Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products #68.

¡Hola guapas!

3 - Exfoliante facial St Ives (Marian):

Hi gorgeous,

Are you ready to take a look at our latest Empties?

1 - Acure face mask: I bought this mask off Vitacost. I like to have several masks in rotation, but then it takes a while to use stuff up.This mask is very pleasant to use, doesn't dry out and after rinsing it off, skin feels soft and supple.
Having said that, I won't repurchase for now as I have others I need to finish and it's a tad expensive for a 50ml mask.
It seems they've repackaged this mask and I can only find it on *iHerb*.

2 - Elf & Collection gel liners: The black one from Elf was from iHerb and the Collection one in brown from Ebay.
They were forgotten inside a toiletry bag at my other home for over a year and when I tried to use them they'd dried out. So much that not even a couple drops of Inglot's Duraline were enough to fix them.
I was really upset, as I'd barely used them and didn't even get my money's worth. I get that they were cheap and all, but I don't like it when that happens. For one, I've had some Essence gel liners for longer without them drying out.

3 - St Ives face scrub (Marian):
I bought it when we traveled to Liverpool, if I'm not wrong.
I've used it very much, although I've also used others that I have.
I like it very much, because I think scrubbing particles are the perfect size to exfoliate the skin without irritating it.
I won't be repeating with it by now, because I want to use others that I already have, but I wouldn't mind buying it again.

4 - Sephora mineral makeup:
It's the second one I've used up, and I like it very much.
Its application is quick and easy, and it has very good coverage.
Although I like it very much, I won't be repeating with it by now, because now I'm using fluid make-up again.

5 - RivalDeLoop Young eyeshadow base:
It's also the second one I've used up, and I like it very much.
It's good and cheap, so nothing to complain about.
Unfortunately it's not easy to buy it again, unless Rossmann drugstores come to Spain.
Now I'm using a minisize of the Shadow Insurance, from Too Faced.

Well, these have been our 'empties' so far.
Tell us what you think of them on the comments.
See you.

Productos Terminados #62 / Finito products #62.

Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,

Here we are again to show you what we've used up lately.

1 - Vanilla Brulée TBS soap: I bought this long ago on the TBS website and I've been using it on and off with other stuff. It lathers nicely and has a lovely soft vanilla scent.

2 - 'Knockout Red' nail polish from the brand 17: I'd meant to use this in my New Year's Eve mani but I couldn't as it had dried out and opening it was impossible.
If memory serves I think I got this as part of a swap. The other varnishes I have from this brand are still good to use.

3 - Scinic Snail Matrix Cream: I bought this cream for our mum, although we've both used it occasionally. I found it a bit heavy for my liking, although it is not greasy as others out there. For a change, I got her a different one from the Innisfree orchid range which she's already using.

4 -Deliplus Eye Pencil in blue (marox): This was incredibly dry, from the very beginning. I usually favor automatic pencils over traditional ones, as no sharpening is needed. However, this pencil from the Spanish supermarket Mercadona's house brand is just terrible.
Not that you have to break the bank to find a nice eye pencil, as the ones from Essence work like a dream.

5 - RivalDeLoop's Eye Shadow Base: I bought it a lifetime ago, right before we started this blog with our trip to Berlin. Since this brand is not available in Spain and your chances of getting your hands on this solely depend on some kind soul getting it for you, I had to find an alternative.
It creased on me after about 6 hours, but the same thing happens with its replacement.

Well, these have been our empties so far.
Have you tried any of these?
Let us know on the comments.
See you around.

Contadnos abajo.
Hasta pronto.

UDLS / NOTW: Punticura Catrice ''Mint Me Up' / Catrice 'Mint Me Up' Dotticure

¡Hola chicas!

Hi ladies!

Day 1: I started this mani by applying one coat of my base sealer -Essence's BTGN- and several coats of the Catrice lacquer in #36 Mint Me Up. I said several because I had to touch up a few nails that got damaged during application. Once it was dry enough, I used my dotting tool to decorate some nails using my golden taup Rival de Loop polish that I bought in Berlin some years ago. I waited a bit to apply a final coat of topcoat - Essence's BTGN Top Sealer- .
Confession Time: I had a hard time getting the dots on my right hand looking halfway decent. I guess it's all due to lack of practice.

This was a rather short-lived mani, as by the next day several nails on my right hand had chipped polish. I wore this for a total of two days.
I don't know whether the brief wear time of this mani had anything to do with my having to reapply more nail polish to touch up. I'll try to be more careful the next time, as well as give other base and top coats a try. I said next time because I really liked the way these two colours came out together.

What do you think? Does this get two thumbs up from you all the same?

Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products (#30).

Hola, chicas:

3- Crema hidratante Holika Holika Water March (Marian).

Hi girls,
Here we are with a new review of the items we've used up recently.

1 - Loose translucent powder 'Noche & Día' (Marian).
Marox gave me them a long time ago.
I think that was before we started with this blog, so you can get an idea.
The empty bottle you see (don't think I've washed it for the pic, it's just that I used up absolutely all the loose powder) is not the original one, which broke, so I had to put the powder into this one.
I don't remember the amount of the original bottle, but they've lasted for a long time.
Although I got a good result, I surely won't be repeating with them, because this brand is hard to find.

2 - Rival de Loop Young Eyeshadow Base (Marian).
You can't imagine how sorry I feel because I run out of it. I don't know if I could find another eyeshadow base like this one. Nothing more to say.
I bought it when we were in Berlin (we already showed you it). The quality-price rate of this base is unbeatable.
If I could, I would repeat with it, obviously, but unless we travel to Germany again, it's quite hard to find it, because if I'm right, it's not sold online.

3 - Holika Holika Water March moisturiser (Marian).
I've been using it in my daily routine, and as you know, it's not the first bottle I used of this moisturizer. This means that I like it sooo much.
But it doesn't mean that I don't want to try other products.
Of course, I wouldn't rule out to repeat with it, but not now.

4 - Holika Holika Luminous Silk BB Cream (Marian).
I love Asian BB creams, as you know, and I like trying different brands.
I tried a sample of this one, and I decided to buy it.
As others I've tried so far, it has a medium-high coverage, and it leaves the skin with a soft and healthy feeling.
I couldn't avoid the shiny skin issue, even mattifying with powder.
However, my opinion about it is very possitive.

5- Buyincoins makeup sponge (Marian).
As you can see, its lifespan came to the end. There's no need to explain why.
I love this kind of sponges to apply BB creams, because as they're more dense than fluid foundation, they can't be applied the same way by a foundation brush.
I'll buy this kind of product again, no matter the brand is.

Well, this is all for now.
Have you also tried any of these?
Tell us on the comments section below.

Look 'You Rock!'.

Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,
You already know that this kind of posts are a bit unusual in this blog, but some days ago I made this look, which I wanted to share with you.

It's really simple, and I haven't used many eyeshadows, so it's nothing special, but I hope you like it anyway.

Now I'm showing you all that I used.

Face:

*'Luminous Silk' BB cream from Holika Holika, in the shade Light Beige.
*Cream concealer from Deliplus, in the shade 02.
*'Noche y día' loose powder, to set the foundation (they don't appear in the pic. Ooops, I forgot).
*Blush from Alverde, in the shade 'Flamingo'.
*Bronzing/highlighting duo from Benefit, in the shade 'Be a perfect 10'.

Eyes:

*Eyeshadow base from Rival de Loop Young (what a great discovery). It appears in the pic among the products used for the face. A little mistake.
*Eyeshadow palette 'You Rock!', from Essence, from a limited edition with the same name.
I've used the eyeshadows marked in the pic with an arrow.
*Liquid eyeliner from P2 in the shade 'black'.
*'Big bold' mascara from NYC in the shade 'extra black'.

Lips:

*Liquid lipstick from L'Oreal HIP, in the shade '780 Indestructible'.
It happens quite a strange thing with this liquid lipstick. It dyes lips a little, but not with its red brown original shade, as it's once applied, but it turns to a pinky shade.

Well, this is all for now.
I hope you like it (a little bit, at least).
See you!

It's been a while since my last mani. I don't have any new lacquers to show, but rather a combo of polishes that I thought would look great together in this holiday season.

In the pics, I'm wearing a coat of the 'Nail Envy' by OPI basecoat, followed by two of the #51 RivaldeLoop polish that I bought at a Rossmann discount drugstore in Berlin. Once it was dry enough, I added a generous layer of the Essence glitter #67 'Make it Golden' from their now discontinued old range of Colour & Go polishes. I applied that in all nails except for my ring fingernails, which were painted with a generous layer of the China Glaze 'Midnight Kiss' lacquer.
To extend the wear of this mani, I topped it with some Poshé topcoat. I don't have anything bad to say about the lasting time of this mani, more than four days, doing the washing up, cleaning and that kind of stuff.

And on the left, another view of my 'Xmas claws', guest star included.

I hoped you liked this simple Christmas-inspired mani.

What's up?

Here I am again with another stamped mani. I had to use a light colour and this is what I came up with back in late April.

Day 1: By lunchtime, I apply one coat of Nail Envy from OPI, followed by a generous coat of this Rival de Loop polish that I bought at a Rossmann drugstore in Berlin. I later stamped using one of the new plates that I got off BIC and the black Essence Stampy. My left hand turned out quite nice but the right one was a complete mess except for two fingers, so I covered the others with more polish as best as I could. Topped it all with Seche Vite. My idea was to get the effect of an old music score, written in a parchment-like paper.

Day 3: In the afternoon, I have two chips on my right thumb and pointer and as I plan on getting them polished again the following day to have dinner out with our flamenco classmates, I took this off in the evening. The staying power of this mani wasn't long for me, but I'd been doing some cleaning at home, so I guess that could account for it.

Hope you liked it. Have a nice day or whatever.

RdL #51 / Catrice #230 'Clay-ton my Hero': Comparativa - Side by side comparison

In our Reasonable lookalikes series we've shown you several polishes that are very similar to one another already, but just gave you a bottle and nailwheel comparison *here*. I felt like doing a more comprehensive comparison as I've often seen in other blogs – Sasha has some excellent ones. I think you'll get to see the differences -yes, there are- better, though they're not too different to make sporting nails painted with two different colours odd.

I didn't want to add any extras that could distort the comparison -as a high shine quick-drying topcoat like Seche Vite would. I'm not wearing anything that wasn't essential, like a protecting base coat. I tried to apply the same amount of polish, but I think I might have been a little bit more generous with my Clay-ton.

As I've never been very good at describing colours or nuances, I'll let the pictures do the talking as much as I can.

As most pictures in this blog, photos were taken in daylight, with indirect light. They were done with my sister's Nikon D3000 DSLR, with the flash compensation setting on so as to better capture the colours without the blinding flash or overexposed/burned image you would get with a standard camera.

Day 1 -At midday I apply one coat of P2's 'Base and Care Coat'. Left hand: thumb, middle finger and pinky -one coat of RdL. Left index and ring finger with Clay-ton, that I also apply on my right thumb, middle finger and pinky. No Seche Vite, but both are quite shiny all on their own and drying time was good as well. The Catrice is more opaque, though both leave slightly VNL and I might have applied a heavier coat of Clay-ton.

Day 3: Tiny chipping on my right index (RdL). This mani is holding up like a champ, as if you remember I had no SV or topcoat of any sort on it.

Did you like it? I hope so, because I have another one lined up, ;)

************

I had my German Speaking test a few hours ago. I think I did well. Now, I'll have to wait until the results come out.

Parecidos Razonables / Reasonable Lookalikes (IV): Catrice 'Clay-ton, My Hero' & Rival de Loop #51

I'll be doing the next comparison in our 'Reasonable Lookalikes' series, since both polishes are part of my collection. I have a few pics for you to see how similar these two polishes are. It may be a good idea to use the two in the same mani.

As I mentioned in my Berlin haul entries, I knew there was a strong likeness between the two. But the Catrice one was being discontinued and I didn't know if I'd get there to get it on time, so the Rival de Loop one was my Plan B.

As much as I like CMH from Catrice, if I had to choose I think I would pick the RdL one. The golden shimmer to it is more visible, both in the bottle and on the nails. I remember doing the swatches on my nailwheels and thinking how flat it seemed and I wrongly assumed that all that gorgeous shimmer would get lost on the way.

As far as value for money is concerned, the Rival de Loop wins and anyway it will probably be next to impossible now to get the Catrice, so if you ever find a RdL display on one of your travels, check it out because you will definitely find a shade you'll fall in love with.

I'm amazed at the amount and quality of low-cost German brands. The Spanish equivalent but not in the same league would be Deliplus from Mercadona, which I've talked about already, but the thing we should have more brands to choose from. It's fantastic not having to spend a fortune anymore just to add some colour to your vanity case.

Where to buy? Rival de Loop is sold in Rossmann drugstores across Germany and neighbouring countries -I think. Click here to read my post about them. As for Catrice, the place to go are mainly Beautik stores.

Nuestras compras de otras marcas en Berlín - Our other brands Berlin haul.

Hi again,

If I'm not wrong, this is my last post about makeup-purchases in Berlin. First of all, we introduced you our Catrice nailpolishes; there were so many that they deserved a separate post.
After that, we showed you all our purchases, by brand. And I have left the things you're about to see for the end, because they were all from different brands, and I didn't want to make umpteen entries.

I'll start with the Catrice lipstick. It's the shade '120 Creamy Brown' and was only € 1.45, because the entire range was going to be discontinued. Another example of my love for buying stuff in similar colours to what I already own. When I made the swatches of this lipstick and the P2 one, I realized that they were really alike, though this one is probably a little bit more reddish than the other. Anyway, I don't regret getting it because I like these colours very much.

The Manhattan nailpolish (€1.83) is the shade 68A, and is difficult to describe. In the picture it appears to be a very light grey, but when you look closer and when you turn the bottle you can notice a lot of gorgeous violet reflections. It's quite sheer so I'll probably use it on top of another polish, for layering.

I also bought the liquid concealer from Alterra (€2.49), in the shade '02 Light'. When I tried the tester at the store, it seemed to me that it was sheer, but since I don't have so many undereye circles, I put it into the basket.

And finally, the ultra-recommended (by Subflava) eyeshadow base from Rival de Loop Young (€1.99), with a fingerprint from some German female inside, but it was the last one left on the display, so I had no other choice.
I tried my sister's one, and it's every bit as good as the ArtDeco eyeshadow base.

That was all that was left to show regarding my Berlin purchases. I'll let you know more about them when I try them out.

Here I am again, this time to properly show you another one of the polishes I got in Berlin. It's Rival de Loop's #51, available from Rossmann drugstores. If my first impressions on the P2 polish 'Soulful' were far from good, I've been most pleasantly surprised with this one.

If I had to describe the colour I'd say it's a light taupe colour with very visible gold microshimmer. When I swatched it on the nailwheel- see above pic- I got the impression that it was nowhere near as beautiful there as on the bottle itself, meaning you can barely notice the shimmer in the swatch. I was in for a surprise! What a difference it made once you apply it on your nails: unlike many other polishes, it's just as beautiful as on the bottle!

As for the application, I'm more than satisfied with it. In the pictures, I'm wearing one coat of the 'Base & Care coat' from P2, two coats of this gorgeous nail polish and no Seche Vite this time, so I can give an honest opinion about drying time -quite fast- as well. The truth is I forgot to take out my Seche Vite bottle and only realised once I'd started and I wasn't going to ruin it just for the sake of using SV.

I found the brush easy to work with, since I could cover my nails in a couple of swipes. The formula was neither too sheer/watery nor too thick. No cleanup was required. I could have done with another coat or thicker coats but I liked the result I was getting so decided against it. I think this one stayed in perfect condition for two days, requiring a slight touch-up on a couple of nails on my right hand. It looked so awesome I wanted to keep it on just a little longer ;) Literally, I couldn't take my eyes off my hands. I got a feeling I'll be wearing this a lot.

A confession- This polish was somewhat of a 'Plan B' for me. I'd read it was a dupe for the Catrice lacquer in Clay-ton my Hero, one of the shades to be discontinued in March 2011 and since in the first stores we went in the other one was 'MIA', as soon as I saw this one the saying 'a bird in the hand' came to my mind... and into my shopping basket it went.

I had another shade from this brand in my hands, but the voice of my conscience reminded me I'm beginning to have too many polishes already. Considering how well this one worked for me, I wish she'd kept quiet, lol!

On my virtual tour of the most popular German drugstores, today it's Rossmann's turn. It also offers make-up and toiletries at ridiculously inexpensive prices, even lower than the other stores. Our haul came from both the Friedrichstraße 147 and the Grunerstraße stores. There's a Lush right across the Friedrichstrasse one and we took some undercover pics there as well. ;)

Apart from Essence and Manhattan, the main appeal as far as make-up is concerned is its two brands: Rival de Loop and Rival de Loop Young. Sadly now that I'm checking the folders of our pictures, none of us took any shots of their stands, so I'll copy a link to Innen und Aussen, where you can get an idea of what they look like.

Rival de Loop offers more classic and wearable colours, whereas the Young version has bold shades for daring people: there are bright 'fluorescent' yellow nail polishes, the same colour of those highlighter pens you probably used at school when taking notes.
The only product from RdL I purchased was a gorgeous nail polish I'll show very soon. From RdLY I bought the much hyped eyeshadow base, a must-have product that quoting
Subflava 'you have to buy regardless of being swatched already by some German lady'. Mine was untouched.
I've left the best for the end: the price. Both nail polish and eyeshadow base retailed at € 1.99. Yeah, you read right: ONE EURO NINETY NINE CENTS.

For a nailpolish maybe that doesn't sound so surprising, but for an eyeshadow primer is. I paid about € 8 for my Artdeco one, which is probably the cheapest one on sale here.

Just like DM had a natural range of cosmetics, Alverde, Rossmann have their own line, Alterra. My sister did buy something, so I guess she'll be sharing that with you soon.

Other than make-up, I bought the poppy seeds I used to make the Fruit cake I shared with you recently. We also got some travel-sized products and soaps, and they were a steal too. Bargain alert: they had natural salt crystal deodorants, dirt cheap, about € 2. We paid € 7.85 for ours here.

Strangely enough, the Spanish drugstore Marionnaud sells some Isana products -which is a Rossmann brand- such as shower gels, creams and the like, and it even says so on the labels. It would be nice if they started carrying RdL, wouldn' it?

Espero que os haya gustado / Hope you liked this one.
