of our lungs in the middle of the street.
Our friend suspected that Magnus was indeed a guest at his hotel and this was the confirmation he needed.

So that was what we got done during our third day in Stockholm. We'll soon be back with more.
