LDED / LOTD: Dorado metálico con Essence - Metallic gold with Essence

Hoy os traigo un look completo. En el título lo he llamado 'Look del día' aunque para no mentir, debería ser 'de la noche' ya que lo llevé para ir de cena con algunas compañeras de flamenco la semana pasada.

I have a full look for you today. I gave this the title of 'Look of the day' but to be honest I should have listed this as 'of the night', as that's what I had on for our flamenco class dinner party last week.

En los ojos, llevo un look en tonos metálicos para el que utilicé una de las paletas de la EL 'Metallics' de Essence. Usé todas las sombras del cuarteto #01 'Nothing else Metals' menos la más clarita. Delinée los ojos con el gel liner que trae la paleta, que dicho sea de paso, va de cine ya que se aplica muy bien y sobre todo sigue pintando igual de bien que el primer día.

In my eyes, I did a look in metallic shades using one of the 'Metallics' LE eyeshadow palettes from Essence. I used all the shadows in the '#01 Nothing else Metals' quad except for one, the lightest one. I lined my eyes using the brown gel liner that comes with the palette. I like those liners very much, as they glide on very easily and the colour payoff is as good as new.

En los labios, utilicé un pintalabios de P2, el #040 'Wall Street' de Marian.

For my lips, I used a P2 lipstick, in #040 'Wall Street' that I borrowed from Marian.

Me pinté las uñas con el 'Irreplaceable' de Essence, que sin darme cuenta, hacía una pareja estupenda con mi jersey. Como me las pinté poco antes de empezar a arreglarme, no podía pasar sin una capita de Seche Vite para evitar estropearme la manicura.

I did my nails using 'Irreplaceable' from Essence without realising it was actually a great match for my sweater. As I painted my nails shortly before getting ready, Seche Vite was mandatory unless I wanted a ruined mani.

Libros / Books: 'Walking back to happiness' by Lucy Dillon

Hoy os traigo la reseña de otro de los libros que compré en Tallin, concretamente en una de las tiendas del aeropuerto. Aún me queda un tercero, que olvidé en casa de mis padres, así que ya tengo uno para leer allí en Navidad, jeje.
Se trata de una novela romántica un poco diferente y es el tercer libro de la británica Lucy Dillon. Su segunda novela, que no he leído, se llevó algún premio literario en esa categoría.





I'm back with another book review, again from my Tallinn book haul. There's a third one from that trip, but I left it at my parents, so that will probably be my Christmas read when I'm there for the holidays, lol.
I got this at the airport, a chick-lit with a twist. It's the third novel penned by British author Lucy Dillon. Her second novel -which I haven't read- won a literary award in this genre.

Cuando digo que este libro es un poco diferente, me refiero a que la protagonista, Juliet, no tiene el corazón roto porque le haya abandonado su pareja, sino por la muerte repentina de Ben, su marido. Ahora vive en una casa en obras con su perro Minton (Bad Minton, jeje) como única compañía. Juliet intenta tener su "hora de duelo diaria" en paz, algo imposible teniendo en cuenta que sus nuevos vecinos son una pintoresca familia del mundo del espectáculo con cuatro retoños de lo más revoltoso y escandaloso.

When I referred to this as a romantic novel with a twist I meant that the main character, Juliet is not the usual dumped, broken-hearted heroine. Well, she IS broken-hearted but by the unexpected death of her young husband. She now finds herself trying to live in their half-built home with only Ben's faithful dog Minton (Bad Minton, lol) to keep her company. Juliet tries to have her daily 'grief hour' in peace, an impossible feat considering the bizarre family from the music business next door and their noisy four kids.

Su madre Diane ya no sabe qué hacer para ayudarla a superarlo. La solución vendrá de la mano de su perro Coco, al que Juliet tendrá que cuidar mientras su madre hace lo propio con su nieto Toby. Y es que su madre, Louise, una abogada de éxito y con una vida aparentemente perfecta ha decidido poner fin a su excedencia maternal y volver a la acción.
Sin saber muy bien cómo, Juliet se convertirá en la cuidadora de mascotas de Longhampton. Y a diferencia de las mascotas, sus dueños esconden secretos que en algunos casos pondrán su propia vida patas arriba.

Her mother Diane has run out of ideas to help Juliet out of her shell and move on. The answer's in Coco, her mother's dog Juliet will have to pet-sit while Diane babysits her grandson Toby. Louise, her mother is a top-notch solicitor with a seemingly picture perfect life, who has decided she's had enough maternity leave and is very eager to hit the courts again. Before she knows it, Juliet has somehow become Longhampton's pet-sitter. And unlike pets, their owners have a few secrets of their own , secrets that will even turn her own life upside down.

Es un libro que me ha gustado mucho, con momentos divertidos y otros que te arrancan alguna lagrimita. Los protagonistas son gente normal, con vidas normales -salvo sus vecinos- con los que no resulta dificil empatizar.
Si buscáis un libro de este tipo o descansar de alguna lectura más "sesuda" quizá os pueda interesar. Me ha dejado buen sabor de boca -como Can you keep a secret?- y no me importaría leer algo más de esta autora si surge la ocasión.

I really liked this book, with its funny but also tear-jerking moments. The characters seem realistic people with normal lives -except for the neighbours- and it's easy to relate to them. If you're looking for a good chick-lit or want a rest from a more brainy or demanding read you may want to give this one a try. So to speak, it left a good taste in my reader's mouth -like Can you keep a secret?- and wouldn't mind reading something else by the same author.

Perfumes Saphir - Saphir perfumes.

Si sois de las que, como yo, parece que se beban la colonia (por lo poco que me duran), quizá os interese seguir leyendo esta entrada, en la que os voy a hablar de los perfumes Saphir, que conocí hace bastantes años.

Estos perfumes son imitaciones de fragrancias de marcas como Chanel, Loewe, Cacharel...
Están disponibles en dos tamaños: 200 ml (que como podéis imaginar, es el que yo compro), y 25 ml. En la web no dicen el precio; supongo que partiendo de un precio recomendado, cada perfumería lo vende a un precio distinto. Los últimos que hemos comprado (como regalo de Navidad para mis padres, a los que les encantan), nos han costado, si no recuerdo mal, 13.25€.
Mis padres no saben que tenemos blog, así que no os preocupéis por que pongamos aquí el precio.



These perfumes are imitations of famous fragrances from brands like Chanel, Loewe, Cacharel... They are available in two sizes: 200 ml (which as you can imagine, is the one I always buy), and 25 ml. There isn't any info about their price on the website; I guess that, starting from a suggested retail price, each beauty store sells them at a different price, so price may vary. The latest ones we've purchased (as Christmas gifts for my parents, who love them) were, if I'm not wrong, €13.25. My parents have no idea about our blog, so don't worry about us telling you the price of this gift.

Los que hemos probado hasta ahora son: "Eau de Saphir" (Eau de Rochas), "Rubí" (Aire de Loewe), "New Romantica" (Anais Anais), "Saphir 29" (Chanel nº5), "Saphir Elle" (Emporio Elle) y "Pink" (Flower by Kenzo), y creo que alguno más, pero ahora no recuerdo.
Su relación calidad-precio para mí es excepcional, pues aparte de que las imitaciones están muy bien conseguidas por lo general, el olor perdura bastante en la piel (yo creo que incluso más que los perfumes en los que están basados).
Así que si os preguntáis si los recomiendo, la respuesta es sí (uno bien grande).

Those we have tried until now are: 'Eau de Saphir' (Eau de Rochas), 'Rubí' (Aire de Loewe), 'New Romantica' (Anais Anais), 'Saphir 29' (Chanel no.5), 'Saphir Elle' (Emporio Elle), and 'Pink' (Flower by Kenzo), and I think there are some more, but I don't remember them. They're excellent value for money, because apart from the fact that these imitations are very well-made, the scent most times lasts longer on you skin (I think it lasts even longer than the original perfumes). So if you're wondering about if I recommend them, the answer is yes (a huge one).

Nuestros esmaltes de Deliplus - Our Deliplus Nailpolishes: #82: Capuccino Perlado

Os presento otro de nuestros esmaltes de la marca propia de los supermercados Mercadona, Deliplus. Es uno de los últimos tonos que sacaron, si no me equivoco salió en invierno.

En la revista de Mercadona el nombre que le dan a este tono es 'Capuccino Perlado', aunque qué queréis que os diga, no estoy yo muy de acuerdo con el nombrecito. En el stand, me pareció que podría ser un tono interesante viendo el bote, pero luego me ha dejado un poco decepcionada. Os dejo unas fotos, con y sin flash.

I have another polish from Deliplus, available at Mercadona supermarkets here in Spain. It was one of their latest releases. It came out last winter, if I'm not mistaken.

Mercadona refers to this in their magazine as 'Pearly Capuccino', though I don't see eye to eye with that. As I was standing by the display, this seemed an interesting choice judging by the bottle, but I've been a bit disappointed by it. Here are a few pics, with and without flash.

Creo recordar, que apliqué una capa de esmalte base de Schlecker, seguida de dos de este y una de Seche Vite. Esta foto es ya de hace tiempo, digamos que es una 'foto de archivo', pero creo que así fue. Usé dos capas para darle una mayor cobertura e incluso admitiría una tercera para evitar que se vea la línea de la uña. Como todos los esmaltes con este tipo de acabado, hay que tener cuidado al aplicarlo para que no se noten demasiado las pasadas.

La fórmula es buena y lo mismo puedo decir del pincel. La duración, normal, yo diría que tres días.

I seem to recall I'm sporting one coat of base coat from Schlecker, followed by two of this and another one of Seche Vite in the pics. This is an old picture, 'from the vault' you could say, so I could be wrong but I think that was the case. I applied two coats to make it opaque but you could add a third one to avoid VNL. Like all polishes with this finish, you have to be careful with the application to prevent too visible brushstrokes.

Formula is good and so is the brush. As for staying power, the usual, I'd say three days.

En definitiva, un esmalte bonito y ponible, pero tampoco nada del otro jueves.

In short, a nice wearable colour, though nothing to write home about.

UDLS/NOTW: Essence 'Bloom-a-loom'.

Hola de nuevo:

Aquí os traigo mis uñas de la semana; esta vez con el esmalte de Essence "Bloom-a-loom" de la EL "Blossoms", que por cierto, tenía sin estrenar hasta ahora.
Es un esmalte en color lila con reflejos en azul, que son más visibles en el bote que en las uñas, pero aun así, me encanta.

Here's my NOTW; this time with the 'Bloom-a-loom' from the 'Blossoms' TE I had not used until now. It's a lilac shade with blue shimmer, more visible in the bottle than on the nails, but I like it all the same.

Primer día: Aplico una capa del sellador de uñas de Essence (que también nos envió María), y después 2 finas capas de este esmalte. Encima, como viene siendo habitual, Seche Vite.

Segundo día: Fotos. Y después de pelearme con la cinta adhesiva (para envolver regalos), amenaza con desconcharse, pero ha logrado aguantar bien.

First day: I applied one coat of the Essence sealer Maria sent to us and then two thin layers of this polish. On top and as usual, Seche Vite.

Second day: Pictures. And after a battle with sellotape while wrapping up some presents, it threatens to start chipping, but it's still doing well.

Tercer día: Más fotos. De momento la amenaza no se cumple.

Cuarto día: Desconchón, todavía pequeño, en el índice de la mano derecha. Para disimularlo un poco, aplico encima una capa fina del esmalte de acabado craquelado de Depend, en tono morado.

Third day: More pics. The chipping threat doesn't carry out at the moment.

Fourth day: A (still) small chip, on my right hand index finger. In order to hide it a little bit, I apply a thin coat of my purple crackle polish from Depend.




Quinto día: El desconchón se ha hecho enorme, y ocupa casi toda la uña. Después de lavarme el pelo, empiezan a desconcharse todas las demás, y decido quitarme el esmalte. Pero en vez de quitármelo a la manera habitual (con quitaesmalte, como todo el mundo), descubro que rascando un poco se despega como una pegatina, así que me entretengo en quitar de esta forma el esmalte de todas las uñas. Qué bruta soy, ¿no?

Fifth day: That small chipping has become huge, and now it's almost as big as my nail. After washing my hair, the rest of the nails started getting chipped, so I decide to remove the polish. But instead of doing it the traditional way (with nail polish remover, as everybody else), I found out that I could take it off just by scratching my nails and it comes off like a sticker, so I spent some time doing this. How wild, huh?

Ese producto que os dije que me había sorprendido gratamente es este spray corporal de "Les Cosmetiques". ¿No os parece que tiene un parecido más que sospechoso con el de Deliplus?

The item I told you that had pleasantly surprised me is this body spray from 'Les Cosmetiques'. Don't you think that it has a more than suspicious similarity with the one from Deliplus?

Después de desvelaros la razón de ser de este "Copiar y pegar", os diré qué es lo que tanto me ha gustado de este producto.
Además de su olor, que me encanta, éste dura bastante más tiempo en el cuerpo (marox también está de acuerdo conmigo en esto), y me gusta el atomizador del envase, que rocía una bruma de perfume, mientras que el de Deliplus rocía gotitas pequeñas, más que bruma.

After revealing you the 'raison d'être' of this 'Copy and paste', I'll tell you what I like so much of this product. Besides the scent, which I love, this one lasts a lot longer on your skin (marox also agrees with that), and I also like the atomizer of its bottle, which sprays a mist of fragrance, whereas the one from Deliplus sprays small drops, more than a mist.

Si os interesa probarlo, os diré que están disponibles en 4 fragancias diferentes: cedro, rosa blanca, té verde y flor de cerezo, que es el que compré, pero no descarto probar los demás, porque... ¡me gustaron todos!

If you're interested in trying them, I can tell you they're available in 4 different fragrances: cedar, white rose, green tea and cherry tree flower, which is the one I bought, but I don't rule out trying the rest of them, because... I liked them all!

NO COMPRES, ADOPTA - DON'T BUY. ADOPT.

Ayer por la mañana, Subflava reprodujo en su blog la *carta* de un trabajador de una perrera española. Así que me ha parecido adecuado hacer lo propio en nuestro blog, añadiendo además una traducción al inglés, ya que imagino que estas situaciones se darán en otros países también, en mayor o menor medida y las fiestas navideñas suelen ser el momento que muchas familias escogen para añadir un miembro peludo a la familia.

Aunque me gustaría hacer un post de actualidad con las noticias de las últimas semanas un día de estos, me parece que puede esperar y que esto era mucho más importante.

Yesterday morning, Subflava reproduced in her *blog* the following letter from an employee at a dog shelter in Spain. I felt it was only just fair if we did the same here, adding an English translation at the same time -feel free to correct anything in the English version, btw. I got a feeling the situation it reports happens in other countries too, at a smaller or greater degree. With the Christmas holidays fast approaching, many families decide to incorporate a furry member to their home.

Though I plan to write a post about the latest news one of these days, I felt this was far more important and urgent.

CARTA DE UN TRABAJADOR DE LA PERRERA:

LETTER FROM A DOG POUND WORKER.

Lo primero de todo, todos los que sois vendedores/criadores de animales, deberíais al menos trabajar UN DÍA en una perrera.

Tal vez si veis la mirada triste, perdida…los ojos confusos, os harían cambiar de opinión sobre criar y luego vender a personas que ni siquiera conocéis.

Ese cachorro que acabas de vender terminará posiblemente en mi perrera cuando deje de ser un perrito lindo.

First of all, all of you animal breeders/sellers, should work at least ONE DAY at a dog pound.

Then maybe if you saw the sad, lost look, confused eyes of these animals you'd change your mind about breeding and then selling them to people you don't even know.

This puppy you've just sold will probably end its days at my dog pound when it's no longer a cute little puppy.

Entonces... ¿cómo te sentirías si supieses que hay una probabilidad del 90% de que ese perro nunca salga de la perrera si es que llega a parar allí? Sea de raza o no.

EL 50% de los perros que entran en mi centro, abandonados o callejeros, son de raza pura.

Well... how would you feel if you knew that his chances of never leaving the pound if he ends up there are 90%? No matter if it's pedigree or not.

50% of the dogs at my shelter, abandoned or stray, are pedigree.

Las excusas más comunes que escucho son:

-“Nos mudamos y no podemos llevarnos a nuestro perro/gato”. ¿En serio? ¿A dónde te mudas que no te permiten tener mascotas y por qué has elegido ese lugar en vez de otro donde sí puedas tenerla?

-“El perro se hizo más grande de lo que creíamos”. ¡¿Y cuanto te pensabas que crecía un pastor alemán?!

-“No tengo tiempo para ella” - ¿De veras? Yo trabajo 10 o 12 horas al día y aun así tengo tiempo para mis 6 perros.

-“Está destrozándonos el patio” -¿Y porque no lo tenéis dentro con vosotros?

The excuses I hear the most are:

-'We've moved and cannot take our dog/cat with us'. - Really? Where is it that you're moving into that you're not allowed to have pets and why did you choose that place instead of another one where you could?

-'The dog is now bigger than we thought'. - And how big did you think a German sheperd would grow to be?

-'I have no time for her'. - Really? I work 10 or 12 hours a day and even so I do have time for my 6 dogs.

-'It's wrecking out our courtyard'. - And why don't you have it inside, with you?

Siempre me dicen “No queremos insistirte en que le busques un hogar, porque sabemos que lo adoptarán, es un buen perro”.

Lo triste es que tu mascota NO será adoptada y.... ¿sabes lo estresante que es una perrera? Bueno, pues déjame que te cuente:

They always tell me: 'We don't want to push you into finding it a home, because we know he'll be adopted, he's a good dog'.

The sad thing is that your pet will NOT be adopted and... do you know how stressing a dog pound is?. Well, let me tell you:

Tu mascota tiene 72 horas para encontrar 1 nueva familia desde el momento en que la dejes.

A veces un poco más si la perrera no está llena y consigue apañárselas para mantenerse completamente sano.

Si se resfría, se muere.

Tu mascota estará confinada en una pequeña jaula, rodeada de ladridos y llantos de otros 25 animales.

Your pet will have 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop her at the animal shelter.

Sometimes, a bit longer if the shelter is not full and your pet makes it and stays completely healthy.

If it gets a cold, it'll die.

Your pet will be confined to a small cage, surrounded by the barking and cries of another 25 animals.

Tendrá que apañárselas solo para comer y dormir.

Estará deprimido y llorará constantemente por la familia que lo ha abandonado.

Si tiene suerte, y cuento con suficientes voluntarios, quizá podrán sacarlo de paseo ocasionalmente.

It will have to manage for itself to eat and sleep.

Will be depressed and will cry constantly for the family who's abandoned him.

If it's lucky and I have enough volunteers, they may be able to walk him occassionally.

Si no, tu mascota no recibirá ninguna atención, aparte de un plato de comida deslizado bajo la puerta de la jaula y manguerazos de agua.

Si tu perro es grande, negro o cualquier raza “bull” (pit bull, mastín…) lo has conducido a la muerte desde el momento en que cruzó la puerta. Esos perros no suelen ser adoptados.

Otherwise, your pet will get no attention, apart from some food on a platter slipped through from the door of the cage and the water splashed from a hose.

If your dog is big, black or from any 'bull' breed (pitbull, mastiff, etc) you've taken him to death from the moment it walked through the door. These dogs are seldom adopted.

No importa lo “dulce” que sea o lo “amaestrado” que esté. Si tu perro no es adoptado en las 72 horas desde su entrada, y el refugio está lleno, será sacrificado.

Si el albergue no está lleno y tu perro es suficientemente bueno y de una raza atractiva, es posible que se pueda retrasar su ejecución, aunque no por mucho tiempo.

Regardless of how 'sweet' or 'tame' your pet is. If your dog is not adopted in the 72 hours after her entrance and if the shelter's full, it will be put to sleep.

If the shelter's not full and the dog is well-behaved and from an attractive breed, we may be able to delay their execution, but not for long.

La mayoría de los perros se ponen en jaulas de protección y se les sacrifica si muestran agresividad.

Incluso el perro más tranquilo, es capaz de cambiar en este entorno.

Most dogs are put in protection cages and are put down if they show signs of aggressiveness.

Even the tamest of dogs can change in such an environment.

Si tu mascota se contagia de la tos de las perreras (traqueobronquitis infecciosa canina) o cualquier otra infección respiratoria, será sacrificado de inmediato, simplemente porque en las perreras no tenemos recursos para pagar tratamientos de incluso 150 euros.

Y he aquí algo sobre la eutanasia para aquellos que nunca habéis sido testigos de cómo un animal, perfectamente sano, será sacrificado:

If your pet contracts the 'shelter's cough' (infectious tracheobrochitis in dogs) or any other breathing infection it will be put down at once, simply because shelters cannot afford paying a treatment of 150 EUR.

And now here's something for those of you who've never witnessed how a perfectly healthy animal is put to sleep:

En primer lugar, lo sacarán de la jaula con una correa.

Los perros siempre piensan que van a dar un paseo, salen felices, moviendo la cola…. Hasta que llegan a “la habitación”, allí todos frenan en seco.

First of all, he/she will be taken out of the cage with a lead.

Dogs always think they're going for a walk, and leave the cage contentedly, wagging their tail... until they get to 'the room'. That's when all of them get to a full stop.

Deben oler o captar la muerte o sentir las almas tristes que se quedaron allí.

Es extraño, pero sucede con todos y cada uno de ellos.

Tu perro o gato se verá sujeto por 1 o 2 técnicos veterinarios, dependiendo del tamaño y de lo nervioso que este.

They must smell or sense death or feel the sad souls that stopped breathing there.

It's strange, but it happens to every single one of them.

Your dog or cat will be held tight by 1 or 2 vet assistants, depending on the size and how nervous they are.

A continuación, un especialista en administrar la eutanasia o un veterinario, iniciará el proceso: encontrarán una vena en su pata delantera y se le inyecta una dosis de “sustancia rosa”.

Esperemos que tu mascota no se asuste al sentirse presa. He visto algunos arrancarse las agujas y acabar cubiertos de su propia sangre, ensordecidos por los aullidos y gritos.

Next, a specialist in euthanasia or a vet will start the procedure: they will find a vein in its front legs and will then inject a 'pink substance'.

Let us hope your pet does not panic when it feels imprisoned and unable to move. I've seen some animals ripping off the needles and ending up covered in their own blood, deafened by the howling and crying.

Todos no “duermen” inmediatamente. A veces sufren espasmos durante un rato, se ahogan y se defecan encima.

Cuando ha terminado, el cadáver de tu mascota será apilado como un leño, en un gran congelador trasero, con todos los otros animales, a la espera de ser recogidos como basura.

Not all of them 'sleep' straight away. Sometimes they suffer spasms for a while, suffocate and defecate on themselves.

When it's over, your pet's body will be piled like a log, in a large freezer at the back, with the rest of animals waiting to be collected like rubbish.

¿Qué sucede después? ¿Será incinerado? ¿Lo llevan al vertedero? ¿Lo convertirán en comida para mascotas? Nunca lo sabrás y probablemente nunca te lo plantearás.

Solo era un animal y siempre puedes comprar otro, ¿no?

What happens next? Will it be cremated? Or taken to the rubbish tip? Or made into pet food? You'll never know and will probably never even think about it.

It was just a pet and after all, you can always buy another one, can you?

Odio mi trabajo, odio que exista y odio saber que siempre existirá a menos que vosotros, la gente, cambiéis y os deis cuenta de las vidas que perjudicas son muchas más, aparte de la que dejas en la perrera.

I only hope that someone reading this has changed their mind about breeding, abandoning their pet at a shelter or about buying a dog.

I hope one day someone comes in at my place and tells me: I've read this and want to adopt. Then it would make it worth it.
