Bizcocho de yogur y licor 43 - Yoghourt and liqueur '43' cake.

Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,
Definitely, I'm flowing uphill.
When everybody's thinking of losing the weight gained in Christmas, I come up with the brilliant idea of baking a cake, and not only that, I share the recipe with you so I'm not the only one putting on weight.

Once upon a time I had a bottle of Liqueur '43' forgotten somewhere in my house, that I had bought for my housewarming party (quite a long time ago).
So Marox, who knew this, was surprised to find a recipe including this ingredient when reading the updates in her blogroll. And she forwarded it to me. It's *this one*, though I've made some changes to it.

Besides, I've converted the amounts into grams (I hope I did it correctly), to make this recipe using my Thermomix, my beloved food processor. Although on second thoughts, I could have used the same measurements of the original recipe, where the yoghourt carton was used as a measuring cup.

Well, enough babbling.
Here is the recipe. I hope you like it (and that you don't put me on your blacklist).

Ingredients:

-1 yoghourt.
-2 yoghourt measuring cups of sugar. For the Thermomix, I calculated 250 gr.
-3 yoghourt measuring cups of baking flour. I calculated 375 gr., although finally I didn't use that much (only a bit less), because I run out of it.
-3 large size eggs.
-1/2 yoghourt measuring cups of sunflower seed oil. I put 60 gr.
-11 gr. of baking powder (1 sachet).
-5 full tablespoons of Liqueur 43 (or Cointreau or Grandmarnier).

Preparation (without food processor).

Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
Grease a 22 cm-diameter cake tin.
Pour the yoghourt into a bowl. Clean the carton and use it as a measuring cup.
Add the eggs to the bowl and beat in.
Then add the sugar, the flour and the baking powder and mix until combined. Add the oil and blend in. Finally, add the liqueur and mix.
Pour the mixture into your cake tin or silicone baking mold and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
Let it cool and unmold it over a grid.

Preparation with Thermomix.

Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
Grease a 22 cm diameter cake tin (I used a bundt cake silicone baking mold, and honestly, I don't know the diameter size).
Put the sugar and the eggs in the Thermomix bowl and set 2 minutes, 37ºC, speed 3.
Next, add in the oil, the yoghourt and the liqueur and blend for 15 seconds in speed 3.
After that, add the flour and the baking powder and set 15 seconds in speed 3.
Pour the mixture into the greased mold and bake at 180ºC for about 30 minutes.
Let it cool and unmold it over a grid.

My sponge cake came out quite dense. Maybe I used too much flour? I don't know. Anyway, it tasted great.

I encourage you (if you don't kill me first) to try this recipe. Let me know how yours turned out and whether you made any changes.

Drop us a line in the comments section below to tell us what you use those liqueurs you never drink for. I'm afraid I take after our mum in this. She would use the fancy Gran Duque de Alba and Torres 10 bottles my father got for Christmas from his boss waaay back... for the chicken gravy, rather than end up throwing them all away. When she told a friend who liked to drink those for a treat, the poor man couldn't believe his ears and told her that was tantamount to sacrilege.

Sweet greetings, lol.

EDIT:

I've baked this cake again, but changing the amount of some ingredients (mainly flour), because as I told you above, the cake came out quite dense.
Although I've used the Thermomix, I've used the yoghourt measuring cups mentioned in the 'Preparation without food processor' section.
This time the result has been perfect.

UDLS / NOTW: Catrice 'Heavy Metallilac' + Yes Love #N06

Hey, what's up?
Today we're back with another mani. I used two polishes I had already shown here, but I don't think I'd ever combined them in a mani. Anyway, I hope you like it all the same.

In the pictures, I'm sporting a mani with one coat of my Basic (Schlecker) basecoat that I discarded right after using it here. There was very little product left and it was hard to get it out with the brush.
I then applied a generous coat of the Catrice lacquer in all nails except for those on my ring fingers, where I applied two coats of the Yes Love nail polish.
And finally I applied a coat of the Essence Better than Gel Nails top sealer, which will be soon used up as well.

I wore this mani for three days until it started chipping after washing my hair. I took it off the following morning.

Productos terminados - 'Finito' products (#22).

Hola, chicas:

1- Polvos compactos Essence "All about matt" (Marox).

5- Hidratante efecto luminoso Deliplus (Marian).

Hi girls,
Here we are with a new review of the items we've used up recently.
Let's go.

1- Compact powder from Essence 'All about matt' (Marox).
I had read several reviews praising this product, but in its loose powder version. So, when I saw the compact powder, it definitely caught my attention and was the one I finally bought. I thought it would be more appropriate to carry with me when travelling, for example.
Unfortunately, I'd been using it for a very short time when one day it fell off my clumsy hands and broke into a thousand pieces.
Marian tried to press it back together with some rubbing alcohol, without success. It keeps cracking, so I decided to throw it away (with all the pain in my heart).

2- Almond oil from Deliplus (Marian).
I've used this mainly to make my homemade eye make-up remover I already showed you in in a DIY post here a long time ago.
But this is not the only use I've given it. It removes perfectly all the leftover wax residues after epilation.

3- Rose-petal scented 'Nectar of Nature' Body spray from Les Cosmetiques (Carrefour's own brand) (Marian).
As you surely know, we love body sprays to lightly scent our body after a shower.
We never repurchase the same scent, because we like to change.

4- Lipbalm from Biocura (Marian).
I bought it quite long ago, but I had it almost unused.
But since I rescued it from oblivion, I've been using it very often, to the point that I used it up in almost no time.
I think it's fine to keep your lips moisturized, and prevent them from getting dry as a result of the cold weather, heating, etc.
But in my opinion, this is not the most suitable balm for very dry or chapped lips.

5- 'Luminous Effect' Body butter from Deliplus (Marian).
I reckon this body butter is more suitable for the summer, because of the shimmer particles meant to highlight your tan, but I've been using it after summertime.
I like the effect it leaves on the skin. Both its scent and texture are very nice and it leaves your skin soft and moisturized.
Marox thought this one was a tad more difficult to spread than other similar products from the brand.

Well, this was all for now.
Have you ever used any of these? How did you like them?

Parecidos razonables - Reasonable lookalikes: Rimmel London 'Pearly Queen' vs. Astor 'Pearly Diadem'.

I'm sure you have been missing these kind of posts.
When we showed you these polishes 'in action', we promised to upload this post, as we saw that they were the same shade (or almost the same).

As you can see, they're the same shade in the bottle, so I could say thay they're exact dupes.
And on the wheel..., if anybody sees any difference, please let us know.

I don't know if each bottle contains the same amount as the other one. If not, the only difference between them is the price.
The polish from Astor is much cheaper (about €2) than the Rimmel London one (about €6).

To sum up, if I had seen the polish from Astor before, I wouldn't have bought the Rimmel London one, obviously.
Besides, I've been having a look at the Astor display, and they have polishes in very beautiful shades. It's hard to choose just one.

Mis regalos de Navidad - My Christmas presents (Marian).

Hola, chicas:

Todavía no la he estrenado.

Hi, ladies,
Marox has already shown you her Christmas presents, so now it's my turn.

Almost all my Christmas gifts were from Marox, and I ll show you those at the end of this post.

Let's start with the ones from my parents.

I've also been given money, as Marox, which is always a good thing and could be well spent  to treat oneself to a little something at the sales (or maybe not).

Let's go now with the rest of the gifts.

1- Wool gloves, from Santacana.
They're black (which is great as they'll match anything), made of leather on the outer part (with super cute polka dots), and warm wool on the inner side.
They're made in Spain (which is quite strange nowadays that almost everything comes from China).
They're special in the sense that you can use either your smartphone or any other touch screen with them on (tested).
They will be great to cope with the cold weather here in Burgos.

2- Sandwich/grill/waffle maker, from Silvercrest (sold at Lidl).
I wasn't expecting this gift, to be honest, but it seems my mother has read my mind, because she knows how much I like sandwiches for dinner.
So she knows that I'm going to make the most of this 3in1 kitchen tool that she gave me.
As for the waffle maker, I've already used it.
I looked up some waffle recipes on the net (well, actually Marox did) to make the batter with the Thermomix (though you can make it without it, obviously).
They're so yummy. I'll try to show you the next batch of waffles I make.

When I went to Yves Rocher to buy most of the things I gave for Christmas, I redeemed one of the coupons they had sent me by mail. I could thus benefit from their special offers and gifts, as it happened this time.

3- Make-up remover lotion.
Great idea, because I had run out of the make-up remover oil from Deliplus.
I've already tried it, and it really does what it claims. A small amount is enough to remove all the make-up. However, I always complete my cleansing routine by washing my face with soap, regardless of the product I'm using.

4- Face lotion.
After taking off my make-up and washing my face, I apply this product, which leaves my face moisturized. A small amount (the size of an almond) is enough, I then rub my hands and I apply it onto my skin.

These products come in a bottle of 200ml each. Considering they're gifts, it's more than OK.

And now I'm going to show you the things Marox gave me.

5- 'Collagen Moistfull' eye cream from Etude House.
Marox always plays it safe when buying gifts, and she knew that I needed one of these.
I have not used it yet. I have to remove the seal, and as I'm always in a hurry...

6- Mattifying compact powder, from Innisfree.
As I liked the compact powder from Essence that Marox bought for herself some time ago, she took a mental note and gave me this from Innisfree.
I haven't used it yet, because I'm using my loose powder, which I'm afraid will take me quite a long time to use up.
I did touch the sponge to apply them, and it's ultra soft.
Maybe I'll use it when travelling.

With these two things, 4 small samples were included. I haven't tried them yet. It's one of those things that are handy when travelling.

Let's continue with other face products.

7- Red wine and green clay face masks from Apivita.
Unlike the one Marox gave me for my birthday, which was a 'peel-off' mask and had to be prepared by adding water, these ones are ready to use.
Although the sachets are small, they contain enough product for more than a single use, as usual.
I haven't tried them yet, because I don't want to have many products 'opened'.
I'll do it when I'm done with what I'm using now.

And the gift that comes next really, really suits me.

8- Tangle-teezer-type brush from Buyincoins: To detangle hair easily. I haven't tried the original, so I cannot really say whether this is better or worse, though I suppose it will do the job. I'll let you know.

As if I didn't have enough brushes already...

9 - Smudge brush: It's no. 224, but not from MAC. It's another BIC (Buyincoins) brush. The bristles are very soft, which is all I can say about it as of today.

10- Make-up storage box, also from BIC: I don't know what I'll put in it yet, but surely something will come to my mind.

11- Cotton pad dispenser/storage box, from BIC: The top part comes with a lid to slide the pads in and an opening at the bottom to get them out.

This following item is not make-up related, but I'm showing it to you as well.

12- Paris 2014 calendar.
When we were in Paris, I thought of buying one of this kind of calendars with beautiful pics, but finally I forgot it. When I realized, we were on our flight back to home.
Marox caught the idea (as usual) and gave it to me for Christmas.

And this last present is sewing-related.

13 - Clothes labels: These are customized, per Marox's request with both a message and an image. She got them off Ebay and are designed to be folded in half, as a loop.
Have used them already. I put the first one on the E-reader bed pocket I made for marox this Xmas.

Well, that was all for now.
As you can see, both Santa and the Three Wise Men came laden with presents.
I must have been a good girl, I guess.
See you! Kisses!

Libros / Books: "La catedral del mar" de Ildefonso Falcones

¡Hola!

Hi!
Once again I'm here to bring you my latest book review for the blog.
Yes, believe it or not I might be one of the very few people who had still not read this book, despite the fact that it's been topping best selling lists for a few years now and the fact that it is one of those 'must reads' or by word of mouth suggested reads .

Excerpt:

XIV century. The city of Barcelona is at its most prosperous time; it has expanded to the Ribera, the humble neighbourhood where fishermen live. They set out to build the largest Christian temple ever built, Santa María de la Mar, by joining their funds and efforts.
The construction of the Cathedral runs paralel to the life of Arnau, a runaway serf seeking refuge in Barcelona, where he becomes a citizen and therefore, a free man.

Medieval Spain's caste system can't keep a good man down in this absorbing epic, a Spanish-language bestseller.
The life of Arnau Estanyol, son of a fugitive peasant, starts out in 14th-century Barcelona as a lowly porter who carries stone blocks to a cathedral construction site. He ends up a rich moneylender who saves the city from pillaging and frees the serfs of a barony he acquires by marriage.

Alas, his dizzying social assent and defiance of the feudal order provoke enraged aristocrats—his status-obsessed wife included—into siccing the Inquisition on him. The plot features thwarted romance, war, plague, loyalty and revenge, set in a Machiavellian world ruled by privilege, cronyism, religious intolerance and brute force. All these are not only combined to create a riveting novel, but also make Falcones's work a fascinating and ambitious portrait of medieval society.

I enjoyed this pseudo-historical novel very much, though at first I kept getting confused with some of the cultural references in the book, such as the figure of the 'veguer'. As the story went on, I was more and more engrossed in it.
I can't really tell you how many pages the book has, because I read this as an e-book in my Sony Reader.
In sum, a novel worth reading, if you haven't done already.
