Marox me ha dado una gran idea para variar un poco el contenido de las entradas que publicamos.
Así que yo también he decidido compartir con vosotros algunos de mis canales de You Tube favoritos.

1- *Mimodemami*.
Esta mujer es polifacética.
Lo mismo convierte unos vaqueros en falda que te da una estupenda receta para hacer yogures sin yogurtera, o coge el taladro percutor y se pone a hacer agujeros en la pared en plan Bricomanía.
Algunos de sus trucos los he seguido y después los he compartido aquí, así que yo creo que merece la pena que le echéis un vistazo a su canal.

2- *Coser fácil y más Menudo Numerito*.
Me encantan sus tutoriales de costura, sobre todo la guía de prensatelas: tipos, cómo utilizarlos...
Se ve que es muy perfeccionista en sus trabajos, tanto los proyectos de costura como los vídeos de su canal.

3- *Hanan Beauty*.
Es la sencillez personificada.
Hace remedios naturales y su propia cosmética con productos que, en la mayoría de los casos, todos tenemos en casa.

4- *Ariana Bonita*.
Esta coreana comparte sus secretos para una piel perfecta... y en perfecto castellano.
Ha sido un descubrimiento reciente, pero muy recomendable.

5- *Cream Heroes*.
Siempre se dice que los vídeos más vistos son los de gatos, y este canal es una buena muestra, pues tiene muchos suscriptores.
No sé cómo se las apaña esta japonesa con sus 7 gatos.
Un canal recomendado para los amantes de estos peluditos (como nosotras).

That's why I've decided to share with you some of my favourite YouTube channels too, which are mostly in Spanish.

1 - *Mimodemami*: This woman is a Jill-of-all-trades. She can do anything from turning a pair of jeans into a denim skirt, to making yoghourt without a yoghourt maker or gets the drill and makes holes in the wall like a DIY-network host.
I've put some of her tricks into practice and shared them with you here, so I think it's only just fair to check her channel out.

2 - *Coser fácil y más Menudo Numerito*: I love her sewing tutorials, specially her presser foot guide: the different types, how to use them, etc.
It seems she's a perfectionist in everything she does, both her sewing projects and her videos.

3 - *Hanan Beauty*: She embodies simplicity. She makes home remedies and her own skincare mostly with stuff we already have in our home.

4 - *Ariana Bonita*: This Korean young lady shares her secrets to beautiful, perfect skin... in perfect Spanish. She's been a recent discovery that I can't help but recommend.

5 - *Cream Heroes*: They always say that cat videos get the most views and this channel is the perfect example of that, as it has many subscribers.
I don't know how this Japanese lady can keep 7 cats.
If you like furry, purring creatures as much as we do, you'll certainly enjoy this channel.

Hoy traigo una entrada diferente. Me apetecía compartir con todos vosotros algunos canales de YouTube que merece la pena conocer, no sólo dedicados al mundo de la belleza.

1 - *Gothamista*: Renée es una neoyorkina con un apartamento envidiable, una colección de cosméticos envidiable y un gran conocimiento de los mejores ingredientes para cuidar nuestra piel.
No sube con toda la frecuencia que me gustaría, eso sí. 

2 - *Zabrena*:  Esta pelirroja sin pelos en la lengua sube videos de lo más variado, desde tutoriales a maquillajes históricamente fieles. No os perdáis sus "frugal Fridays" donde cada viernes está dedicado a marcas asequibles.
Una cosa que me encanta de sus videos es que no suelen durar más de 10 minutos y no son de los que los 3 primeros se los pasa divagando.
Tiene su propia marca de pestañas postizas, *Inky Minky Lashes*.

 3 - *Robeson Design*: Si os gustan los programas de decoración de HGTV que ponen en Divinity, os enamorará esta mujer. Todos sus seguidores nos preguntamos por qué Rebecca Robeson no tiene aún su propio canal en la cadena.
Crea unos ambientes de revista en que si no encuentra nada que le guste en una tienda, su equipo lo crea. Su hija *Sharrah* también tiene su propio canal, más modesto, pero con buenas ideas también.  Y su hijo pinta unos cuadros maravillosos que suele usar en casi todos sus proyectos.
¡Qué mal repartido está el mundo!



4 - *Rachel and Jun*: Esta pareja americana y japonesa tiene 3 gatos adorables. Por si no fuera suficiente, él cocina como los ángeles -a veces hasta *para los gatos*-. tanto en este canal como en su canal *Jun's Kitchen*. Tienen contenido muy variado, sobre Japón -con imágenes que hasta graban con un dron de lo más relajantes-, sobre diferencias culturales, sobre sus gatos, etc.

Y ahora alguna recomendación en español:

5 - *Dianina XL*: Ha sido un descubrimiento relativamente reciente. Esta valenciana residente en Italia seguro os arrancará una sonrisa, tanto si os cuenta una anécdota como si os enseña lo último de Mercadona. Se curra un montón los videos, hasta con efectos de sonido que son lo más.
Tiene sus propias expresiones fetiche, aunque yo me quedo con "papada hidratada, papada feliz".
Muy divertidos también los 'Testado en Dianina' donde prueba productos delante de la cámara por primera vez.

Today I have a different type of post for you. I really wanted to share with you some noteworthy YouTube channels.

1 - *Gothamista*: Renée is a NY-based skin enthusiast with an apartament to die-for, a collection of skincare anyone would feel jealous of and a wealth of skincare knowledge under her belt.
The only downside is that she doesn't upload as often as I'd like her to.

2 -  *Zabrena*: This lovely redhead isn't one to mince words and offers a wide range of content. From everyday makeup tutorials to historically accurate ones.
Don't miss her 'Frugal Fridays' where she praises affordable makeup from various source.
One thing I love about her vids is that they're seldom over 10 minutes long and she's not the type to spend the first 3 rambling off the topic.
She owns her own brand of lashes, *Inky Minky lashes*.

3 - *Robeson Design*: If you like home improvement shows like those on HGTV or the DIY network, you'll adore this woman.
All her followers can't grasp why this genious of a woman doesn't have her own show yet.
She creates spaces that look like a million dollars and if she can't find the perfect piece she's been looking for, her team creates it for her. Her daughter *Sharrah* has her own channel, more low-key but packed with good ideas too.  And her son is an artist, creating most of the artwork she uses on her commissions. Some got all the talent and others none.

 4 - *Rachel and Jun*: This couple of American and Japanese have 3 adorable cats. If that wasn't swoon-worthy enough he's a great chef, occasionally cooking for those *lucky furballs* both in this channel and his own, *Jun's Kitchen*. They offer very different content, from videos about Japan -some with their own drone footage that are very relaxing to watch- to cultural differences, their cats and everything in between.

 And now some recommendations in Spanish:

5 - *Dianina XL': This Valencian lady now living in Italy was a fairly recent discovery. She'll surely get you in a good mood, whether she's recalling one of her adventures or sharing with you her latest Mercadona Haul. She puts a lot of work on her videos, even adding sound effects to make them funnier still.
She's got her own trademark expressions as well, like her iconic: 'A moisturized double chin is a happy double chin'.
Her 'Tested on Dianina' series is great fun too, with her testing different products on camera for the first time.

Receta/recipe: Berenjena con jamón y queso/Aubergine with ham and cheese.

Hola, chicas:

Hace mucho que no os traigo una receta, pero vi *este* vídeo de Isasaweis, y me pareció una receta tan fácil que decidí hacerla.
Hice fotos y me dije: "Si me sale bien, la publico en el blog". Así que aquí la tenéis.

Vamos con los ingredientes:

*Una berenjena grande (yo utilicé dos pequeñas).
*Jamón cocido.
*Queso de lonchas.
*Aceite de oliva.
*Ajo molido.
*Orégano.
*Queso rallado (yo no tenía, así que utilicé una loncha de queso y la troceé).


Preparación.

Antes de empezar, y si habéis visto el vídeo del que os hablo, veréis que Isa utiliza cazuelas de barro. Yo no tengo. Lo sé, no tengo perdón siendo de Zamora. Con lo buenas que hacen las cazuelas en Pereruela (Zamora). Como veréis, he utilizado una fuente de Pyrex.

En el fondo de la fuente (o de la cazuela) se echa un chorrito de aceite de oliva y se extiende bien.

Cortar la berenjena en rodajas finas, lo más que se pueda.

Ahora se pone una capa de lonchas de berenjena, otra de jamón y otra de queso, y otra vez: berenjena, jamón y queso, y se termina con una capa de berenjena.




Ahora se echa el queso rallado, el ajo en polvo y el orégano.

Se introduce la fuente en el horno precalentado a 250ºC con calor arriba y abajo (yo lo hice sólo con calor abajo, y al final del tiempo, puse un par de minutos el gratinador).
Se cocina durante 25 minutos.






Si habéis puesto calor arriba y abajo, cuando la parte de arriba está doradita, tapáis con papel de aluminio para que no se queme, y dejáis terminar el tiempo de cocinado.

Sacar del horno y dejar enfriar un poco antes de comer. Así estará mucho más rico.

Pues ya os adelanto que este plato está riquísimo, así que os animo a que lo hagáis.

It's been quite a long time since my last recipe, but when I watched *this* video from Isasaweis (a Spanish YouTuber), it seemed such an easy recipe that I decided to make it.
I took the pictures and said: "If it turns out fine, I'll post it". So here you are.

Let's now go on with the ingredients:

*A big aubergine /eggplant (I used two small ones).
*Cooked ham.
*Sliced cheese.
*Olive oil.
*Garlic powder.
*Oregano.
*Grated cheese (I didn't have this, so I used a slice of cheese and cut it into pieces).


Preparation.

Before starting, and if you've watched the video I told you about, you'll see Isa using clay pots. I haven't got any. I know, I have no excuse coming from Zamora, renowned for clay work.
Clay pots from Pereruela (Zamora) are very famous. As you can see, I used an oven dish from Pyrex.

Put a dash of olive oil on the bottom of the oven dish (or the clay pot) and spread well.




Cut the aubergine into thin slices (the thinnest you can get).

Now put a layer of aubergine slices, then another one of cooked ham, and another one of sliced cheese. Repeat the process one more time, and put a layer of eggplant slices on top.

Now add the grated cheese, the garlic powder and the oregano.




Put the dish in the oven, pre-heated at 250ºC (482ºF), with heat up and down (I put just down heat, and by the end of the cooking time, I turned on the grill for a couple of minutes). Leave it cooking for 25 minutes.
If you put up and down heat, when the upper part is golden, put a piece of aluminium paper on top, and keep it until the end of the cooking time. That way it won't burn.

Take out of the oven and let it cool for a while before eating. This way it'll be much more tasty.

Una nueva ayuda para mis "proyectos costuriles". - A new help for my 'sewing projects'.

Hola de nuevo:

Aquí estoy con una entrada un poco diferente.

Una de las aficiones que descubrí hace relativamente poco ha sido la costura. Pero no penséis que sé un montón. He aprendido mucho de ver (y de ayudar) a mi madre cuando nos ha hecho alguna prenda. Mi madre tampoco es profesional, pero cuando éramos pequeñas nos hacía prácticamente toda la ropa (salvo los pantalones, con los que nunca se atrevió).

Y otra de las fuentes de mi "sapiencia costuril" ha sido Internet: videos de youtube y blogs sobre este tema. Así que se podría decir que soy un poco autodidacta en esto.

Me he atrevido a hacer mantas para brochas (por cierto, que pronto veréis la *nueva* que he hecho, que reemplazará a la primera que hice y que os enseñé *aquí*), bolsos a partir de unos vaqueros (que os enseñé *aquí*) y alguna cosa más que no he enseñado.

Here I am with a slightly different post.

One of my most recent hobbies is sewing. But don't think that I know a lot about it. I've learnt much from my mother: watching and helping her when she was making a garment for us. My mother is not a professional either, but when we were young, she made almost all our clothes (except for trousers, because she didn't dare).

The other source of my 'sewing wisdom' is Internet: Youtube videos and blogs about this issue. So I could say that I'm self-taught.

I've dared to make us a pair of brushrolls (btw, you'll see the *new* ones soon, which will replace the first ones I made, that I showed you *here*), bags from jeans (which I showed you *here*), and some other things that I haven't showed you.

Para completar mi equipo de costura, me compré hace poco la remalladora (overlock) de Lidl, al módico precio de 129€. Digo lo de módico, porque según tengo entendido, una máquina de similares características en una tienda especializada, puede que no se apee de los 500€.

Y como tampoco la voy a usar a destajo, para mí es más que suficiente.

Por cierto, que mi madre, cuando se enteró de que me la había comprado, se puso la mar de contenta. Teníais que haberla oído decir: "Uy, la de cosas que vamos a hacer". O sea, que se entiende que la máquina es "con derecho a gorroneo", jaja.

Tengo que salsear mucho con ella todavía.

To complete my sewing equipment, I bought the overlock machine available for a short while from Lidl not long ago, for the reasonable price of €129. I say 'reasonable' because, as far as I know, a similar machine at a specialized store here in Spain will hardly be any less than €500.

And as I won't use it everyday, it's more than OK for me.

By the way, when I told my mother that I had bought it, she was so happy that said: 'Wow, we're gonna make lots of things with it'. So the machine is going to be bummed many times, I'm afraid, lol.

Aquí podéis ver mis dos máquinas. Ahora que pienso, creo que las dos costaron exactamente lo mismo. Y como curiosidad, os diré que podría intercambiar los pedales de las dos, porque son iguales, iguales.

La overlock venía enhebrada con los hilos que veis en la primera foto. Incluía también una funda para protegerla, de esas de tela plastificada.

Pero puesto que no la voy a usar todos los días, necesitaba una bolsa para guardarla.

Así que nos recorrimos varias tiendas de bolsos y maletas en busca de la bolsa perfecta para este uso. Pero no tuvimos éxito. Vimos cosas muy bonitas, pero las medidas no eran las adecuadas.

Buscando en internet, marox encontró una bolsa que podría servirnos. ¿Dónde? En la web de Decathlon. Así que, allí que nos fuimos... y la encontramos.

The overlock machine was already threaded with the rolls of thread you can see on the first pic. A protective cover (of those made of plastified fabric) was also included.

But as I'm not using this machine everyday, I thought that I needed a bag to carry it.

So we went to some stores that sell bags and suitcases, looking for the perfect bag for this. But we didn't succeed. We saw very nice things, but they weren't the right size.

Browsing the net, marox found a bag that could be right. Where? At the Decathlon website.

So we went there... and we found it.

Me gusta mucho esta bolsa, porque además de la máquina, puedo meter el pedal (importantísimo), el libro de instrucciones y el dvd explicativo.

I like this bag very much, because together with the machine, I can store the foot-pedal (very important), the manual and the instructional dvd.

He hecho una *ñapa* para el interior que ya os enseñaré.

I've made a *hack* for the interior which I'll show you soon.

¡Casi se me olvidaba! No quería terminar esta entrada sin antes presentaros a mi otra ayudante en los proyectos costuriles.

Oh! I almost forget it! I didn't want to end this post without presenting you my other assistant on my sewing projects.

Por cierto, hoy es el cumpleaños de Molly. 3 añitos.

UDLS / NOTW: Kiko #305 'Light Green Chrome'

Hoy vengo con un post de archivo, para enseñaros un esmalte que lucí hace ya unos meses. Se trata del último esmalte que compré en Kiko, en concreto en la tienda de Salamanca del centro.

I'm back with a 'from the vault' post, to show you a polish I wore some months ago. It's the last Kiko I bought, in particular I bought this at the store in downtown Salamanca.




Día 1: A media tarde, aplico una capa de endurecedor de Bpretty, comprado en una droguería BIPA de Viena. Después, aplico dos capas de este esmalte. Ha resultado más cubriente de lo que me esperaba y tiene un bonito acabado plateado, aunque menos intenso que otros de mi colección. Llegué a temer que fuera pura purpurina. El subtono verde es muy sutil.




Day 1: In the evening, I apply one coat of my Bpretty nail hardener, purchased at a BIPA drugstore in Vienna, followed by two of this. It turned out to be less sheer than I expected and has a nice foil finish, though not as intense as others in my stash. I was fearing it would turn out to be a glittery dud. The green undertone is very, very subtle.




Día 3: Hago estampación en dos dedos de cada mano, índice y anular con una placa de Essence (dibujo de hibisco en la placa del ancla) y con la M64 de Konad. Para estampar uso el 'Welcome to the Jungle' de Catrice. No queda mal aunque pensé que quedaría más marcado. Aplico el topcoat de BTGN de Essence en esas uñas, que en un dedo -el que tenía más reciente la estampación- lo emborrona un poco. Quizá debería haber esperado un pelín más.




Day 3: I went for a subtle stamping with two accent fingers, index and ring. I used an Essence plate for this -the one with the hibiscus and the anchor- and my Konad M64. For stamping I used 'Welcome to the Jungle' from Catrice, which turned out nice but not as intense as I'd hoped it would be. Topped with the BTGN Essence topcoat in those nails, which slightly blurred the design on the last nail to be stamped -I should have probably waited a bit longer.

Os dejo con un pequeño video de Molly, que en breve comenzará su 'Operación: cuerpazo' y es que con 5,2 kilos tiene que perder peso sí o sí. Así que su amita tía ya le ha comprado hoy el pienso light de Hills. A ver si le hace más efecto que los de supermercado. Viendo el video comprenderéis porqué lo de hacer dieta no es lo suyo.





And I'm off with a short video feat. Molly. She'll be soon beginning her 'Operation: Weightloss' because 5.2 kilos is a lot and she has no option but shed some of that. Her auntie got her some Hill's™ Science Plan™: Feline Adult Light to see if it gets better result than low-fat cat food from the supermarket. If you watch the video, you'll see why she's useless at weight management.

Lector electrónico Sony PRS-T1 / E-book reader Sony PRS-T1

Os presento mi flamante primer lector de libros electrónicos, que espero me dure muchos años. Como ya comenté en las últimas entradas sobre libros, llevaba tiempo dándole vueltas a la idea de hacerme con uno, por aquello de ahorrar espacio en nuestras ya atestadas estanterías.
Tras un par de semanas leyendo opiniones, críticas en páginas especializadas, recorriendo tiendas físicas y demás, el elegido fue el nuevo lector de Sony, el PRS-T1, que salió a la venta en octubre de este año, si no me equivoco.




Meet my brand-new and first e-book reader, which I hope to get many years of service from. As I let slip in previous book reviews, I'd been thinking about getting one of these for a while, namely to save some precious space in our already overflowing shelves. After a couple of weeks of some serious searching, reading online reviews in specialized websites and checking out several of our local stores, the winner was the Sony Reader PRS-T1, which if I'm not mistaken appeared on the market in October this year -that is, last month.




Os dejo un enlace a la página de Sony, en el podéis encontrar todos los datos técnicos del "bicho".
El mío lo compré en Hipercor (grupo El Corte Inglés) y costó -aunque fue un regalo, evidentemente no ha sido una sorpresa- 179€. Tienen en oferta la funda con luz, por lo que finalmente el total fue de 218€. Sin embargo, no disponían de la funda en stock y aunque tuvimos que pagarla por adelantado, todavía no ha llegado.
Por otra parte, Hipercor tenía en el catálogo una oferta por la que acumulas un 10% de las compras para gastar en la primera quincena de diciembre en cualquier sección. Así que disponemos de un vale que nos hará un poco más llevaderas las compras navideñas (a nuestro bolsillo, principalmente).

I'll leave the following link with all the technical details of the reader from the Sony website. We bought mine from Hipercor (part of the El Corte Inglés group) and price was 179 EUR. It was a present but definitely not a surprise and I therefore know how much she had to fork out for it. They had a special deal on the reader + case (the lit one), so the final price was 218 EUR, but they didn't have it in stock, so we had to pay for it in advance and hopefully get it soon. I know this device is probably cheaper online, but I didn't want to risk it and have problems at customs, getting a faulty device and the lot so I decided buying local would be best. Hipercor also had an offer and they gave us a 10% voucher to be spent on any section of the store in the first fortnight of December, so our Christmas shopping list will be a bit easier to manage -our wallets will surely appreciate it.

Ahora mismo me encuentro leyendo mi segundo libro. Quizá le habría dado más caña de tener la funda, pero no me atrevo a usarla apenas en la cama por si me quedo dormida y me cargo la pantalla o algo. Marian de momento ha hecho un pequeño "proyecto costuril" para el "bicho" hasta tenerla.

I'm currently reading my second e-book on it. I'd probably have used this a lot more had I got the case in my possession already, but as it is I'm a bit afraid of getting into bed for a nightime read without it being properly protected. I don't want to fall asleep and wake up to a broken touchscreen or something. Marian has done a small sewing DIY project to store the device until the case comes.





Este lector está disponible en tres colores: negro, frambuesa y blanco. Yo opté por el blanco, ya que las primeras críticas mencionaban que en el negro podía molestar un poco el reflejo de la pantalla en el marco, ya que éste no es mate sino brillante. De momento, no le he quitado el plástico que protege los laterales. Como véis, lo "mimo" mucho, jeje.

The reader is available in three different colours: black, raspberry red and white. I chose it in white, as apparently the first reviewers complained of some disturbing reflection from the screen onto the frame which is not made of a matte material but has a glossy finish to it. I haven't even removed the protective film on the sides yet. You see, I'm taking good care of my baby, lol.

Os dejo con un video "electoral" muy gracioso. No entiendo el gasto inútil en campaña electoral cuando total, en la tele ya te sacarán alguna coplilla - y porque la mayoría de la gente ya tiene claro a quien votar sin campaña de por medio.

Will never understand why parties spend so much money on the campaign when TV shows are going to do things like this all the same -and because most people know in advance who they'll vote for regardless of campaigns.

Receta: Pimientos del piquillo rellenos / Recipe: Stuffed Piquillo peppers

Hacía una eternidad que no publicaba ninguna receta de cocina, así que hoy os traigo una que nos encanta por lo básica que es. Yo la llamaría de "fondo de despensa"; me explico: si tenéis siempre en la despensa pimientos del piquillo, atún en conserva y huevos, os puede sacar de algún apuro si no andáis muy inspiradas o si tenéis algún invitado inesperado.

It's been ages since I last posted a recipe, so today I'd like to share one of our favourites. It's so simple and easy that you only need a handful of ingredients that I'm sure you usually stock on your kitchen pantry. If you have canned piquillo peppers, canned tuna and eggs, you'll have a delicious meal ready within a few minutes -great for when we lack inspiration or have unexpected guests for lunch or dinner.

Ingredientes para 2 personas:

1 lata de pimientos del piquillo
1 huevo cocido
1 lata de atún en aceite o dos lonchas de salmón ahumado
Vino blanco para cocinar
Tomate frito
Harina
Sal
Ajos
Aceite de oliva
Un poco de agua



Ingredients (serves 2).

Canned piquillo peppers (1 can) or failing that, Jarred roasted red peppers
1 hard-boiled egg
Canned tuna or two slices of smoked salmon
White wine for cooking
Tomato sauce
Flour
Salt
2 cloves of garlic
Olive oil
Water


1- Se pica el huevo cocido y el salmón ahumado o atún en un plato.
1- Cut the hard-boiled egg and the smoked salmon or tuna into bits and keep them on a dish.


2- Se echan unas tres cucharadas de postre de tomate frito y se remueve todo. Se rellenan los pimientos del piquillo (guardar el caldo para la salsa).
2- Add three tsps of tomato sauce and blend in with the egg, salmon/tuna. Stuff the piquillo peppers (keep the juice for the sauce).




3- Ponemos unas tres cucharadas de aceite en una sartén a fuego más bien fuerte y picamos el ajo, que freímos hasta que esté doradito. A la salsa que traen los pimientos, le echamos un poco de agua.
3- Put a frying pan on a medium-high heat and add three tbsps of olive oil. Chop up the garlic cloves and fry until golden. Add some water to the juice that comes with the tinned peppers.


4- Echamos una cucharadita de harina en la sartén, un poco de vino blanco, el caldo de los pimientos y unas dos cucharadas de tomate frito.
4- Put a tsp of flour on the frying pan, with a splash of white wine, the juice from the peppers and two tbsp of tomato sauce.


5- Añadimos un poquito de agua y sal. Movemos un poco y echamos los pimientos y los dejamos unos minutos cociendo.
5- Add a trickle of water and salt. Gently stir the sauce and incorporate the peppers. Bring to the boil for a few minutes.

With quite a long delay, I'm writing my view on the news that have made the headlines over the last two weeks.

En esta ocasión, comienzo por la noticia internacional, que no podía ser otra que los atentados terroristas de Noruega. El pasado viernes 22 de julio el hasta entonces pacífico país nórdico contemplaba horrorizado primeramente cómo una explosión en el centro de Oslo causaba la muerte al menos a 9 personas. Poco más de una hora después, un hombre fuertemente armado disfrazado de policía llegaba a la tranquila isla de Utøya -situada a unos 35 kms al noroeste de la capital- en la que durante más de una hora se dedicó a abrir fuego de forma indiscriminada, acabando con la vida de otras 80 personas antes de ser detenido por agentes de la policía y cuerpos de élite noruegos.

I'll start with the international news first, and my pick for this news bit could only be the terrorist attacks in Norway. Last Friday, July 22nd, the until then always peaceful Scandinavian country witnessed first an explosion in downtown Oslo, killing at least 9 people. A little more than an hour later, a man armed with a pistol and an automatic riffle, dressed in a police uniform set foot on the Utoeya island, located some 20 miles north-west of the capital- where over the next hour he went on to shoot and kill another 80 before being finally arrested by the police and the SWAT team deployed to stop him.

Las características del atentado inicial, mediante una bomba colocada cerca de la sede del Primer Ministro y varios ministerios, unida a la participación de Noruega en misiones de la OTAN en Oriente Medio junto a un comunicado de un grupo yihadista (que se retractó más tarde), hizo pensar en Al-Qaeda. El verdadero responsable, Anders Behring Breivik, un ciudadano noruego de 32 años, probablemente contaba con ello. La policía, ocupada en atender a las víctimas de la explosión localizada en el distrito gubernamental de Oslo, no podía ni imaginarse que el responsable tenía planeada una segunda matanza aprovechando la confusión.

The nature of the first attack, a bomb going off near the Prime Minister's offices and several ministries, combined with Norway's participation in NATO-led actions in the Middle East and a faction of Jihad terrorists claiming responsibility (later taken back) for the attack, spelled the name of Al-Qaeda. The real culprit, a 32-year-old Norwegian citizen, Anders Behring Breivik, was probably counting on it. The police, with their hands full helping the victims in the explosion at the heart of Oslo's governmental district, had no idea his killing spree was not over yet.

Me he referido a este individuo como terrorista, ya que eso es lo que es: no es un loco (sabe perfectamente lo que ha hecho y lo que es más, no se arrepiente). Según las últimas investigaciones, también llevaba planeando estos ataques durante aproximadamente cinco años. Ante hechos violentos como éstos (o ya puestos, los asesinos de mujeres maltratadas), nunca falta quien habla de 'enajenados', dando pie a que se considere su supuesto estado mental como atenuante. Anders Breivik es un terrorista, ya que ha sembrado el terror. Punto.

I referred above to this individual as a terrorist and indeed he is: he's not a madman (he knows perfectly well what he's done and what's more, he does not regret his actions). According to the latest reports, he had been planning the killings for about five years. When a tragedy like this (or wife-beaters/killers for that matter) strikes, someone sooner or later will use the word 'madman' or similar ones, implying that their so-called mental state will have to be considered as an extenuating circumstance before a jury. Anders Breivik is a terrorist, as he left terror behind him. Full stop.

En los días posteriores a estos atentados, hemos ido conociendo más detalles sobre el asesino: antiguo militante de un partido de derechas, lo abandonó ante la actitud "blanda" del mismo en cuestiones de inmigración, el multiculturalismo, etc. En un escrito de 1500 páginas enviado a través de Internet ese mismo día, demuestra estar muy al tanto de la actualidad mundial, criticando por ejemplo (y con mucho detalle) la actitud blandengue ante la inmigración del gobierno de España, donde había preparado también varios escondites con explosivos. El Sr. Breivik debía pensar que no tenemos suficiente con nuestros terroristas.
En su "manifiesto" se muestra también obsesionado con los Balcanes y se ve a sí mismo como un caballero templario del siglo XXI, cuya misión es "limpiar" Europa de musulmanes, etc.

In the course of a few days after the killings, more details about the killer have been made public: a former supporter of a right-wing party, he left it due to their 'bland' stance on emigration issues, multiculturalism, etc. In a 1,500-page document he e-mailed the very same day, he reveals himself to be very well-informed about what's going on in the world, critisizing for example and in some detail, the Spanish government's rather soft attitude towards immigration, having set up several hideouts with explosives here. Mr. Breivik probably thought our own share of terrorism is not enough.
In his 'manifesto', he's patently obsessed with the Balkans as well, and regards himself as a 21st-century crusader, on a mission to 'cleanse' Europe of Muslims.

Lo que no debemos ignorar, es que por justa que uno crea su causa, no se puede pretender defenderla vulnerando los derechos de los demás (véase 'Los Indignados', cuyas acampadas han puesto contra las cuerdas a muchos negocios), ni mucho menos matando para ello. Porque si así lo hace, estará haciendo un flaco favor a dicha causa.
Aprendamos de los errores del pasado, para que no haya más Hitlers, Milosevics, Pinochets, Carrillos, Francos, Bin Ladens ni Breiviks en este mundo.

What we should never forget is that, no matter how fair one thinks his cause to be, you cannot defend it going against the rights of others (i.e, the Indignados camps, leaving hundreds of small businesses on the verge of bankruptcy), and even less killing for it. Because if you do, you'll be rendering that cause a poor service. Let us learn from the mistakes of the past, so there are no more Hitlers, Milosevics, Pinochets, Carrillos, Francos, Bin Ladens or Breiviks in this world.

Y en lo nacional, me tengo que quedar también con una "noticia" de tipo político. Lo de las comillas, lo digo porque era un secreto a voces que el gobierno no agotaría la legislatura. El pasado día 29 de julio, viernes también, el presidente Zapatero anunciaba en rueda de prensa la convocatoria de elecciones para el próximo 20 de noviembre. Ahora ya sabemos lo que nos espera, aguantar una larga campaña electoral con cruces de acusaciones de izquierda a derecha, de derecha a izquierda y ya puestos, de arriba a abajo y de abajo a arriba. Sospecho que la campaña va a ser movidita y no muy limpia, probablemente.

On July 29th, Friday again, President Zapatero called a press conference to announce the next general elections are to be held on November 20th. And now will be our turn to entertain ourselves with a long electoral campaign with a cross-fire of accusations from left to right, from right to left and, now that they're on it, from up down and down up. I got a feeling it's going to be a rough campaign and not exactly clean/fair, probably.

Y en deportes, Alonso volvió a subirse al podio en Hungaroring, circuito de recuerdos agridulces para él. A ver qué nos depara la próxima carrera, Spa, para la que nos va a tocar esperar un poco, hasta el 28 de agosto.



And in sports, Alonso did another podium at Hungaroring, a circuit of bitter-sweet memories for him. We'll have to wait a bit for the next race, in Spa next August 28th and to see what happens there.

Hazlo tú / DIY 'Brush guards'

Hoy os traigo mi primera entrada de 'manualidades'. No se trata de una idea original mía, sino que simplemente decidí seguir el consejo que nos proponía Arroin80 en el video que dejo a continuación.
En mi caso, decidí pedir el producto por Internet, a un vendedor de Ebay UK. Os dejo los datos al final del post.




Here's my first DIY blogpost. I'm not the mastermind behind this idea, I'm merely borrowing this from the Spanish beauty guru Arroin80, who shared this with us in the following video. In my case, I ordered them online, from an Ebay UK seller. See details at the end of this post.

En el video, la idea se le ocurre a su marido, informático, ya que el uso original de este producto es como protector de cables en ordenadores personalizados o 'modding'. Como los precios y condiciones de los proveedores que ella conocía no me convencían, en seguida me plantée probar en Ebay. Pero claro, ¿cómo leches busco el producto en cuestión? ¿Qué nombre escribo en la cajita de búsqueda? Tras algunas pequeñas pesquisas, averigué que a las dichosas 'fundas expandibles' se las conoce normalmente en inglés como 'expandable braided sleeving'.

In the video, the idea comes originally from Arro's husband, an IT technician, since the intented use of the product is to protect computer cables in customized computers or 'modding'. The prices and terms of the suppliers she suggested were not too appealing, so I immediately knew Ebay or 'Evil Bay' would come to my rescue. But then, I had another problem: What was the English for the said 'fundas expandibles'? How on earth do I make my search? After a little bit of research on my part, I found out the most common term was 'expandable braided sleeving'.




Una vez que sabemos cómo se llaman, me decidí a pedirlas al Reino Unido, ya que las medidas y longitud de estas fundas venía expresada en mm y metros, vamos lo que viene siendo 'en cristiano'. Si me ponen que vienen X pulgadas y demás, me quedo igual que estoy.
En la guerra métrico-imperial, me da que gana el sistema métrico por goleada, jeje. Aunque sé que ésto en mí tiene delito, yo es que para los números soy negada total y me daba miedo o bien quedarme corta o pasarme pidiendo.

Now that the translation problem was solved, I decided to order them from the UK, mainly because the length and width of the sleeves came in mm and metres. In the metric-imperial war, I got a feeling metric would win hands down, lol. I know in my case it shouldn't be an excuse, but my maths skills have always sucked and I was afraid of either ordering too little or too much -too small or too big also. Sorry, but reading X inches and Y feet sounds like Chinese to me.

El siguiente paso, fue medir nuestras brochas, para saber qué medidas (anchos) necesitábamos. Como todo el mundo, supongo, tenemos brochas de ojos y de rostro. Finalmente, nos decidimos por estas tres medidas: 6mm, 8mm y 15mm. De las dos últimas, nos ha sobrado bastante pero de la funda de 6mm la gastamos entera. Tuvimos justo para tanto mis brochas como para las de mi hermana. Las nuestras son negras, que eran las más baratitas y total para lo que son, nos daba igual. Si visitáis la tienda del vendedor, veréis que la mayoría están disponibles en varios colores.

The next step was measuring our brushes to get an idea of which measures (width) we would need. Like everyone else, I suppose, we have eye and face brushes. We ended up ordering these three widths: 6mm, 8mm and 15mm. We spent all the length from the 6mm one, but have plenty of the other two left. We used them to make brush guards for both my brushes and my sister's. We ordered them in black, the cheapest ones, but if you browse through the seller's shop you'll see they're available in a variety of colours.

Como explica Arroin80 en el video, lo único que tenéis que hacer es quemar los extremos para que no se deshilachen (o 'espipen' como decimos en mi tierra). Luego cortáis el trozo necesario para proteger la virola y las cerdas de vuestras brochas, quemando de nuevo -con un mechero o una vela, por ejemplo- los dos extremos de nuestros protectores caseros de brochas.




All you have to do, as explained by Arroin80 in the video is burn both edges of the sleeving to prevent them from fraying. Then cut them to size to cover both the ferrule and the bristles, burning both sides of our homemade brushguards again. You can use a candle or a lighter for this, which is what we used.

Hola de nuevo.

Acabo de ver un video de Azucena Morales que me ha encantado. A esta gurú le enviaron de forma gratuíta una de las dichosas maquinitas de depilación casera mediante láser y no le ha temblado la voz para decir que es UNA MIERDA. Un olé para ella -me parto con su 'ceceo' andaluz - y lo que dice en el video.

I've just seen a video on YT from the famous Spanish guru Azucena Morales, love her southern accent with 'ceceo' btw. She was sent one of those laser hair removal devices for home use -free of charge- and has no problem in saying they're CRAP. Olé/Amén to that and to her.

Tanto mi hermana como yo, nos hemos gastado los cuartos -ella en dos ocasiones distintas, yo sólo una- para nada en sendos tratamientos en clínicas distintas.
La primera vez que se lo hizo, cuando vio que no le hacía demasiado efecto, el dermatólogo le dijo que era por 'problemas hormonales' y de la segunda vez no completó todas las sesiones porque se empeñaban en utilizarlo en zonas donde no tenía *tiempo pasado* vello. ¿Resultado? Sigue teniendo que depilarse y encima tiene vello en zonas donde antes no lo tenía. Con cera, barata y eficaz o con pinza.

Both my sister and I have spent our hard-earned money -she did so on two different occassions, me just once- for nothing at different clinics.
The first time, when she noticed no results, her dermathologist told her the treatment was unsuccessful due to 'hormonal changes' and the second time she refused to continue the treatment because they kept using it on areas where she had -notice the *past tense*- no hair at all at the time. The outcome: she still has to remove her facial hair, even in areas where she didn't have to before.

Por mi parte, creo que yo lo dejé por la misma razón a la 5ª sesión, porque vi que aquello era un sacapelas inútil, y que también por esa manía de usarlo en zonas donde no tienes vello, me salía donde antes no tenía.

As for me, I think I quit the treatment for the same reason after my 5th session, because I saw it was a useless waste of money, and because of their insisting on using it on areas where it was completely unnecessary. And yes, I still have to remove my facial hair just like I did before the treatment. Good old wax, cheap and reliable or tweezers.

En nuestra humilde opinión, el único láser que merece la pena es el de la cirugía ocular. Ése sí que fue un dinero bien gastado. Aunque a mí me quedó una dioptría aproximadamente en un ojo, me advirtieron en todo momento de que mi caso era más complicado, por lo que en ningún momento me sentí engañada. Fue mi decisión seguir adelante y así lo hice.

In our humble opinion, the only laser procedure we swear by and is worth it is laser eye surgery. THAT was money well spent. Though I still have about one dioptre in one eye, I was well informed about how my case was more difficult than hers and didn't feel cheated out of my money or anything. I decided to go ahead and don't regret it.
