Hotel Casa 400 Amsterdam (II)

En la *primera* parte, os hablé del hotel en general, de la zona en la que está ubicado y demás. En esta última entrada me gustaría hablaros de las habitaciones del Hotel Casa 400 de Ámsterdam, en el que Marian y yo estuvimos alojadas del 2 al 6 de septiembre.

In *Part one*, I talked about our hotel in Amsterdam in general, the area and so on. In this last part, I'd like to tell you about the rooms at the Hotel Casa 400 in which Marian and I stayed from September 2nd to 6th.




Nuestra reserva era para una habitación doble, en régimen de alojamiento y desayuno. En recepción, nos asignaron la habitación 743, situada en la séptima planta del hotel. Daba a una especie de patio interior muy amplio, por lo que la habitación era bastante luminosa.

Our reservation was for a double room with breakfast. After checking in, we were given room 743 located on the 7th floor, without street views but with plenty of light.

La llave era mediante un sistema de tarjeta magnética, que nos sirve tanto para usar los ascensores como para tener electricidad en la habitación -detalle que no me entusiasma, ya que no podemos dejar unas pilas cargando mientras estamos fuera, por ejemplo. Nada más entrar y a pesar de haber leído bastantes críticas del hotel, nos sorprendió la sensación de amplitud de la habitación. Dispone de un enorme escritorio, de pared a pared. Tanto si os alojáis en este hotel por trabajo o simplemente por turismo, os vendrá muy bien: para el ordenador, como 'mesa para cenar', etc.

The key was by means of a magnetic card which is used both to access the lifts and to have electricity in your room -which I'm not particularly fond of, as you cannot leave a set of batteries charging while you're out, for instance. We were immediately struck -despite having read many reviews and seen pictures of the hotel- by how roomy the room looked. It has a wall-to-wall desk. It will be very useful both for business travellers who need to use a computer and pleasure ones just doing some tourism like us who used it to have dinner.

Las habitaciones tienen una gran televisión plana Philips (por aquello de apoyar a la industria nacional) con muchos canales en varios idiomas, incluso en español. Sorprendentemente, la cadena no es TVE Internacional sino... ¡Extremadura TV! Ya lo había leído, pero aún así nos hizo mucha gracia. A través del televisor tenéis acceso también a una especie de canal interno del hotel con información como el menú del restaurante, el pronóstico del tiempo, etc.

All rooms have a large flat screen TV (Philips, in order to support the national industry probably). with channels in different languages, even Spanish. But the chosen TV station was not TVE Internacional as one would expect but the regional television channel of Extremadura. ROTFL!! We had read about it but had a good laugh anyway. The TV gives you as well access to a hotel TV channel so to speak, providing info about the restaurant menu, the weather forecast and so on.

Un detalle que no me gustó fue el aire acondicionado o más bien el sistema de ventilación. Intenté desconectarlo pero seguía saliendo un poco de aire y eso, unido al tiempo cambiante que tuvimos esos días allí, me hizo volver con un señor catarro. No dijimos nada en recepción, por lo que quizá nos lo podrían haber desconectado ellos, si es que era posible.

There was something I didn't like, the air conditioning or ventilation system to be exact. I tried to switch it off but a steady flow of cool residual air kept coming out and that, combined with the changing weather we had those days, made me come home with a nice cough. We didn't say anything about it in reception, so they might have been able to fix it if we had.

Junto a un amplio armario, tenemos un pequeño mueble con minibar en la parte baja. Está vacío, para poder meter allí algo para comer o beber. Eso fue lo que hicimos nosotras salvo el último día: comprábamos algún sandwich, fruta y yogurt de regreso al hotel y nos lo comíamos tranquilamente en la supermesa que hay bajo la ventana. Normalmente, los comprábamos en una especie de tienda/minisupermercados llamados Albert Heijn que estaban por todas partes -hay uno en la estación de Amstel, muy cerca del hotel.

Next to a roomy closet, there's a small cabinet with shelves and a minibar on the bottom part. It's empty for you to fill it with the food and drinks of your choice. That's what we did every day except the last: we would get a sandwich, some fruit and yogurt to take away and ate it in the comfort of our room later, using the big table under the window. We'd get those from one of those corner shops/minimarkets called Albert Heijn that are pretty much everywhere. There's one inside Amstel station, really close to the hotel.

El baño era muy moderno y elegante, con una ducha cerrada con mampara de cristal con dos puertas. Aunque se podía añadir un extra de presión al agua con el propio grifo, personalmente me hubiera gustado que saliera aún más 'potente', aunque era más que suficiente. Algunas echaréis de menos un secador, aunque como yo siempre me lo dejo secar al aire, me da igual. Si os alojáis allí en invierno, meter un secador en la maleta no estaría de más. Hay múltiples enchufes en la habitación, también en el baño.
Como pequeña crítica, comentar que están pensados para gente muy alta, así que no os sorprendáis si os cuelgan las piernas en el váter o os tenéis que estirar un poco para colocar la 'alcachofa' de ducha en su soporte. Nosotras somos de estatura normal, yo mido 1.68 y Marian 1.65m.

Los ingleses echarán de menos facilidades para preparar té y café. Sospecho que en recepción quizá tengan teteras eléctricas, porque había un espacio perfecto con enchufe y todo justo encima del minibar. Así que se me ocurre que quizá esté disponible 'bajo petición'.

The bathroom was modern and stylish, with glass doors in the shower. Although you could get extra water pressure by adjusting the faucet/tap, I like them even more powerful, but that's a personal thing anyway. It was more than enough as it was. Some of you may miss a hairdryer, but I always let my hair dry naturally so it wasn't a problem for me. If you stay there during the winter/colder months, I'd definitely pack one. There are several power sockets in the room and the bathroom was no exception.
I have a small criticism to make, regarding the fact that the bathrooms have been designed with very tall people in mind, so don't be surprised if your feet are dangling on the toilet seat or if you have to stretch in order to put the shower head back in place. For illustration purposes, we're average in height, me 5'6'' and Marian 5'5''.

English guests will miss having tea/coffee making facilities. I suspect they may have electric kettles at reception, because there was the right place for it, just on top of the minibar. So I guess it *might* be available 'upon request'.

Hotel Casa 400 Amsterdam (I)

Como en anteriores viajes, me gustaría hablaros del hotel en el que nos hemos alojado en Amsterdam. Tras leer muchas críticas en Internet, finalmente nos decidimos por el Hotel Casa 400.

El hotel Casa 400 se encuentra en la parte este de la ciudad. Abrió sus puertas en septiembre de 2010, así que podríamos decir que es un hotel joven. Yo añadiría que 'sobradamente preparado', ;-) ya que cuenta con muchas comodidades tanto en las zonas comunes como en las habitaciones. De hecho, ha sido galardonado con varios premios en su corta historia.




Hi again, As we've done with other trips, I'd like to talk about the hotel we've stayed in Amsterdam. After reading many online reviews and feedback from other guests, we chose the Hotel Casa 400.

Hotel Casa 400 is located on the eastern part of the city. It was opened on September 2010, which makes it a very young hotel. Young, but with excellent credentials, as it has many facilities for a pleasant stay, both in the common areas and the rooms. It has won several awards since its opening last year.

El hotel se encuentra a las afueras de Amsterdam, lo que tiene sus ventajas e inconvenientes. Es una zona tranquila, alejada del bullicio de un hotel del centro. Aunque está a las afueras, está muy bien comunicado con el centro de la ciudad: la estación de Amstel se encuentra a escasos 5 minutos del hotel y desde allí podéis elegir qué medio de transporte queréis utilizar para llegar al centro: autobús, tranvía o metro. Pasan cada nada, así que en ningún momento nos dio la sensación de estar 'en medio de la nada'. Personalmente no me importa no estar en pleno centro, en una zona más tranquila y limpia, aunque muy bien comunicada como ha sido el caso. Desde Amstel Station a Centraal Station habría unos diez-quince minutos.

The hotel is located on the border of the city centre, which can be seen as an advantage or disadvantage. It's a quiet neighbourhood, far from the bustling activity you would have if you stayed in the city centre. Despite the location, it's easy to reach by public transport: Amstel Station is located a mere 5 minute-walk from the hotel and you can choose between taking a bus, tramway or the underground from there to get to the city centre. Services run every few minutes, so you won't feel as if you were 'in the middle of nowhere'. I personally don't mind not being in the city centre and prefer somewhere more quiet and cleaner as long as it's well connected by public transport as in this case. The journey from Amstel to Central Station takes about 10-15 minutes.

Posee restaurante, con un horario bastante amplio. De precio quizá algo caro (aprox. 30€ por persona), aunque dentro de lo razonable y la calidad acorde con el precio. Allí cenamos la última noche -nos atendió una camarera española, muy atenta. Como nota negativa, quizá el servicio se hizo algo lento entre plato y plato.
En la foto, podéis ver lo que pedimos: un carpaccio de remolacha con nueces, yo dorada a la plancha y marian solomillo de ternera y de postre ella una tartita de queso con fruta de la pasión y yo un soufflé de frutos rojos. Todo buenísimo.

El hotel dispone de conexión WiFi, sin contraseña, que tan sólo utilizamos desde la habitación.
También hicimos uso del servicio de consigna de equipajes, puesto que nuestro vuelo de regreso salía por la tarde. Los equipajes los guardan en una habitación con acceso mediante tarjeta y se hace una identificación de las maletas para evitar problemas, tanto al dejarlas como al recogerlas.




It has a restaurant, with reasonably long opening hours. Pricewise, perhaps a bit on the expensive side (about 30 EUR per person), but reasonable and the food was great. We had dinner there the last night of our stay -and had a Spanish waitress, very nice. My only criticism would be the service time, we had to wait more than expected between courses.
In the pic you can see what we ordered: beetroot carpaccio with walnuts, me grilled gilthead bream (dorada) and marian a beef steak and for dessert me a berries soufflé and marian a passion fruit cheesecake. Delicious, all of it.

The hotel is WiFi accesible, not password protected, which we only used from our room. We did use the luggage storage service, as our return flight didn't leave until the evening. Our luggage was stored in a key-card staff-only room and tagged for identification purposes both when we dropped it and later when we collected it.

El hotel ofrece un servicio de desayuno buffet muy completo, con una amplia oferta para todos los gustos. Había fruta de varias clases (kiwis, plátanos, sandía y melón, manzanas y mandarinas), además de varios dispensadores de zumo industrial, varias clases de pan, mermeladas en formato unidosis y demás. En cuanto a bollería, la oferta se limitaba a unos pequeños croissants, que estaban muy buenos, la verdad. Si preferís un desayuno salado, también encontraréis embutido, huevos revueltos, queso, salchichas y esas cosas.
La sala de desayunos es muy grande, por lo que no solía haber problema para encontrar mesa -el comedor estaba algo más lleno de las nueve en adelante, eso sí.




The hotel provides a great breakfast buffet, with lots of yummy stuff to choose from. There were several fruits (kiwis, bananas, watermelon and melon, apples and tangerines) as well as industrial juice machines. There were also several types of bread, jam and so on. As for pastries, the only stuff available were small croissants, delicious btw. If you prefer a savoury breakfast, you'll find several cold meats, cheese, scrambled eggs, sausages and all that stuff. The breakfast hall was quite big, so it probably won't take you long to find a table -it was more crowded from 9am on, though.

En otra entrada os hablaré de la habitación. Curiosamente, una amiga de marian se alojó en este hotel hace años, en el 2004. Por aquel entonces, el Casa 400 no era un hotel como tal, sino una residencia de estudiantes. También quedó satisfecha.
I'll write a separate post on the room. Strangely enough, a friend of marian stayed at this place several years ago, back in 2004 when the Casa400 was not a proper hotel but a student residence. She had a pleasant stay too.

Hotel Shnelli Go- Tallinn (2)

Tenía pendiente hablaros de las habitaciones del hotel donde me alojé en Tallin, el Hotel Shnelli Go, del que os hablé *aquí*.
Mi reserva era para una habitación doble de uso individual (DUI) y en concreto, me asignaron la 216, situada en el segundo piso del hotel y con vistas a la estación de tren.

I owed you the second installment about the hotel I stayed at in Tallinn, the Schnelli Go, as I mentioned *here*.
My reservation was for a double room to be used as a single and was given Room 216, located on the second floor and overlooking the railway station.




Las habitaciones con vistas a la estación de tren se caracterizan por ser más ruidosas que las que dan a la Ciudad Vieja. Como no era capaz de cerrar la ventana del todo, sí que se escuchaba el ruido de los trenes, tanto de día como de noche. Era un ruido similar al del camión de los residuos de vidrio descargando.

The rooms overlooking the Railway Station are therefore noisier than those with views to the Old Town. As I was unable to close the double-glazing window completely, I did get to hear the noise from the incoming trains, both during the day and at night. It reminded me of the noise from the glass refuse collection truck.




Soy una persona de poco dormir y es algo que ya tengo asumido. Aunque el ruido se hacía un poco molesto, no dije nada en recepción, porque total, tampoco iba a estar muchos días allí y cuando te pasas el día recorriendo la ciudad visitando sitios sueles llegar al hotel rendida y caes en seguida.

I'm a light sleeper and I'm quite reconciled with that. Though the noise was a bit annoying, I didn't say anything at reception, as I was not staying long anyway. Besides, when you travel abroad, you usually spend the entire day doing lots of sightseeing and are totally exhausted when you're back to the hotel at the end of the day and most times fall asleep within minutes.

Como suele ser habitual fuera de España, la habitación del hotel carece de persianas y las gruesas cortinas no impedían que el sol inundara la habitación... ¡a las cuatro de la mañana! Sí, en Estonia amanece realmente pronto, porque el sol a esas horas ya tenía fuerza. Curioso.

As is usually the case outside Spain, the hotel had no blinds and the heavy curtains/drapes did not stop the sun from shining into the room... at four am!! Yes, the sun does rise quite early in Estonia and it was blazing already. Odd.

Los huéspedes ingleses, probablemente echarán de menos un hervidor eléctrico para preparar té o café. No habría estado mal haber tenido un minibar (vacío, para meter lo que nos apetezca en él y poderlo tomar a cualquier hora. Lo cierto es que no todos los hoteles de 3* disponen de él.

English guests will probably miss having an electric kettle or other tea/coffee-making facilities. I would have liked to have a minibar (an empty one, to fill it with the items of our choice and be able to have something cool to drink anytime). The truth is not all 3* hotels have it.

Las camas son cómodas y la temperatura de la habitación era agradable. La almohada era más baja de lo que a mí me gustan, pero como viajaba sola, pues me cogí la de la otra cama y solucionado. El tamaño de la habitación era adecuado, podías moverte sin problema de un lado a otro sin preocuparte de toparte con algún mueble.

The beds were comfortable and the room temperature was nice. The pillow was lower than my taste, but as I was travelling solo, I grabbed the one from the other bed and problem solved. The size of the room was good, you could move around freely and without having to worry about bumping into the furniture.

Me llamó la atención el hecho de que no hubiera un armario como tal, cerrado, con sus puertas. Lo cierto es que como mi equipaje consiste en ropa de sport poco "arrugable", tampoco me suelo molestar demasiado en deshacer la maleta, pero en esta ocasión sí que llevé alguna prenda para colgar y se me hacía un poco raro tenerla que dejar a la vista colgadas de la barra.

There was no closet or wardrobe, with doors on it, which I found a bit surprising. The truth is I dress rather casual and my travel outfits are no exception. I don't like to bring clothes that are prone to creasing and usually seldom bother to really unpack, but I did bring a few items that were best kept hung and leaving them in plain sight was kinda strange for me.

En cuanto al baño, cuenta con una ducha construída del mismo material que el resto del baño, aunque con el desnivel suficiente para que no quede rastro del agua a los pocos minutos de utilizarla. En lugar de cortina, tiene una pequeña mampara de cristal, que no cubre toda la zona de la ducha. Al leer las opiniones del hotel en Internet había algunas críticas al respecto, diciendo que se ponía todo perdido. Yo no tuve problema: si tenéis un poco de cuidado y os colocáis cerca de los grifos, a los pocos minutos el agua ya ha desaparecido.




As for the bathroom, it has a shower but not a proper 'dish', meaning that is built from the same material as the rest of the floor, with a gentle slope so that the water disappears down the drain in a few minutes. Instead of a shower curtain, there's a small glass partition that does not cover the entire shower space. While reading the comments about the hotel when making my travel arrangements, a few people critisized the fact, pointing out that the bathroom was a mess. I had no problem whatsoever: if you're careful and stand near the shower, there will be no trace of water within minutes.




La presión del agua era muy buena, ya que en algunos hoteles ducharse -y de lavarse el pelo mejor no hablo- puede costarte un triunfo. Ningún problema con la temperatura del agua.
The water pressure was very good, unlike in other hotels where taking a shower -talk about washing your hair- can be quite tricky. The same goes for water temperature.

Al menos en el baño de mi habitación, no vi ningún enchufe, lo que podría ser un problema si lleváis un secador/plancha para el pelo, etc. Sí que hay uno fuera del baño, junto a un espejo de cuerpo entero.
La habitación cuenta con numerosos enchufes, por lo que no tendréis problema para enchufar vuestro ordenador o teléfono si lo necesitáis.

At least in my en-suite bathroom, there was no socket and that might be a problem if you need your hairdryer/flat iron, etc. There is one right outside the bathroom, next to a full-length mirror.
The room does have several power sockets, so plugging your laptop or cellphone won't be a problem if you need to.

El servicio de limpieza de la habitación muy eficiente. Me cambiaron las toallas todos los días, a pesar de que podría haberlas utilizado más tiempo (de hecho, yo las dejaba colgadas normalmente, no en el suelo).

Housekeeping service was very efficient too. I got fresh towels every day, even though I could have perfectly used them a bit longer (I left them on the hanger, not the floor).

En la entrada anterior comenté que el hotel está equipado con conexión WiFi gratuita, que en mi caso, funcionó perfectamente en todo el recinto del hotel: restaurante, habitación, etc. Mi teléfono detectaba las siguientes conexiones: Elektriraudtee 2105 (la estación de tren), Go Group, Go Hotels y Go Public. Yo me conecté a 'Go Hotels', con acceso protegido mediante contraseña (el tfno. del hotel).

In the previous entry I mentioned the hotel offers free WiFi, which in my case worked flawlessly regardless of where I was: the hotel's restaurant, my room, etc. My phone found the following networks: Elektriraudtee 2105 (the Railway station), Go Group, Go Hotels and Go Public. I used the 'Go Hotels', which is password protected -the hotel's phone no.

Hotel Shnelli Go -Tallinn (1)

Cuando reservé mi viaje a Tallin en mi agencia de viajes, me ofrecieron varias posibilidades de alojamiento. Siempre que puedo, me gusta conocer la valoración de los usuarios de los distintos hoteles, por lo que suelo visitar páginas especializadas en viajes como booking, tripadvisor o logitravel.
El Hotel Shnelli Go estaba entre las opciones más económicas y cumplía con un requisito que para mí era muy importante: quería que el hotel estuviera bien comunicado.

When I booked my holidays in Tallinn at my local travel agent's I was offered several accomodation options. I always try to look them up and read the feedback provided by guests staying at them, so I usually visit travel sites such as booking, tripadvisor or logitravel.
The Shnelli Go Hotel was amongst the cheapest alternatives and fulfilled a very important condition imo: I wanted the hotel to be centrally located and with easy access to public transport.

Efectivamente, el hotel es muy céntrico, está a un paso de la Ciudad Vieja (al salir del hotel, cruzad el semáforo y continuad a la izquierda, llegaréis a un pequeño cruce con un 'Kiosk'. Estáis en la calle Nunne y estáis entrando en la Ciudad Vieja).




The hotel is indeed quite centrally located, it's a short walk to the Old Town (when you leave the hotel building, cross the street at the traffic lights and then go left. You'll reach a small crossing with a 'Kiosk'. You're on Nunne street and entering the Old Town).

El hotel cuenta con 124 habitaciones de dos tipos, dependiendo de las vistas que ofrezcan: bien a la Ciudad Vieja, bien a la estación de tren (Balti jaam - Central Railway Station). En las opiniones que había leído del hotel, los usuarios recomendaban pedir habitaciones con vistas a Old Town, puesto que aparte de las vistas, eran más silenciosas. Pero se me olvidó comentarlo al hacer el registro en el hotel y me asignaron una con vistas a la estación (y como está tan cerca, tienes las vías justo debajo).
Yo viajaba sola y mi reserva era para una habitación doble de uso individual (DUI), en concreto me alojé en la 216.

The hotel has 124 rooms of two kinds, depending on the views they offer: either facing the Old Town or the train station (Balti jaam - Central Railway Station). In the feedback left by former guests, users recommended asking for one facing Old Town as, apart from the views, they were less noisy. But, I forgot to mentioned it as I was checking in and was given one facing the train tracks.
I was travelling alone and therefore my booking was for a double room to be used as a single. I stayed in room 216.

Antes de hablar más en detalle sobre la habitación, os comento que la "llave" es una tarjeta electrónica, que nos servirá para abrir la puerta de nuestra habitación, pero a diferencia de otros hoteles con este sistema en los que me he alojado, el suministro eléctrico es independiente, lo que para mí es un punto a su favor. Me refiero a que en otros hoteles, en cuanto sacas la llave del lector, no tienes luz (y no puedes dejar cargando el teléfono móvil mientras bajas a desayunar, por ejemplo).
Asimismo, la llave nos servirá para acceder a varias zonas del hotel: utilizar los ascensores, acceder al restaurante / sala de desayunos. Me parece que es un sistema muy seguro, que garantiza que tan sólo los huéspedes o el personal del hotel, puedan acceder a ellas.
Y como soy un poco manazas, me costó un poco pillarle el punto, y a veces necesitaba un par de intentos hasta que la lucecita se ponía en verde, jeje.




Before I go into details about the room itself, I'd like to mention the fact that the room 'key' is a card with a magnetic band that we'll have to use to open the door to our room, but unlike other hotels with similar systems I've stayed in, it's independent from the power supply, which is a big plus for me. What I mean is that in other hotels, you have no electricity once you take out the key card (and can't leave your mobile charging up while you go down for breakfast, for instance).
In addition, the key will give us access to several facilities within the hotel: use the lifts, get to the restaurant / breakfast room. I think it's a very safe system, in the sense that no one except for guests or the hotel staff can get access to them.
As I'm a bit clumsy, it took me a while to get the hang of it and usually needed a couple of tries until the light flashed green, lol.

El hotel dispone de otros servicios como un spa y una agencia de viajes, que no utilicé.
The hotel provides other services such as a spa or a travel agents', which I didn't use.




Evidentemente, sí que utilicé la sala de desayunos, tanto para desayunar todos los días como algún día para comer y cenar.
El comedor era bastante espacioso y aunque por las mañanas se juntaba mucha gente, sí que pude conseguir una mesa para mí.




What I did use was the breakfast room, obviously, both every day for breakfast and a couple of times for lunch and dinner.
The room was quite spacious and though there was a lot of us every morning for breakfast, I could always find a table for me to use.

El servicio de desayunos, funciona todos los días, pero el de restaurante cierra los domingos. El horario de apertura del Restaurant Travel de lunes a jueves es de 12 a 21, de 12 a 22 los viernes y sábados y como digo, los domingos cierra.
Comí y cené allí el primer día. La comida me pareció muy abundante, quizá demasiado. En el siguiente enlace, podéis ver el menú que ofrece. Yo probé el salmón con salsa de piña, acompañado de risotto y de brócoli y también la tortilla al horno (eran tortillas de tipo mejicano), rellena de filete de pollo, verduras (calabacín, pimiento, aceitunas y tomate) y queso azul.




Breakfast is available everyday. Restaurant Travel is open Mon-Thu 12:00-21:00, Fri-Sat 12:00-22:00, Sun closed.
I had lunch and dinner there the first day. I thought the servings were quite generous, maybe too generous. If you visit the following link, you can see the menu available. I tried the salmon 'Glazed salmon fillet with pineapple sauce served with butternut pumpkin risotto and baked broccoli' and also the 'Oven-baked tortilla with chicken fillet, vegetable and blue cheese stuffing -zucchini, paprika, olives, tomato'. It was Mexican-style tortillas.

En cuanto al desayuno, es de tipo buffet y me pareció correcto. Si bien para los españoles, que no gustamos de tomar salchichas, huevos y cosas así a esas horas, la oferta era algo escasa. Si acostumbráis a desayunar algo dulce, no hay más donde elegir que dos tipos de mermelada, macedonia de fruta y zumos. Hay leche y café -también podías preparte una infusión- y únicamente cereales tipo cornflakes. Como otras veces que he viajado al extranjero, he echado de menos que hubiera fruta fresca y también yogur. Aunque no tan saludable como lo anterior, me hubiera gustado que hubiera algo de bollería.
Pan sólo había de dos tipos, los dos de rebanada: pan tipo Bimbo y de centeno.





As for breakfast, it's the usual buffet service and I thought it was OK. Even so, the choices for Spaniards -not very fond of having things like sausages or eggs first thing in the morning- were somewhat limited. If you like a sweet breakfast, as is my case, there's not a lot to choose from but two different marmalade flavours, fruit salad and juices. There is milk and coffee -you could also make yourself a cup of tea- and cereals, but only of the corn-flakes sort. As other times I've stayed abroad, I've missed not having fresh fruit or yoghurt. Of the not-so-healthy type, I would have liked to have pastries of some sort.
There was only two types of bread, both in loaves, either white sandwich-type bread and rye bread.

Con todo, creo que sería raro no encontrar algo que os guste para desayunar en el buffet del hotel Shnelli Go. En la foto, podéis ver lo que desayuné yo todos los días. Como digo, aunque correcto, se me hizo algo repetitivo. Curiosamente, en casa suelo desayunar siempre lo mismo (menos cosas), pero cuando viajo me gusta ir probando todos los días algo distinto o al menos dentro de lo que me gusta -lo de las salchichas a esas horas, como que no.

All in all, I think it would be hard not to find anything you like for breakfast at the Shnelli Go Hotel. In the picture, you can see what my breakfast consisted of every day. Like I said, though correct, I found it a little repetitive. Strangely enough, when I'm at home I usually have the same breakfast everyday (less stuff than in the pic), but when I travel I like to try different things everyday or at least between the things I like -sausages first thing in the morning, thanks but no thanks...)

Resumiendo, en mi opinión, para el precio que tiene, el Hotel Shnelli Go está muy bien. Como todo, algunos aspectos son mejorables. Dedicaré otra entrada a la habitación en sí, pues esta la he orientado más a las instalaciones comunes. En un comentario, me preguntábais qué tal estaba el hotel, así que espero que esta primera parte os haya resultado útil. ;)
A título informativo, os diré que el viaje completo (vuelo CSA con escala en Praga + alojamiento AD en el Hotel Shnelli de Tallin durante cuatro noches) me salió por 575€, más barato que el otro destino que tenía en mente, Göteborg (Suecia). La opción de alojamiento más barata de Suecia, era más cara que la más cara de Tallinn. De la más cara de Göteborg, prefiero no acordarme.

To sum up, imo, for the price you can't really ask Hotel Shnelli Go for more. As with anything, there's ground for improvement. I'll write another entry dealing with the hotel room, as this one ended up focusing on the shared facilities. In a comment, you asked where I'd stayed and if I'd recommend it, so I hope you found this Part 1 useful. ;)
For information purposes, let me tell you that I paid 575 EUR for the entire trip (flight with CSA with change of planes in Prague + lodging at Shnelli Go Hotel in Tallinn for four nights), cheaper than my other alternative, Göteborg, Sweden. The cheapest accomodation there was more expensive than Tallinn's most expensive. I don't even want to recall how much Göteborg's most expensive was.

Hotel Tiergarten Berlin -Parte 2 /Part 2

En la anterior entrada, me centré especialmente en las habitaciones, así que en esta os voy a hablar del hotel en sí.

My previous blog entry focused mainly on the rooms, not so much on the hotel itself which is what I'll be dealing with today.

El hotel no dispone de restaurante con servicio de comida y cena. Sí ofrece por el contrario un excelente servicio de desayuno situado en la primera planta, si bien la comida se encuentra sólo en una de las dos salas dispuestas a este fin. De este modo, si la sala principal está llena, nos tocará ir de una a otra.
En Alemania está muy extendida la costumbre, en los establecimientos de tipo informal como un Biergarten o una terraza, el compartir tu mesa con desconocidos en función del espacio disponible.
En mi caso, viajaba con mi hermana y como parte de un grupo, así podéis aprovechar este momento para intercambiar opiniones sobre la ciudad con otras personas o simplemente disfrutar de esta costumbre tan alemana.

The hotel does not have a lunch/dinner service. It does provide an excellent breakfast, though the food is only available in one of the two rooms on the first floor used for this purpose. Therefore, if the main breakfast hall happens to be full, you may have to go from one room to the other to get what you want.
In Germany, sharing your table with complete strangers is perfectly normal, at least on informal establishments, i.e Beergardens or sidewalk cafés if the place is crowded.
Since I was travelling with my sister and as part of a larger group, this may be the perfect opportunity to exchange opinions on the city with others or simply partake in this very German custom.

La variedad de comida disponible es enorme. Al menos seis tipos de cereales, varias clases de pan y bollería, mermelada y miel, ensaladas, embutido, yogures y al menos seis variedades de frutas diferentes. Este último detalle es algo que yo suelo echar en falta cuando viajo, ya que a menudo puedes estar una semana sin ver fruta en todo el día. Lo siento, pero los zumos industriales para mí no cuentan como fruta.

The hotel offers an extremely wide range of products for breakfast. At least six different sorts of breakfast cereals, assorted bread and pastries, jam and honey, salads, cold meat, several types of yoghourt and again, at least six different fruits to choose from. This is something I find very difficult to do without when I travel, as you may spend an entire week without any fruit in sight during the day. I'm sorry but for me, juice in a carton does NOT qualify as fruit.

Hotel Tiergarten Berlin - Parte 1/Part 1

El Hotel Tiergarten de Berlín es un hotel de ambiente familiar, que cuenta con 60 habitaciones, individuales, dobles y triples. Mi hermana y yo viajamos en grupo y nos alojamos en una doble, en concreto la número 43, situada en el segundo piso. El hotel dispone de ascensor, aunque no es muy grande (tres personas, con maletas caben apretaditas).

Hotel Tiergarten Berlin is a small, cosy, privately run hotel. It has 60 rooms, single, double and triple. My sister and I travelled as part of a group and had booked a double one, and were assigned room 43 on the 2^nd floor. The hotel has a small-sized lift (with barely enough room for three people, luggage included).

Está situado en Alt Moabit, 89 y la parada de metro (U-Bahn -línea naranja U9) más cercana es Turmstrasse. Se encuentra a unos 100 metros del hotel. Para llegar a ella sólo tenéis que girar a la izquierda nada más salir de recepción y, todo recto, cruzar un semáforo.

Located in Alt Moabit, 89, closest tube station (U-Bahn -Orange Line U9) being Turmstrasse. I'd say it's about 100 m from the hotel. All you have to do to get there is turn left right after leaving Reception and go straight on, crossing the traffic lights.

En la pequeña recepción, hay un ordenador con conexión gratuita a Internet.

The small Reception hall has a computer with free online access.

Las habitaciones son amplias, están equipadas con caja fuerte, televisión tirando a grande, minibar y un estupendo despertador con números grandecitos para cegatonas como yo, que nos vino muy bien para aprovechar al máximo nuestros días en Berlín.

Otro elemento que nos vino de cine fue la mesita baja, bastante amplia, ideal para cenar algún bocadillo tras un día agotador de museos y compras.

Rooms are spacious and are equipped with a safe, a medium-sized TV, a minibar and a nice alarm clock with big numbers for short-sighted folks like me that will help you make the most of your stay in Berlin.

One item of furniture that we found most useful was the coffee table, big enough to eat some takeaway dinner at the end of an exhausting day full of sightseeing and some retail therapy.

Nuestro baño era pequeño (retrete+pequeño lavabo+ducha) aunque de un tamaño suficiente. Tenía una mampara de ducha, que no cerraba muy bien, pero que tampoco nos dio mucho problema. Un detalle que a lo mejor os hace gracia es que fueron generosos con el papel higiénico, al contrario de lo que nos pasó en Roma hace unos años, que parecía que nos lo racionaban.

Olvidaros de llevaros como souvenir algún jaboncillo con el nombre del hotel, ya que había dispensadores de jabón líquido tanto en el lavabo como en la ducha.

Our bathroom was small (toilet seat+washbasin+shower tray) but big enough to suit our needs. It had a shower cabinet, which did not close properly but not to the point of being a nuisance. One detail you may find amusing is that the staff were generous with toilet paper -unlike our hotel in Rome a few years ago, where it seemed to be rationed-.

Forget about bringing a souvenir home in the shape of a tiny bar of soap featuring the hotel's name, since both washbasin and shower tray had a liquid soap dispenser.

Un último detalle que me gustó de la habitación fue la llave: nada de esas moderneces electrónicas, una llave normal y corriente, a la antigua usanza. Al ser independiente del suministro eléctrico, os permite dejar cargando, por ejemplo, vuestro teléfono móvil mientras desayunáis.

One last detail I liked about the room was the key. An old-fashioned standard key, instead of one of those hideous electronic cards. Being independent from the power supply, you can leave the room and head for the breakfast room and for instance, charge your mobile phone in between.
