Parecidos razonables/Reasonable Lookalikes: Rouge Volupté Perle #106 de YSL/"Eggplant" de NYX.

Hola, chicas:

Hi, girls,

It's been quite a long since I featured any 'Reasonable Lookalikes', but I've recently found among my make-up products a similarity I'd like to share with you.

A bit more than a month ago, marox gave me the lipstick from YSL Rouge Volupté Perle #106. When I swatched it, I thought: I'll save this for when I dress up like a goth girl.

Then I thought I had told that before. Where? *Here*.
This leads us to the second product of the comparison.

Juzgad vosotras mismas.

In terms of the texture, YSL lipstick is more creamy than the NYX one, and you need more swipes to get the same colour payoff.
However, the coverage of the NYX is better with only one swipe, but without drying the lips.

I don't know if they could be regarded as dupes. Judge for yourselves.

Compras varias acumuladas / Collective sundry haul

Hola:

Hi,

Here we are again to show you some things we've purchased recently. They're things we had run out of, so we have to replace them. Though there also has been some whim.

1- Moisturizing face cream from Deliplus with aloe vera: To replace the antiwrinkle one from Deliplus we were using as a night cream. There is another version, a more expensive one and with a smaller amount of product that comes in a glass jar. We chose this one because we didn't find any differences in the ingredients, and has a bigger amount of cream. Price: €2. We are both using it and like it very much.

Precio: 1,25€.

2- Make-up remover wipes for sensitive skin from DIA: As we already told you on our latest post on 'Finito products', we had run out of those we were using. The packaging is a little bit different, but it's the same product: the same ingredients, amount and manufacturer... Price: €1.25.

3- Colonia Essence 'Like a First Day of Spring': ¿Dónde he podido comprar esta colonia?

3- Essence 'Like a First Day of Spring' Eau de Toilette: Where did I get this? Oh, yes, It had to be in the newly opened Bodybell drugstore & perfumery, the only one in town. They couldn't have a better debut, as they're bringing Essence, a brand that returns to my hometown Zamora after an absence of almost a decade. They only have their makeup display though, as well as the hand creams, MySkin line and the new perfume range out of which I chose the one you can see above. The store also features an OPI display with a larger stock than that available at IF or Marionnaud, as well as an Essie counter. I got their club card, because at least during the summer, I'll be a frequent visitor and admittledly will give in and get a few goodies.

4- Nail polishes from Catrice 'It's Rambo no.5' and 'Goldfinger' (Marian): I don't know why I always promise myself not to buy more polishes (I already have a lot of them), because everytime I go to Bustillo (local store) I fall into temptation. They were in the sales basket, and I think they wanted to come home with me, lol. They cost me €1.99 each.

5- Lipsticks 'Rose Baby' from Chanel and #141 from YSL (Marian): These have been my most recent purchase at the local street market. Both of them are in a pale pink shade, though the YSL one leans to lilac. The lipstick from Chanel has a frosty finish, while the YSL one is in a solid colour, without any sparkles or reflections, and it's very creamy. It reminds me of the round lipsticks from NYX (differences aside, of course). They cost me €8 each. One of them will be for marox.

Exfoliante corporal "Purity" de Obey Your Body: primeras impresiones - Exfoliating Body Scrub 'Purity' from Obey Your Body: first impressions.

Hi again,

It's been quite a while since my last review of products on the blog, but the truth is that I haven't tried that many lately.
The product I'm talking about today is the 'Purity' exfoliating body scrub from Obey Your Body, which we bought a couple of months ago, and showed you *here*.

It has all that I expect from a body scrub: particles are big enough to make a noticeable exfoliation, but are not aggresive to skin. It's so moisturizing as body oil (make sure your feet are well grounded on the floor of the bathtub, or you could slip). After rinsing with water, the skin still feels hydrated. It has a soft scent, not sickly at all.

I've just used this product for the first time, and you need such a small amount of product for each use that it will last a long time.
If you're wondering if I would repeat with this product, the answer is yes, but only if I found it at a lower price.

Házlo tú / DIY - Cabecero: de soso a fabuloso "por cuatro duros" / From drab to fab headboard without breaking the bank.

In previous DIY blogs from us, we've done small sewing or recycling projects and the like. However, today we have a somewhat bigger project, a small décor-DIY that required some minor restoration & revamping, which will soon be followed by a more complex, time-consuming project that will require some professional input.

Our parents have bought a new flat so they can be closer to Marian -who's the only one of us with a secure position and therefore has settled down somewhere. Some of our existing furniture will be taken to the new flat because of its value or because it fits the (smaller) space there.
Their current flat in our hometown will be probably rented out, but they can't leave the rooms stark naked so-to-speak, can they?
Some of the furniture that will remain here come from my sister's place, who's taken this chance to get better-quality furniture for her home...

Though there are several budget furniture stores out there, in our second visit to a local charity, a second-hand furniture store during our quest for a very special piece -the one I mentioned above-, we stumbled upon several headboards that we liked. We got three of them at the bargain price of... **drumroll**: €70/85 USD (the three of them, i.e. aprox. €23/28 USD each).
Read on to see what we did to one of them.

What did this makeover project entail?
1- First of all, we cleaned the headboard thoroughly with a damp cloth. It had a sizeable dent in the right side, though unfortunately I don't have photographic evidence of it as it was out of framing in my original picture. There were some smaller dents on the top of the piece, though nothing to worry about.
2- We filled the dent with some Aquaplast woodfiller (ours was in the shade 'Pine'). We let that dry overnight.
3- The next day, my mum mixed some acrylic paint (purchased at LIDL) to paint over the woodfiller and some other minor damage. She nailed the mix on her second try, lol. Talk about having an eye for colour!
4- Though drying time when working with acrylics is quick, better safe than sorry.

5 - At this point, we had to retort to our B-Plan for the decoration, as the flower motifs we tried to glue using the decóupage technique, were a mess: the white blended into the green background, the thin upper layer in the paper napkin tore and the end result was no good. In the end, we went for a different one from a sheet of decorative rice paper, purchased several years ago while on holiday at a craft store.

6 - Time to glue our decoration of choice, first by spreading a bit of glue in a few key points. Once positioned on the headboard, apply a thin coat of glue all over the motif with a crafts brush. Wait a couple of hours before moving onto the next step to be extra safe.
7 - The next day, my mother applied a coat of varnish (for paintings, as it was the one she had around) to protect the motifs and so that they go unnoticed to touch. A specific varnish for wood would work better.

8 - To give our headboard a touch of luxury, in line with the gilded flower motif we used, we rubbed on a bit of Goldfinger Metallic Paste, specially in the areas that stick out. It can be applied with your fingers or a soft cloth (we used our fingers and removed the excess straight away with a cloth or tissue paper). We used the shade in 'Sovereign Gold' Can be purchased for instance *here -UK / US*.
9 - The next step was buffing a bit of wax polish for wood (we used Alex in the shade Walnut, which was what we had) all over the headboard with a soft cloth. Truth be told, the wax removed a bit the goldfinger and varnish, so we touched up the former a bit.

So now we have a nice, cheap and fabulous-looking headboard that we customized with our very own hands.
I hope you like it.

Productos terminados / 'Finito' Products (VII)

Hello again!

Here we are again ready to share with you our thoughts on the products we've used up lately.

1- Walnut tree handcrafted soap: Ever since we tried solid soaps, we've sticked to them except for when going to the pool, for instance. We bought this at a stall in a local craft fair last year. It lathers quite well and does not have a noticeable scent to it.
This soap in particular is specially indicated for skin problems, such as psoriasis, atopic and seborrheic dermatitis, eczema or skin infections caused by fungi. It is nice, but we didn't really see any improvement.

2- Raspberry-scented cologne from Yves Rocher: It is part of the Plaisirs Nature range and costs around seven euros for 100ml. We prefer to use lighter perfumes in summer and fruity scents are usually our go-to products. This line is excluded from the store's frequent discounts and promotions, but they're not too pricey anyway.

3-Makeup Remover Wipes for sensitive skin from DIA (marox mainly): These are available in two versions, one for normal skin and sensitive skin, which are the ones I use. I've repurchased these several times and are quite nice as a first step in your skin cleansing ritual, removing the bulk of your makeup. I always team this with other products, either soaps or makeup remover lotions. I like these because they contain 30 wipes and the snap works great, effectively preventing the wipes from drying out. The new ones come in a slightly different package. Price: 1.25 EUR and are available from DIA Supermarkets. They're made in Israel and are dermathologically and opthamologically tested. They contain Vitamin E and Green Tea.

4- Yves Rocher 'Tradition de Hammam *UK/US*' Body Scrub: We've used up several of these and have repurchased them only if we could benefit from any of the company's frequent discounts and promotions. Otherwise, retail price is more than €20. The scrub particles are not too big but they're effective and the product nourishes the skin at the same time, thanks to the different oils it contains. Has been a long time favourite, but we'll be taking a break from it and use another we've halfway used up and the Obey Your Body we told you about in *this* blog. What are your favourite body scrubs? For marox, top of the list and a tough one to beat is the Aromatherapy one from Kiotis by Stanhome that you can see *here*.

5- Claire's Glass Nail File (marox): This was my first glass nail file. It's just as well I later tried the KIKO ones, because otherwise I'd have thought these files weren't worth the hype. The grain is fine, though unfortunately the wear is so quick you end up with useless patches throughout the file in no time. In terms of price, it was one of the cheapest ones available at the time, for 3.50 EUR. I bought another one of these and experienced exactly the same issue, so I definitely WON'T repurchase again. I remember seeing these glass files everywhere when we went to the Czech Republic for the summer holidays a few years ago. They were very inexpensive and they also had them in a pocket size. I later regretted not getting any of those instead.

¿Habéis probado alguno de estos productos? Si es así, ¿qué os parecen?

Have you tried any of these products? If so, what do you think about them?

I'm back with another recipe, at long last. A sweet one, this time. Let's see if I can find a savoury one to balance things out a little bit.

The recipe I'm sharing with you today is by no means new, since it's actually a staple in American cuisine.
It gained popularity in the 1930's with the widespread use of baking soda and baking powder.

Despite being so popular, we'd never tried this, but it came to my mind when my mother told me we had quite a few overripe bananas. It's so hot these days that fruit gets ripe in no time and one can't eat it soon enough.
There are many different recipes around, but I liked *this* as it seemed more balanced in its ingredients.
As usual, we've used our Thermomix food processor to make it, but since all you have to do is beat and mix the ingredients, you can absolutely prepare this by hand or using a simple blender.

Ingredientes:
85 gr de mantequilla a temperatura ambiente.
200 gr de azúcar moreno o blanco (yo puse 150 blanco + 50 moreno)
2 huevos
60 gr leche
240 gr harina
1 cucharadita de bicarbonato
1/2 cucharadita de sal
40-50 gr de nueces peladas

Ingredients:
85 gr butter, at room temperature.
200 gr brown or white sugar (I used 150 of white + 50 brown)
2 eggs
60 gr milk
300 gr of overripe bananas (from the Canaries variety; it was -believe it or not- the exact weight of our 5 bananas. As if on purpose, lol!)
240 gr all-purpose flour
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1/2 tsp salt
40-50 gr peeled walnuts

Preparation:
1- Pre-heat your oven to 170ºC.
2- Put the sugar, butter and eggs into the Thermomix bowl. Beat for 30s, on speed 3.
3- Add the milk and bananas. Mix 15s, Speed 4.
4- Add the flour, bicarbonate, salt and nuts and mix 10s, reverse speed position on dial, Speed 3.
5- Pour the batter into an oven-proof mold (we used a round silicone one) and bake for about 45 min. at 170ºC -baking time will depend on the oven, keep an eye on it- or when a skewer comes out clean from middle of the cake.

Marian didn't get to taste it -I did this at my parent's-, but she wrote down the recipe so she can do it some other time. Not difficult, considering bananas are her favourite fruit.

Note to our English-speaking readers, who are perhaps less familiar with Thermomix. Visit your country's site to see all this baby can do.
