Este año no nos hemos despedido para tomarnos un pequeño descanso, pero sí que nos hemos ido de vacaciones.
Este año no hemos ido en avión, porque ya van dos años seguidos en los que Marian ha tenido vértigos en el viaje de vuelta, unos 20 minutos antes de aterrizar, y lo pasó realmente mal.
En esta ocasión, el destino elegido ha sido Barcelona, ciudad que por desgracia está de triste actualidad. Yo sí que había estado en una o dos ocasiones, pero Marian no.
Y tiene tantas cosas bonitas para ver...
Día 1.
Llegamos en tren desde Burgos a la estación de Barcelona-Sants a eso de las 14.30.
Nada más salir de la estación, veíamos el hotel, así que no tardamos ni 5 minutos en llegar.
Como siempre solemos hacer, dedicaremos al hotel una entrada en exclusiva.
Nada más llegar, nos dimos una ducha que agradecimos tras 6 horas de viaje; suficiente para reponer fuerzas y aprovechar la tarde para ver la ciudad.
Nuestra primera salida resultó algo accidentada: los vagones de metro estaban a reventar, puesto que los lunes por lo visto hay huelga de metro. Las dos íbamos de pie y por desgracia, a un pasajero que llevaba un maletín mal cerrado con un instrumento, se le cayó... encima de mi pobre pie izquierdo. El mismo pie en el que tengo psoriasis ungueal.
Os dejo una foto de mi pobre pie unas horas antes del accidente y después. Bien pensé que se me había roto el pie, el dedo o qué sé yo y que comenzaría mis vacaciones con una visita a urgencias y con muletas.
Como en la canción de Luis Fonsi, al salir del metro, fuimos caminando despacito hasta las Ramblas, para recoger la tarjeta turística '*Barcelona Pass*' de tres días con transporte que activaríamos días después. La compré aprovechando un 10% de descuento, así que me ahorré algo de dinero. Aún así, las dos tarjetas fueron 272,20€.
Existe otra tarjeta turística, la Barcelona Card, pero es que los descuentos que ofrecía eran irrisorios, como de un euro en algunos casos.
El resto de la tarde lo pasamos dando un paseo tranquilamente por Las Ramblas, visitando el archiconocido 'Mercado de La Boquería', etc.
De regreso al hotel, cenamos una pizza en un restaurante cercano.
Y justo antes de volver al hotel, paramos en una farmacia en la zona comercial de la estación de Sants para comprar esparadrapo para que Marian me hiciera una sindactilia (una forma de inmovilizar el dedo afectado junto a otro sano).
Lo prometido es deuda: aquí os dejo la foto del antes y después de mi pobre dedo.
Es que no quería que fuera la primera.
Día 2.
Tras desayunar en el hotel, decidimos pasar el día haciendo alguna actividad gratuíta (o casi).
Nos dimos un paseo por la plaza del ayuntamiento y el Palau de la Generalitat (por fuera).
La siguiente visita fue a la Catedral de Barcelona, que recordaréis por la boda de la Infanta Cristina con Iñaki "Mangarín", jeje.
Aunque la visita se anunciaba como gratis, la entrada costaba 7 euros. Había algo de cola, así que si podéis adquirir la entrada con antelación quizá no tengáis que esperar.
Allí nuestro padre hubiera disfrutado de lo lindo, porque había muchos puestos con un montón de cámaras antiguas (fue fotógrafo profesional). Y cuando digo un montón, de verdad eran un montón, muchísimas.
Además de las cámaras, había muchas antigüedades, como monedas y cosas así.
Me recuerda un poco a esos anuncios que vemos en los periódicos, que dicen: "Compro todo lo que tenga en su trastero..."
Después, dando un paseo por el Barrio Gótico, llegamos al Mercado de Santa Caterina. Nos llamó la atención el techo de colores. Entramos y dimos una vuelta.
Quizá no es tan turístico como el mercado de la boquería.
Después, fuimos en metro hasta Poble Nou.
Nos tomamos algo, y quedamos con Didac para comer.
Por cierto, que comimos fenomenal, y muy bien de precio.
Tras la comida, dimos un paseo por la rambla de Poble Nou.
Vimos la Torre Agbar. Es una pena que un edificio como ese que habrá costado un pastizal esté vacío.
También vimos un edificio muy curioso, al que los locales llaman "la grapadora".
Es un edificio de oficinas, sin más, pero su forma llama la atención.
Aprovechando que teníamos el guía turístico gratis (Gracias, Didac), le preguntamos desde dónde se vería mejor el espectáculo de luz y sonido en las fuentes de Montjuic.
Esto lo teníamos planeado para otro día.
Así que subimos al mirador del *Centro Comercial Las Arenas*, ubicado en lo que era la plaza de toros.
Aviso importante: si no queréis tener que pagar por subir desde el ascensor que hay a pie de calle, os aconsejamos bajar las escaleras hacia el sótano, y entrar en el Centro Comercial.
Ahora, por las escaleras mecánicas o por el ascensor del Centro Comercial, podéis subir hasta el mirador sin pagar un euro.
Damos por finalizado el día, pues después de ver tantas cosas, estamos agotadas, así que nos despedimos de Didac.
Buscamos un sitio tranquilo para cenar, y de vuelta al hotel.
Para finalizar esta entrada, queremos dar nuestro más sincero apoyo a la hermosa ciudad de Barcelona.
Nos unimos al dolor de los familiares de las víctimas de Barcelona y Cambrils.
Y deseamos que los heridos se recuperen pronto. Un fortísimo abrazo.

This year we didn't even say we were talking a short break from blogging, we did go on holiday.
This year we did not travel by plane, as it's been two years in a row with Marian suffering from a bout of vertigo when landing, about 20 minutes prior to being safely on the ground and she had a really bad time.
This year our chosen destination was Barcelona, which is sadly newsworthy lately. I'd already been there twice, I believe ,but Marian had never been there.
And there are plenty of sights to enjoy...
Day 1.
We arrived by train at Barcelona-Sants station from Burgos at about 2.30 pm. Right after leaving the building, we saw our hotel, so getting there was not even a 5-minute walk.
As is the norm in this blog, you'll have a dedicated post about our chosen accommodation soon.
As soon as we were given a room, we took a shower that felt like a godsend after spending 6 hours travelling. It was just what we needed to get our strength back and make the most of the remainder of the day.
Our first outing was quite bumpy: the subway cars were completely packed with travellers, as apparently there's an underground strike every Monday. Both of us were standing and some passenger with a loosely closed instrument case dropped the thing... on my poor left foot. Yeah, the one with the nail psoriasis. Here's a pic of the before and after, so you can see what my poor toes looked like for a few days. I was convinced I'd injured it to the point there was something broken and I'd need a trip to A&E and crutches for the remainder of the holidays.
Like in the Luis Fonsi hit song, when we got off the underground, we slowly (Despacito) made our way to the Ramblas so we could collect our *'Barcelona Pass'* tourist cards. I got 2 cards for three days including travel during their 10% deal, so I could save a few euros. All in all, they were €272.20
We did not validate the cards yet, as we'd planned to do so a few days later.
There is another tourist card, the Barcelona Card, but the discounts it offered on attractions were of merely a meagre euro in some cases.
The rest of the evening was spent leisurely strolling the area, visiting the famous 'La Boquería' Market, taking pictures and enjoying the atmosphere.
Back in the hotel, we explored the surroundings in search of a restaurant and had pizza for dinner. And right before we called it a day, we did a stopover at Sants Station to get some surgical tape from the chemist's, so Marian could perform a syndactyly, that is, taping my injured toe to the next -uninjured- one.
As promised, here's a pic of my poor toe. I didn't want it to be the opening photo.
Day 2.
After having breakfast at the hotel, we decided to spend the day doing activities that were free or not too expensive.
The first thing we did was take a stroll around the City Hall Square and the Palau de la Generalitat (government seat of Catalonia).
We continued towards the Cathedral, that Spaniards will surely associate with the nuptials of HRH Infanta Cristina to the *infamous* Iñaki Urdangarín.
Although access was supposed to be free, we had to pay 7 EUR to get in there. Expect some queues, so consider getting the ticket in advance online.
After visiting the Cathedral, we stopped by the Gothic Market that happened to be held at the Cathedral Square.
Our dad would have surely had a nice time there, as many of the stalls had some photo equipment with lots of vintage cameras (and he used to make a living as a photographer). And when I say there were lots of them, I really mean it, they had many old cameras.
Besides cameras, there were plenty of antiques, such as old coins and the like.
It reminded me of those newspaper classifieds saying: 'I'll buy anything you have in your junk room'...
We then went for a stroll in the Gothic Quarter and continued to St. Catherine's Market. The colourful roof certainly caught our eye. We went in for a look and it was nice, though not as touristy as La Boquería Market.
Afterwards, we took the underground to Poble Nou, where we'd be meeting our friend Didac for lunch.
We had something cool to drink while we waited for him.
By the way, we had a superb lunch and it was really affordable, as we paid around EUR 11 each.
After lunch, we walked along the Poble Nou pedestrian mall. We then headed to the Torre Agbar, the formerly headquarters of Barcelona's water company that is sadly now siting empty. What a waste of money, isn't it?
There's an odd building nearby that locals have nicknamed 'the stapler' for good reason.
It's a regular office building with some striking architecture.
Since we had our own private tourist guide (Thanks!, Didac), we asked him what the best spot to see the fireworks display at Montjuic was. That was something we'd planed for some other day, so we just went up the lookout inside the Arenas shopping mall -formerly the bullfighting ring of Barcelona).
Incidentally, if you want to avoid having to fork out some euros just to get up the elevator right outside the arena, we strongly advise you to go down the stairs to the lowest level and get inside the shopping mall.
All you need to do now is use the escalators or take the lift that will take you all the way up to the lookout for free. You're welcome.
We called it a day after visiting so many lovely sights and said goodbye to our friend Didac. Knackered, we found a quiet place to have dinner and then returned to our hotel.
Before we finish this post, we want to send our support to everyone in Barcelona.
We share the grief of the families and friends of those killed or injured in the Barcelona and Cambrils terrorists attacks.
Hopefully those injured will make a swift recovery. We send you all our love.
