Descubriendo Ikea - Discovering Ikea

A finales del año pasado, abrió sus puertas la que hasta el momento es la última tienda Ikea en España, concretamente en Arroyo de la Encomienda, en Valladolid.

Late last year, the latest Ikea furniture store in Spain opened its doors, in Arroyo de la Encomienda (Valladolid), to be exact.




La verdad es que teníamos muchas ganas de ir a Ikea, si bien no estábamos seguras de si nos iba a gustar o no. Lo que quiero decir es que hasta ahora, cuando pensábamos en Ikea, nos venían a la cabeza, por ejemplo, los sofás de líneas minimalistas, duros como los pies de San Pedro, o también los simplones muebles que solemos ver en los típicos pisos que se alquilan a estudiantes. No sé si me explico.

The truth is we were very eager to visit Ikea, though we did not know whether we'd like it or not. What I mean is that until now, every time we thought about Ikea we were reminded of those minimalistic, rock-hard sofas, that are a common feature in bedsits, you know.

Pues bien, nada más lejos de la realidad. Aparte de muebles sencillos, Ikea es mucho más.
Una cosa que nos gustó mucho es que tienen espacios decorados como pisos con superficies "del mundo real" (no como los casoplones que salen en algunos programas de TV y algunas revistas de decoración). Así es posible hacerse una idea de cómo se puede amueblar y decorar.
Estaba todo puesto con tan buen gusto que nos habríamos llevado media tienda, pero hemos sido muy comedidas.

Well, it was nothing like that. Ikea is a lot more than simple furniture. One thing we liked very much is that they have recreated 'real life' flats (unlike the mansions you sometimes see on TV and in some home and lifestyle magazines). Getting ideas on how to furnish and decorate your home is much more easy that way. All the spaces were so lovingly furnished we would have emptied the store, but we were very restrained.

Unos días antes de ir, Marian había echado un vistazo a la web y hecho una lista con las cosas que le gustaron. Esto es muy importante, para no acabar comprando por comprar. Y es que, con la cantidad de cosas tan bonitas que hay, es muy fácil caer en la tentación.
Y volvió con varias cositas; sobre todo, de almacenaje, pero también alguna cosilla más.

A few days prior to her visit, Marian had a scout around the website and made a list with the things she liked. It's very important to avoid buying stuff for the sake of buying. And it was very easy to be tempted, with all the nice stuff they had.
And she came back with a few things, mainly for storage but with a few other goodies as well.

¿Os acordáis de la "ñapa" que hice con una percha de tintorería? Sí, aquella que convertí en un organizador de bufandas, gracias a unas anillas de cortina.

Remember the 'hack' I did with a clothes' hanger from the dry cleaner's on one of our DIY posts? I made a scarf organiser with it and some curtain rings.

Pues una de las cosas que apunté en mi "wishlist" de Ikea fue *esta* percha organizadora de bufandas. Los aros que tiene son mucho más grandes que los de mi "hazlo tú". De esta manera puedo poner bufandas de lana gruesa que en el otro organizador no cabían.

Well, one of the things I had on my wishlist for Ikea was this clothes' hanger scarf organizer. The rings it has are much bigger than those on the one I made. This way I can store bigger scarves I couldn't put on the other organizer.

Y como todas las ideas para organizar son bienvenidas, también compré esta otra percha, en la que se pueden colgar 5 pantalones. Es ideal para cuando se tiene un armario no muy grande y mucha ropa.

All ideas about storage are very welcome, so I also bought this clothes' hanger, on which you can hang 5 pairs of trousers/jeans. It's great when you have too much clothing, but not so much space in your wardrobe.

También compré estos organizadores; en mi caso, para meter revistas. Me gusta guardar las revistas de decoración extranjeras que compro cuando marox y yo nos marcamos esos viajes tan estupendos, jeje. Compré 2 paquetes de 2 organizadores, pero sólo he abierto uno.

I also bought these organizers; in this case, to store magazines. I like keeping the ones about decoration which I used to buy when we visit those fantastic places when we travel abroad. I bought 2 packs of two, but I've opened just one of them.

Esto ya no es para organizar, pero siempre había querido una bandeja con patitas.

This is not an organizer, but I always wanted to have a tray with legs.

Y esto otro tampoco es para organizar. Es un soporte para el portátil. El que veis en la foto es el de marox; yo me lo he comprado igual, pero en negro.

This one isn't an organizer either. It's a stand for the laptop. You can see marox's one on the pic; mine is the same as this one, in black.

Y ahora os enseño las cositas que me regalaron mis padres cuando estuvieron en Ikea con marox. Y es que nuestra primera visita al Ikea la hicimos por separado. Sus vacaciones y mis turnos no eran compatibles.

Now I'm showing you the things my parents gave me when they were at Ikea with marox. Our first visit to Ikea was separately. Her holidays and my shifts weren't compatible.

Una rejilla para proteger la encimera cuando pones algo muy caliente encima. Hasta ahora, las cazuelas y sartenes calientes sólo las podía poner en la vitrocerámica o en el suelo.

A rack to protect the hob when you put something very hot on it. So far, hot pans and saucepans could be put only on the cooktop or on the floor.

Y de nuevo, otra cosa para organizar. En esta ocasión, los mandos a distancia. En la foto podéis ver lo bien que cumple su función.

De momento, estas han sido todas las compras (y los regalos). En cuanto a las compras, me temo que no serán las últimas. Ikea nos ha gustado tanto que prometemos volver. Eso sí, volveremos juntas.

Quizá ya lo sepáis, pero yo lo acabo de descubrir gracias al último post de ENIX *aquí*. Beautik, la cadena de perfumerías preferida por muchas, por la variedad de marcas disponibles, en las que la calidad no está reñida con el precio, dispone ya de tienda online.

This post may not come as a surprise for some Spanish readers, but I just found out thanks to ENIX latest blogpost *here*. Beautik is the place to go for the widest range of budget-friendly makeup brands here in Spain and to make your shopping experience even better, they now have an online store.

Personalmente, tan sólo he comprado en Beautik en tienda física (*Salamanca*), así que no os puedo hablar de aspectos como rapidez en el envío y demás.

Creo que puedo decir sin temor a equivocarme que esta es mi primera entrada en la que os enseño ropa.

Acabo de desechar dos pantalones vaqueros que están rotos (aunque algo haré con ellos, pero no será otro bolso), así que tenía que reponerlos.

I think that I can safely say that this is my first clothes post.

I've just discarded two pairs of worn out jeans (although I'll do something with them, but I'm not making another bag), so I had to buy a replacement for them.

Aprovechando que ayer por la mañana teníamos que ir a Carrefour a comprar, decidimos echar un vistazo en Springfield, que nos quedaba muy a mano nada más subir la rampa mecánica.

Seizing the fact that yesterday morning we had to go to Carrefour to do the shopping, we decided to have a look at the Springfield store, that was just in front of us right after going up the escalators.

Y me he comprado estos vaqueros que os voy a enseñar ahora, al módico precio de 9,99€ cada uno. Son de tejido elástico y de pata acampanada, que no sé si se llevarán mucho o no (tampoco es que me importe demasiado), pero desde luego son los que mejor me quedan. De hecho, casi todos los que tengo son así.

So I finally bought these jeans I'm showing you now, at the reasonable price of €9,99 each. They're stretchy and have flared legs, which I don't know if they're in fashion (and I don't really mind), but certainly are the ones that fit me best. In fact, almost all the jeans I have are like this.

Miré en la etiqueta el precio original. Unos costaban 39,95€ y los otros 32,95€, así que creo que el ahorro ha sido importante.

I had a look at the label to see the original price: €39,95 and €32,95, so I think I've saved quite a lot of money, which is important.

De compras por Ámsterdam - Amsterdam Shopping Guide: HEMA

Creo que con esta entrada, termino ¡por fin! la serie dedicada a las potitiendas de Ámsterdam. Lo hago con HEMA, que en realidad son unos grandes almacenes, toda una institución local. No sólo venden artículos de belleza, sino que allí podemos encontrar desde toallas a artículos de papelería y alimentación especializada.




With this post, I'm wrapping up at long last the series dedicated to the must-go places for makeupholics on a budget in Amsterdam. And today's post is to tell you about HEMA, one of the largest department stores in The Netherlands and a local institution, selling anything from houseware goods to stationery and gourmet food.

Los grandes almacenes HEMA tienen también su propia marca de maquillaje, aunque no compramos nada. Sí que nos llamó la atención una prebase para el rostro en tarrito, similar a la de Studio Secrets de L'Oreal y lo cierto es que dejaba la piel notablemente más lisa y por un precio mucho menor.




HEMA department stores have their own make-up line, though we didn't get anything this time. We did notice a make-up primer in a jar, similar to the Studio Secrets one that did the same job for a fraction of the price.

De compras por Ámsterdam - Amsterdam Shopping Guide: Douglas

Hoy vengo con la ¿última? entrega dedicada a las poticompras de Ámsterdam y en esta ocasión me gustaría hablaros de Douglas. Puesto que en España tenemos perfumerías Douglas y también os hablé de ellas en las entradas de compras de Berlín, ahora simplemente mencionaré aquellas marcas que podemos encontrar en las droguerías Douglas de Holanda.
Nosotras visitamos la tienda de Kalverstraat 71, una de las principales calles comerciales de la ciudad y la perfumería Douglas está al lado de una tienda Rituals, así que no tiene pérdida.
Es una tienda muy amplia, de dos pisos.

I'm back with the last? post in the Amsterdam make-up shopping guide series and today I'll be talking about Douglas perfumeries. As we have Douglas here in Spain and I already talked about them at length as part of the Berlin shopping guide, today I'll only mention those brands specifically found in The Netherlands. We visited the store located in Kalverstraat 71, one of the city's main shopping streets and the Douglas perfumery is next to a Rituals store, so it's hard to miss. It's a big, two-storey store.

Aparte de las marcas que podemos encontrar en Douglas (ArtDeco, Isadora, BeYu), en Amsterdam también tenían la marca Black Opal, de la que ya os hablé y stands de otras que no vimos en ningún otro sitio, como Herôme o Koh, especializadas en productos para la manicura, principalmente esmaltes. El precio de los esmaltes de Herôme rondaba los 7€ y Koh algo más.
En algunos Kruidvats vimos alguna cosa suelta de Herôme, principalmente en las cestas de liquidación, pero no un mueble propiamente dicho.
En Douglas tenían únicamente -aunque era bastante grande- la colección World Inspired Colours o WIC, que podéis ver en la foto.




Apart from the Douglas exclusive brands (such as ArtDeco, Isadora and BeYu), in Amsterdam you will also find the brand Black Opal I mentioned in an earlier post and displays from others we didn't see anywhere else like Herôme or Koh, both specializing in manicure-related products, namely nail polishes. The prize for Herôme polishes was around 7 EUR and Koh were pricier. We did see a couple of Herôme polishes in other stores like Kruidvat, at reduced prices in the discontinued products baskets/fishbowls, not as part of a proper display.
Douglas merely -large as it is- had the World Inspired Colours collection or WIC, pictured here in this post.




A diferencia de Berlin, en Amsterdam no vimos stands de OPI, que sí encontramos por ejemplo en las tiendas del aeropuerto de Schiphol. De precio, creo recordar que unos 14 €.
Unlike in Berlin, this Amsterdam Douglas store does not have an OPI display. The only place we found that was at the stores in Schiphol airport. If I remember right, they were about 14EUR each.

Hoy vengo con otro post, probablemente el último, dedicado a las tiendas de visita obligada en Amsterdam para potingueras. En esta ocasión, os voy a hablar de una cadena de droguerías de lo que no había oído hablar ni leído en blogs: Dirx Drogist.




I'm back with another post, probably the last one, about the must-see places of interest for makeupholics on a budget in Amsterdam. This time, I'd like to write about a drugstore chain I'd never heard or read of on the blogs: Dirx Drogist.

Lo cierto es que dimos con una de las tiendas que esta cadena posee en Ámsterdam *ver aquí* por casualidad, ya que se encuentra enfrente de uno de los Kruidvats que visitamos en nuestra última mañana en esta ciudad. En concreto, estuvimos en la tienda de Rijnstraat 50-52.
Es como una especie de supermercado dividido en secciones: droguería, alimentación... que curiosamente son independientes unas de otras, aunque estén dentro del mismo recinto.
Me hubiera gustado hacer fotos, pero la climatología aquel día no acompañaba y no me molesté en sacar mi pequeña cámara y por desgracia la de mi hermana, cual ley de Murphy, estuvo varios días atrapada dentro de la mochila -se le desprogramó el candado-.

The truth is we actually stumbled upon one of the stores they have in Amsterdam *see here*, which happened to be right opposite one of the Kruidvats we went to on our last morning there. To be more precise, we went to the store located in Rijnstraat 50-52. It's like some sort of supermarket divided in different sections: drugstore, foodstore... that are independent from one another, though they are within the same facilities. I wish I'd taken some photos, but the weather was just dreadful that day and didn't even take the trouble to take my handy camera and unfortunately my sister's - as if under the influence of one of Murphy's Laws - was trapped inside her camera bag for a few days -her padlock combination changed itself with no input from her-.

En Dirx Drogist encontramos algunas marcas habituales en cualquier droguería tipo L'Oreal y otras que hay habíamos visto en otros sitios, como Miss Sporty -de la que os hablé *aquí*. También en la gama de bajo coste, encontramos la marca Paris Memories, de la que Marian se trajo un esmalte de recuerdo. Apenas he visto información sobre la marca: por lo que he leído creo que se trata de una marca de los países árabes. De precio, todo muy baratito, aunque la presentación de los productos quizá era algo anticuada -no tan alegre y colorida como Essence con sus Cosmas-.

At Dirx Drogist we can find common drugstore brands like L'Oreal as well as others we'd seen there already like Miss Sporty -that I mentioned *here*-. Also in the low-cost range they offer the brand Paris Memories, from which Marian got herself a 'memory' in the shape of a nailpolish. There's almost no information about the brand online: from what I can gather, I think it comes from the Middle East. Pricewise, it was dirt cheap though the packaging of the products feels somewhat dated -and not as lively and colourful as Essence with its Cosma girls.

Pero la marca que nos hizo babear y ejercer algo de autocontrol fue Teeez. Tenían un stand de esos giratorios. Aunque no tiene una variedad apabullante de colorido, lo cierto es que la presentación y la pigmentación de los productos era excelente. Lamentablemente, no conservo el ticket, pero creo recordar que los esmaltes costaban 4.50 € y la mayoría de productos no llegaban a los 7 €. Compramos dos de los esmaltes holográficos -creo que había cuatro holográficos en total- y Marian compró un brillo de labios que aunque aún no ha estrenado, tiene una pigmentación comparable a los Megashine de NYX, o sea, de sobresaliente.

But the brand that really had us on the verge of drooling and forced us to exercise some self-control was Teeez. They had one of those revolving displays and although the colour range is not as impressive and large as others, the packaging and colour payoff was top-of-the-range. Unfortunately I seem to have lost the receipt but seem to recall the polishes were 4.50€ each and the rest of the products did not exceed the 7 € bar. We got two of their holographic polishes (I think there were 4 holos) and Marian also bought a lipgloss she hasn't got round to use yet but the tester's colour payoff was comparable to what you get with NYX Megashine lipglosses, i.e. outstanding.

Inglot Amsterdam - 'Lo que pudo haber sido y no fue / What could have been... but wasn't'

Continúo con los post sobre las tiendas de cosmética y droguerías que visitamos en Ámsterdam con Inglot, que supuso una DECEPCIÓN TOTAL. ¿Las palabras 'Inglot' y 'decepción' en una misma frase? Ahora mismo os imagino y os estáreis haciendo de cruces. Pues si queréis saber el porqué, seguid leyendo.




I'm back with yet another post about the beauty stores and drugstores we visited in Amsterdam and today is Inglot's turn and you'll be in for a shock when I tell you that was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. The words 'Inglot' and 'disappointment' together in the same sentence? No way!! I guess that's what you're probably thinking right now. Well, if you want to know why, keep on reading.

Antes de nuestro viaje, como parte de las indagaciones que hacemos siempre que viajamos fuera (hoteles, restaurantes, etc) nos estuvimos informando también de sitios interesantes para ir de compras, principalmente de poticompras, jeje. Consultando la web de Inglot, descubrimos que la marca polaca de maquillaje profesional -con la que gente como Wayne Goss o nuestra Adriana de Colourful Randomness e Isa de Amigas Makeup, entre otras, llevan tiempo poniéndonos los dientes largos- tenía tienda en Ámsterdam. Así que igual que nos empapamos de críticas de posibles hoteles y demás, nos dimos unas cuantas vueltas por la blogosfera y youtube, leyendo opiniones y viendo colores.
Nos las prometíamos muy felices regresando a España con nuestros Duraline y una paletita de sombras (al ser los precios en Ámsterdam mucho más caros, nos conformábamos con una de cuatro sombras). Yo me había hecho ya la ilusión de hacerme con el negro mate de Inglot, para los looks flamencos y para qué negarlo, porque es un imprescindible. ¿Les suena 'El cuento de la Lechera'?

Before the holidays, as part of the research we always do when we travel abroad about the different hotels, restaurants and so on, we spent a few days checking out the 'go to' places to go make-up shopping, lol. On the store locator on Inglot's corporate website, we saw they had a store in Amsterdam and decided we'd definitely be paying it a visit. This professional make-up brand from Poland has been very much talked of lately, first by Wayne Goss and then by many others like our Adriana from Colourful Randomness or Isa from Amigas Makeup, who have been praising this brand and making us drool in front of the computer screen every now and then. We therefore read lots of reviews and saw endless swatches and were already taking for granted our flying back home with our coveted Duraline and eyeshadow palettes. The Amsterdam store is pricier than the Inglot stores here in Spain, so we'd decided to settle for a 4-eyeshadow palette. I literally dreamt to have Inglot's matte black eyeshadow for my flamenco stage looks and well, because a good black eyeshadow is a must-have, an investment. Does 'The Milkmaid's Tale' ring a bell?

Por más que busqué, fui incapaz de encontrar información sobre el horario de la tienda y sigo sin saberlo. ¿Tan difícil sería poner un *puñetero* cartelito en la puerta con los horarios de la tienda, Sres. de Inglot Amsterdam? El primer intento fue en nuestro cuarto día, tras visitar los museos de la zona (Rijksmuseum, Diamant y Van Gogh) y si queréis ese día hasta tuvimos 'suerte'. Sí, la tienda estaba cerrada, pero las dependientas estaban dentro, limpiando y recogiendo. Había luz dentro y ya sabéis lo que dicen de que si hay luz, hay esperanza. Eran las cinco y cuarto, si mal no recuerdo, así que supusimos que cerraban a las cinco. ¡A las cinco de la tarde! ¡Españolas, cáiganse de espaldas! Me apuesto el cuello, a que a esa hora ABREN las tiendas de Murcia o Canarias. ¿¿¿Pero cuándo leches van las amsterdamesas de compras con esos mini-horarios??? O quizá la pregunta debería ser ¿cuándo trabajan? Para que luego los españoles tengamos fama de vagos. Yo estuve trabajando en una multinacional hace años y teníamos horario de 9 am a 6pm, con sólo una hora para comer -aunque el 99.9% de las veces salíamos a las 8pm y de horas extras pagadas, nanay.
Sí, coordinar el hacer turismo con ir de compras en Ámsterdam es complicado.
Hicimos fotos del escaparate de la tienda y Marian creía vislumbrar el Duraline. Fotos del careto que se nos quedó no hicimos, no.

After endless queries online, I could not find any info about the store's opening times and I still don't have a clue now. Dear Inglot Amsterdam folks, is it sooo very hard to put a *damn* doorsign with that info??? We first tried on Day 4, after visiting the museums in the area (Rijksmuseum, Diamant and Van Gogh) and in a way, we were even 'lucky' -ironic mode ON- that day, as the store was closed but the employees were still inside, cleaning and tidying up. There was light inside and you know what they say, when there's light, there is hope. It was quarter past five, so we assumed the store closed at 5pm. At five friggin' pm, ladies!!! I'd bet my life that's the time the Inglot stores in Spain OPEN. When on earth can Amsterdam ladies go shopping with such crazy timetables?? Or maybe the question should be, when do they work?? Because I used to work for a multinational company for some years and we had to work 9am to 6pm, with just a one-hour lunchbreak. And 99.9% of days we had to stay until 8pm, without them paying overtime. Think about it the next time you read about Spaniards being lazy workers!!
Yes, combining sightseeing and shopping in Amsterdam can be a little bit trying.
We took photos of the store from outside and Marian swears she had spotted the Duraline. And no, we didn't take pics of our sorry, disappointed faces.




Así que el quinto día decidimos ir sobre seguro e ir a Inglot primero y pensamos que a las 10.30 tendría que estar abierta la tienda por narices. ¡Pues NO! Nos dimos una vuelta por Vondelpark, y ya pasadas las 11 desistimos, no sin antes soltar algún improperio. Lo peor, es que ése día ni siquiera había luz dentro, la reja estaba bajada... Vamos, que aquello estaba más muerto que una momia. Lo que más rabia nos dio es que con un simple cartel en la puerta con los horarios, nos podríamos haber ahorrado el viaje. ¡¡Tan fácil como eso, Sres. de Inglot!




So the next day, we decided to play it safe and check out Inglot first and thought the store was sure to be open at 10.30. Guessed wrong, it WASN'T!! We took a walk around Vondelpark and we gave up entirely a few expletives later, at about ten past eleven. The store was pitch black, the bars were down... not good. The thing was as dead as an Egyptian mummy. The worst thing is that we could have spared the journey had they had an info board with the opening times. As easy as that, Inglot folks!!

De compras por Amsterdam - Amsterdam Shopping Guide (II) : Etos

En la primera parte *ver*, os hablé de la cadena de droguerías más conocida de Holanda/Bélgica, Kruidvat, que si bien es muy conocida, no tiene tanta presencia en Ámsterdam como la que os voy a presentar a continuación.

Las droguerías Etos tienen un montón de tiendas en Amsterdam, raro será si no os topáis con al menos una docena de ellas. No se encuentran sólo en las zonas más comerciales, sino que también podéis ver algunas en las estaciones de tren, como es el caso de Amstel Station.




In Part one *click here*, I talked about the most popular drugstores in The Netherlands/Belgium, Kruidvat, and the spotlight today is to introduce another drugstore to you, one not as popular as Kruidvat but which has a lot more stores.

Etos drugstores are everpresent in Amsterdam, so I'd say I'd be surprised if you don't see a dozen of them during your stay. They're not only found in the more touristy streets or the main shopping areas, but also in other places like train stations, as in Amstel Station for instance.





La variedad de marcas que ofrece quizá no es tan llamativa como Kruidvat (Essence, Catrice), pero aún así merece la pena entrar. Dispone de su propia marca de maquillaje, Etos, de precio similar a Essence. Lo único que compramos fueron los sets de minilápices de ojos de edición limitada y unos pigmentos que tenían rebajados. A diferencia de los de la línea normal, estos lápices pigmentaban muy bien. La mayoría de los productos tienen tester, así que antes de arrasar, probadlos primero.
Aparte de Etos, vimos por primera vez un mueble de la marca Miss Sporty, de precio y estética similar a Essence y que a pesar de ser una marca ¿española? -del grupo Astor, sospecho-, no tenemos en España hasta donde yo sé. Al igual que Essence y Catrice, también saca ediciones limitadas.

The assortment of brands available is perhaps not as interesting as what Kruidvat has to offer (Essence, Catrice), but it's definitely worth a visit. They have their own line of cosmetics, Etos, similar to Essence pricewise. The only stuff we got was the mini eyepencil sets that were LE items and a couple of loose powders that were discounted. Unlike the eyepencils in the standard assortment, these had great colour payoff. There are testers available, so make sure you swatch the products first before you go crazy buying. Besides Etos make-up, we saw for the first time a Miss Sporty display, which is odd considering the brand is made in Spain (by the Astor group, if my suspicions are right) but is not available here as far as I know. Like Essence & Catrice, they also have limited editions.

Otra marca interesante que encontramos en Etos y no en Kruidvat es MNY, la línea de colorido joven y a buen precio de Maybelline. Los muebles no son grandes, pero están muy aprovechados. De MNY me traje en esta ocasión un esmalte marrón oscuro con brillos dorados de la EL Bikini Babe. Lo he estrenado justo ayer, así que ya os comentaré qué me parece en una futura entrega de UDLS.




Another brand available at Etos but not Kruidvat that is worth checking out is MNY, Maybelline's younger sister brand offering lots of colour at friendlier prices. The displays are not very big but have everything you may need. I got another nail polish from MNY, from the Bikini Babe LE. It's a dark brown polish with golden shimmer to it. Have tried yesterday, so you'll get to read how I like it in some forthcoming NOTW post.

En Etos encontramos una marca curiosa, que vimos también en otras droguerías y perfumerías de la ciudad, Black Opal. Se trata de una marca pensada específicamente para las mujeres de color, que imagino no siempre encuentren tonos que destaquen en su piel dentro de las marcas habituales. No me fijé en precios, pero imagino que tengan un precio medio.

There was another brand we were introduced to, Black Opal, present in other drugstores and perfumeries throughout the city. It's specifically conceived for black women, whom I suspect will not find all their colouring make-up needs met by the most widely available brands. I didn't pay attention to prices, but I'd say it was within the average.

Pasar por la sección de minitallas es un peligro, porque seguro que os apetece probar algo. Yo me llevé una mini manteca corporal de guayaba y fruta de la pasión y una espuma para el pelo de Etos. También compramos un kit de tres tarritos de viaje, que siempre vienen bien para poder llevar vuestras cremitas favoritas de viaje en un envase más pequeño.

Taking a look at the travel-size aisle is tricky, as you always end up getting something. I couldn't resist buying a guava & passion fruit mini body butter as well as a styling hair mousse. We also got a set of travel-friendly jars which are great for carrying your favourite face products in a more convenient format.

Al igual que nos pasó en Kruidvat, Marian alucinó con la sección de parafarmacia, donde es posible adquirir algunos de los medicamentos más socorridos tipo paracetamol, o también parches de nicotina y antihistamínicos para las alergias.

As in Kruidvat, Marian was amazed by the OTC drugstore section, selling common medicines that don't require a prescription and they had stuff like paracetamol, nicotine patches and antihistamines for allergies.

Así que ya sabéis, si alguna vez tenéis la oportunidad de entrar en una, echad un vistazo.

I'd like to share with you another Amsterdam-related post and today it's time to tell you about the must-go places for makeupholics who want to be pretty without spending a fortune.
If you want to splurge, the capital of The Netherlands has plenty of places to do so: La Savonnerie, Rituals, Make Up Store, Kiehls, MAC and MAC Pro, Inglot and many others.




En cuanto a droguerías, quizá la más conocida e interesante sea Kruidvat. Allí podéis encontrar tanto Essence como Catrice, Gosh, una selección de productos de Sally Hansen, Casuelle, además de las habituales marcas de perfumería como Max Factor o L'Oreal. Tiene una sección muy maja de miniaturas -no tan exagerada como en el DM- con productos tanto para el cabello como para el cuerpo. Incluso tienen protector solar en tamaño mini, ideal para las que les gusta viajar ligeras de equipaje pero no descuidan su piel bajo el sol.
De la sección de miniatura, compramos espuma para el pelo y protector solar.




As for drugstores, the best-known and interesting is probably Kruidvat. That's the place to go if you want to buy Essence, Catrice, Gosh, as well as selected items from Sally Hansen, Casuelle and other universal brands like Max Factor or L'Oreal. They have a nice selection of travel-sized products -not as big as the German drugstores DM- with both hair and body care items. They even had mini sunscreens, perfect for those who want to travel light but don't want to take risks with their skin under the sun.
We got styling mousse and a sunscreen from the travel-size section at Kruidvat.






Si os gustan los jabones sólidos, los tenéis de muchos tipos y muy bien de precio. En la foto, una reliquia, el jabón Maja. Nuestra abuela paterna usaba la colonia y olía... rarito.
And if you like solid soaps/beauty bars, there are many different ones and they're very reasonably priced. Pictured, a relic from the past, Maja soap bar. Our grandmother on my father's side used the cologne and the scent was... weird.



Como única nota negativa, comentar que no hay tantas como esperaba. En total, creo que visitamos cuatro o cinco, las dos primeras sí que estaban en el centro, dentro de la zona más turística y comercial. Las fotos que ilustran este post corresponden a la tienda de Nieuwendijk 160. Más o menos céntricas, visitamos también las de Regulierbreestraat 22 y la de Ferdinand Bolstraat 33-39. El último día, como nuestro vuelo salía por la tarde, nos acercamos hasta las de Van Woustraat 98-102 y la Rijnstraat 53-55-57, que eran las que quedaban más cerca de nuestro hotel, el Casa 400. Están relativamente cerca, aunque tenéis un paseíto hasta allí.
En los tickets, no figura el nombre de la calle, sólo el número de sucursal, pero creo que fueron esas. *Kruidvat en Amsterdam*

The only downside I can come up with is the fact that there are not as many Kruidvats as I expected. The first two stores we visited were indeed in the city centre, in the most commercial streets. The pictures included in this post were taken at the one on the Nieuwendijk 160. More or less centrally located, we also went into those located in Regulierbreestraat 22 and Ferdinand Bolstraat 33-39. If I'm not mistaken, the last two we visited during our last morning in Amsterdam were those located in Van Woustraat 98-102 and Rijnstraat 53-55-57, which were the closest ones from our hotel, the Casa 400. Close, but not too close, as you have a nice walk ahead of you.
Although we keep the tickets, there's no address on them, just the store number, but we're pretty much sure. *Kruidvat stores in Amsterdam*

De compras por Tallin (Parte 2) / Tallinn Shopping Guide (Part 2)

En la primera parte dedicada a los mejores lugares para hacer nuestras compras en Tallin, os hablé del C.C. Viru Keskus, muy céntrico ya que está pegando al casco antiguo.

Hoy, os hablaré de un pequeño centro (galerías) comercial que también está en el centro, el Foorum y del centro comercial más grande de Estonia, el Rocca al Mare. En mi post sobre las compras de Tallin que he subido hace poco, podéis ver lo que compré tanto en el Viru Keskus como en el Rocca al Mare.

In the first part of my Tallinn Shopping Guide about the best places to go shopping in Tallinn, I talked about the Viru Keskus shopping centre, a very convenient Mall as it is right next to the Old Town.

Today I'll tell you about a much smaller shopping (arcade) centre, Foorum Keskus, also in the city centre and also about Estonia's largest shopping centre, the Rocca al Mare Mall. In my Tallinn haul post I uploaded earlier, you can see my purchases from both Viru Keskus and Rocca al Mare.




Las galerías comerciales Foorum están a poca distancia del Viru Keskus. Allí encontramos algunas tiendas de ropa como la francesa MORGAN, la danesa S'NOB y Replay. En cuanto a cosmética, tenemos una tienda de Lush y una tienda de productos de peluquería muy interesante llamada Thaya, ya que tiene un stand de la americana Palladio y otro de Spa Rituals, para las que gustamos de pintarnos las uñas. A diferencia de lo que suele ocurrir en España, en Estonia no me ha dado la impresión de que inflan los precios de las marcas extranjeras que traen (Opi, por ejemplo). Finalmente no compré nada, pero es un detalle que me parece digno de mención. La media de precios de Palladio era de unos 6€, los esmaltes de Spa Ritual eran más caros, pero en EEUU yo diría que es una marca con la que darse un caprichín de vez en cuando (sobre todo cuando estás rodeada de marcas baratísimas).

The Foorum shopping arcade is really close to Viru Keskus. If you're looking for clothes, you might want to check out the French Morgan, the Danish S'NOB and Replay. As for cosmetics, there's a Lush store and also a beauty supplies store called Thaya, a place you may also want to go into as it has both a display from the American Palladio and another one of Spa Ritual, for those who love painting their nails. Unlike what we're used to here in Spain, I didn't get the impression in Estonia that foreign brands being imported into the country being overinflated in the process (as OPI is here, for instance). I didn't get anything in the end, but I thought it was something worth mentioning. The average price in the Palladio counter was about 6 EUR, with Spa Rituals lacquers being more expensive, though I'd say it's a brand one splurges in the US, too (particulary when you're surrounded by lots and lots of dirt cheap brands).



Y finalmente, tendríamos el Rocca al Mare. A diferencia de los anteriores, está bastante apartado, por lo que lo ideal sería ir hasta allí en coche o en transporte público (en mi caso, el Trolebús nº 7). Está enfrente del Zoo de Tallin, que ya os enseñé en mi última entrada de viajes.




And finally we have the Rocca al Mare. Unlike the other two, it's quite far and you'd either need a car or use public transport to get there (in my case, Trolleybus no. 7). It's opposite Tallinn's Zoo I mentioned in my previous travel post.




En cuanto a ropa, tenemos de nuevo tiendas como Seppälä y un outlet de Stockmann. La verdad es que no entré en ninguna de ellas, pero sí que hice sendas fotos, como podéis ver. Había otra macrolibrería (con cafetería/cibercafé y todo, de la misma cadena en la que compré uno de los libros que me he traido de este viaje, sólo que yo lo compré en la del Viru Keskus.
Tenemos también otro Accesorize (tienda un poco "carera", aunque con cosas monas), Esprit y otras muchas más. Ya he comentado que yo orientándome soy peor que un "pulpo en un garaje" y para muestra un botón: pensé que había dado la vuelta a todo el centro comercial, cuando para mi sorpresa me topé con otro pasillo de tiendas, entre ellas un Marks & Spencer. ;)




As for clothes, again we have Seppälä and a Stockmann Outlet. The truth is I didn't get in any of them, but I did take a couple of pics, as you can see. There was also a huge bookstore from the same chain I visited at Viru Keskus (and where I bought one of the books I've brought home from this trip). It had an online café too. There was another Accesorize (a pricey store, imo, though with cute stuff), Esprit and a lot more. I've already mentioned that I'm a mess when it comes to finding my bearings, like 'an octopus in a garage' and here's an example of it: I thought I had already taken a complete tour of the place when I turned a corner and there it was: another hall full of stores, with a Marks & Spencer store among them. LOL.




En este centro comercial, encontramos de nuevo alguna de las tiendas que vimos en el Viru Keskus, como la tienda de jabones Stenders. De precio, no me parecieron excesivamente caros, aproximadamente 4,50€ cada jabón. Me hizo gracia un jabón de leche de cabra que tenía forma como de huevo frito. Si os gustan los jabones y los productos de cuidado corporal, tenemos también otra tienda de The Body Shop.
Había una tienda de productos naturales (un herbolario) con un stand de la marca EcoTools. Y como no, marox lo tuvo que "afotar", aunque fuera desde fuera.




At the Rocca al Mare, we have some of the stores that were also present at Viru Keskus, like the soap store Stenders. Pricewise, I didn't find them particularly expensive but within what you would expect to pay in this kind of store, about 4.50 EUR per soap. They had this cute goat milk soap that resembled a fried egg, ;) If you're into soaps and body care, there's another The Body Shop store for you. There was this herbalist's and organic products store with an EcoTools display. And of course, marox had to snap a pic of the shop window, even if it was from the outside.




Si en el Viru teníamos la perfumería Kaubamaja Ilumaailm, aquí tenemos dos más pequeñas pero que también merece la pena visitar: I.L.U. y Ideaal Kosmeetika. La primera es más grande y con una mayor variedad de marcas: Too Faced, L'Oreal, Max Factor, Chanel, ArtDeco, pero también otras menos habituales como The Balm, (con una presentación muy similar a Benefit), Alessandro, Sally Hansen o Collistar, así como marcas nórdicas como Lumene y Make up Store. Junto al stand de Alessandro, tenían una especie de "bar de uñas".

If we had the Kaubamaja Ilumaailm perfumery at Viru, at the Rocca al Mare we have two smaller stores worth a visit: I.L.U. and Ideaal Kosmeetika. The first one is the biggest and offers a wider range of brands: Too Faced, L'Oreal, Max Factor, Chanel or ArtDeco, but also others more hard to find like The Balm (very similar in its packaging to Benefit), Alessandro, Sally Hansen, Make up Store or Collistar, with also room for some nordic brands like Lumene. Next to the Alessandro counter there was some sort of 'nails bar'.




Aunque más pequeñita, Ideaal Kosmeetika también tenía alguna cosa interesante aparte de las habituales marcas de droguería. BeYu, Pupa, Manhattan, Sally Hansen, Make up Factory, Lumene y Rouge Bunny Rouge también tienen allí su espacio.

Though smaller, Ideaal Kosmeetika also had some interesting stuff to offer, besides the usual drugstore brands. BeYu, Pupa, Manhattan, Sally Hansen, Make up Factory, Lumene and Rouge Bunny Rouge were available there.

No estaría de más que entrárais al supermercado Prisma, ya que tiene algunos productos de cosmética y cuidado corporal interesantes. De allí salieron los esmaltes de Wild and Crazy que os enseñé en el post de las compras de Tallin. También tenían Manhattan y alguna cosilla más.

A visit to the Prisma supermarket could be a good idea too, as they had some interesting stuff in the cosmetics and beauty aisle. I bought the Wild and Crazy lacquers I showed you in the Tallinn haul post and they also had Manhattan, among others.

Pero además de comprar potecillos para nosotras hasta en el supermercado, a Molly le compré allí un sobrecito de comidita húmeda de salmón y trucha, que hemos esperado a darle cuando estuviera Marian. El regalito de su tita le ha gustado, jeje. Cuando estuvimos en Berlín le trajimos también comidita para gatos alemana (del DM), que hasta en eso es mejor que la española. La de Estonia es parecida a la de aquí (las albondiguillas son iguales, ya sea de carne o de pescado). La del DM sí que tenía buena pinta, jeje.

But besides getting some make up goodies for us, even from the supermarket, I bought Molly a packet of cat food, the one that comes with gravy. It has salmon and trout and we've waited until Marian came over to give her her present. I think she liked it very much, lol. When we went to Berlin, we also brought her some German cat food (from DM, btw) and it was also better than the one we can get here, in the sense that fish or meat it all looks the same. The German one seemed really good, hehe.
