Propuesta Look Flamenco / Flamenco Makeup Proposal

¡Hola!

¡Ha llegado ese momento tan temido del año! No, no me refiero a la visita a Hacienda, que también se las trae, sino en nuestro caso, la actuación de fin de curso con las compañeras de la academia donde vamos a clases de flamenco. Este año nos tranquiliza saber que el baile lo llevamos mucho mejor preparado que el del año pasado. Como novedad, Marian y yo, por imposibilidad de horarios, estamos juntas en la misma clase y bailaremos el mismo baile, unos tangos flamencos. Y como para bailar Sevillanas había poca gente - y al ser de iniciación algunos pasos los llevan aprendidos un poco con pinzas - pues también bailaremos unas Sevillanas con ellas para darles un poco de apoyo moral.

It's that dreaded time of the year again! No, I'm not talking about the visit to the IRS / Inland Revenue, which are scary in their own right, but in our case, the end-of-course dance performance with the dance and music school where we take our flamenco lessons. The fact that this year's number's been more practised and better prepared than last year's is a huge relief. What's new about this year is that Marian and I, due to incompatibility with our respective work timetables have been together in the same group and will therefore do the same number, a flamenco Tango. And as there were only a few people for the Sevillanas, we will be also dancing with the beginners' group to give them much needed moral support, as they're still a bit green in some moves.

Una parte muy importante ese día y que nos gusta pensar de antemano es el maquillaje. En nuestro caso, hemos intentado que nuestro maquillaje se adapte lo más posible a los dos vestuarios que luciremos ese día. Aprovechando que hoy es fiesta aquí (y que Marian hoy no trabaja), hemos pasado la mañana poniendo en práctica algunas ideas que teníamos en la cabeza.
Os dejamos con unas fotos del vestuario que llevaremos cada una para las sevillanas y del común para los Tangos, así como los looks que hemos pensado, para que nos deis vuestra opinión. Si habéis visto en Internet algún look que nos pueda valer, será bienvenido también.

An important aspect to consider that day is makeup, and it is something we like to plan ahead. In our case, we tried to achieve a look that adapted well to the two different dance outfits we will be wearing then. Since it 's a local bank holiday today (and Marian doesn't have to work today), we spent the morning putting some ideas into practise makeupwise.

Here are some pics of the outfits we will each wear for the Sevillanas and the shared outfit for the Tangos, as well as the looks we've devised, in the hope that you can give us your opinion. If you've seen any makeup on the Internet that could work for us, do send us the link.

Empecemos con el vestuario que ambas tenemos en común.
La falda es negra y el volante es con fondo blanco y lunares en negro, rojo y coral. Llevaremos también una camiseta negra y un fleco blanco cosido en el escote, pero no hemos hecho foto de esto último.

 

This is what the skirt we will both be wearing for the Tangos looks like. It's black and the ruffles have black, red and coral-red polka dots on a white background. On top (but not pictured), a black tank top with white sewed-on fringes. 

Ahora que habéis visto cómo es la falda que vamos a llevar, vamos con el maquillaje de ojos.

And now that you've seen the skirt, let's move on to the eyes.

Marox ha usado la sombra "Go all Girlie" de Essence (en color salmón casi mate), mezclada con el pigmento de Bourjois "Rose d'Or", que es rosa claro con brillitos dorados, aplicada en el párpado móvil.

Después ha usado un poquito del pigmento rosa fucsia de Basic (no recuerdo si tenía nombre) en el tercio externo del párpado móvil, difuminando un poco hacia el interior. También ha usado este pigmento difuminado, en la cuenca.

Después ha utilizado la sombra negra de la paleta de Essence "I love Berlin" para marcar la V externa, y difuminar un poquito en la cuenca. También ha utilizado la sombra color vainilla de la misma paleta para iluminar el hueso de la ceja.

El delineado está hecho con el kajal automático de P2, negro negrísimo, que también ha utilizado para delinear la línea de agua tanto superior como inferior, además de la línea superior de pestañas.

Como máscara de pestañas, ha utilizado la "Multi Action Smoky Eyes" de Essence.

Marox used the Essence e/s in 'Go all Girlie' - an almost matt salmon shade - used mixed with the Bourjois loose powder in 'Rose d'Or', which is a light pink with golden shimmer, applied on the eyelid.

She then used a bit of the fuchsia loose powder from Basic (don't remember if it had a name) in the outer corner of the eyelid, blending it a little into the inner part. She also used it blended in the crease.

She continued by adding the black e/s in the Essence 'I love Berlin' LE palette to the outer V and lightly blend the crease. The vanilla e/s in the same palette was used to highlight the browbone.

She lined her eye with the P2 automatic kajal, which is as black as you can get. She used it on the upper and lower waterline, as well as on the upper lashline.

The mascara she's wearing is the Essence 'Multi Action Smoky Eyes'.

Para los labios, ha utilizado mezclados el labial líquido "Tainted" de L'Oréal HIP y el "Perfect Red" de NYX (megashine lipgloss). La verdad es que esta mezcla ha quedado bien.

Este maquillaje lo usará para los dos tipos de vestuario que va a llevar.

Este es el traje de flamenca que llevará, que por cierto, lo hizo nuestra señora madre. Ella sí que es una manitas.

For the lips, marox mixed the liquid lipstick in 'Tainted' from L'Oréal HiP and 'Perfect Red' from the NYX Megashine lipglosses. The truth is the combo looked well.

This is the makeup she'll use for both outfits.

And this is the flamenca dress she'll wear, which incidentally, was made by our dear mum. She is really a jack of all trades.

 

 

Ahora vamos con el maquillaje de Marian. 

Como el color de los trajes que llevará es bastante diferente, partirá de un "maquillaje base" en tonos grises, sobre el que superponer el otro. 

Bueno, hablemos de este primer maquillaje. En el párpado móvil ha utilizado una sombra en un gris claro, con efecto metalizado. Para marcar la V externa y también para difuminar en la cuenca, ha usado la sombra negra de la paleta de Essence "I love Berlin". Para iluminar el arco de la ceja, la sombra vainilla de esta misma paleta. Para el delineado, también he utilizado el kajal automático negro de P2, y la misma máscara de pestañas que marox.

And now let's see what Marian's makeup looks like.

As the colour of her two outfits is quite different, she'll start off with a 'basic makeup' in grey tones which she will build up for the second dance.

This is the first makeup. In the eyelid, she applied a light grey e/s with a metallic effect. On the outer V and also blended in the crease, she used the black shadow in the 'I love Berlin' LE palette. To highlight the browbone, she used the vanilla shade in the said palette. The product used to line her eyes was also the automatic kajal in black from P2, and the same mascara as marox.

Para los labios, he utilizado el megashine lipgloss de NYX en el tono "Burgundy".

For the lips, I used the NYX megashine lipgloss in 'Burgundy'.

Este es el segundo traje que voy a llevar. He hecho lo que he podido con la edición, pero los colores no se ven como realmente son. El vestido es morado, y los lunares son de color verde manzana, así que el maquillaje anterior no "pega" demasiado, y como entre bambalinas hay que ir rapidito, voy a superponer el segundo maquillaje al primero. Eso es lo que he hecho en esta prueba.

And this is the second outfit for the event. I did my best with my photo editing software, but the colours are not as accurate as I'd want them to be. The dress is purple and the polka dots are in an apple green shade, so the previous makeup did not quite match this. Since time backstage really flies, I'm going to adjust it very quickly by adding some colours on top. It's what I did in this makeup trial.

En el párpado móvil, sobre el color gris claro que puse anteriormente, he utilizado una  mezcla entre la sombra "Lime Time" de Essence (un verde manzana mate) y la "Jazzed Up", también de Essence, en el mismo color, pero con efecto holográfico, y es que me apetecía añadir un poco de "emoción".

En la cuenca, aplico un poco de una sombra morada de un cuarteto de Chanel (cuyo nombre ya no recuerdo, venía en un cuarteto antiguo) con un pincel de difuminar. 

Yo creo que ahora este maquillaje sí que conjunta bien con el vestuario, ¿no os parece?

For the eyelid and over the grey shade previously applied, I used a mixture of the Essence shadows in 'Lime Time' -which is a matt apple green shade- and 'Jazzed Up', in the same colour but with a holographic effect, because I wanted to spice it up a bit.

In the crease, I added a bit of a purple Chanel e/s (no idea of the name, it was part of an old quad) with a blending brush.

I think this makeup is now a better match for the second outfit, don't you think?

 

Ahora que ya tenemos más o menos decidido el maquillaje que llevaremos, sólo nos queda aprovechar a tope los últimos ensayos para que en la actuación nos aplaudan, y no nos tiren tomates.

And now that we've more or less made up our minds about our makeup, all we have to do is make the most of the last rehearsals, so that the audience gives us a round of applause rather than shower us with tomatoes.

Posible look flamenco / Flamenco make-up proposal

Si nos seguís, ya sabéis que dentro de unos días la academia donde vamos a clase de flamenco hará un pequeño festival de fin de curso. Para evitar los nervios de última hora y el consabido: '¿Y cómo me pinto? os traigo uno de los maquillajes que he estado ensayando esta semana.
Gadirroja que es un cielo me propuso adaptar varios de los looks que ella ha hecho en su blog que pegaban con el vestuario que tengo que llevar y el que véis fue el primero que hice y el que más me ha gustado.

If you've been following us for some time, you'll probably know that the place we have our flamenco dance lessons will have a small end-of-course festival. In order to avoid last-minute nerves and lack of inspiration, here's a look I tried this week.
Gadirroja kindly suggested adapting several looks she'd done for her blog that matched the dance outfit I have to wear. The one you see is the first one I did and the one I liked the most.




Es un ahumado en azul, pero suavizado con un poco de rosa cerca del lagrimal. He usado dos sombras de Essence mate que hemos comprado esta semana y que aún no os hemos enseñado. En la V externa, usé la sombra Morocco de Nyx, que aunque no es mate, no tiene mucho brillo. Al tratarse de un maquillaje para escenario, prefiero usar tonos que tengan poco o ningún brillo, ya que aunque te pongas cuatro toneladas de maquillaje los focos se lo comen todo y la purpurina se da de tortas también con las luces.
Para el delineado, le tomé prestado a mi hermana su delineador de Alverde -que no está nada mal, pero al que me ha costado un poco cogerle el truco. La textura es distinta de la del de Essence, al que estoy más acostumbrada.
Gadirroja me propuso unos labios en tonos rosas o bien más suaves o bien más atrevidos. Como ves, he optado por lo segundo, por lo que comento antes: las luces se comen el maquillaje. Es de la marca Kiotis de Stanhome y también es de mi hermana. Lo definiría como un rojo frambuesa, pero no os fiéis mucho de mis descripciones de colores. Mi madre es la artista de la familia, no yo.






It's a smokey eye using blue shades, though I toned it down with some pink near the tear duct. I used two Essence matte eyeshadows we bought this week but haven't got round to show you yet. For the outer V, I used the NYX eyeshadow in 'Morocco' -it's not matte, but not too shimmery either. Since this is a stage make-up I wanted to keep the eyes as matte as possible, because the stage lights will literally eat any makeup you've put on and glitter/shimmer is also your worst enemy.
I lined my eyes using the black gel liner from Alverde -I borrowed this from my sis. It's not bad, but it took me a while to get used to the texture (as opposed to the Essence one I've been using lately).
Gadirroja suggested going for pink lips, either a pale pink or something bolder -which is what I used, for the same reasons I explained above. It's from Kiotis by Stanhome and is also from my sister. I'd say it's a raspberry red if asked, but again, don't trust my colour descriptions too much. My mum is the artist in the family, not me.

Y esta es la falda con la que voy a bailar. Es de una compañera del año pasado y me quedaba larguíiiisima (mido 1.68, pero o esta chica era jugadora de baloncesto o la llevaba en plan 'Cachuli'). Mi madre me la ha tenido que arreglar para que no me mate con ella, pero como la tela pesa un montón se va escurriendo hacia abajo, así que la sujetaré con unos imperdibles para no tropezarme con ella y acabar cuerpo a tierra, lo cual no sería nada glamuroso, jeje.




And this is the skirt I have to dance with. It's from a girl from last year's group and was soooo long for me (I'm 5'6''/ 1.68 cm, but either this girl was a basketball player or wore it under her armpits, granpa style.) My mother had to adjust it for me, but it has so much fabric it ends up slipping through my waist, so I'll fix it with some safety pins to be extra safe. I don't want it to get in my way and end up in a rather unelegant heap on the floor - ;)

En cuanto al baile en sí, mi grupo haremos unos caracoles con abanico de Enrique Morente (el 'Cómo reluce' que no sabéis lo complicado que es seguir el compás, porque este hombre que en paz descanse no marca los acentos con la letra). Hemos estado ensayando un montón últimamente, pero aún así, puede salir o decente o "pá los leones" en palabras de mi profe: es decir, fuera de tiempo todo el rato, cada una a su aire, que alguien se olvide de algún paso y nos quedemos petrificadas -con alguna escojonándose de la risa... ha pasado. He bailado en público ya varios años, pero con mi otra profesora teníamos los bailes (el año pasado creo que bailé seis distintos) requetemachacados desde meses antes y los podíamos hacer con los ojos cerrados. En cambio, este año hemos acabado de montar la coreografía hace un mes. Por cierto, mis ex-compis actúan hoy.

As for the dance itself, my group is doing one of the styles or 'palos' called caracoles -with fan, to make it more complicated, lol- by the late Enrique Morente (to the song 'Como reluce', which is very complicated to keep track of the compás, because this man didn't stress the beat with his lyrics, as most singers do). We've been rehearsing a lot lately, but even so it can either turn out passable or a disaster 'straight for the lions', quoting my instructor (think the Roman circus). Disaster as in all of us out of time all the time, with no coordination in our movements as a group, with one of us forgetting a combination and all of us frozen on the spot while others burst into giggles -believe me, it HAS happened. I've been dancing in front of an audience for a couple of years, but with my previous instructor we had learnt the steps by heart with months in advance and could dance all our numbers (I think I had like six different ones last year) with our eyes closed. This year, we finished putting together the choreography last month. Btw, my former dancemates are performing tonight.

Un día en Madrid - One day in Madrid

Como ya os habíamos comentado, ayer viernes fuimos a Madrid. El motivo principal del viaje era comprar unos zapatos de flamenco para jubilar los que ya tenemos, que aparte de ser muy básicos (léase 'mierdosos') estaban ya muy deteriorados. Haremos una entrada específica para enseñároslos con más detalle y aunque aún no los hemos 'estrenado', sí que estamos muy contentas con nuestra compra.

As we'd already mentioned, we went to Madrid yesterday. The main purpose of the trip was to buy a pair of flamenco dance shoes to retire the ones we have, which apart from being pretty basic (read 'crappy') were really worn out. We'll write a specific blog entry to show them in detail, and although we haven't used them properly yet, we are very satisfied with our purchase.

Teníamos previsto visitar unas cuatro tiendas de flamenco, que habíamos clasificado por 'orden de prioridad' aunque al final sólo visitamos la primera de ellas.
Para aprovechar el día al máximo y que nos diera tiempo, salimos de aquí a las 7.30 de la mañana y reservamos el autobús de vuelta a las 21.00. La reserva y la compra de los billetes la hicimos por Internet, sin pasar por la estación de autobuses en ningún momento. ¡Si nuestros abuelos levantaran la cabeza! El pago, por Paypal, sin ningún problema. Ya os contaremos el único *problema* del viaje.

We had planned on visiting four different flamenco stores, sorted out in 'order of priority' though we ended up going to just one.

In order to make the most of our day and have enough time for everything, we left home at 7.30am and booked our return ticket for the 21.00pm bus. We booked our seats and paid them online, without having to go to the Bus Station. If our grandparents could see it!! Payment is made via Paypal, so no problem there. There WAS a problem on the trip, but we'll get there later.

Puesto que la compra de los zapatos nos llevó menos de lo que habíamos pensado, decidimos pasar a la siguiente etapa del viaje: el potitour, jeje. Así que intentamos probar suerte en Sephora, ya que en el de aquí hace dos meses que tenemos encargada la sombra 'Label Whore' de Too Faced y "ni está ni se la espera". En Madrid no tuvimos mejor suerte: probamos primero en el Sephora de la Puerta del Sol, de allí nos mandaron al córner de El Corte Inglés de Callao -que nos costó encontrarlo un triunfo, con todas las entradas que tiene el de Sol- y finalmente terminamos nuestro periplo en el de Gran Vía. Infructuoso, ya que la dependienta de Callao nos dijo que tenían una 'rotura de stock' con ese producto. Vamos, que toca seguir esperando o conformarse con algún clon.
Pero no salimos de la Gran Vía con las manos vacías: justo al lado había un gran H&M.... con sección de cosméticos. Ya os enseñaremos nuestros primeros productos de esta marca. Mientras tanto, os dejamos una foto "spy cam" del stand de Mavala del Corte Inglés de Sol.

Since the purchase of the shoes took less than expected, we moved on to 'Operation: Make-up haul', hehe. So we decided to try our luck at Sephora, because we ordered the 'Label Whore' e/s from Too Faced at our local Sephora two months ago and there's still no sign of it and no ETA whatsoever. We didn't get lucky in Madrid either: we started off at the Sephora on Puerta del Sol, from there we were sent to the Corte Inglés at Callao -we took pains to find it, with so many entry gates the store at Sol has- and ended up our pilgrimage at the Sephora on Gran Vía. Fruitless visit again, since the girl at the Too Faced counter on Callao told us they had a 'stockout' on this product. Anyway, that means all we can do is wait or settle for some dupe.

We didn't leave Gran Vía empty-handed: there was a big H&M right beside it.... with a cosmetics counter. We'll show you our first products from this brand. Meanwhile, there's another 'spy-cam' picture for you, from the Mavala display at the Corte Inglés on Sol.

Como ya eran poco más de las 14.00, nuestro estómago reclamaba nuestra atención. Afortunadamente, oímos a una señora recomendar un sitio donde se comía muy bien al módico precio de 8.95€, así que afinamos el oído y acabamos en uno de los restaurantes -el de la calle Caballero de Gracia- de tipo Buffet de la cadena Fresc Co. Efectivamente comimos bastante bien (quizá las opciones de segundos platos eran algo limitadas, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta la alergia de Marian a las setas y champiñones).

As it was 14.00 already, and our stomach was starting to make itself noticed. Luckily we overheard a lady recommending a place where you could eat well for a very reasonable €8.95, so we tuned up our hearing and ended up at one of those Buffet restaurants, one of the Fresc Co's at Caballero de Gracia St. We had a hearty meal (though the main course choices were somewhat limited, especially considering my sister's allergy to any kind of mushroom).

Para "bajar" la comida, nos fuimos hasta el CC Príncipe Pío andando. Fuera del recinto había unos puestecillos y compramos unos jabones en uno de ellos. Ya habíamos probado algunos de esta marca y como nos gustaron mucho, repetimos. Luego, nos dimos una vuelta por todo el centro comercial e hicimos algunas compritas en Kiko. Así "matamos el tiempo" hasta que llegó Salander, con quien habíamos quedado.
No quisimos entrar en Primor antes de que ella llegara y por desgracia, fue toda una decepción: ¡Horror! sólo tenían un mueble de maquillaje de Essence, el antiguo y que estaban reponiendo. Había un minúsculo stand de Sinful Colors y los tonos eran bastante clásicos (léase 'sosos').
Afortunadamente Salander propuso una visita a Claire's y todas salimos con 'algo', un 'algo' muy especial y que ya os enseñaremos.
Hicimos nuestra segunda visita a Kiko, donde yo volví a caer en la tentación para superar el trauma de ese stand de Essence desangelado de Primor. ¡Lástima que no hiciéramos caso de la recomendación que nos habían hecho del Juteco de Avda. de América, donde llegaba nuestro autobús! '¡Pá matarnos!
La verdad es que también dimos por supuesto que veríamos un montón de Jutecos y Bodybelles por Madrid y nada más lejos, no vimos ni uno. Suponemos que "haberlos, habráilos, pero no fuimos capaces de encontraílos". Señores de la concejalía de Turismo de Madrid: ¿para cuándo unos planos turísticos con los puntos de interés para potingueras? Mal, muy mal.

In order to 'walk the meal down', we went to the Príncipe Pío Mall on foot. There were a few market stalls outside and got a couple of soaps from one of them. We had tried some of them before and they were so good we got some more. Then we went around and bought a few things at Kiko, basically to kill the time before meeting Salander, who kindly suggested meeting.

We didn't want to get inside the Primor drugstore/perfumerie before meeting her and unfortunately, the place was a total disappointment: It was awful!! They only had the make-up display, the old one! and they were re-stocking it. They had a tiny Sinful Colors nail polish display, and the shades were pretty classic (read 'boring').

Thankfully Salander suggested checking out Claire's and the three of us got a little 'something', a very special little 'something' you'll have to wait a bit to see.

We paid a second visit to Kiko, where I fell into temptation to basically cure myself of the traumatic vision of that lacking Essence display at Primor. Pity we didn't listen to the recommendation and didn't go to the Juteco store on Avda. de América, right across our Bus Station! Girls, feel free to slap us!!

The truth is we wrongly assumed there would be lots of Juteco's and Bodybell's in Madrid and it was quite the contrary, we didn't see a single one!. I know there are plenty of them in Madrid and that it was just a question of knowing where they were. Message to the folks at the Department of Tourism of Madrid: why not publishing tourist maps with the points of interest for 'makeupholics'? What are you waiting for?? Bad done!.



Como las poticompras cansan mucho, nos tomamos un "postre", como dice Salander: un delicioso "Moccaccino" en Starbucks, eso sí, descafeínado, para no pasarnos la noche con los ojos abiertos como platos y contando ovejas *o esmaltes, ;) *. No fue el caso, dormimos como dos bebés, cansadas tras un día intenso y un regreso "a paso burra", desde Lerma, a 40 km de Burgos, hasta Valdorros, a unos 7-8 km de Burgos. Para recorrer uno de los tramos de obras, de 7 km, tardamos media hora, y el retraso total fue de hora y media. Nunca hemos sido capaces de dormir en un autobús, pero os puedo asegurar que ayer se nos caía la cabeza de sueño. En dos palabras: ¡Un horror!.

Make-up hauls are an exhausting experience, so we had a 'dessert', as Salander puts it: a yummy 'Moccaccino' from Starbucks, a decaf, though, because we didn't want to spend the night with our eyes wide open staring at the ceiling and counting sheep *or nail polishes, ;) *. It wasn't the case, we slept like babies, worn out after a very busy day and a return trip 'at a snail/donkey's pace', from Lerma, 40 km from Burgos, to Valdorros, about 7-8 kms from Burgos. It took us half an hour to cover one of the stretches undergoing works, a 7km-long stretch, and the total delay was one and a half hours. We've never been able to sleep on a bus, but yesterday we couldn't help nodding off. In short: It was horrible!

Pasamos un gran día, en el que a pesar de las previsiones de la AEMET no cayó ni una gota -¡Gracias por hacernos ir cargadas con el paraguas, anorak con capucha... 95% de probabilidad de lluvia... me da a mí que si llamamos a la línea del Tarot acierta más!
Dispuestas a repetir la experiencia, eso sí, ¡cuando hayan acabado las obras de la A-1!.

We had a great time and despite the AEMET weather forecast it didn't rain, not even a single raindrop. Thanks for making us go laden with an umbrella, an anorak with a hoodie... 95% of chances of rainfall... A Tarot fortune-teller might have given us a more accurate forecast!!

We'd love to repeat the experience, mind you, when the construction works at the A-1 highway are finished!
