UDLS/NOTW: Essence 'Mystic Lilac' (Wild Craft LE).

Espero que estéis pasando unas muy Felices Navidades. Estos días hemos estado muy ocupadas, así que hemos tenido el blog un poco abandonado. Pero ya se sabe que éstos son días para pasar con la familia, así que a disfrutar.

La que os voy a enseñar ahora es mi más reciente manicura, aunque ya la lucí hace un par de semanas.

Primero vais a ver a los protagonistas.

Apliqué una capa del gel de calcio de Basic, a continuación otra capa de este esmalte (un poquito gruesa, para que quede homogénea), y Seche Vite encima para terminar.

Me la retiré al cuarto día, porque el esmalte empezó a desconcharse.

Now I'm showing you my most recent mani, although I actually sported this about two weeks ago.

First of all, meet the 'artists'.

I applied a coat of the calcium gel from Basic, and then another coat of this polish (a thick coat, for a better colour payoff), and Seche Vite on top to finish.

 

I removed it the fourth day, because it began chipping.

I've left the description of the shade of this polish at the end of this post, because this colour is quite hard for me to describe.
It's not really lilac (at least, that's what I think). I think it's a mix between a taupe and a purple.

If you find another way to describe this shade, please let me know. Any ideas will be very welcome.

We'll take this opportunity to send you our best wishes for 2013. May it be even better than this one.

He dejado para el final el color del esmalte, porque me parece difícil de describir.
Está claro que lila, lila no es.
A mí me parece más bien una mezcla entre topo y morado.
¿Se os ocurre alguna otra forma de describir este color? Cualquier idea será bienvenida.

Libros / Books: "El sabor de las pepitas de manzana" de Katarina Hagena

Aqui estoy de nuevo con otra reseña literaria, para presentaros el último libro en español que he leído.
Al igual que otros que he leído recientemente, está publicado por la editorial Maeva. Podéis leer el primer capítulo *aquí*.

Animada por las buenas opiniones que encontré de esta novela de la alemana Katharina Hagena, lo cierto es que tenía ganas de leerlo y qué queréis que os diga: ni fú ni fá.

Resumen:

Tras la muerte de Bertha, sus tres hijas –Inga, Harriet y Christa– y su nieta Iris, se reencuentran para leer su testamento. Para sorpresa de todas, Iris es la heredera única de la casa y debe decidir en pocos días qué hacer con ella. Como primer paso, comienza por poner orden en las pertenencias de su abuela.

A medida que va redescubriendo las habitaciones y los rincones del maravilloso jardín que rodea a la casa, Iris reconstruye la historia, tierna y amarga como el sabor de las pepitas de manzana, de tres generaciones de mujeres: su abuela Bertha, que perdió la memoria tras caerse del manzano del jardín; su madre Christa, quien se trasladó al sur del país cuando se casó, manteniéndose alejada de su familia; su tía Inga, la más bella de las tres hermanas, fotógrafa de profesión, que se ha recorrido el mundo, y Harriet, la menor, a quien la muerte de una hija cambió para siempre. La historia no ha conseguido engancharme tanto como esperaba. En parte, me costaba horrores distinguir quién era quién. Ahora que leo el resumen que he puesto arriba, no parece que sea algo complicado, pero leyendo la historia me hacía un lío. No tenía claro de quién era hija la protagonista, ni su prima, etc. También me resultaba difícil empatizar con algunos personajes, como Rosmarie, que se supone que era poco menos que un dechado de virtudes y a mí me parecía una bruja.

Resumiendo, que me esperaba otra cosa. Si lo habéis leído o lo leéis, quizá a vosotras os guste más que a mí. No dudéis en dejarme vuestros comentarios al respecto.

Here I am back again to share with you my latest read in Spanish. The original novel is in German and the title is 'Der Geschmack von Apfelkernen'. In English, you'll find it with the title 'The Taste of Apple Seeds'.

Prompted by the positive reviews I found of this novel by German author Katharina Hagena, I was eager to get started with this one, but let me tell you I found it... well, a bit meh.

Excerpt:

Following the death of Bertha, her three daughters  - Inga, Harriet and Christa- as well as her granddaughter Iris, meet each other again for the reading of Bertha's will. To everybody's surprise, Iris is now the sole owner of her granny's house and has to reach a decision on what to do with the property. Her first move is putting her grandmother's personal belongings in order. 
Iris slowly rediscovers the rooms and every corner of her granny's delightful garden. She also puts together the story, both sweet and sour -as the taste of apple seeds- of three generations of women: Bertha, her granny, who lost her memory after taking a fall from the garden's apple tree; her mother Christa, who moved south when she married and kept away from the family; her aunt Inga, the prettiest of the three sisters and a professional photographer who's roamed the world for a living; and finally Harriet, the youngest, whose daughter's death changed her for ever. Iris discovers family secrets and seeks answers to yesterday's enigmas. Who were her aunts' great loves? What's the secret her eccentric granny kept? What really happened the night her cousin died in an accident?

I wasn't gripped by the story as much as I expected. In part, I took pains telling one character from the other. Now that I read the excerpt that I wrote above it does not seem such a feat, right? But my head was a mess, full of names and different stories I couldn't quite put together. I also found it difficult to warm to certain characters like Rosmarie, who is almost described as a living angel full of virtues when she seemed more of a witch to me. 

In short, I was expecting something else entirely of this book. If you've read it or do so in the future, you might feel otherwise. Do let me know in the comments. 

Productos Terminados / 'Finito' Products (XI).

Aqui os traemos de nuevo una pequeña reseña de los últimos productos que hemos terminado.


1- Body Spray "Azul de agua" de Deliplus:
Como sabréis, nos encanta usar este tipo de productos para dejar un suave olor en nuestra piel después de la ducha. Nos ha gustado mucho, y no descartamos probar otro en otro aroma.

2-  Esponja Konjac de Deliplus: después de unos cuantos meses usándola (creo que han sido más de tres), Marian (que ha sido la que más la ha usado) ha decidido desecharla. Según la respuesta de *esta* bloguera a su pregunta, todo indicaba que la vida útil de esta esponja había llegado a su final.

3- Champú ICA para caballos (uso veterinario): Sí, también nosotras sucumbimos a esa fiebre (*aquí*), aunque fue más bien por probar que por necesidad de tener más pelo. Marian tiene pelo para sí misma y hasta podría regalar algún mechoncillo a todas nuestras seguidoras sin quedarse calva. Además le crece rapidísimo, incluso desde antes de usar este champú, así que no ha notado nada especial en este sentido. Como única cosa a destacar, la sensación de "pelo limpio" era mayor con este champú que con otros. A Mar también le ha gustado mucho este champú por esto que os acabo de decir y sí que siente que le ha crecido con mayor rapidez.
¿Repetiremos? Pues tendremos que gastar otro champú que compramos y le regalamos a mi madre, y que después de unos cuantos debates en programas de televisión, le dio miedo seguir usando. ¿Y cuándo éste último se acabe? Muy probablemente no repitamos.
Como experiencia está bien, pero a cada uno lo suyo.

4- Champú "Gran Suave" de Bubbly/Bodyline: Con éste sí que no tenemos reparos. Seguiremos usándolo. De hecho, siempre tenemos alguno de repuesto.
Desde que usamos este tipo de champús sólidos, sólo usamos los líquidos cuando vamos a la piscina o de vacaciones.

5- Máscara de pestañas "Multi Action Smokey Eyes" de Essence (Marian): pues la verdad es que me ha gustado mucho. La compré después de ver una opinión muy favorable acerca de ella en YT, y no me ha decepcionado en absoluto. Realza las pestañas, no deja pegotes y dura bastante, a pesar de no ser resistente al agua (no me gustan las waterproof, porque luego no hay quien las quite, y parezco un mapache).

Bueno, esto ha sido todo por el momento.
Cada vez me gustan más estas entradas, porque significa que de todos los productos que compramos, terminamos algunos, jeje.

We're back with another mini-review featuring some of the products we're used up lately.


1- 'Azul de agua' body spray from Deliplus, available at Mercadona supermarkets: As you will know already, we love using this sort of products to leave our skin softly scented after a shower. We liked it very much and we don't rule out trying a different scent.

2- Konjac sponge from Deliplus (Mercadona supermarkets): after a few months of use - probably more than three- Marian, who used this the most, has decided to throw it away. According to *this* blogger's reply, there were some hints pointing out it the sponge's 'shelf life' had come to an end.



3- ICA horse shampoo (for veterinary use): Yes, we also jumped on that bandwagon (*here*), even if it was more like for the sake of trying it than because we needed it. Marian has enough her for herself and to give a few strands to our followers without going bald. Her hair grows really fast too, so she didn't notice anything special in that respect. She did get the feeling her hair was "cleaner" with this shampoo more than with others. Marox liked it very much for this reason as well. She did notice her hair growing faster.Will we repurchase? Well, we still have to use the one we bought for our mum, who after watching a few debates on TV about the topic, didn't dare use it again. And after using that second bottle up? We probably won't.
As an experiment, it wasn't bad, but to each its own. 

4- 'Big Softy' solid shampoo from Bubbly/Bodyline: We're entirely happy about this one. We'll keep on repurchasing it. In fact, we have some backups.
Ever since we started using solid shampoos, we only use traditional ones when we go to the pool or on holiday.

5- 'Multi Action Smokey Eyes' mascara from Essence (Marian): well, I actually liked this very much. I bought it after seeing a favourable review on YT and I have not been disappointed in the least. It enhances lashes, it doesn't leavy clumps and lasts a good while, despite not being waterproof (I don't like waterproof mascaras, because it's really hard to remove them, and I look like a racoon).


Well, this is all for now.
I like this kind of posts more and more, because it means that we really finish some of the products we buy, lol.

Perdonad que estemos un poco "ausentes" del blog, pero entre el trabajo y cierto jaleo familiar (nada malo, tranquilas), nos ha resultado imposible publicar más a menudo. Hoy me gustaría compartir con vosotros los últimos productos de cosmética coreana que hemos comprado.

1- Sérum de ácido hialurónico de Scinic: No hemos tenido ocasión de probarlo aún porque fue un encargo... de mi madre. Nos comentó preocupada que le estaban saliendo unas arruguillas a sus muy bien llevados setenta y pocos años y le dijimos que lo dejara en nuestras manos.
Nos decidimos por éste porque decían que era apropiado para pieles sensibles y alguna vez ha tenido alguna reacción alérgica al usar alguna crema.
Además de contener ácido hialurónico en muy alta concentración, contiene pantenol, aceites vegetales, sales del Mar Muerto, aloe vera, extractos de regaliz y manzanilla, además de un montón de vitaminas. Por el contrario, no contiene alcohol ni parabenos. Trae 30ml.
Se recomienda usar sobre la piel limpia, mañana y noche, aplicando dos gotas de producto con un pequeño masaje. Mi madre prefiere aplicar tres gotas y está muy contenta con el sérum. Además, está siendo constante (cosa rara en ella).

El vendedor fue newcre8tive, el precio fue de 20,99$. Le llegó bien protegido y tardó unos 10 días. Incluyó una muestra (foto).

2- Crema de protección solar facial SPF 50 de Innisfree: También para mi madre, aunque aún no la ha probado.
Tiene certificado ECOCERT, no contiene alcohol, ni colorantes artificiales, aceites minerales, etc. El nombre del vendedor es ehappyidea y pagué 19,99$. Mandó una muestra.

3- Mascarilla de noche Intense Care Dual Effect Sleeping Pack de Tony Moly: Bellogirl nos mandó una muestra de este producto y me gustó especialmente. Me pareció un producto original, a medio camino entre una crema de noche y una mascarilla. Podéis leer la reseña que escribimos con nuestras primeras impresiones sobre ella entonces *aquí*
El vendedor incluyó una mascarilla de papel de un solo uso, de la variedad 'Aroma'.

4- Serum para pestañas de Etude House: Mi estreno con la marca. No tengo unas pestañas demasiado pobladas y me apetecía probar un tratamiento que ayudara a su crecimiento, sin gastarme un pastizal, así que éste fue el elegido. Me gusta el formato, como una simple máscara de pestañas, que resulta más cómodo de aplicar que el único que había probado hasta ahora, la Abeñula. Comprado al vendedor bringbringshop por 6,85$ (= 5,23€ aprox.) No recibí ninguna muestra.

Forgive us for being somewhat 'MIA' from the blog but between work and a certain family issue (nothing bad, don't worry), it was completely impossible for us to post more often. Today I'd like to share with you the latest Asian cosmetics we've ordered.

1- Hyaluronic Acid serum from Scinic: We haven't had the chance to try this yet because it was a request... from our mum. She was all worried because she'd noticed some minor wrinkles in her youthful early-seventies skin, so we told her to leave it in our hands.
We chose this over others as it was suitable for sensitive skin and she's had allergic reactions to face creams in the past.
Besides containing a highly-rich hyaluronic acid contentrate, it contains panthenol, vegetable oils, Dead Sea salts, aloe vera, licorice and chamomile extracts and many vitamins. On the other hand, it is alcohol and paraben free. It contains 30ml.
Application should be done over clean skin, mornings and nights, using 1-2 pumps of product and then massaged into the skin. My mother prefers applying three and is very pleased with the product so far. She's also using this religiously (unlike she often does).

Seller was newcre8tive and price was $20.99. It came well protected and shipping took about 10 days. Seller included one sample (pictured),


2 - Face sunscreen with SPF 50 from Innisfree: Also for our mum, though she hasn't tried it yet.
Its ingredients are ECOCERT certified and it is alcohol, artificial colourings and mineral oils free, among others. Seller's name was ehappyidea and I paid 19.99 USD. One sample was included.

3 - Tony Moly Intense Care Dual Effect Sleeping Pack: Bellogirl included a sample of this product and I liked it very much. I thought the product was somewhat different, being neither a night cream nor a mask. You can read our review with our first impressions of it *here*.
Seller included a sheet mask of the 'Aroma' variety. 

4 - Etude House My Lash Serum: My first product from the brand. I don't have very thick lashes and felt like trying a product that promoted their growth without spending a fortune on it. I like the format, just like your everyday mascara, with is a lot more convenient and user-friendly than the only one I'd tried so far, the Abeñula. Seller name was bringbringshop and price was $6.85. No samples were included.

UDLS / NOTW: Nails Inc 471 'New Burlington Place'

¿Queréis ver otro de los esmaltes que *compré* en Dublín? Se trata de otro de los esmaltes que venían en el kit de Nails Inc que compré en TK Maxx, en el CC St. Stephen's Green de Dublín.

En las fotos, llevo una capa de la base de P2. Una vez seca, aplico dos capas de este esmalte. Se aplica bastante bien, aunque no tan espectacular como el anterior que probé de ese lote. El color queda como muy navideño. Remato con una capa del esmalte sellador de la BTGN de Essence.

No llevé la cuenta de cuánto me duró, como suelo hacer.

Want to see another of the polishes that I *bought* in Dublin? It belongs to the Nails Inc set that I purchased at TK Maxx, in St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre in Dublin.
In the pictures, I have a coat of the P2 base on. Once dry, two coats of this polish. Application was quite smooth, but not as breathtaking as with the other one I used. The colour screams Christmas to me. I topped this mani with one coat of the Essence BTGN top sealer.




I didn't keep an eye on how long this lasted on me, as I usually do.

De compras por Dublín / Dublin Shopping Guide (I): Boots

Perdonad que haya dejado un poco apartadas las entradas dedicadas al viaje, pero con el trabajo resulta complicado encontrar un rato para ponerme a escribir un post tranquilamente, como a mí me gusta.

En esta primera entrega, quiero presentaros (si es que no las conocéis aún), las droguerías Boots. Originarias del Reino Unido, aúnan en un mismo espacio servicios de droguería, perfumería y farmacia. Ofrece una tarjeta de fidelidad y suele tener ofertas 3x2 para todos los clientes.
Como primera impresión general, me gustó, aunque no es tan barata como el summum de las droguerías internacionales que hemos tenido el gusto de visitar: los DM alemanes.

Con menor presencia de marcas que en el Reino Unido, en la mayoría de tiendas la oferta de colorido incluye Barry M, 17 y No. 7 (marcas propias de Boots) y Models Own, además de otras con presencia internacional como Rimmel, Max Factor, L'Oreal o Revlon. En una de las tiendas que visitamos, tenían también un stand de Collection 2000, una marca a precios muy económicos de lo más interesante.

En cuanto a cuidado corporal, la marca más interesante es Soap & Glory, que os llamará la atención por su estética pin-up. Para cuidar nuestro cabello, tenemos marcas como John Frieda y muchas otras.

Las tiendas Boots son una buena opción también para aumentar vuestra colección de brochas, tanto con las que ofrece su marca No.7, como con las ecológicas Ecotools y las más recientes de Real Techniques de Samantha Chapman de Pixiwoo.

Forgive me for having neglected the travel-related posts, but with my work schedule finding the time to sit and write an entry is quite hard, especially the way I like it, the calm way.


In this first part of the series I'd like to introduce (if you don't know it already) Boots drugstores. Originally from the UK, they offer drugstore, perfumery and pharmacy items under the same roof.
They have a club card and usually have 3x2 offers in store for all customers.
My first impression was positive, though I quickly noticed it wasn't as budget-friendly as the epitome of European drugstores we've had the pleasure to visit so far, German DMs (Drogerie Markt).

The number of brands available in Irish Boots stores is smaller than in the UK. Most stores feature make-up brands like Barry M, 17 and No. 7 (Boots own brands) and Models Own, as well as famous household names like Rimmel, Max Factor, L'Oreal or Revlon. In one of the stores we checked out, they also had a Collection 2000 display, which is worth checking out for its budget-friendly prices and interesting products.
The offer in body care includes the famous Soap & Glory, known for its gorgeous pin-up packaging. In hair care, the offer includes John Frieda and many other products. 



Boots are a good place to expand your brush collection, both with those offered by their own brand No.7 and also with the eco-friendly Ecotools ones or the more recent Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman from Pixiwoo.
