Productos terminados / 'Finito' products 2021 (II).

Hola, chicas: Aquí venimos a enseñaros los productos que hemos terminado últimamente. 1- Exfoliante microdermabrasión Martiderm (Marian).     Me lo regaló marox, y la verdad es que fue todo un acierto. Tanto es así, que cuando se acabó, ya tenía encargado otro nuevo, que es el que estoy usando ahora. 2- Perfume 'Eternity Moment' de Calvin Klein. Otro acierto de marox. En general, me suelen gustar todos los perfumes de Calvin Klein. Al menos, los que he probado hasta ahora. Creo que la compró en PerfumesClub. 3- Gel hidratante energizante de Origins (minitalla).   Este gel vino en un cracker de Sephora, con otros productos de la marca.  Me ha gustado mucho, por lo que no descartaría repetir con el tamaño normal. 4- Exfoliante corporal 'Hot Chocolate' de Giovanni. Este también me lo regaló marox hace tiempo, y lo tenía un poco abandonado. No porque no me gustara, sino por pereza. Pero con la que está cayendo últimamente, he decidido mimarme un poco. Me gusta mucho el tamaño del gránulo, exfolia sin irritar la piel, y además huele fenomenal. 5- Manteca corporal de granada ecológica y bayas de Goji, de Cien (Marian). Me gustan mucho este tipo de mantecas, y de vez en cuando pico con una.  Tienen muy buen precio y me gusta cómo me hidratan la piel. Bien, éstos han sido nuestros terminados hasta ahora. Hi girls,   Here we are again ready to show you what we've used up recently. 1- Microdermabrasion scrub from Martiderm (Marian). Marox gave it to me, and it's been a real hit. To the point that when I eventually used it up, I'd already ordered a new one, which is the one I'm using now. 2- 'Eternity Moment' perfume from Calvin Klein.     Another hit from marox. I like all the fragrances from Calvin Klein I've tried so far. She ordered this online from PerfumesClub.   3- Energy Boosting Moisturizing gel, from Origins (mini size). This one was included in a Christmas cracker from Sephora, together with other stuff from the brand. I like it very much, so I wouldn't mind repurchasing, only in the regular size. 4- 'Hot Chocolate' sugar body scrub from Giovanni.   Marox gave it to me quite a long time ago, and I abandoned it. But I like it very much, I didn't use it because I'm lazy, that's it. But given the current situation, I decided to pamper myself a bit. I like the size of the exfoliating particles, it scrubs  your skin without irritating it, and it smells great. 5- Organic pomegranate and Goji berries body butter, from Cien (Marian). I like this kind of body butters, so I use to buy one of these from time to time. These from Lidl are very cheap and I like the way they moisturize my skin. Well, these have been our 'empties' so far. Tell us if you've tried any. See you.

Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products 2021 (I).

Hola, chicas: Aquí estamos de nuevo para enseñaros los productos que hemos terminado últimamente. 1- Mascarilla de arcilla azul de Sephora (Marian). Me ha encantado este formato. Se aprovecha muchísimo. Pone que da para 4 usos, pero yo he tenido para muchísimos más. ¿Quizá 40? No sé si tantos, pero desde luego bastantes más de 4. 2- Mascarilla de miel de manuka de Sephora (Marian). Es una mascarilla de tisú, que viene impregnada de sérum. Con este tipo de mascarillas me suelen salir granos después; con ésta sólo me brillaba un poco la frente, así que fenomenal. Después, he estado usando el sérum una vez a la semana tras mi rutina de limpieza. Como véis en la foto, Molly no se pudo aguantar las ganas de olisquear y ver qué me traía entre manos. 3 - Espuma ducha de Rituals Hammam Delight, con eucalipto y romero (marox): Vino hace un montón de tiempo con alguna revista. Me ha durado mucho porque la teníamos en nuestra otra casa. Las colaboraciones que la marca hace con las revistas españolas son una buena oportunidad de hacerse con ellas. Me gustan, pero creo que no pagaría el precio de venta habiendo opciones agradables que cunden más. Tengo aquí al menos otra diferente para usar.  4 - Bálsamo labial Biocura - Aldi: Son nuestros bálsamos favoritos, por precio y calidad. Vienen en un paquete de 3 y creo que cuestan 2 euros. Dependiendo de la época, tienen una gama estándar o algún 'sabor' como miel, granada... Siempre que vamos a Aldi, que no es muy a menudo, compramos. Son ideales para llevar en el bolso, tener por casa, etc. Estos han sido nuestros terminados por ahora. ¿Habéis probado alguno? Contadnos abajo, en los comentarios. Hasta pronto.

Hi girls, Here we are again to show you our latest 'empties'. 1- Blue clay mask from Sephora (Marian). I love this kind of packaging, because you can make the most of it.  In theory, this is supposed to be used up to 4 times, but I got a lot more uses than that. Maybe 40? Well, maybe not that much, but way more than just 4. 2- Manuka honey mask from Sephora (Marian).   It's a sheet mask that comes drenched in essence. With these masks, I usually break out afterwards. but with this one my forehead only got a bit shiny, so great. I've been using the leftover essence once a week after my cleansing routine. As you can tell from the pic, Molly couldn't help herself and had to sniff out and see what I was up to.  3 - Hammam Delight Rituals Shower Foam with eucalyptus and rosemary (marox): This was an old magazine freebie it's taken me really long to use up because it was in our second home. Brands teaming up with beauty magazines are a great chance to get your hands on splurge items such as these. I like them, but I wouldn't pay the retail price for them, considering there are other spa-like options that are more affordable and that will give you more uses.   I still have at least one more Rituals shower foam to use here.   4 - Biocura - Aldi Lipbalm: These are our favourite balms, price and quality wise. They come in a pack of 3 and I believe they retail at €2. Depending on the season, you may get a standard selection or find other scents like honey and pomegranate. Every time we go to Aldi -not that often- we always get some. They're excellent to carry around in your bag, have at home, etc. These have been our 'empties' so far. Have you tried any? Productos Terminados / Finito Products 2020 (VI)

Hola, chicas:   Parece que poco a poco se va instalando el frío entre nosotros, al menos por Castilla. Así que coged una mantita y pasad con nosotras unas minutos, leyendo sobre nuestros últimos terminados.   1 - Gel argán TBS: Me hice con este gel gracias a una revista, probablemente Glamour, hace unos meses. Con muy poca cantidad cunde. Nos ha gustado mucho a las 2. De esta linea únicamente había probado un bálsamo labial en formato latita. Me gustaría probar la manteca corporal correspondiente, así que ojalá vuelvan las revistas a hacer colaboraciones de este tipo para hacernos con más productos. Gracias a estas colaboraciones, suelo tener solucionadas las 'potiduchas'. Tengo otros 2 por gastar, de otros números de la revista, el último vino con la edición mini, así que salió todavía más a cuenta que éste, que vino con el tamaño grande de la revista. 2 - Desodorante Sanex 0%: Lo compramos en Primaprix, donde solemos comprar este tipo de cosas últimamente. Nos ha gustado mucho y aunque no lo hemos vuelto a ver, lo tendremos en cuenta para el futuro. 3 - Mascarilla tissú Sephora de té verde (marox): Compré esta mascarilla en rebajas, como podéis ver y he tardado algo en usarla. Es de las que tenéis que retirar una capa antes de ponerla.  Con estas mascarillas suele sobrar esencia: yo suelo guardar el sobrante en la nevera y me suele dar para un par de usos. Hacedlo con precaución, eso sí.     4 - Exfoliante 'Fortune Scrub' de Rituals: Vino con una revista hace una eternidad. Llevaba tiempo en mmi ducha pero lo usé mucho al principio y luego rarara vez me acordaba de él. Eso sí, es muy agradable de usar, no está suspendido en aceite como otro que tengo a medias en formato tarro. Aunque suelo ser partidaria de los tarros por aquello de que se aprovechan más los productos, en este caso prefiero este tipo de exfoliante, pero por la fórmula en sí.      5 - Mousse rizos Deliplus: Ya no está a la venta desde hace tiempo. Me gustaba mucho en su momento, pero desde que empezamos a usar el Potion 9 la usábamos esporádicamente. La última vez que intenté usarla la textura había cambiado, así que a la basura sin dudarlo.    6 - Base para uñas 'Better than Gel Nails' de Essence: Siempre ha sido una de mis favoritas, especialmente teniendo en cuenta su precio. Ésta estaba en nuestra segunda casa y la pobre está toda pastosa, así que se va a la basura. Esto ha sido todo por el momento. Hasta pronto.

Hi girls,   It's slowly getting colder, at least here in Castille. So cozy up and spend a few minutes reading about  our latest 'empties'.   1 - TBS Argan Oil shower gel: I got my hands on this shower gel as a magazine freebie, most likely with Glamour, a few months ago. A little really goes a long way with this. We liked it very much. The only product I'd tried from their argan line was a lip balm in a tin jar. I'd love to try the body butter, so fingers crossed that they'll partner again with the brand so I can test other stuff too. Thanks to these collabs, my 'pleasure showers' are taken care of. I still have another 2 left, from different lines. They came with other issues, the last one with the pocket edition which is an even better deal than this was. 2 - Sanex 0% Deodorant: We bought this at Primaprix outlet supermarket, where we tend to get all this stuff lately. We liked it a lot and although we haven't seen it again there, we'll keep an eye on it for a future visit.     3 - Sephora Green Tea Sheet Mask (marox): I bought this at a sale, as you can see, but it's taken me a while to use it. It does have a protective layer you need to peel off before you put it on. As with most sheet masks, there is leftover essence, so I keep them in the fridge and the remaining product is enough for a couple uses. Do this at your own risk, though. 4 - Rituals 'Fortune Scrub': This was a magazine freebie, a lifetime ago. It's been in my shower for a really long time. Long story short: used it often at first but then sort of forgot about it. It is really nice to use, though, it isn't an oil-based scrub like another I have in use that comes in a tub. Although I normally go for products that come in a tub, I'd rather get this, but not because of the format but the formula itself.    5 - Styling mousse for curly hair from Deliplus (Mercadona supermarkets): It's no longer available and hasn't been in a while. I loved it back then, but ever since we switched to Potion9 I used it once in a blue moon. Last time I tried to do so, the texture was really funky, so it goes straight into our dustbin.      6 -  Essence 'Better than Gel Nails' base sealer: It's always been one of my favourites, especially considering how affordable it is. This was in our second home and it was all gooey, so I had to throw it away.   This is all for now. See you around.

Aquí estamos de nuevo para enseñaros nuestros últimos terminados.

1 - Manteca corporal de karité de TBS (marox): Me hice con esta manteca gracias a una revista, aunque ya la habría probado antes.
A pesar de ser de karité, no es de las más hidratantes que he probado de la marca (almendra y moringa).
Estas mantecas están bien si nos hacemos con ella a buen precio.

2- Aceite capilar de Kerastase (Marian).
Fue uno de nuestros hallazgos de mercadillo. Lo uso después de lavarme el cabello. Echo muy poquita cantidad en la palma de la mano, froto las manos y lo reparto por el pelo, sobre todo en las puntas.
Deja el pelo con mucho brillo.


3 - Desodorante Desert Essence de limón y árbol de té: Compré este desodorante hace ya tiempo y lo teníamos en nuestra otra casa. Marian lo intentó usar un par de veces, pero le irritaba la piel. Yo lo he podido aprovechar algo más, pero hacia el final parecía que también me irritaba un poco. No sé si es que al llevar ya un tiempo abierto estaba mal o qué. Puesto que últimamente estamos usando desodorantes sin aluminio de supermercado (Primaprix, principalmente), no repetiremos con éstos.
Lo compré en Vitacost o iHerb.

4 - Mini manteca Berry Bon Bon (y Moringa) de TBS: La primera (en la foto), la he podido terminar sin problema. La tenía en un neceser de viaje y la rescaté. Me daba miedo que se echara a perder. Por desgracia, es lo que me ha pasado con la de moringa. Mea culpa. Huele tan bien que me daba pena que se me gastara... y tonta de mí, he tenido que tirar lo que quedaba porque olía rancio. ¿Os pasan estas cosas?
La de frutos rojos vino con una revista, la otra la compramos aprovechando una promoción 3X2 en una tienda física que compramos en un viaje.

5 - Leche corporal hidratante de almendras MySkin. Creo que era la marca propia de los antiguos supermercados El Arbol, así que con eso ya os hacéis una idea del tiempo que hace que la compramos (la compró nuestra madre, a decir verdad). Estaba también en la otra casa y aprovechando las vacaciones, la hemos terminado.
Aunque lleva parafina líquida, ingrediente del que suelo huir, lo cierto es que hidrataba bien la piel. El dispensador no funcionaba muy bien, eso sí.

Here we are again to show you our latest empties.

1 - Shea TBS Body Butter (marox): I got my hands on this thanks to a magazine, although I'd used it before.
Despite this being based on shea, it isn't among their most moisturizing ones (those being the almond and moringa, in my experience).
These body butters are worth it as long as you can get them for cheap.

2 - Kerastase Hair Oil (Marian): It was one of our street market finds. I use it after washing my hair, only a small amount. Then I rub my hands together and spread it on my hair, specially the ends.
My hair looks very shiny.

 

3 - Desert Essence lemon tea tree deodorant: I bought this quite a while ago and it was at our second home. Marian used it a couple of times until it gave her a rash. I was able to use it longer, but eventually, it started to irritate my skin too. I don't whether it has to do with the fact that it had been in use for quite a while and had gone off or what. Considering that lately we've been sticking to aluminium-free brands available locally (namely, at Primaprix discount supermarket), we won't repurchase in the future.
I ordered this from Vitacost or iHerb.

4 - TBS mini body butters in Berry Bon Bon and Moringa: I was able to finish the former (pictured), which I had in a travel toiletry bag. I was afraid it would go bad and 'rescued' it from oblivion. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened to the latter. My bad. The TBS Moringa line smells so friggin' good that I am always sad to use it up and kept saving it for special occasions or getaways. Silly me. I had to throw the rest of it away because it did go bad. Does this ever happen to you?
The former was a magazine freebie and the latter was bought as part of a 3X2 deal at a brick and mortar shop that we bought on some holiday.

 
5 - Almond Body Milk, MySkin. I believe this was the store brand of a Spanish supermarket chain that went out of business, El Arbol. That gives you a good idea of the fact this has been with us for a while. It was in our second home too and since we got to spend some time there we made it a point to use it up.  
It contains paraffinum liquidum, an ingredient I stay away from -our mum got this-, but to be honest, this did a decent job at moisturizing our skin, though the pump dispenser wasn't very good.

Libros / Books: 'A Streetcat Named Bob' - James Bowen

Aquí os traigo la reseña de uno de los últimos libro que he leído.

Me sonaba vagamente este libro y en su día pensé que seguro que me gustaría. Cosas de la vida, lo teníamos en la biblioteca del trabajo y comencé a leerlo en mis ratos cubriendo la misma, poco antes del confinamiento.

James Bowen era un músico callejero que malvivía en las calles y en apartamentos de Londres arrastrando un doloroso y problemático pasado. Una noche escuchó los maullidos lastimeros de un gato herido en el descansillo de su piso. En su situación, lo último que podía permitirse era aceptar la responsabilidad de cuidar del gato pero su noble espíritu decidió hacerlo. Le llamó Bob. No por Dylan sino por un personaje de Twin Peaks que le gustaba mucho. Lo que no esperaba James era que haber conocido a ese gato iba a salvar su vida y ambos, entre aventuras, situaciones cómicas y, en ocasiones, peligrosas por las calles londinenses, iban a sanar sus propias heridas que arrastraban del pasado y les iba a dar a los dos una segunda oportunidad.

Si os gustan los animales, estoy segura de que este libro os encantará. No nos piden casi nada a cambio de un amor incondicional. En el caso de James, que primero se gana la vida como músico callejero y luego vendiendo un periódico benéfico *Big Issue* le aporta la visibilidad que le falta como persona con pocos recursos. Son muchas las razones que llevan a una persona a vivir en la calle: adicción, problemas psiquiátricos, el desempleo, el perder su vivienda, etc. En una ciudad como Londres, donde todo es carísimo, imagino que esto será más frecuente de lo normal.
Le ayuda a ganarse la vida y le da el empujón final para dejar atrás por fin sus problemas de adicción.
Para James, Bob es como un hijo, alguien por el que se desvive y que le impulsa a ser mejor persona.

Hace unos tres años se llevó la historia de James y Bob al cine. Os dejo el *trailer*.
Aprovechando la cuarentena, la he visto también por Internet. Aunque han cambiado algunos detalles respecto al libro, es muy recomendable también.

Y aquí os dejo otro video de Luna en acción, tan juguetona como siempre. Molly ayer tuvo visita al veterinario para una vacuna y está estupenda.

Here is my review of one of my latest reads.

I had a vague recollection of this book and thinking this would be right up my alley. It's a small world, I guess and it turns out this book happened to be in the library at work, so I started reading it while I was on call there shortly before the lockdown.

 James Bowen is a busker struggling to make a living sleeping rough or in vulnerable housing in London. He is also a recovering drug-addict, a result of his troubled youth. He goes home one night only to find a ginger injured cat in the hallway of his apartment building. Given his own situation, that was the last thing he needed, but he just couldn't ignore the suffering animal. He named it Bob, not after Bob Dylan but after a character from Twin Peaks he really liked. What James couldn't expect was this chance encounter with the cat would save his life and that together, they would have their fair share of adventure and fun situations but also face danger in the streets of London. Their wounds will heal, they will leave their troubled past behind and get a second chance in life.

If you're an animal lover, you're going to love this book. They ask for very little in return for their unconditional love. As for James, at first, he makes a living as a busker and then becomes a *Big Issue* magazine seller. Having Bob with him provides him with a companion but also with the visibility he lacked with his hand-to-mouth existence.
There are many people sleeping rough for different reasons: addiction, psychiatric conditions, unemployment, having their homes repossessed, etc. In a city like London where everything is crazy expensive, this will be for sure a problem more common than we think.
Bob turns his life around and gives him the final boost he needs to stay clean and leave his addiction behind.
Bob becomes a son to James, someone he goes out of his way to protect and who makes him want to be a better person.


James' and Bob's story made it to the big screen about three years ago. Here is the *trailer*.
I took the chance and saw that as well -the upsides of being stuck at home. Despite the fact that some aspects have changed, it is definitely worth watching as well.

And here's a funny video featuring Luna. She's as playful as always. And Molly went to the vet yesterday for a shot and she's as fit as a fiddle.

Libros / Books: 'Nadie lo ha visto' - Mari Jungstedt

Hoy os traigo la reseña del último libro en castellano que he terminado, ya durante el encierro forzoso a causa del coronavirus.
Esto se prolonga, como ya nos temíamos, por lo que no tardaré tanto en hablaros de más libros. 

Se trata de una novela negra sueca, de esas que tanto me gustan, pero de una *autora* que no conocía aún más que de oídas.
La he leído en formato digital y no se ha hecho pesada, ya que eran poco más de 200 páginas. Os dejo con un resumen de la trama.

Mientras se prepara para recibir a un montón de veraneantes, la isla de Gotland es sacudida por el brutal asesinato de una joven y su perro. Es el primero de una serie de asesinato a manos de un asesino que tiene atemorizados a lugareños y turistas por igual. El inspector encargado del caso, Anders Knutas, llega a un pacto con el periodista para atrapar al asesino antes de que mueran más mujeres. 

Como decía, la historia se lee rápido. No he tenido la sensación de que sobraban páginas y ha habido suspense hasta el final, ya que el asesino no era quien cabía pensar.
En cuanto a las víctimas, una vez que intuímos cuál es la motivación del asesino, me ha resultado difícil empatizar con ellas.
Lo sentí más por el pobre perro, la verdad.
Recuerdo tener la misma sensación con uno de los libros de Jussi Adler Olsen.

Por lo que respecta a los personajes, tenemos al detective Anders Knutas y a su compañera
Karin Jacobsson. Y no podía faltar en la historia alguien que se entromete y que ayuda a resolver el caso. En las novelas de Camilla Lackberg se trata de la mujer del detective y en este caso tenemos a un periodista de sucesos que se traslada desde Estocolmo para cubrir la noticia. 
Al tratarse de la primera novela de una larga serie, se nos dan pinceladas de los mismos y es de suponer que les conozcamos mejor en sucesivas entregas. 
Al igual que con Lackberg, en algunos capítulos el narrador es el asesino. 

Me ha gustado y no descarto leer las siguientes en el futuro.

Imagino que en estos días, estaréis aprovechando para leer un poco también.

I have a book review for you today, featuring my latest read in Spanish that I finished during the Covid-19 lockdown.
It has now been extended, as we all imagined, so it won't take me long to post the next one.

My latest read is another crime novel, one of those Scandi ones I enjoy so much but this time around, from a crime fiction *writer* I hadn't explored yet myself.
I've read this as an e-book and it didn't feel long at all. Well, it was a little over 200 pages. Anyway, here's the publishers' blurb.

'Unseen'
In the midst of preparing for the midsummer tourist season, the island of Gotland is rocked by the brutal killings of a young woman and her dog, a crime that becomes only the first as a serial killer terrorizes tourists and locals alike and brings Inspector Anders Knutas into an alliance with journalist Johan Berg to find the murderer before more women die.

This was, as I mentioned, a fast read. I didn't get the feeling that the book had too many pages and the story was gripping to the very end. I didn't guess who the murderer was, for one.
As for the victims, once you guess the killer's motive I found it hard to feel sorry for them, honestly.
I did feel sorry for the poor, faithful doggy.
I remember a similar thing happening with one of Jussi Adler Olsen's books.

Regarding the characters, we have a team of detectives, Anders Knutas and Karin Jacobsson. You can't have a detective (or two) without having someone snooping in. In Camilla Lackberg's novels it is the inspector's wife and here we have a journalist from Stockholm that has travelled to the island to report on the case.
Since it is the first part in a long series they're presented broadly and we will probably get to know them better in future installments.
Just like with Lackberg, some chapters are narrated from the killer's perspective.

I enjoyed the book and will read others from this series in the future.

Libros / Books: 'The Silver Linings Playbook' / 'Un final feliz (El lado bueno de las cosas)

Hoy os traigo una reseña bibliográfica. Así os distraéis de tanta noticia relacionada con 'el rey chino' como dijo un día nuestra madre.

Como dice *Mikhail Varshavski*, un médico al que sigo hace tiempo en Youtube, 'Alert, not anxious'. Extremad la higiene, lavaos con agua y jabón y si toséis o estornudáis o lo hace alguien a vuestro alrededor, cubrid vuestra boca o nariz. La mayoría de estas medidas deberían tomarse habitualmente por higiene y buenos modales y no sólo es algo que haya que empezar a hacer a partir de ahora porque haya un nuevo virus pululando. Los *medios de comunicación*, como siempre, van a lo suyo: a conseguir audiencias o clicks.

Bueno, al lío. Os dejo con el resumen de la editorial.

Pat Peoples, sufre de amnesia y ha desarrollado una teoría muy peculiar según la cual su vida es una película producida por Dios. Y la misión que le ha dado Dios es ponerse en forma y convertirse en un buen tipo para recuperar a su ex esposa. Bueno, Pat es un poco disfuncional y, por esta razón, ha pasado algunos años en un centro de salud mental.
Ahora ha regresado al hogar familiar y allí, con la ayuda de su madre (una sufrida mujer que acaba por declararse en huelga de cocina y limpieza), su padre (un hombre gruñón que no tiene otra manera de relacionarse con su hijo que viendo deportes por la tele) y su hermano (un calculador nuevo rico que termina por mostrar su lado sensible) emprende su particular plan de rehabilitación y reconquista.
Pero los caminos del señor son inescrutables, y el final feliz de Pat Peoples está muy lejos de ser como él había imaginado.

Comencé a leer esta novela en el regreso de nuestro viaje a Oslo. Entre que mi eReader está ya algo viejito y no me recuerda qué libro estoy leyendo ni por qué página me voy, he tardado en retomar la lectura.

Me ha parecido interesante que el autor escogiera como protagonista a un personaje con problemas psicológicos. Me parece perfecto para normalizar situaciones como las depresiones o los trastornos bipolares, tan a la orden del día en nuestra sociedad y que rara vez suelen abordarse en la ficción y a veces cuando se hace es para emplumárselo al 'malo' de la novela.

En cuanto a los personajes, el padre de Pat aporta tan poco a la historia, que casi se lo podrían haber ahorrado. Supongo que está ahí para hacernos ver mejor con todo lo que ha de lidiar la abnegada madre de Pat.

Debo decir que no he visto la *película* que se hizo posteriormente a partir de esta novela. Quizá en un futuro, quién sabe.

Voy a intentar leer más de ahora en adelante. Ahora mismo estoy con una novela nórdica de misterio, que estoy leyendo en español.

Today I have a book review for the blog. The purpose is for you to think about something else rather than  'The Chinese King' as our mum one day referred to it.

A doctor I've been following for some time on Youtube, *Mikhail Varshavski*, says 'Alert, not anxious'. 
Make a special effort with your cleaning and hygiene, wash your hands with soap and water. Cover your nose and mouth if you cough or sneeze or others around you do.
Those should be second-nature in our daily lives as it's just good manners and not something that you should now start doing only because this nasty new virus is lurking around. *Misinformation* in the media is nothing new, though. They only care about TV ratings or clicks.

I digress. Back onto the topic. Here's is the publisher's blurb on the novel.


Pat Peoples has amnesia and a very odd theory: his life is a movie produced by God. And his God-given mission is to become physically fit and emotionally literate, whereupon God will ensure a happy ending for him—the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. Here's the thing: Pat is also a bit dysfunctional and that's why he has spent several years in a mental health facility.
The problem is, Pat's now home, and everything feels off.  His mother is an uncomplaining woman who goes on a cooking and cleaning strike and his dad is a grumpy man whose only interaction with his son is by watching American football on TV. His brother is a calculating nouveau-riche that will eventually show his vulnerable side. Pat sets out to get back on track and his estranged wife back.
God's ways are inscrutable, though and Pat People's happy ending may be way too different from what he had envisioned.

I started reading this novel on the way back from Oslo. It's taken me this long, in part because my eReader is getting old and no longer keeps track neither of the book I was reading last nor which page I was on.

I find it remarkable that the writer chose to have an imperfect main character. It is a great step to destigmatize psychological problems such as depression or bipolar disorder, more common in our society than you would imagine.
These are aspects that are seldom explored in fiction and when they do they'll be used in connection to the 'bad guy' in the story.

Character-wise, Pat's father brings so little to the story that one could do without him. I guess his only role was to emphasize what a selfless person Pat's mum is and what she has to deal with on a daily basis.

I have to say I haven't seen the *film* that was based on this novel. Maybe in the future, who knows.

I'm doing my best to catch up on my reading from now on. At the moment, I'm reading another Scandi-crime novel in Spanish.

Productos Terminados / Product Empties 2020 (II)

Hola, chicas:
Aquí estamos de nuevo para enseñaros los productos que hemos terminado últimamente.

1 - Perfilador automático Essence azul, tono #09 Cool Down (marox): Ya sabéis que me gustan los perfiladores de ojos únicamente en formato automático. Los de Essence dan muy buen resultado y están disponibles en muchos colores. La mina no se queda dura con el paso del tiempo, cosa que sí me ha pasado con, por ejemplo, los antiguos de Mercadona.

2 - Desodorante Dove sin aluminio, pomelo y hierbalimón (Marox):
Lo compramos en *Primaprix* y a las dos nos ha gustado más la variedad de pepino, ya que irrita menos la piel tras la depilación y protege mejor. Eso sí, hay que tener en cuenta de que se trata de desodorantes y no antitranspirantes.

3- Champú de agua de coco de Organics OGX (Marian).
Es totalmente transparente y un poco espeso, lo que quiere decir que con poca cantidad es suficiente.
Deja el pelo hidratado, pero sin sensación grasa.
No descarto repetir con él, aunque de momento he vuelto a los champús sólidos.
A mi hermana se le hizo un poco denso, decía que le dejaba el pelo un poco apelmazado, al tenerlo fino.
Lo compré en una perfumería Arenal.



4- Gel de dermabrasión facial de Origins (Marian).
Es una mini talla que venía en un cracker que compré en los precios locos de Sephora.
Me ha gustado mucho. Tiene un gránulo de un tamaño adecuado para exfoliar la piel sin irritarla.

5- Manteca corporal de haba tonka, de Cien, de venta en Lidl (Marian).
Ya la había probado, y me había gustado mucho, así que volví a comprarla.
Se extiende muy bien en la piel, y la deja hidratada, pero sin sensación grasa.
Por lo visto en febrero han debido tener una nueva linea de granada o goji, que también incluía una manteca corporal, pero a nuestra tienda más cercana no ha llegado.

6 - Serum de ácido hialurónico coreano de Scinic (marox): Un clásico que no puede faltarme, aunque a veces he estado tentada de probar otras marcas. Como siempre, lo compré por Ebay.

Bueno, esto ha sido todo por ahora.

Here we are again to show you our latest 'empties'.

1 - Essence automatic eyeliner pencil in #09 Cool Down (marox): You know that I only use eyeliner pencils that come in a twist-up format. The Essence ones are a great bang for your buck and work great, as well as being available in a wide range of shades. The pencil lead doesn't harden over time, unlike others I've tried, i.e. the old Deliplus -Mercadona ones.

2 - Dove aluminium-free deodorant, grapefruit and lemongrass: We got this from Outlet supermarket Primaprix and we both prefer the other scent available, with cucumber extract, since it doesn't irritate the skin after shaving and provides far better protection.
That being said, bear in mind these are just deodorants and not antiperspirants.



3- Organics (Ogx) coconut water shampoo (Marian).
It's totally transparent and the consistency is a bit thick, so a small amount goes a long way.
It leaves your hair moisturised, but without a greasy feeling.
I will probably repurchase it in the future, but now I'm using shampoo bars again.
My sister said it was a bit too thick and heavy for her thin hair. 
I bought this at Arenal drugstores.

4- Origins 'Modern Friction' dermabrasion gel (Marian).
It's a mini size included in a cracker I bought at the Sephora sales.
I like it very much. Its exfoliating particles are the right size to gently scrub the skin on your face without irritating it.



5- Tonka bean body butter by Cien (sold at Lidl supermarkets) (Marian).
I've already used it before, and I liked it, so I bought it again.
It's very easy to apply, and leaves your skin moisturized, but not greasy. 
Lidl supermarkets apparently had in February another range based on pomegranate or goji which included a body butter, but it was nowhere to be seen at our nearest supermarket. 

6 - Scinic hyaluronic acid ampoule (marox): It's a staple in my skincare routine, although I've been tempted to try out other ones a few times. As always, I got this off Ebay.

Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products 2020 (I)

Hola, guapas:
Aquí venimos a enseñaros los productos que hemos terminado últimamente.


1 -  Perfilador automático P2 Perfect Look Kajal '010 Black' (marox): Me pilló de sorpresa, ya que prácticamente se me ha terminado a la vez que otro marrón de Essence. Conseguimos este producto gracias a una seguidora, que se ofreció a comprarnos unas cosillas aprovechando que estaba viviendo en Alemania.
Es una lástima que esta marca no se venda aquí en España o por Internet, así que probablemente compre uno de Essence para reponerlo.
Es muy, muy pigmentado y cómodo al ser automático.



2 - Pasta de dientes Jasön (marox): A mi hermana y a mí nos ha gustado, aunque de momento no repondremos (no tenemos pedidos previstos a Vitacost). Eso sí, a nuestra madre, no le ha gustado nada. Decía que la notaba como terrosa, cosa que ni mi hermana ni yo hemos percibido.

3 - Mascarilla de nido de pájaro de My Beauty Diary (marox): Como ya habréis notado, últimamente me he aficionado a este tipo de mascarillas y ya hace meses pedí unas cuantas de esta marca taiwanesa. La mascarilla en sí trae un plástico que hay que despegar antes de poderla utilizar.
Como todas ellas, venía muy impregnada y he podido usar el sérum restante durante varios días -conservándolo en la nevera.
Me resultó agradable de usar, aunque la forma de la mascarilla es de las que peor se me ajustaba. Es hidratante y no irrita en absoluto la piel.
Las compré en Ebay.



4 - Máscara 'The Giant XXL' de Catrice (marox): Yo mejor diría 'The Dry One'. Quizá no sea una buena idea aprovechar las liquidaciones para hacerme con ellas. El caso es que cuando la he abierto me he encontrado con ésto. He intentado usarla un par de veces, pero es desesperante. No sé si me ha salido rana o es que este producto es así de malo.


5 - Mascarilla tissú de Hanskin de baba de caracol (marox): Compré varias en su día, así que no me explayo mucho. Está bien, la piel se nota suave e hidratada, no irrita la piel, aunque tampoco he notado mucho más. He usado varias ya.



6 - Bálsamo desmaquillante de moringa de ENature (marox): Lo compré por Ebay y me ha gustado mucho. La única pega es que es caro para la cantidad que trae.

7 - Mascarillas de pelo Lidl y Natura Estonica: La primera al principio me gustó, pero después se me hacía algo pesada. A su favor, el formato tarro me resulta más cómodo. La segunda me ha gustado mucho, a mí y a toda la familia, la pena es que Druni últimamente no ha vuelto a tenerla. Tiene cosas sueltas de algunas lineas, pero no la gama completa.

Here we are again to show you what we've used up lately.

1 - P2 Perfect Look Kajal automatic eye pencil in '010 Black' (marox): This caught me off guard, I didn't think I'd use it up at almost the same time as a brown Essence one.
We got this product thanks to one of our followers, who kindly offer to buy us a few goodies given that she was living in Germany.
It's a pity this brand isn't available here in Spain or online, so I may get one from Essence to replace it.
It's incredibly pigmented and convenient, being an automatic pencil.

2 - Jasön Toothpaste (marox): My sister and I both enjoyed using this, although we won't repurchase for now. We have no Vitacost orders in sight. However, our mum occasionally used it too but didn't like it one bit. She said it was gritty, something neither myself nor Marian ever noticed.

3 - Imperial Bird's Nest Sheet Mask from MyBeauty Diary (marox): No doubt you'll have noticed I've jumped into the sheet mask bandwagon too and ordered a handful of these Taiwanese ones a while ago.
These masks come with a protective film you need to peel off before using.
They are also drenched in essence, so much that I used the leftovers for several days by keeping this refrigerated.
It was really nice to use, although the fit on this one was probably the worst I've tried so far. It didn't irritate my skin either.
Got this on Ebay.


4 -  Catrice 'The Giant XXL' mascara (marox): I'd rather call it 'The Dry One'. It may not be such a great idea after all to get mascaras when they're being discontinued. Anyway, this is what I got when I opened it. I've tried to use it a couple times but it's really useless. I don't know whether I got the crappy one in the bunch or they were all that terrible.



5 - Hanskin Snail sheet mask (marox): I got a pack of this a while ago, so I'll keep my impressions short. It's nice, skin feels moisturized and soft, doesn't irritate it, but that's it. I've used several of these now.


6 - Moringa cleansing balm from ENature (marox): I purchased it from Ebay and truly love it. The only downside is that the jar is rather small for the price. 

 

7 - Lidl and Natura Estonica Hair Masks: I liked the first one at first, but then I noticed it was a bit heavy for my thin hair.  I do like the fact that it comes in a jar, much more practical than other formats. I really liked the second one and so did the whole family. Sadly, Druni didn't stock it the last few times I went shopping there. They do have a small selection of items from some lines, but not their entire range.

Hola, chicas:

Aquí venimos con nuestros últimos terminados.

1 - Champú Dermo Calm Kerastase (marox): Compré este champú en el mercadillo local -a veces hay cosas de marcas como L'Oreal o Kerastase, puesto que la fábrica está aquí. Me ha gustado bastante, es agradable de usar y ayuda con las molestias propias del cuero cabelludo sensible y propenso a la descamación y picores como el mío.

2 - Crema de peinado Potion 9 de Sebastian (marox): Gasté el bote de 150 ml que había comprado hace unos meses en Notino -ya tengo de repuesto el grande-, puesto que nos gusta mucho a todas.

3- Bálsamo labial (marox): Compré este bálsamo labial en Vitacost hace algún tiempo y ha llegado a su fin. No está mal, pero tampoco es para tirar cohetes.



4- Perfume Lolita Lempicka (Marian).
Marox sabía que me gustaba y por eso me la regaló.
La he estado usando más o menos a diario, aunque reconozco que para verano se hace un poco fuerte.
Ahora estoy usando otra que, cómo no, también me regaló ella.

5- Máscara de pestañas 3 en 1 de Flormar (Marian).
Lo de 3 en 1 es porque su cepillo tiene tres posiciones, dependiendo del resultado que queramos en nuestras pestañas (más o menos volumen).
Y esto me ha encantado.  Me ha gustado tanto el cepillo que lo voy a guardar.



Estos han sido nuestros terminados.

Here we are with our latest empties.

1 - Dermo Calm Kerastase Shampoo (marox): I bought this at the local flea market -every now and then you find some L'Oreal or Kerastase products, since their production facilities are located in the city-. I liked it very much, it's pleasant to use and it does help with the itching and scaling that sensitive scalp like mine has.

2 - Sebastian Potion 9 styling treatment (marox): I used up the 150ml I'd purchased not that long ago from Notino. Needless to say I already have a bigger backup, since we all love it.

3 - Lip Balm (marox): I got this from Vitacost and it was on its last legs, to the point I couldn't twist it up to get more product out. Not bad, but nothing to write home about either.

4 - Lolita Lempicka EdP (Marian): Marox knew how much I love this, so she bought it for me.
I've been using it more or less on a daily basis, although to be honest I feel it is a bit too strong in the summertime.
I'm currently using something else that was also a present from her.



5 - Flormar 3-in-1 mascara (Marian): It has one of those adjustable wands - hence the name- that you can play with depending on how you want your lashes to look, with more or less volume.
I loved that bit and I'm keeping the wand.

Libros / Books: 'El brillo de la estrella del sur' - Elizabeth Haran

¡Hola a todos!
Hoy me gustaría hablaros del úlltimo libro que he leído. He tardado en terminarlo y no porque no me haya gustado. Si os apetece saber qué me ha parecido esta novela, seguid leyendo.

'El brillo de la estrella del Sur' es una novela "landscape" o narrativa romántica que combina aventuras y ambientación exótica, de la escritora Elizabeth Haran, superventas en muchos países. Os dejo con un resumen:

Inglaterra, 1918. La Primera Guerra Mundial golpea con fuerza el país y el Hospital Victoria acoge a los heridos. Y un amor florece entre las bombas.

La enfermera Elena y el doctor Lyle se enamoran apasionadamente, su deseo mutuo es casi tan fuerte como el que sienten por salvar vidas. Desde el comienzo, la joven pareja debe ocultar su relación.

Sin embargo Lyle no ha sido del todo sincero con Elena. Abrumado por la culpa, rompe todo contacto y regresa a su tierra para contraer matrimonio con su ex-novia. Los padres de Elena han arreglado para ella un matrimonio con un hombre italiano mayor que ella, que llevará a esta reticente novia hasta la lejana Australia.

Años después, Lyle responde a un anuncio para el servicio médico áreao de las antípodas. Mientras tanto, Elena ha aprendido a sobrevivir en las áridas y solitarias tierras australianas. También ha guardado un secreto que podría destrozar a su familia.

He disfrutado mucho con esta novela. Enseguida te metes en la historia y en ningún momento he tenido la sensación de que sobraban páginas, personajes o subtramas. Todos los elementos que introduce la autora cumplen un propósito, ya sea conocer mejor a los personajes para empatizar con ellos -o no-  o que desarrollemos un sexto sentido, anticipándonos a lo que puede pasar en la historia.
Por poner alguna pega, el desenlace se me hizo demasiado corto, hasta el punto de preguntarme si esta novela era parte de una serie en la que viéramos la evolución de los diferentes personajes, pero no es el caso.

No descarto leer algo más de esta autora, que en poco más de 200 páginas ha sido capaz de plasmar una bonita historia.

Y como sé que os gusta verlas de vez en cuando, os dejo con una foto de la "familia peluda", Molly y Luna, que han pasado bastantes días juntas este verano.

Today I'd like to tell you about my latest read, this time in Spanish. It took me a while to finish this and not because I didn't enjoy it.
If you want to find out how I liked it, just read on.

'Beyond the Red Horizon' is a Landscape Novel by Elizabeth Haran, a best-selling Australian author.
Here's an excerpt from the editor:

England, 1918. World War One rages, and Victoria Hospital harbours the wounded. Between the falling bombs, a love is blooming.

Nurse Elena and Doctor Lyle fall hard for each other. Their passion rivalled only by their desire to save lives. Doomed from the start, the young lovers must hide their relationship.

But Lyle has kept a secret from Elena. Guilt-ridden, he breaks off contact and returns home to marry his ex-girlfriend. Elena's parents arrange her marriage to an older Italian who takes his unwilling bride to Australia.

Years later, Lyle answers an ad for the Flying Doctor Service "Down Under". Meanwhile Elena has learned to survive on the outback. And she has kept quiet all these years about a scandal that could tear her family apart.


I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It's easy to get caught up in the story and you never feel that there are chapters, characters or subplots that the writer could have spared readers. Every single element in the story serves a purpose, be it to have a better understanding of characters or to emphathise with them -or not- or for us to develop a sixth sense about what may happen next. 
If asked to find fault with something, I did feel the dénouement was a little rushed and short for my liking to the point that I wondered if this novel was part of some saga where we'd meet these characters again, but it's not the case as far as I'm aware of. 

I don't rule out having a look at her other work, since she succeeded in creating a beautiful story in a little more than 200 pages, which is no easy feat if you ask me. 

And knowing as I do how much you enjoy seeing them, here's a picture of our 'furry family' Molly and Luna, who have spent quite some time together this summer.

Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products 2019 (V)

Aquí venimos a enseñaros nuestros últimos terminados, después de un pequeño descanso vacacional. Pronto tendréis unas cuantas entradas al respecto.

1 - Exfoliante de azúcar moreno de Skinfood (marox): Compré este exfoliante como parte de un cracker de Navidad de Sephora del 2017. Tiene una textura curiosa, no resulta agresivo para la piel. Sobre todo al principio, hay que mezclar bien el producto con una espátula, para que resulte uniforme. Me ha gustado mucho, aunque como de momento tengo un exfoliante grande en uso y otro más del kit no compraré ninguno más.

2 - Esencia con galactomyces y extracto de rosa de Secret Key (marox): He sucumbido a la moda de las esencias coreanas con ésta bastante asequible de la marca Secret Key. Una de mis youtubers favoritas, Gothamista, la sacó en un video de cuidado facial asequible. Me ha gustado mucho, lo suficiente como para repetir -aunque he estado tentada de probar otras. Con tantas marcas, es lo que pasa-. Lo compré por Ebay, como casi toda la cosmética asiática que tengo.

3- Exfoliante facial "Black Sugar" de Skinfood (Marian).
Este producto, al igual que el exfoliante que os ha enseñado Marox al inicio de esta entrada, venía en el cracker de Navidad de 2017.
Lo he estado usando entre una y dos veces por semana, y la verdad es que deja la piel muy suave.
Los gránulos tienen el tamaño adecuado para exfoliar la piel sin irritar.



4- Crema facial de día Marilou Bio (Marian).
La compré en *Arenal*, y me ha gustado mucho.
Hidrata mi piel sin aportar grasa, y se absorbe enseguida.
No descarto repetir con ella en el futuro.
En este momento estoy usando otra de un cracker de Origins, y me está gustando mucho también.

5- Exfoliante microdermoabrasión con vitamina C de The Body Shop (Marian).
Esta la he jubilado por enranciamiento.
No quedaba mucho producto ya, pero no he podido terminarla.
Al tener vitamina C, he tenido la precaución de usarla siempre por la noche, cuando ya no me va a dar el sol.
De momento no repetiré.
Ahora mismo estoy usando un gel de microdermoabrasión del cracker de Origins que os he dicho antes.

Y esto ha sido todo por ahora.

Here we come to show you our latest empties, after a short vacation hiatus. Stay tuned for some related posts soon.

1 - Skinfood Black Sugar Wash-off Mask (marox): This scrub was one of the products included in a Sephora cracker from 2017. It has a really unusual texture, which isn't harsh on the skin. Specially at first, I had to mix the product with a spatula to make sure the granules were evenly distributed. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I do have a larger face scrub in use as well as another one from the same kit, so I won't be getting new ones any time soon.


2 - Galactomyces Essence, Limited Rose edition from Secret Key: I finally jumped on the Korean essence bandwagon and chose this LE one that was very affordable and was featured on an affordable skincare video from Gothamista. I really enjoyed it, enough to repurchase, although I was tempted to try some other brands. Variety may be the spice of life, but makes shopping much harder.
I got if off Ebay, like most of my Asian skincare I own.

3- 'Black Sugar' face scrub, from Skinfood (Marian).
This one was also included in the Sephora cracker that Marox has mentioned above.
I've been using it once or twice a week, and it leaves my skin very soft.
Exfoliating particles are the right size to scrub your skin without irritating it.

4- Face day cream from Marilou Bio (Marian).
I bought it at a local drugstore, *Arenal*, and I like it very much.
It moisturizes my skin without a greasy feeling, and it absorbs at once.
I wouldn't mind getting it again in the future.
Now I'm using a day cream from an Origins cracker that I'm also enjoying.



5- Vitamin C microdermabrasion face scrub from The Body Shop (Marian).
Another item that I had to discard as it had gone rancid. There wasn't much left anyway, but I couldn't use it up.
Since it had vitamin C, I had to use it in my night skincare routine when I knew for sure I wasn't going to get any sun exposure.
I won't repurchase for the time being.
At the moment I'm using a microdermabrasion gel that was part of the same Origins Christmas cracker I mentioned earlier.
