Una sorpresa inesperada / An unexpected surprise

 ¡Hola!
¿Qué tal lleváis el comienzo de la primavera? Esperamos que bien.

Pronto tendré algo más de tiempo para dedicarle al blog y a otras cosas, ya que a comienzos de abril se me termina el contrato. No es esa la sorpresa inesperada de la que hablo en el título del post, puesto que lo sabía desde hacía meses, sino por lo que véis en la foto que ilustra este post.

No, ese pedazo de ramo de flores no ha sido regalo de ningún novio, familiar ni nada por el estilo. Ha sido el detallazo que han tenido algunos de mis alumnos conmigo para despedirme.
Me van a echar de menos y ahora tendrán que acostumbrarse a un nuevo profesor, pero yo también les echaré de menos e intentaré mejorar para con suerte, poder decir el curso que viene que mis nuevos alumnos -si me llaman para trabajar, claro está- también me echen de menos.

How's the onset of spring going? We hope you're doing fine.

I will soon have more time for the blog and other stuff, since my work contract will expire in early April. It does not come as a surprise and is not what I meant in the title, since I've known about that for a few months. The surprise has to do with the picture that goes with this post.

No, the gorgeous bunch of flowers you see was not a gift from any boyfriend, relative or anything like that. It was the very thoughtful gift of some of my students, as a farewell to me. 
They will miss me and will now have to get used to a new teacher in a short space of time, but I will surely miss them too. I hope I can be a better teacher next year -providing I'm called for work then, that is- so I can also say the new ones will miss me too.

1. A marox le encantaría visitar Suecia y Hawai. Como véis, dos sitios de lo más diferente. A Marian le gustaría visitar Dublín (quizá el año que viene).

2. El último libro que ha (re)leído marox ha sido 'The Kite Runner' ("Cometas en el Cielo"), de Khaled Hosseini. Marian acaba de terminar de leer "La reina en el palacio de las corrientes de aire", la tercera parte de Millennium.

3. Marox no soporta ponerse una camiseta corta. Siempre acaba poniéndose de mal humor de estar tirando todo el rato de ella hacia abajo. A Marian lo que le pone de mal humor son las rozaduras en los pies por los zapatos, cosa que por desgracia, le ha ocurrido muchas veces.

6. En lo que va de verano, no hemos ido a la piscina o playa (aquí no hay) ni una sola vez. Bueno, Marian ha ido esta mañana a la piscina por primera vez. Eso sí, tenemos una cantidad de bañadores y bikinis... pero un día por otro...

1. No tenemos cuenta ni en Facebook, ni en Twitter, Tuenti, etc., ni intención de tenerla nunca. Nuestra única contribución en la red de redes se limita a este humilde blog. No, no somos extraterrestres.
1. We have no Facebook, Twitter, Tuenti account and no intention of ever getting one. Our only contribution to the web is this humble blog. No, we're not from outer space.

2. Aunque nosotras creemos que no nos parecemos tanto, hay gente -incluso familiares- que nos confunden tanto en persona como por teléfono. Incluso una vez un señor nos paró por la calle para preguntarnos si éramos gemelas. Deberían hacer una campaña gratuita de graduación visual, jeje.
2. Though in our opinion we don't really look alike, some people -even relatives- can't tell Mar from Marian, either in person or by phone. A man once stopped us on the street just to ask if we were twins. I think there should be an eye-check campaign, lol.

3. Nos encanta viajar, aunque lo hacemos en vacaciones, no por trabajo como Salander. Nos encanta planear hasta el último detalle, en especial a marox. Ahora mismo estamos preparando otro a cierta capital europea. Y siempre intentamos sumergirnos un poco en el ambiente local, así que no esperéis vernos en un McDonald's. Gracias a nuestros viajes, Marian sabe decir que es alérgica a las setas, champiñones y similares en seis idiomas. Si queréis, podéis contribuir a su particular diccionario.
3. We love to travel, but always when we're on holiday, not for work like Salander. We love to plan everything about them to the last detail, especially Marox. We're currently preparing for another one to a certain European capital. And we always try to blend in with the locals as much as possible, so don't expect to see us at a McDonald's. Thanks to our trips, Marian knows how to say that she's allergic to any kind of mushroom in six different languages, lol. Feel free to contribute to her 'dictionary'.

4. Con todos los respetos, no nos gustan los tatuajes. Ese dibujo tan estupendo que te haces a los 30, lo vas a seguir teniendo a los 80. Por no hablar de que hay que tener mucho cuidado con ellos -algunas mujeres con tatuajes en la parte baja de la espalda, no pueden ponerse la epidural cuando dan a luz; tampoco se puede donar sangre, por ejemplo-.
Marian ya tiene suficientes tatuajes con sus múltiples lunares, que tiene que vigilar a menudo.
4. With all due respect, we don't like tattoos. That nice design you get on your thirties, will still be there when you're 80. And you have to be very careful and forward-thinking with them -many women with tattoos on the lower back can't get epidural anesthesia when they go in labour; or give blood, for instance-. Marian thinks her many moles are enough; she has to keep an eye on them quite often.

5. A Marian le encantaría poder calzarse unos taconazos de aguja de esos que quitan el hipo. Lamentablemente, sus delicados pies no se lo permiten. Todo lo más, tacón de 4 cm, y con buena base, para no torcerse el tobillo.
5. Marian would love to put a pair of breathtaking high heels on. Unfortunately, her delicate feet don't let her do it. Just 4 cm heel maximum, with safe base, to avoid ankle twists.

6. Una "asignatura pendiente" de marox es aprender a patinar en línea. A Marian no le disgustaría tampoco, sobre todo porque dicen que se ponen unas piernas estupendas, jeje.
6. One of Marox's 'unresolved matters' is to learn in-line skating. Marian wouldn't mind to learn, mainly because it is said you can get gorgeous legs, lol.

7. A Marian le gusta mucho la fotografía. No sé si los genes tendrán algo que ver, pero nuestro abuelo era fotógrafo y nuestro padre también se dedicó a la fotografía durante años (ahora ya no). A marox también le gusta, pero dice que no tiene paciencia ni para leer el manual de instrucciones.
7. Marian loves photography. I don't know if genes will have something to do with it, but our late grandfather was a photographer and our father also worked as a photographer for years (he doesn't anymore). Marox also likes it, but she says that she's not patient enough to even read the user manual.

1. Marox es muy llorona: un buen libro o una buena película le han hecho soltar más de una lagrimita -p.ej. 'El Paciente inglés'. A Marian le cuesta más, es más dura para esas cosas.

1. Marox doesn't need much to shed a tear: a good book/movie have made her shed a few - i.e. The English Patient. Marian needs more than that, she's a tough lady.

2. El color favorito de marox es el morado, -se le van los ojos a cualquier cosa de ese color, ya sea en ropa, complementos o maquillaje.A Marian también le gusta el morado.
2. Marox's favourite colour is purple -anything purple has more pulling power than a magnet, being clothes, accesories or make-up. Marian also loves purple.

3. Marox es Tauro y haciendo honor a su signo, es bastante cabezota. Marian es virgo y también hace honor al suyo, ya que es muy paciente y perfeccionista.

3. Marox is a Taurean and as most Taureans is quite stubborn. Marian is a Virgo and like most Virgoans is quite patient and a perfectionist.

4. A Marox le encanta leer: es capaz de pasarse horas seguidas ante un buen libro. A Marian no es que no le guste leer: es que si se pone a leer en la cama se queda dormida enseguida, así que un libro le puede durar varios meses.

4. Marox loves reading: she can read a book for a couple of hours non-stop. Not that Marian doesn't like reading, but if she reads in bed, she falls asleep at once, so she may need a few months to finish a book.

5. La única película de la que Marox se arrepiente de haber visto en el cine es "Conspiración" (con Julia Roberts y Mel Gibson). A Marian le ocurrió algo parecido con la película "Abre los Ojos". Salimos del cine con la sensación de no haber entendido nada.
5. The only movie Marox regrets having paid to see at the cinema was 'Conspiracy Theory' (starring Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson). Something similar happened to Marian with the movie 'Open your eyes', the second film by Alejandro Amenábar. When we went out of the cinema, we had the feeling of not having understood a thing.

6. El perfume favorito de Marox es "Flower" de Kenzo. El de Marian, "Aire" de Loewe.

7. A Marian se le dan muy bien todos los aparatejos electrónicos. Es la encargada de programar, sintonizar; incluso se ha atrevido a formatear el PC.

8. Marox se apuntó hace años a un curso de defensa personal y se lo pasaba tan bien que continuó un par de años más en kárate. Se sacó el cinturón amarillo. No se le daba muy bien -vamos, que no era precisamente Bruce Lee, pero ¡se lo pasaba en grande!
8. Marox took up self-defense lessons some years ago and had so much fun she had Karate instruction for a couple of years. She got a yellow belt. She wasn't very good at it -she was no Bruce Lee, but she had a very good time.

9. Tanto a Marox como a Marian les encanta hacer fotos. Cuando van de viaje, hacen cientos de ellas: de la cosa, con la cosa..., de cualquier cosa que les llame la atención. Como podréis imaginar, Molly tiene un montón de fotos. Cualquier momento es bueno.

9. Both Marox and Marian love taking pictures. When they go on a trip, they take hundreds of them: of the 'thing', with the 'thing'..., of anything that gets their attention. As you can imagine, Molly has a ton of them. Any moment is good for that.

10. Marox nunca fue capaz de aprender a montar en bicicleta. Marian no sería capaz de andar con tacones (aunque le encantaría, porque piensa que son muy elegantes).

10. Marox was never able to learn to ride a bike. Marian could never be able to walk with high-heeled shoes (although she would love to, because she thinks they are very elegant).

-Nos encantan los gatos, sobre todo la nuestra, Molly. Por cierto, tuvo blog mucho antes que nosotras. Es muy fotogénica.

-Marian tiene memoria de elefante, marox79 más bien de pez.
-No nos perdemos ni las carreras de Formula1 ni los partidos de Nadal, de la selección... sobre todo marox.
-Aunque creemos que no nos parecemos físicamente, mucha gente nos confunde.
