Nuestras compras de Essence en Berlín (parte 2)- Our Essence Berlin Haul (part 2).

Hoy os traigo las compras de Essence que hice en Berlín.
Me diréis que para comprar Essence no hace falta irse a Alemania, pues los puntos de venta de Essence en España están muy repartidos. Pero ya que estábamos allí, si lo podemos comprar al precio alemán, pues mejor. Además, como no tenemos mueble de tratamiento aquí (dentro de un par de horas nos plantaremos en el Bustillo del centro, a ver si lo tienen ya, qué emoción), pues era la ocasión adecuada para hacernos con algunas cosillas.

Today I'm showing you my Essence purchases in Berlin. You will probably think that there's no need to go to Germany to buy Essence, as there are many stores all around Spain. OK, you're right, but once there, if we could get all that Essence stuff at German prices, so much the better. Besides, as we don't have an Essence body care display here yet (in a couple of hours we're going downtown to Bustillo -the store that sells Essence here); wish the miracle has happened. How exciting!), it was the right time to get some things.


Compré todo esto que veis, a saber: el kit de estampación, los dos esmaltes de estampar, otra placa más (me encantaron los diseños), el esmalte "Underwater", que si no me equivoco, iban a retirar, la sombra de ojos "22 Blockbuster", que usaré para iluminar el arco de la ceja (cuando se me acabe la del trío de la EL "Secrets of the Past", y la crema facial para pieles mixtas de la línea "My Skin".

I bought the following things: the stampy set, the two stampy nail polishes, another plate (I fell in love with the designs on it), the 'Underwater' nailpolish (about to be discontinued if I'm right), the '22 Blockbuster' eyeshadow, which I'm going to use to highlight the browbone (when the one in the LE 'Secrets of the Past' trio eyeshadow has run out), and the 'My Skin' facial cream for normal/combination skin.

¿Qué he usado de todo esto? Pues todavía nada. Increíble, ¿verdad?
He hecho algún intento de estampación, pero utilicé el kit de mi hermana. Al principio me parecía dificilísimo, porque el esmalte se secaba enseguida, pero creo que ya le voy cogiendo el truco.

What have I used of all these things? Actually I haven't used anything yet. Incredible, isn't it? I've tried stamping only a few times, but I used my sister's set. It seemed sooo difficult at first, because the polish got dried at once, but I think I'm doing better now.

Bueno, os dejo por ahora. Ya os contaré si por fin tenemos mueble de tratamiento de Essence.
¿Qué digo? Como haya llegado, se merecerá una entrada.

Well, I leave you by now. I'll tell you if we have the body care display at last. If it has come, it will surely deserve a post.

Nuestras compras de Alverde en Berlín - Our Alverde Haul in Berlin

Hoy os enseño nuestras compras de Alverde en Berlín.
Alverde es una marca de cosmética natural alemana, con gran variedad de productos y unos precios de escándalo (de baratos, quiero decir). Como supongo que ya os ha dicho mi hermana, se vende en las droguerías DM.

Today I'm showing you our Alverde Haul in Berlin.
Alverde is a natural cosmetics brand, with a wide range of products, and obscenely cheap. I guess my sister has already told you that they're sold at DM drugstores in Germany.

Desde que empecé a leer las entradas del blog de Salander sobre estos productos, sentí la necesidad de hacerme con algunos de ellos en cuanto pudiera, así que me compré los que veis en la foto.

Since I started reading Salander's blog posts about these products, I felt the need to purchase some of them as soon as I could, so I bought the ones you can see on this pic.

Para el cuidado facial, me compré la crema matificante, que ya he empezado, y la verdad es que con muy buen resultado. Al principio, me sorprendió la textura. Esperaba encontrar una textura de gel en vez de una crema, y pensé que no iba a cumplir su función, pero me equivocaba. A pesar de la textura, se absorbe rápidamente y matifica la piel.
También compré el contorno de ojos, pero todavía no lo he usado, ya que estoy esperando que se acabe el que tengo de Yves Rocher, que no me gusta porque tiene unos reflejos nacarados azulados que pienso que desvían la atención precisamente a las ojeras (lo utilizo sólo por la noche por esta razón).

For my face I bought myself the mattifying moisturiser I'm using right now and it works really well. At first the texture surprised me, as I expected a gel-like consistency rather than a creamy one and thought it would not fulfill its target, but I was wrong. Despite its texture, it's absorbed at once and mattifies my skin.

I also bought the eye contour cream, but I haven't used it yet, because I'm still using Yves Rocher's one (I hope it will finish up soon), which I don't like at all, because it has some kind of pearly blue reflections that make the rings under the eyes really eye-catching (that's why I use it only at night).


De productos de maquillaje me compré el colorete en el tono Flamingo (Dios mío, me encanta cómo huele), que ya he usado y me encanta. Es el colorete menos tizoso que he probado en mi vida. Deja un tono muy saludable en la piel. Lo aplico con la mofeta de KIKO que ya os enseñé.
Después de oír hablar de las excelencias del maquillaje mineral, me apetecía probarlo, así que me compré éste que veis, en el tono 02 Natural. Todavía no lo he usado, pero como dicen que va muy bien en verano, porque absorbe más los brillos, esperaré a entonces para estrenarlo.
Y por último, el eyeliner en gel. Como las novedades de essence no habían llegado a Berlín cuando estuvimos, me decidí por éste. Tampoco lo he empezado. Además, no sé qué pincel sería el mejor para aplicar este tipo de producto, así que se admiten sugerencias.

Let's go now with makeup. I bought the blush 'Flamingo' (Oh, my God! I love how it smells), which I have already used and I love it. It's the least chalky blusher I've ever tried. It gives a very healthy colour to the face. I apply it with the KIKO stippling brush I already showed you on another post.

After having read about the excellent qualities of mineral makeup, I wanted to try it, so I bought this one, in '02 Natural'. I haven't tried it yet, but as it's said to be very good for the summertime, because it absorbs skin oil, I will wait until then to use it.

And the last thing, the gel eyeliner. As Essence new features were not available in Berlin yet when we were there, I opted for this one. I haven't used it yet. Besides, I don't know what kind of brush would be best to apply this kind of product, so I'm open to suggestions.

¡Casi se me olvidaba! También compré (en este caso, compramos) cosas para el cuidado corporal. Las mantecas de Alverde, en sus dos tamaños, que ahora os voy a enseñar.

Oh! I almost forget! I also bought (well, actually, We bought) some body care stuff. Alverde body butter, (normal and travel size), that I'm showing you now.

En esta entrada os enseño también las compras que hizo mi hermana, porque sólo hay una cosa que compró ella y yo no, y es éste pincel para sombras. Además, compró también las dos mantecas y el contorno de ojos.

In this post you can also see the purchases my sister did. There was only one thing my sister bought but I didn't, and it was this eyeshadow brush. Apart from that, she purchased the two sizes of Alverde's body butter and the eye contour cream as well.

Bueno, esto ha sido todo por ahora. Ya me diréis qué os parece.

Nuestras compras de P2 en Berlin (parte 2) - Our P2 Berlin Haul (part 2)

Desde hace tiempo tenía pendiente hacer una entrada sobre mis compras de P2 en Berlín, pero siempre lo dejaba para después... En fin, yo y mis "tengo que...". Así que he decidido que ahora o nunca.

I didn't have enough time to write a post about my P2 Berlin Haul until now, I always put it off... Me and my 'have to's'. So I told myself it was now or never.

Algunas compras son comunes a las que hizo mi hermana de esta marca, y otras son productos de la misma línea, pero en distintos tonos.

Some of the things I bought are exactly the same as those my sister purchased, and other ones are from the same product range, but in different shades.

Mejor os voy poniendo la foto, y ahora os explico.

I'd better show you the photo, and then I'll explain what they are.


Empezamos con los productos de uñas que me he comprado.
Al igual que marox79, caí con los crackling top coat, en todos los tonos disponibles (al menos en ese momento); para mí producto revelación, sobre todo por la excelente relación calidad/precio. De ellos, el único que me falta por probar es el plateado, pero supongo que será tan bueno como los otros.
A continuación están el esmalte "So Cool!", del que no os puedo hablar todavía, porque no lo he probado, y también el "Base&Care Coat".

I'll start with all the nail stuff I bought.
Just like marox79 did, I bought the crackling top coat, in all the available colours (until now); a sensational product for me, especially for the excellent quality/price rate. The only one I haven't tried yet is the one in silver, but I guess it'll be as good as the others.
You can also see the 'So Cool!' nail polish, which I can't tell you about, because I haven't used it yet, as well as the 'Base&Care Coat'.

Seguimos con los labios.
Me compré el labial en el tono 040 Wall Street, que todavía no he probado, pero lo tengo pensado para mañana por la noche, que hay plan (espectáculo, de flamenco para ser exactos, y después cena con las compañeras, y después, no sé). Dice mi hermana, que ya estrenó el suyo, que es muy cremoso, más o menos como los labiales redondos de NYX, así que dará buen resultado.
También compré el "Color Star Lip Cream" en el tono 031 Romy Schneider (creo que en esta línea de productos todos tienen nombres de actrices). Este sí que lo he probado y he de decir que es fantástico: es formato gloss, pero no es nada pegajoso; al contrario, es muy cremoso y dura un montón puesto (aunque tengo la suerte de que a mí todos los labiales me duran un montón, aunque sean de mercadillo).

Next we have lip products.
I bought the lipstick in '040 Wall Street', which I haven't tried yet, though I'll be using it for the first time tomorrow evening (flamenco show, dinner with our instructor and classmates and who knows what else afterwards). My sister says that her P2 lipstick is very creamy, just as NYX round lipsticks, so I guess they will be good.
I also bought the 'Color Star Lip Cream' in the shade '031 Romy Schneider' (I think everything in this product range is named after famous actresses). I have already tried this one and I must say it's fantastic: it's like a gloss, but not sticky at all, it's very creamy and longlasting (though luckily all kinds of lipsticks, even the cheapest ones are longlasting for me).

Y por último, los ojos.
Para delinearlos me encantan los lápices automáticos, porque con los otros, o se rompía la punta al afilarlos, o me acababa pintando con la madera. Y como del que estoy usando ahora (uno de Mercadona) ya me queda poco, pues compré éste para reponer. Se llama "Perfect look! Kajal", en el tono 010 black, y es negro, negrísimo, pigmenta muy bien y es resistente al agua.
También compré el eyeliner líquido de la línea Beauty Insider, en el tono 010 Blackest Black; vamos, el negro más negro de todos los negros. Nunca he usado eyeliner, porque me daba un poco de respeto, a pesar de tener buen pulso, así que quería probar uno, pero sin gastarme un pastón. Todavía no lo he usado, así que no os puedo decir.

And lastly, the eye stuff.
I love automatic eyeliners, because with pencils either the tip breaks when you sharpen them or you end up painting yourself with the wood. I bought this from P2 because the one I'm using right now it's almost gone and I needed a replacement. It's called Perfect Look Kajal! in 010 Black and it's the blackest you can get, it's very pigmented and waterproof.
I also got the liquid eyeliner from the Beauty Insider range, the shade '010 Blackest Black' and it is truly black indeed. I've never used this kind of eyeliner because I was a bit wary, even though I have a steady hand so I wanted one without having to spend a fortune on it. I haven't used it yet, so I can't tell you how well it works.

Comer en Berlín - Eating out in Berlin

En otras entradas os he hablado de los lugares más interesantes de Berlín, tanto turísticos como para ir de compras y me pareció interesante dedicar otra entrada a 'dónde reponer fuerzas' después de tanta visita a museos y tantas compras.

In previous entries I've written about the most interesting places to visit in Berlin, both for sightseeing and shopping purposes and I thought it could be interesting to write another one on where to go to get your strength back after all those museums and retail therapy.

En muchos países, y a diferencia de España, la cena se considera la comida más importante del día. Alemania no es una excepción, si bien es posible encontrar sitios donde comer sin necesidad de adaptarnos al horario europeo.

In many countries, unlike in Spain, dinner is considered the most important meal during the day. Germany is no exception, though we can always find somewhere to eat without having to adapt ourselves to European mealtimes.

Nuestro primer día en Berlín lo dedicamos a ver los dos principales museos, el Pergammon y el Neues Museum. La mañana se nos fue visitando el primero y la tarde en el segundo, por lo que tomamos algo rápido para poder aprovechar el día al máximo. Vamos, que la comida fue 'trotera': probamos el famoso Currywurst en un mercadillo de antigüedades frente al BodeMuseum, en la Isla de los Museos.

Our first day in Berlin went by visiting the city's top two museums, the Pergammon and the Neues Museum. We spent all morning in the first one and did the second in the afternoon, so we had something quick for lunch to be able to do a lot in a short time. That is to say, our lunch was a bit 'on the go': we sampled the famous Currywurst in a flea market opposite the BodeMuseum, at the Museum Island.

El segundo día, domingo, visitamos el Palacio de Charlottenburg y como ibamos bien de tiempo, nos acercamos hasta el C.C. Postdamer Platz Arkaden, aunque evidentemente las tiendas estaban cerradas. Curioso que los alemanes, con lo listos que son, no se hayan dado cuenta de la oportunidad de negocio perdida. Como ya dije en otra entrada, en esa primera visita nos familiarizamos con el sitio y comimos allí, motivo por el que principalmente estoy escribiendo esta entrada.

The second day, Sunday, we visited the Charlottenburg Palace and as that didn't take as long as we expected we decided to go and check out the Postdamer Platz Shopping Centre despite the fact that all shops were closed. It's strange that Germans, wise as they are, have not realised that's a business opportunity lost there. Like I mentioned on a previous post, we used this first visit to acquaint ourselves with the place as well as having lunch, the main reason for me to be writing this.

El lugar escogido ese primer día en el PPA fue el restaurante Pomme de Terre (Patata, en francés), un nombre no escogido al azar, ya que muchos de los platos que ofrecen incluyen este ingrediente. Mi hermana tenía ganas de 'comer de cuchara' así que de primero, nos pedimos una crema de verduras, muy especiada pero muy rica. Teníamos tanta hambre que ni foto hicimos, jeje.

The chosen place that first day at the PPA Mall was the Pomme de Terre (French for 'potato') restaurant, a name not chosen at random since that's the restaurant staple ingredient. My sister felt like having 'soups and stews' of some sort, so we both ordered a cream of vegetable soup, flavoured with lots of spices but delicious anyway. We were so hungry we didn't even take a picture nor wrote the name, hehe.

De segundo, mi hermana se pidió un 'Wiener Schnitzel' que no es otra cosa más que el filete empanado de toda la vida, eso sí, de tamaño alemán, osea, enooormee. Como su propio nombre indica, no es un plato berlinés sino vienés pero se puede encontrar fácilmente en cualquier lugar de habla alemana o Europa central. Se suele servir acompañado de... ¡premio: patatas! En concreto, con la típica ensalada de patata alemana.



For main course, my sister ordered a 'Wiener Schnitzel' which is nothing more than your everyday escalope coated in breadcrumbs and fried. The only difference is the size, it's German-sized, meaning, BIG. As its name suggests, it's not typical of Berlin but Vienna and can be easily found anywhere in German-speaking countries and Central Europe in general. It's usually served garnished with... Jackpot!: Potatoes; Well, a typical German potato salad or Kartoffelnsalat, to be honest.

Esto fue lo que yo me pedí: 'Vier hausgemacht Kartoffelpuffer mit Gravedlachs und Dill-honig-Senfsauce'. Os dejo que bebáis algo para recuperar el aliento después de soltaros el nombre del platito. Bueno, pues son una especie de rellenos/hamburguesas de patata asada y luego fritos, muy ricos, servidos con varias lonchas de salmón ahumado y salsa de mostaza y miel. No pude con todo, había suficiente como para probar mi hermana y para que sobrara.
Mi profe de alemán estaría orgullosa de mí: Lo pedí todo en alemán, añadiendo nuestra ya habitual advertencia de 'mi hermana es alérgica a cualquier tipo de seta, champiñón y similares'. No veáis qué show cuando viajamos fuera: es lo primero que tenemos que averiguar cómo se dice, si no queremos que mi hermana esté horas después abrazada a la taza del váter.
En favor de los alemanes, hay que decir que el tema de las alergias se lo toman en serio, no como en la República Checa, pero de eso quizá os hablemos más adelante.



This is what I ordered: 'Vier hausgemacht Kartoffelpuffer mit Gravedlachs und Dill-honig-Senfsauce'. You can now take a deep breath and take a sip after such looong tirade. These were like baked-potato hamburgers, fried with several smoked salmon slices served with a mustard and honey sauce. Totally yummy. I couldn't scoff the lot, my sister tried some of it and there was some of it still left. My German teacher would be proud of me: I ordered everything in German, even added our everpresent warning: 'My sister is allergic to any kind of mushroom'. You can't imagine what a show that is, it's actually the first thing we must know how to say when travelling abroad, otherwise my sister may be hugging the toilet seat for dear life in three hours' time. Truth be told, Germans take food allergies seriously, unlike in the Czech Republic, but we may leave that for another post.

Después de una pequeña sobremesa, nos tomamos el primer helado del año en una heladería italiana del centro comercial. Eso sí, en tarrina, no cucurucho, que eso luego da más sed.

After a short after-lunch chat we had the first ice-cream of the year at an Italian Gelatteria within the complex. Always in a cup/tub, never in a cornet (it makes you thirstier later).

En nuestro segundo día en el Postdamer Platz Arkaden, esta vez dedicado a dejar temblando las estanterías de Ihr Platz, DM y similares comimos en otro de los restaurantes, el Wiener Café, situado justo enfrente del anterior.
El plato principal que podemos comer son las quiches, una especie de tartaleta con masa quebrada y rellena principalmente de verduras y una mezcla de leche o nata y huevos.

On our second day at the Postdamer Platz Arkaden, this time emptying the shelves off Ihr Platz, DM and the like being the only thoughts in our minds we chose a different restaurant for lunch, the Wiener Café, located right across the other one.
The main specialty are quiches, an oven-baked dish made with eggs and milk or cream in a pastry crust, a savoury pie, so to speak. They're usually filled with vegetables.

Yo pedí una porción de quiche vegetariana, con espinacas y mi hermana pidió una de patata y atún. Estando en Alemania, tierra cervecera por excelencia, acompañamos nuestra comida de una cerveza de trigo.



I ordered a piece of vegan quiche with spinach, while my sister had a potato and tuna one. Being in Germany, a beer-drinking nation, we decided to accompany this delicious lunch with some wheat beer.



Y de postre... una porción de Sacher Torte. Mira que no me gusta el chocolate en los postres, pero esta tarta está riquísima. *Lecker!*
Era curioso vernos a nosotras pegándonos esta comilona y los alemanes tomándose un café y tarta, jeje.

And for dessert... a piece of Sacher Torte. I'm not very fond of chocolate in desserts, but this cake is definitely yummy. *Lecker!*
It was strange for us to be having a feast while Germans were just having a cup of coffee and a piece of cake, hehe!


El precio en ambos sitios no llegó a los 30€ las dos. Un precio más que razonable. / We paid a little less than €30 in both places -for the two of us. A very reasonable price indeed.

En cuanto a las cenas, como nos pasábamos el día de un lado a otro recorriendo museos, monumentos y tiendas, comprábamos algún bocadillo en los puestos que hay en las estaciones de metro, macedonia de fruta y yogur y montábamos un 'picnic' en la habitación. ¿Recordáis la estupenda mesa baja de nuestra habitación?




As for dinners, since we spent all day going all over Berlin visiting museums, sightseeing and shopping we used to get a bagel/sub, a fruit salad and some yoghurt to take away from the stalls you can find on any underground station and had a picnic in our hotel room. Do you remember the nice coffee table we had there?

De compras por Berlin (Parte 4) - Haulin' in Berlin (Part 4)

De compras por Berlín (IV) - Haulin' in Berlin (IV) : Müller

De nuevo os traigo un recorrido virtual por otra de las cadenas de droguerías alemanas, en este caso Müller. Dispone de tiendas en Alemania, Austria, Suiza, Hungría, Croacia e incluso en España. De hecho el enlace alemán te remite a la página española puesto que tienen varias tiendas aquí, concretamente en Mallorca. Es posible que la disponibilidad de productos varíe según el país, pero en el folleto virtual que podéis consultar sí que tienen productos de por ejemplo, Manhattan y Catrice.

Como ya comenté en otra entrada, tan sólo nos topamos con una en Berlín, en la estación de Postdamer Platz.

I'm back with another virtual tour of the German drugstores, today I'll be writing about Müller. They have stores not only in Germany, but also in Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Croatia and even Spain. In fact, the German site if you're in Spain automatically redirects you to their Spanish site as they have several stores in Majorca. The availability of products may vary depending on location but the virtual brochure you can browse through does include brands like Manhattan and Catrice, for instance. I already mentioned in another post that we only found one store in Berlin, at the Postdamer Platz station.


En concreto en esta tienda tenían el stand de maquillaje de Essence y de esmaltes de uñas de Catrice, entre otras cosas. Mi esmalte de Catrice '280 London's Weather Forecast' que ya había dejado por imposible lo compré aquí. En la caja, había una cesta con productos rebajados y mi hermana aprovechó para llevarse otro esmalte de Catrice, el '110 Poison Me, Poison You'.

This store had the Essence make-up display as well as a nail polish display from Catrice among others. I bought one of my Catrice nail lacquers, my London's Weather Forecast here, when I had almost given up any hopes of finding it. At the checkout there was this small basket of goodies with a reduced price and my sister grabbed her 'Poison Me, Poison You' by Catrice.

En cuanto a Essence, tenían la colección 'My Skin' y la 'Better than gel nails' que también vimos en otras tiendas, pero ninguno de los productos nuevos del mueble.



As for Essence, they had both the 'My Skin' and 'Better than gel nails' that we found in other stores, but again none of the products from the new range.

De compras por Berlin (Parte 3) - Haulin' in Berlin (Part 3)

De compras por Berlin (III) - Haulin' in Berlin (III): Rossmann

Hoy le toca el turno a otra cadena de droguerías alemanas, Rossmann, que también ofrece maquillaje y productos de higiene a un precio ridículo, casi más barata que las que he mencionado hasta ahora. Compramos tanto en la tienda de Friedrichstraße, 147 como en la de Grunerstraße. Enfrente de la de Friedrichstrasse hay un Lush, ya os enseñaremos alguna foto también.

On my virtual tour of the most popular German drugstores, today it's Rossmann's turn. It also offers make-up and toiletries at ridiculously inexpensive prices, even lower than the other stores. Our haul came from both the Friedrichstraße 147 and the Grunerstraße stores. There's a Lush right across the Friedrichstrasse one and we took some undercover pics there as well. ;)

Además de Essence y Manhattan, el principal reclamo en cuanto a maquillaje son sus dos marcas: Rival de Loop y Rival de Loop Young. Por desgracia, ahora que estoy revisando nuestras fotos veo que ni mi hermana ni yo hicimos ninguna de los stand, por lo que os dejo un enlace a Innen und Aussen, y así véis qué pinta tienen.

Apart from Essence and Manhattan, the main appeal as far as make-up is concerned is its two brands: Rival de Loop and Rival de Loop Young. Sadly now that I'm checking the folders of our pictures, none of us took any shots of their stands, so I'll copy a link to Innen und Aussen, where you can get an idea of what they look like.

Rival de Loop tiene un colorido más clásico y ponible, mientras que la versión Young ofrece unos colores no aptos para poco atrevidas: hay esmaltes amarillo fosforito, como el de los rotuladores señalizadores que todas hemos usado para tomar apuntes en clase.
El único producto que compré de RdL fue un precioso esmalte que os enseñaré próximamente. De RdLY se vino conmigo su famosísima prebase de ojos, un producto imprescindible y que en palabras de Subflava 'tenéis que comprar sí o sí, aunque esté 'chuacheada' por alguna alemana'. La mía estaba intacta.
Ahora viene lo mejor: el precio. Tanto el esmalte como la prebase me costaron 1,99 €. Sí, habéis leído bien: UN EURO CON NOVENTA Y NUEVE CÉNTIMOS. En el esmalte quizá no llama mucho la atención, pero mi prebase de Artdeco -y es de las más baratas que podemos encontrar en España - me costó unos 8 €.




Rival de Loop offers more classic and wearable colours, whereas the Young version has bold shades for daring people: there are bright 'fluorescent' yellow nail polishes, the same colour of those highlighter pens you probably used at school when taking notes.
The only product from RdL I purchased was a gorgeous nail polish I'll show very soon. From RdLY I bought the much hyped eyeshadow base, a must-have product that quoting Subflava 'you have to buy regardless of being swatched already by some German lady'. Mine was untouched.
I've left the best for the end: the price. Both nail polish and eyeshadow base retailed at € 1.99. Yeah, you read right: ONE EURO NINETY NINE CENTS.
For a nailpolish maybe that doesn't sound so surprising, but for an eyeshadow primer is. I paid about € 8 for my Artdeco one, which is probably the cheapest one on sale here.

Si en DM encontrábamos la marca de cosmética natural Alverde, en Rossmann tenemos Alterra. Mi hermana sí que compró algo, supongo que ya os lo enseñará.





Just like DM had a natural range of cosmetics, Alverde, Rossmann have their own line, Alterra. My sister did buy something, so I guess she'll be sharing that with you soon.



Aparte de maquillaje, allí compré por ejemplo las semillas de amapola que utilicé en el bizcocho de manzana que os enseñé hace poco. También compramos algunos productos en tamaño viaje y jabones, todo super barato.
Nos llamó la atención el desodorante de piedra de alumbre, tirado de precio, como dos euros. Por el nuestro pagamos en el herbolario 7,85 €.

Other than make-up, I bought the poppy seeds I used to make the Fruit cake I shared with you recently. We also got some travel-sized products and soaps, and they were a steal too. Bargain alert: they had natural salt crystal deodorants, dirt cheap, about € 2. We paid € 7.85 for ours here.

Curiosamente, en España las perfumerías Marionnaud tienen productos de la marca Isana (geles, cremas y así), que se vende en Rossmann. Incluso lo pone en las etiquetas. No estaría mal que trajeran RdL.

Strangely enough, the Spanish drugstore Marionnaud sells some Isana products -which is a Rossmann brand- such as shower gels, creams and the like, and it even says so on the labels. It would be nice if they started carrying RdL, wouldn' it?

De compras por Berlín (II) - Haulin' in Berlin (II): Ihr Platz

Hace unos días os hice un recorrido virtual por la cadena de droguerías alemanas DM y hoy haré lo propio con Ihr Platz. En Berlín tan sólo encontramos un Ihr Platz en nuestro camino, dentro del CC Postdamer Platz Arkaden. El primer día que estuvimos allí era domingo, por lo que las tiendas estaban cerradas, pero nos sirvió para localizar las que nos interesaban. Eso sí, no nos dió tiempo a recorrer todas las que había, por ejemplo yo me quedé con ganas de entrar en Vero Moda, que por estos lares no hay y me gusta la ropa que tiene.
También comimos allí dos días, muy bien por cierto, pero de eso ya hablaremos en otro post.
Nos dejamos entre las dos 20,13 €. Si queréis visitar el lugar del crimen, seguid leyendo.

A few days ago I took you on a virtual tour inside one of Germany's most popular drugstores, DM and today it's Ihr Platz's turn. We only found one in our way, the one at the Postdamer Platz mall. The first day we went there was Sunday and therefore all the shops were closed, but we walked through the place and located the stores that interested us the most. However, we didn't have time to visit them all. I would have liked to take a look at Vero Moda's clothing, which I really like but unfortunately there are no stores near here. We also had lunch there twice, very well btw, but we'll leave that for later. At €20.13, we did a little bit of damage. If you want to visit the crime scene, just keep on reading.




El principal atractivo de esta droguería para nosotros era la posibilidad de tener enfrente por primera vez un stand completo de Catrice, marca también alemana y 'hermana mayor' de Essence. Lamentablemente, aún no habían llegado las novedades previstas para marzo de 2011 y eso, unido a la discontinuación, había dejado el stand un poco desangelado. A pesar de todo, pudimos hacernos con algunas de las cosas que queríamos.



The main appeal this drugstore had for us was the chance to be face-to-face and for the first time with the full Catrice display, Essence's big sister. Too bad the new releases scheduled for March 2011 had not arrived yet and that, together with the discontinuation of some products had left the shelves looking a bit 'dull', so to speak. But that wasn't enough to stop us and we could still get some of the stuff we wanted.





Como podéis ver a continuación, había varias EL coincidiendo a la vez. Tanto mi hermana como yo nos llevamos las brochitas de sombras de la Enter Wonderland. De la otra no compramos nada, aunque ahora viendo las fotos me arrepiento un poco, jeje.



As you can tell from the pictures below, there were several LE at the same time in the shelves. Both my sister and I bought the small eyeshadow brushes from the Enter Wonderland LE. We didn't get anything from the other one, though now that I'm uploading these pics I regret not buying more, LOL.



En este Ihr Platz encontramos también stand doble de Essence, ya que tenían tanto el de maquillaje como el de tratamiento. Eso sí, sin las novedades como ya digo.




We also found a double Essence display, with both the make-up and the care line. Without the new releases, though.




En el otro post, os hablé de la linea de maquillaje de Nivea, disponible en muy pocos países. Pues aquí podéis ver el stand. De precio, acostumbradas ya a marcas como Essence me pareció cara, pero es comparable a lo que pagamos aquí en Europa por L'Oreal o Max Factor.




In my other post I mentioned the make-up line from Nivea, available in just a few countries. Well, you can see what it looks like here. In terms of price, now that we're used to brands like Essence it seemed expensive though it's comparable to L'Oreal or Max Factor (European prices, though).

Otra marca, también alemana que encontramos en Ihr Platz es Manhattan. Puede que alguna la conozcáis, ya que se vende en España, pero no está ni mucho menos tan extendida como Essence. Tenían algunas cosas interesantes, pero nada me llamó especialmente la atención. Mi hermana sí que compró algo de esta marca, pero en Rossmann. En cuanto a precio, yo diría que similar a Catrice.



Another German brand available in Ihr Platz is Manhattan. Some of you may be familiar with it as it's sold in Spain for instance, though it's nowhere near as popular or ready available as Essence. It looked nice though nothing really caught my eye. My sister did buy something from this brand, though at a Rossmann drugstore. Pricewise, it's similar to Catrice.

También encontramos MaxFactor, bien conocida en España, aunque no me suena haber visto esas minilacas por aquí. Mira si en otras ciudades, no sé.



We can also find MaxFactor, a well-known brand for us Spaniards though I don't think I've seen those minis here. I could be wrong and maybe you can find them in bigger cities, dunno.

Aparte de maquillaje, podemos encontrar muchas más cosas en Ihr Platz, pero algo que nos llamó la atención fue encontrar productos que en España se venden en Schlecker de marcas como Rilanja, As, etc. Por lo visto, estas dos empresas tienen un acuerdo de colaboración o algo así. Sus productos están tirados de precio: jabones, cremas, desodorantes, productos de tamaño viaje.



Apart from the make-up there's much more on offer at Ihr Platz, but there was something surprising for us and it was finding products that in Spain are only sold at Schlecker there. The brands are Rilanja and As, to name a few and their products -soaps, creams, deodorants and travel-size toiletries are dirt cheap too. Apparently these two companies have an agreement of some sort.

Hoy os traigo un recorrido virtual por una de las droguerías más famosas de Alemania, DM, al más puro estilo James Bond. El primer día no calculé bien y sumado al frío, me quedé sin batería antes de lo que yo esperaba, por lo que la mayoría de las fotos las hizo mi hermana con su cámara, que no es precisamente tamaño espía.
El resto de los días espabilé y fui bien provista de pilas para poder "afotar" todo, jeje.

Today I have prepared for you a virtual tour of one the most popular German drugstores, DM, with lots of undercover pictures not even a world-class spy like James Bond could equal. I underestimated my camera use and the life of my batteries on my first day and that coupled with the cold left me without a working camera earlier than expected, so most of the photos that follow had to be taken by my sis with her camera, which let's face it, it's far from being compact in size as befitting a spy.
I wised up and went well prepared the rest of the days, ;)








Ya me habían advertido que la visita a un DM llevaba tiempo y es cierto. Literalmente te pierdes con la cantidad de productos que hay allí, la sección de productos de tamaño viaje me dejó boquiabierta. Lo único que me confundió un poco fue la distribución de ciertos productos: el tamaño viaje de un mismo producto no está al lado del de tamaño normal, por ejemplo; las cremas de Essence estaban en estantes normales y no junto al mueble.

I'd been pre-warned about the fact that a visit to a DM store was time consuming and indeed it was, especially if it's your first. Quite literally, you get lost and dizzy at the sight of the range of products to be found there, the travel-size aisle left me totally speechless. The only thing I found a bit confusing was the arrangement of certain products in the store: the travel size and the regular size version of the same product are not close to one another, for instance; the Essence creams were in shelves and not next to the makeup display...

Encontramos una gran variedad de marcas, algunas conocidas en España como nuestra Astor, Max Factor y nuestra adorada Essence, pero incluso dentro de esas, la gama que encontramos a nuestra disposición yo diría que es incluso mayor. Recuerdo unos esmaltes de colores neón en el stand de Astor y unas minilacas de uñas en el de Max Factor que no me suena haber visto en España. Tampoco tenemos en España la marca MNY, perteneciente al grupo Maybelline y orientada a un público más joven, de mucho colorido y con precios similares a Essence.
Lo mismo sucede con la italiana Debby, del grupo Deborah. De esta marca, tan sólo vimos una pequeña colección -yo diría que era una EL- en uno de los DM que visitamos. De precio, similar a Catrice, aunque creo que los esmaltes eran más caros.
Otras marcas como Esprit, la línea de maquillaje de Nivea, la línea de cuidado y cosmética natural del DM, Alverde o la superventas P2 son imposibles de encontrar fuera de Alemania y de sus países vecinos.









The variety of brands available was like out of this world. Some of them are well known to us, like the Spanish Astor and the more international ones like Max Factor or our beloved Essence. However, when looking at the makeup displays of these brands I dare say the range of products available there is even larger than what we have here in Spain. I recall seeing some Astor polishes in bright neon colours I'd never seen before over here and the same goes for the mini MaxFactor ones -I have no recollection of ever coming across them in our stores.
There's also the brand MNY, a division of Maybelline with a make-up line aimed at a younger audience and in the same price range as Essence. The same goes for the Italian Debby, a younger version of Deborah, though we only found that at one DM. It was most likely a LE, the one you can see in the photo. It's in the Catrice price range, though I think the polishes were more expensive.
And then we have other brands like Esprit or the store's best seller and own brand P2 as well as DM's natural care and make-up line Alverde, which are impossible to find outside of Germany and neighbouring countries.




Sin embargo, las marcas que no vimos por ninguna parte son algunas de las que encontramos aquí: Maybelline, Bourjois, Deborah, Rimmel, etc.

However, the brands we did not find were the ones we usually have in Spanish drugstores: Maybelline, Bourjois, Deborah, Rimmel, and so on.

La disponibilidad de productos varía según la tienda: en algunas pasa como en España, que parece que acabara de pasar el caballo de Atila, mientras que otras estarán más surtidas.

Product availability varies depending on the store: some may be 'polished off', as if raided by Attila's troops like in Spain while others may be well stocked.




No sólo tiene maquillaje, por ejemplo, la sección de almacenaje me pareció muy interesante. Había organizadores con usos múltiples, por ejemplo para tener los labiales que más usamos a mano.

But there's more than just makeup at DM, the storage displays were very interesting with lots of storage ideas and multiple purposes for them, like keeping the lipsticks we use the most handy and neatly arranged.




Creo que todas las fotos que incluyo pertenecen al DM, espero que no se me cuele ninguna de otra tienda por error. Si es así, mis disculpas.

I hope all the uploaded pics belong to DM, it's hard to remember exactly a few weeks after the fact. My apologies if for some reason some of them are not.

Nuestros esmaltes de Catrice (Parte 2) / Our Catrice nail polishes (Part 2)

Hoy me toca a mí enseñaros los esmaltes de Catrice que se vinieron conmigo desde Berlín. La verdad es que, a diferencia de mi hermana, sí que tenía una clara idea de que los esmaltes de esta marca que tenía apuntados en mi wishlist terminarían en la cesta de la compra. El único esmalte que había pensado comprar y llegado el momento me pareció demasiado similar a otro que ya tenía fue el tono 330 Absolutely Chinchilly.

Now it's my turn to show the Catrice nail polishes that came all the way from Berlin with me. The truth is that, unlike my sister, I did have a clear idea that the polishes from this brand that had made it to my wishlist would end up in my shopping basket. Indeed they did, except for the shade 330 Absolutely Chinchilly that once in the store looked too similar to another one I already owned.

Aunque la verdad sea dicha, de haber llegado a Berlín cuando estuvimos los nuevos productos, el gasto habría sido mucho mayor. Confío en que las perfumerías Douglas que hay en España se animen a traer Catrice o quizá los termine vendiendo maquillalia a través de su página web, como ya hizo con Essence. Será la única manera, probablemente, de hacerme con el nuevo esmalte holográfico 'Iron Mermaiden' de Catrice, a no ser que hagamos una excursión al Beautik más cercano, que está a unos 200 km de aquí.

Truth be said, had the new products been available in the shelves in Berlin when we were there the damage to my budget would have been a lot worse. I keep my fingers crossed and hope for Douglas drugstores in Spain to take the plunge and bring Catrice, or for maquillalia to start selling this brand on their website, just like they did with its younger sister brand, Essence. It will probably be the only way I can get hold of -for instance- the new holographic polish from Catrice, Iron Mermaiden, unless we drive to the nearest Beautik store, about 200 kms from here.

Bueno, pues éstos fueron los afortunados en venirse a casa conmigo. Os dejo una foto y detalles de dónde los compré y precios.

Anyway, these were the lucky ones that came home with me. I'll leave you a picture and details on where we got them, prices and so on.

*150 Big Spender Wanted: Un tono rosa frambuesa con reflejos dorados. Es uno de los tonos que retiran, una lástima. Lo compré en el Ihr Platz del C.C. Postdamer Platz Arkaden y Ihr Platz es, por cierto, la única cadena que tiene el stand completo de Catrice, no sólo los esmaltes y las EL. Me costó 1.45 €

*150 Big Spender Wanted: A raspberry pink with golden shimmer. Very beautiful and unfortunately one of the shades that are being discontinued. I got this from the Ihr Platz store at the Postdamer Platz Arkaden Mall. Ihr Platz is the only store that has the entire Catrice display, not only the nail polishes or the LE. It cost € 1.45.

*280 London's Weather Forecast: Un bonito esmalte gris azulado. Es el único que he estrenado de momento. Se aplica casi solo, había oído que los esmaltes de Catrice tenían una aplicación fabulosa y al menos para mí con este tono, ha resultado cierto. Cuando ya creía que no podría hacerme con él, encontramos un Müller y me llevé el último que quedaba. El precio: 2.49 €
Pensaba incluirlo en esta entrada, pero creo que mejor le dedico una entrada aparte.

*280 London's Weather Forecast: A nice grey-blueish polish. It's the only one I've used so far. It almost applied all on its own, without any input from me. I'd heard that Catrice polishes applied like a dream and at least in my case and with this shade in particular, I absolutely agree. When I was almost reconciled to the fact that I was not going to find it, we found a Müller drugstore and got the last one in the store. Retail price is: € 2.49
I intended to include it in this entry, but I'd better have a separate entry for it.

*230 Clay-ton my Hero: Es un tono topo clarito, con brillitos dorados. Era 'EL' esmalte que tenía que comprar sí o sí, y al igual que con el anterior, si me descuido no lo encuentro. Menos mal que encontramos un stand de esmaltes de Catrice en el Douglas del CC Postdamer Platz Arkaden con un montón de ellos. Lo único malo es que lo pagué al precio normal y no al que correspondería por ser un producto que iba a desaparecer. Precio: 2.49 €
La dependienta de la caja fue muy amable, incluso nos obsequió dos muestras de Flower By Kenzo, que encima es uno de mis perfumes favoritos. ¡Y fue lo único que compramos! Igualito que en España, que casi tenemos que 'mendigar' para que nos den una muestra.

*230 Clay-ton my Hero: It's a light taupe colour with golden shimmer. It was 'THE' polish that I knew I had to buy no matter what, and just like the previous one proved to be very hard to find. It's just as well we found a Catrice nailpolish display at the Douglas perfumery in the Postdamer Platz Arkaden shopping centre, overflowing with Claytons! The only downside was that I had to pay full price for it, instead of the discounted one all the soon-to-be discontinued products have. Price: € 2.49
The cashier was very nice and she even gave us a couple of samples of Flower by Kenzo, which turns out to be one of my favourite perfumes. And it was the only thing we bought! Just like in Spain, where we almost have to 'beg' for samples.

Cada vez que entrábamos en una droguería en Berlín, sacábamos la lista de la compra, y buscábamos en el mueble aquellos esmaltes que retiraban (y que estaban rebajados) y que más nos llamaban la atención en ese momento. Pero a la hora de la verdad, nos hemos dejado llevar más por nuestros ojos para elegir los colores.

Every time we went into a drugstore in Berlin, we took out our shopping list and looked for those nail polishes that were going to be discontinued -and had a discount- and also those which caught our eye. But eventually, we ended up trusting our eyes more when making the final selection.

Estos que vais a ver fueron los que más me gustaron. Os dejo una foto y os cuento también dónde los compré y su precio.

The following polishes were the ones I liked best. I include a picture and details about where I bought them and their prices.

El Wine-tastic lo compré en Ihr Platz, en el C.C. Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, y me costó 1.45€.
Es un tono tan oscuro que casi parece negro. Con la luz de la tienda parecía un rojo vino intenso, pero me gusta igualmente.

I got Wine-Tastic from Ihr Platz at the Postdamer Platz Arkaden shopping centre and paid € 1.45 for it. It's so dark it looks almost black. Under the store's lights the colour appeared to be a very dark wine red, but I like it all the same.

El Poison Me, Poison You lo compré en el único Müller que vimos en Berlín, dentro de una estación de metro (ya no recuerdo cuál), y me costó también 1.45€.

I bought Poison Me, Poison You from the only Müller drugstore we found in Berlin, inside an underground station whose name I can't recall, and paid € 1.45 as well.

El Lost In Mud también lo compré en Ihr Platz, que por cierto, es la única tienda que tiene el mueble completo de Catrice -no sólo los esmaltes o las Ediciones Limitadas; eso sí, aún no habían recibido las novedades. Me costó 2.49€. Este es el único que he estrenado hasta la fecha.

I also got Lost In Mud from Ihr Platz which, by the way, is the only shop that has the full Catrice display -not only the nailpolishes or the Limited Editions; though they had not received the new products yet. It cost € 2.49 and it's the only one I've used so far.

Guía de Viaje de Berlín (Parte 2) - Berlin Travel Guide (Part 2)

Después de visitar tantos museos en la primera parte de esta Guía de Viaje de Berlín, ahora toca que nos dé un poco el aire, así que en esta vamos a visitar las principales atracciones de la ciudad de Berlín a pie de calle. En nuestro caso, decidimos completar la visita de ciertos museos con los monumentos que se encontraban en dicha zona.

After spending so much time inside museums on the first part of this Berlin Travel Guide, it's time to get some fresh air and visit the city's main attractions and do some sightseeing at street-level. In our case, we tried to schedule the visit of certain museums with the monuments in that particular area.

¿Dónde estabas cuando cayó el muro (de Berlín) / Where were you when the Berlin Wall fell?

El primer día visitamos la Puerta de Brandenburgo, símbolo de la división de la ciudad, del país y del mundo durante la Guerra Fría y hoy de la reunificación alemana. Es la única puerta que se conserva de las 18 que antaño poseía la ciudad. En la parte superior, esta construcción inspirada en la Acrópolis de Atenas está coronada por la escultura de La Cuádriga, que representa a la diosa alada Victoria conduciendo un carro de batalla tirado por caballos. Aquí se reunen los berlineses para celebrar la Nochevieja y otros actos multitudinarios. La estación más próxima es 'Unter den Linden' y de camino a la Puerta, se pasa por una perfumería Douglas de dos pisos que me quedé con ganas de visitar.

We visited the Brandenburg Gate on our first day. It was the symbol of the division of the city/country/the world during the Cold War and today symbolises the reunification. It is the only remaining gate of the 18 that the city of Berlin once possessed. The construction, inspired by the Acropolis in Athens is crowned by the Quadriga, a chariot drawn by horses abreast and representing the winged goddess of Victory. This is the place where Berliners celebrate New Year's Eve and other mass gatherings. The closest station is 'Unter den Linden' and on the way to the Gate we walked past a two-storey Douglas drugstore I wanted to visit but couldn't.

Otro lugar de visita obligada es la East Side Gallery, un fragmento de 1,3 km de longitud del Muro de Berlín, a lo largo de Mühlenstrasse hoy cubierto por unos cien coloridos murales formando una de las galerías de arte al aire libre más importantes del mundo. Y como el mundo es un pañuelo, paseando por allí me encontré a una alumna que también estaba visitando la ciudad. Durante el paseo por el muro os toparéis con el estadio 02 World.
Las estaciones de metro más próximas son Ostbahnhof o Warschauer Strasse.



Another must-see is the East Side Gallery, a 1.3 km long section of the Berlin Wall located on Mühlenstrasse, now covered by approximately a hundred wall paintings and probably making it the largest open-air gallery in the world. And because it's a small world, while walking along The Wall I bumped into one of my students who was visiting Berlin as well. During the walk you'll see the O2 World stadium too. Closest tube stations are either Ostbahnhof or Warschauer Strasse.

Nuestra próxima parada es el Checkpoint Charlie, el acceso principal entre los dos Berlines desde 1960 a 1990 para los aliados, extranjeros y diplomáticos. Es un reclamo turístico, con actores vestidos de uniforme que posan frente a una réplica de la caseta militar. Existe un museo, el Haus am Checkpoint Charlie que no visitamos y que muestra, entre otras cosas, los curiosos métodos que ingeniaba la gente para pasar al sector occidental. El metro más cercano es Kochstrasse.



Our next stop is Checkpoint Charlie, the crossing point between the two Berlins from 1960 to 1990 for diplomats, embassy members and the allies. It's nothing but a lure for tourists, with actors wearing uniforms and posing in front of a replica of the original checkpoint. There is a museum, the Haus am Checkpoint Charlie which we did not vist and that shows, among other things, the odd methods devised by the locals to make it to the western side. The closest tube station is Kochstrasse.

Nuestra última parada fue el edificio del Reichstag, cuando ya había anochecido. Aunque Berlín es una ciudad muy segura y esa zona está muy vigilada, estaba como boca de lobo y nos sacamos una foto con el edificio de fondo a la velocidad del rayo. A esa hora en España la gente empieza a salir y es cuando empieza a verse más movimiento. ;)



Our last stop was the Reichstag building, after nightfall. Although Berlin is a very safe city to visit and this area in particular is closely watched and guarded the place was pitch black and we took a super quick photograph with the building in the background. At that time of the day in Spain is when people go out and you can see a little bit of action. ;)

Algunos consejos:

*Llevar zapatos cómodos, que no resbalen con la lluvia.
*Si viajáis en esta fecha, ir bien abrigados, aunque sea con varias capas de ropa que podáis iros quitando si tenéis calor. A ver, que Berlín no es el polo norte, pero es mejor llevar ropa calentita que traeros luego un catarrazo de recuerdo.
*En los museos suele haber un guardarropa en el que dejar vuestro abrigo y mochila, sin pagar.

¿A alguien más le parecen rarísimos los edredones que usan los alemanes? Por el contrario, a ellos le resultan rarísimas nuestras sábanas y mantas. ;)

A word of advice:
*Make sure you have a pair of comfy, non-slippery shoes.
*If you're travelling at this time of year, make sure you put on thick, warm clothes, even though you have to wear several layers of clothing you can later remove if you want to. Don't get me wrong, Berlin is not the North Pole but it's better having some warm clothes on you than bringing home an unwanted cold.
*Museums have a cloakroom for you to leave your coat and backpack, free of charge.

Does anyone else find German duvets strange? On the other hand, THEY find our sheets and blankets really strange, LOL.
