Receta/recipe: Patatas a la burgalesa - 'Burgos style' potatoes.

Hola, chicas:

*Patata, 1 kilo
*Diente de ajo, 1 unidad
*Chorizo, 100 gramos
*Huevo duro, 2 unidades
*Sal,  al gusto
*Aceite de oliva, 5 cucharadas
*Puerro (parte blanca), 250 gramos
*Tomate, 250 gramos
*Agua, 1 litro
*Perejil picado, 2 cucharadas

Hi girls,

Here I am with a new recipe.
A spoon dish, very appropriate for these cold days.
I took this recipe from cocinavino.com (in Spanish), but when I tried to copy the link to share it with you, the domain was on sale.

Well, let's start with the recipe.
I hope you like it.

Ingredients for 4.

*Potatoes, 1 kg.
*A garlic clove.
*Chorizo, 100 gr.
*2 boiled eggs.
*Salt, to taste.
*Olive oil, 5 tablespoons.
*Leek (just the white part), 250 gr.
*Tomatoes, 250 gr.
*Water, 1 litre.
*Chopped parsley, 2 tablespoons.
*Ground pepper, to taste.

Preparation.

First of all, wash, peel and cut the potatoes into pieces. Then peel and cut the garlic clove. Wash, peel and cut the tomatoes into small pieces. Cut the chorizo into slices.
Chop the boiled eggs.

Heat the olive oil in a saucepan, and stir fry the leek until they look golden. Then add the garlic and the tomatoes and cook until the juice from the tomatoes begins to evaporate.

Now put the potatoes in the saucepan and reheat them for 5 minutes. Then add in the chorizo, water, salt and pepper and cook on a low heat for 30 minutes.

Shortly  before taking the saucepan out of the stove, add the chopped boiled eggs, and sprinkle the chopped parsley before serving.

I assure you that this stew is delicious.
I reduced the ingredients by half and used my beloved WMF Perfect pressure cooker, so I made it in only 10 minutes, instead of 30.
I used acorn-fed Iberian chorizo, which probably helped to take this dish up a notch.
I encourage you to make it. You'll succeed.

See you soon!

Hi ladies,

In this second London Haul we'd like to share with you what we did on Day 6 of our stay. We spent the whole day shopping, so you're warned.

Our first stop was *Westfield Shopping Centre*. We got off at Sheperd's Bush underground station, but you could also stop at Sheperd's Bush Market.
The complex opens everyday from 10am to 10 pm.
Right after walking in we felt a bit away from our comfort zone, surrounded by so many 'posh' stores and looking like the average tourist. The first stores we saw when we got inside were Jimmy Choo, Versace, Omega watches, Gucci, Louis Vuitton... you get the idea.

We went to Marks&Spencer and bought two bamboo tea cups from their home goods aisle. They're exactly the same, but it was the design we liked best and was the one discounted. The other one available was a bit plain looking in just black and white.
We were familiar with bamboo cups, as we bought one for our dad in Stockholm at Indiska. One that our mum is keeping as decor as thought it was too nice to use. Lol.
We really like having tea, so this is a great addition to our cupboards.
The only downside is that these are NOT microwave safe, although you can pour hot liquids into it. And they are dishwasher safe.
The silicone protection is great to hold the cup without burning your hands. The cap has a slit to keep a straw in place, although you can use the slit to drink from it just like that.
Marox is using it a lot for her after-lunch tea.

A must-see store for us at the Westfield was The Body Shop. See below what we got.

-Moringa hand cream: The mere mention of the word 'moringa' draws us like a moth to a flame. It's worth splurging on, as we love the yummy scent.
Price: 4 pounds.

- Argan oil soap bar: It has 100 gr and cost 2 pounds. It will be a while until we get to use them, as have others awaiting their chance to be used.

-Satsuma orange soap bar: 100 gr as well and same price, 2 pounds.

- Glazed Apple Body Butter: Contains 200ml and cost 7 pounds. Marox splurged and got it at the TBS sales. She would have snatched the Frosted Plum if they'd had it, but sadly they didn't.
The Apple one is from the 2014 Holiday Limited Edition and the Plum is from their 2015 release.

We paid a total of 13 pounds, as they had a 3for2 deal with the soaps and hand cream. We got one of the soaps for free.

Needless to say, we sneaked into other shops like Inglot, but these are the only ones where we did a purchase.

We had lunch at the Westfield, at *EAT*, a healthy fast-food restaurant chain. We had a pot of fire-roasted peppers hot soup, our main dish was one of their Hot Pots with pulled pork and rice.

In the afternoon, Marox was really keen on going to *TK Maxx*, so we got on the underground and got off at High Street Kensington. There are 5 TK Maxx stores in London, but we chose that as it had a more convenient location.
They had a selection of designer clothing that was to die for, as well as some customary junk, with a drugstore aisle that was a bit gross-looking. The store resembles ECI Outlet stores, where savvy shoppers find some jewels among the clutter.

This is what we got.

-Animal print sleeveless Tee: (Marian): It's an XS, but the brand must have oversize clothing or something, because my usual T-shirt size is an M and this was a perfect fit. It was had been reduced from 19.99 pounds to just 15, but the original RRP was... US$145!!

- White sleeveless Tee with cotton lace-like insert (Marox).
From 12.99 pounds was discounted to just 9. Don't know the original RRP, but the fabric looked good quality, as the majority of the items on display.

-Silk scarf: This was a present for our mum, who loves scarves and specially silk ones.
We paid 12.99 pounds, no problem saying it here as she doesn't read the blog.

- Leather purse: Marox's one was in its final stages, despite being a recent purchase, so she jumped at the selection of purses until deciding on this.
What she liked most was that it had plenty of slits for cards. Price was 16.99 pounds and so far, so good.

- JVC ear buds headphones: These turned out to be good. We'll keep our fingers crossed. Marox uses them on her Ipad.
They cost 5.99 pounds.

Well, this is all we bought in London. Hope you enjoyed our Haul.
See you!

Today I'm back with another recipe, this time a local delicacy. Aceitadas are traditionally savoured in our hometown
, Zamora, during the Holy Week. Our Easter celebrations were declared in the early 1980s of International Tourist Interest, btw.
Traditional aceitadas are quite hard, i.e. you have to sink your teeth in them to eat them, round and ideally, should be more golden than ours turned out, but I'm afraid our oven knows no happy medium (the second batch was too dark, actually). They have a cross-shaped cut in the middle, but I didn't do it this time.

Ingredientes:
250 gr.

Ingredients:

250 g extra virgin olive oil (*We used a little less, 200 gr)
500 g all-purpose flour
200 g white sugar
1 egg yolk and 1 whole egg
1 tsp ground cinammon
1 orange peel
1 trickle of aniseed (We used 50 ml, filling half the transparent lid cover a.k.a. 'cubilete' as a measuring cup and the flavour was not too noticeable) .

1- Precalentar el horno a 170º grados.
1- Pre-heat your oven at 170 ºC.

2- Weigh in the oil and add the orange peel to the Thermomix bowl. Heat it for 10 min., Varoma, Speed 1.* We usually do this step before lunch so we can go on with the rest of the recipe right after lunch.

3- Wait until the oil cools down and remove the peel.

4- Add the sugar, the egg yolk, the whole egg, cinammon and aniseed and mix it all for 15 seconds, Speed 4.

5- Weigh in the flour and add to the bowl. Mix for 30 seconds, Speed 6 and use the spatula as an aid to mix the dough properly.

6- Pour out into a bowl and make meatball-sized balls with your hands, line your oven tray with a sheet of baking paper and place them an inch apart from one another. Paint the aceitadas with the egg white and add a pinch of sugar on top. Make a cross-shaped cut (we didn't this time, though traditionally they do have this cut) and bake for about 20 min. at about 180 ºC.

Here's a video of our Holy Week. Btw, one of my cousins is in the video, lol.

The recipe was sent to us by our Thermomix demonstrator, but the author is Susana Bravo.
