Hola, chicas. |
Hi, ladies It's been ages since I last posted a mani. Though I paint my nails a lot less often than years ago, the truth is that time to sit down and write a post is usually at a premium. Because I just can't write from my phone or tablet, I need to do it from my laptop. I'm old-fashioned, I know. What about you? The polish I'm showing you today is a gel nail polish that only works when a UV or LED light is used to cure it. This is the second varnish from this brand that I own. Now that I think about it, I haven't shown that to you, have I?. 😓 Meet the world's worst blogger. I got it at Clarel, the drugstores owned by DIA supermarkets, but I've seen them too at Arenal and Druni. They retail at about €6.95. I think it's a Polish brand. For base and topcoat I used Aimeili products, that I purchased long ago from Amazon. Since these are gel polishes, it's important to apply thin coats and cure them well before applying the next product. I got my lap from ALDI at about the same time. I painted my nails with this Hi Hybrid on December 22nd and took it off on January 8th. This was the mani I sported this holiday season. I don't rule out getting my hands on more UV gel polishes and as a matter of fact I have some on my Aliexpress wishlist. Even considering how cumbersome the removal process is, they last so long that using them doesn't make me lazy. You know they'll last a couple weeks, unlike traditional polishes. Have you tried these polishes? Let us know what your experience was like in the comments below. |

Compras varias / Sundry Haul 2020 (VI)
Hi ladies, Today we have an assorted post, with different stuff we got recently. As you may have noticed, Blogger has recently implemented some changes to the interface, so you'll see us testing out different stuff. Not that we are too blog-savvy, mind you. 1 - Woman magazine, October issue (marox): You know me, if magazines have nice freebies, I'll try to get them. This month they teamed up with Benefit and came out with 2 different mascaras. Since other times I got the Roller Lash one, I was happy to find They're Real instead for a change. Price: €4.99 2 - Elle + Elle Decor, October issue (marox): The freebie was a mini of the famous Nuxe dry oil that I'd never had the chance to try. I got the Floral version, which is the one I wanted anyway. I've only tested it briefly on my skin and so far, so good. The scent is really lovely and the product doesn't feel... oily. Some areas got 3 different magazines in the bundle (including Esquire). Price: €4.95 3 - 9in1 Revuele Basecoat: Digging through my polish stash here I noticed I used a base in summer that wasn't good to use anymore, as it was all gooey and dry. This will replace it. Price: €1.75 at Primaprix. By the way, this time they didn't have a lot of basecoats to choose from. 4 - Dove fragrance-free deodorant: Also from Primaprix, for €1.60. It does have aluminium, an ingredient we normally stay away from. We'll save this for special occasions, those times you need to make sure you don't stink. 5 - Glamour pocket edition, November 2020 issue (marox): For €2.50 it was a decent deal and a chance to get my hands on this TBS shower gel again. From all the issues that looked worth it, this is the only one I saw so far. I know other cities got entirely different freebies, such as TBS hand creams or body butters and stuff from other brands altogether. 6 - Instyle magazine, November 2020 issue (marox): This month's freebie was 2 Essence products for €4.50. I got the bundle with the mascara and the lipstick. The third option was a matte lipgloss that I'd love to try. Next month they've announced a new Rituals shower foam as a freebie. I may get it, rather than the endless list of planners December issues usually bring and that I find rather meh. 7 - Revuele Hair-loss ampoules: I bought them from Primaprix, but I've seen them around on the Internet at Primor -even better priced, I believe-. In my store they had a BOGO for €4.95. I've only tried one so far. I still have some from L'Oreal left -by the way, I love their roll-on applicator and use it with other brands-, but I thought it'd be a good thing to alternate. That way our scalp can get the most of these products and don't know about you, but my scalp is in need of some TLC. This is all for now. See you around. |

PDLS / POTW: 17 'Pink Grapefruit'
Today I have a very colourful mani with a shade that I got from a nail swap, if memory serves, quite a long time ago. It's been my last mani this summer.
As you can see from the title, I used a polish from the brand 17, available from Boots. It contains 8ml and the formula is on the thin side making application very easy. However, I'd suggest using two thinnish coats of laquers like these. If I'm not mistaken, I didn't use any topcoat, but I did apply this over an Essence base.
No objections as far as weartime goes, since pedis really last a long time on me.

PDLS/POTW: Essence 'Oh my glitter!'.

Hi girls,
In this post, I'm showing you my latest pedi, with the Essence 'Oh my glitter!' nail polish.
It's a purple shade with small multicolor particles. Calling them glitter would be too much.
On top, I applied the 'High shine top coat' from Essence, which is the one I always use for my pedis.
And now, let me give you some advice:
Never polish your nails with low light. I polished them at night, just under indirect lighting, so the colour is not uniform.
Well, this is all for now.
See you.

UDLS / NOTW - Opi Fan Favorites Set
Hola guapas:
Hi there, gorgeous
It's summer at last!! And there's no better way to celebrate than to share a post with you.
You may remember that on a recent visit to my favourite evil den, outlet supermarket Primaprix, I found a set of OPI minis and since my birthday was fast approaching I got my greedy hands on it.
I didn't write down which base or topcoat I used, but it was probably an Essence base and a Revlon topcoat.
The day after doing my nails, a big chunk on one of the ones I painted with the shade 'Canyon Sunset' came right off.
As for wear, I get the feeling and this seems to prove it that OPI polishes are somewhat overrated. I can't help to remember how good the WetnWild polish I bought this year -my first- turned out to be.
OPI may win hands down the battle when it comes to shade variety and finishes, but I feel they're a bit lacking wear-wise.
Have you tried any high-end polishes? Do they perform better for you than more affordable ones?

UDLS / NOTW: Wet n Wild 'Stay Classy'
¡Hola chicas!

Hi ladies!
We hope you're dealing fine with the lockdown. It seems we now begin to see the end of it, but we mustn't keep our guard down. Experts warn that there will be a new spike in cases in September, so we need to continue going out as little as possible to go shopping or exercise a bit to make up for any 'lockdown binging'.
Some weeks ago I shared this polish with you in a Haul post. I'm not patient when it comes to using a recent purchase for the first time and today's post is a clear example.
Day 1 (Monday): In the evening, I took a break from teleworking and did my nails. I used the Essence 'Anti split nail sealer' and then a coat of this polish. It has great coverage and a wide brush, which makes application a breeze.
I waited a couple minutes for the varnish to dry and then gave my nails a coat of the OPI 'Start to Finish' mini that was a freebie with Elle magazine here in Spain a few months ago.
I removed the polish a whopping 8 days later. The tips were obviously damaged, but I was thoroughly delighted with how long and how well this fared.
It goes to show that you don't always need to break the bank to get your hands on a top-quality product that works.
Have you tried any Wet n Wild polishes? Which brand lasts longer on you?

UDLS / NOTW: Nails Inc + China Glaze 'Midnight Kiss'
¡Hola guapas!

Hi beauties!
There's a saying that goes: Better late than never, so I'm hoping you won't mind my sharing with you a mani I should have shown you a while ago now.
In my defense I have to say I've had a hectic month: first giving the final touches to exams, then doing them and now I'm in the process of marking those.
I wore this mani for New Year's Eve. Since I didn't have any base at my parents', I applied a coat of the Essence 'Better than Gel Nails' topcoat, plus two of this Nails Inc polish.
To protect the mani, I gave it a coat of the Revlon topcoat.
Wear time was surprisingly short, with some tips showing damage the very next day. Strangely enough, the polish peeled off my nails, exactly as if I'd applied a peel-off base. I suppose it had to do with my applying a topcoat first rather than a proper base coat.
I hope that you still liked the mani despite my tardiness.

UDLS / NOTW: OPI 'Mod About You'
¡Hola guapas!

Hi there, gorgeous!
I'm quite busy lately, since it's exam season at work, but here's a mani featuring the other shade that came in the #Make it iconic mini set that was a recent freebie with Elle magazine Spain. Strangely enough, it made it to the region I live in, Castille.
Day 1: I applied a coat of the Essence 'Anti Split Nail Sealer'. A few minutes later, I gave my nails a coat of this polish. Being a pastel, it is hard to get an even coverage -even more difficult than with the brown shade in the set-. I waited a couple minutes before giving my nails a second coat that again was a pain to apply, as this was just too streaky.
I feel this polish will be put to better use for pedis in the future.
After a few minutes I used the Essence product again to protect my nails. Again, I failed at opening the bottle of 'Start to Finish' was came with a second magazine I bought.
I tried to open that on a different day and I succeeded then, but apparently that's something I just can't do while doing my nails.
I wore this mani for 5 days. I washed my hair and strangely enough, it survived. Same with some deep cleaning. The only nails that had significant damage were the ones on my right hand, index and middle finger, but the rest looked like on Day 1.
I guess it goes to show that using good-quality polishes -i.e., pricey ones- does pay off in terms of longevity.
Are there any nail polish brands that last longer than others?

UDLS / NOTW: Bronx Colors 'Red Wine'
¡Hola guapas!

Hi there, gorgeous!
Today I'd like to show you this polish that my sister gave me for Christmas. The brand *Bronx Colors* is sold in Spain at Druni drugstores, which is where she got if. I have no idea where else you may find it.
I sported this mani on the Christmas work dinner. I applied a coat of base -I don't recall which- and two of this shade. I topped it with some topcoat. I did my nails in a hurry and didn't write down what I used, I'm afraid.
What I did notice -and appreciate- was how quick drying this was. No hair marks, nothing at all.
I must say I've been pleasantly surprised by this polish for a number of reasons. This mani remained in perfect condition for 5 days and it was only after I'd washed my hair that the first signs of wear appeared.
Well, this is all for now.
I hope you like it.
See you around.

I must say I've been pleasantly surprised by this polish for a number of reasons. This mani remained in perfect condition for 5 days and it was only after I'd washed my hair that the first signs of wear appeared.
Well, this is all for now.
I hope you like it.
See you around.

UDLS / NOTW: Catrice 'Bohemia LE - Yes, You Tan' & OPI 'Tiramisu for Two'

Hi beauties,
It's been a lifetime since my last mani on the blog, even a quick, unpretentious one like this.
I really wanted to try the OPI minis that were an Elle freebie in October.
They were featured in our most recent Sundry Haul post *here*.
Day 1: At night, I applied a coat of the Essence 'Anti split nail sealer'. I have no idea whether it is still available. Anyway, I then applied two coats of the Catrice polish on all nails except two accent nails, allowing them to dry for a couple minutes between coats.
My other nails sported two coats of the OPI shade. Like all pastels, it is streaky and requires some patience on application.
After a few minutes, I wanted to top it with a coat of OPI's 'Start to Finish' that I got as another magazine freebie with the same issue... but I was unable to get it open. I settled for applying another coat of the same Essence stuff I'd used earlier, which was the only one I had in hand.
I think this lasted on my nails for three days. Funnily enough, the OPI polish was still in mint condition unlike the other nails.

Have you bought any magazines lately? Spanish ones have really stepped up their game, giving stuff other than planners that honestly, have never been my cup of tea and were the only thing they seemed to include years ago.

Manicura navideña en verde y dorado / Green and gold Xmas mani
Hola a todas:

Hi there,
At long last, here's my Christmas mani. At this rate, I'd be showing this in July and that would be beside the point, wouldn't it?
At least the weather is the same. We're having the first snowfall of the season these days.
Anyway... I wore this mani for a week straight. I applied one coat of the gel base from Aliexpress, two thin ones of both polishes and finished it off with a coat of a gel topcoat, also from Aliexpress.
I dried every coat with a UV lamp. I was in a hurry and it didn't turn out as neat as I intended. The next day I hit my finger and a piece of polish chipped just like that.
Don't you hate it when that happens?
I took this mani off exactly a week later, as they had quite a lot of damage already. I have to say that the nails I painted with the gold China Glaze polish were still looking great.

The green polish was featured in a recent Haul. I got this at a Spanish drugstore, Druni, for only €1.
I hope you liked the mani, despite my tardiness in posting it. Am I the only one struggling to have a logical posting schedule?

Manicura en gel 'Nude' - Gel mani
Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,
I did show this 'Nude' gel polish I got at Primaprix, a local discount supermarket in a recent Haul.
I applied a coat of gel basecoat, also from Primaprix and then one of this shade. The instructions recommend using two thin coats, but I was satisfied with the opacity one gave me. On the accent nails I applied one coat of a regular Essence polish.
I was pleasantly surprised to see the glass flecks this gel had.
I finally gave my nails a coat of this Revlon topcoat, also from that store. I cured all coats in a UV LED lamp. At first the topcoat seemed a bit murky, but later turned out just fine. I believe the topcoat was very affordable too, €1.99.
I painted my nails on October 2nd and removed it on 14th. The nails on my right hand were in a much worse state than those on the left, but I didn't want to stretch the mani any longer. Needless to say, the nails that looked more chipped were those with the regular Essence polish.
I removed this with a cotton pad soaked in pure acetone and using the foil method for about a minute or two. I had to rub and scrape off what was left on my nails a bit. Nothing serious.
I did this while watching TV and under Molly the Cat's watchful eye. She's spending a few days with her auntie.
Have you ever tried gel polishes? They're great if you want to forget about your nails for a few days.
And if they're as affordable as these, so much the better.

UDLS/NOTW: China Glaze 'Awakening'.
Hola, chicas:

Hi gorgeous,
I'm back one more time with a mani, but one with a twist to make it last even longer.
After my last visit to the hair salon, which I left sporting a gel mani that I recently shared with you, I was left wondering that even if removal is trickier, gels do stay true to their promises regarding long-lasting wear times.
As for me, I'm terribly frustrated when my manis get ruined after washing my hair and there's no point ditching my regular polishes to get gels, is there? Anyway, I turned to youtube and online reviews and decided to try something in between: using a gel base and top coat with regular polishes.
I cured the China Glaze polish on the lamp as well.

To be honest the experiment has exceeded my expectations, as my mani lasted a whopping 11 days. In the meantime, I'd washed my tresses three times and it was only by the third time that the polish began to peel.
Removal consisted of soaking a small piece of cotton pad in pure acetone and wrapping my nails for a couple minutes in foil. I then rubbed the pad and carefully scraped off the remaining product. Eventually, I also gave them a final clean-up with one of those dip-in nail polish remover bottles. The last step was to pamper my nails with some oil.
The gel base and topcoat I used are from *Amazon*, although you can get them cheaper at Aliexpresss as long as you don't mind the wait. The set was €9.99. The lamp I used is from Aldi.
What other people do is mix some gel topcoat with the same amount of regular polish, but you know I'm a sucker for quick fixes, lol.
How do you make your manis last longer?
All suggestions are welcome.
See you!

Manicura de gel / Gel manicure
¡Hola guapas!

Hi gorgeous!
It's mani time today, but I'm downright cheating with this mani, as it's not one I did myself, rather, I got it done by my local hairdresser.
I can't tell you exactly what brands she used. I do know that the burgundy shade came in a really small bottle. The brand was a Dutch one, Max Brands or something like that, but it was made in China.
What really caught my eye was the fact that she used a UV lamp from Lidl-Silvercrest, to cure the different products she applied. I did know that some tradespeople (in construction, for instance) use specialized tools from Lidl.
She did this mani on July 18th and it lasted until the 29th. I must say a couple days before it chipped I filed my nails a bit, as they were on the long side, which may have affected their wear time.
All in all, I've been incredibly pleased with my first time having a gel mani.

UDLS / NOTW: Color Club 'Love 'em, leave 'em'.
Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,
Here's my latest mani.
Day 1 (Tuesday): I painted my nails at noon. I gave them a coat of Nail Envy and a few minutes later, a generous one of this beautiful holo from Color Club.
I left my nails dry for a couple minutes before finishing with my trusted Essence BTGN topcoat.

Day 3 (Thursday): Not that I've done anything special, but the lacquer on three nails on my right hand is fairly chipped.
When I applied OPI's basecoat I noticed it was slightly thicker and yellower than before, so I'm wondering whether it's lost effectiveness.
This is what happens when you go from painting your nails on a regular basis to giving yourself a mani once in a blue moon. Nail polishes do dry out.
Or maybe because holo nail polishes are just too delicate.
Well, this is all for now.
See you soon.

UDLS / NOTW: Skeyndor #17 + #315.
Hola chicas:
Hi ladies,
Today I'm back with a mani featuring my latest street market finds, two nail polishes from the Spanish spa brand Skeyndor.
I applied a coat of the Essence Studio Nails anti-split base sealer. Once dry, I applied a generous layer of the darkest shade - 17- in all nails except on my ring fingers, where I used the lighter colour. I can't really tell whether the last digit is 3 or 5, as the number is a bit blurry. Marian says the last digit is 5.
It has nice gold flecks that are visible not only in the bottle.
A few minutes later, I finished the mani off with a coat of the Essence Better Than Gel Nails top sealer, one of my favourites as you're probably well aware at this rate.
I must say I was utterly impressed by how well these polishes fared. I washed my hair a couple of days after I painted them and they made it unscathed. I removed the polish two days after that, as the nails on my right hand didn't survive a cleaning spree, though the nails on my left hand were pretty much intact.
Well, this is all for now.
See you around.
Nos vemos pronto.

Manicura de Nochevieja / NYE mani: Nails Inc 'Wardour Mews'.
Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,
It's been quite a while since the last mani I shared with you, so I thought that New Year's Eve was an excellent occasion for nail polishing.
I borrowed the products from Marox this time.
I chose this polish from Nails Inc., from a set of four that Marox bought at TK Maxx in Dublin.
I find both the shade and the effect hard to describe, so I think it's better to see it for yourselves.
I used a base coat from Essence.
After that, two thin coats of this polish from Nails Inc., and a top coat from the Essence 'Better Than Gel Nails' range.
Unlike Poshé's top coat, this one from Essence has to be applied over dry polish, so you'll have to wait for a while after applying the nail polish.
This mani has lasted for a week, which is great.
Well, this is all for now.
I hope not to be this lazy with manis this year.
See you around.
