Tratamiento para uñas de Dr. Scholl / Nail treatment from Dr. Scholl

Hola de nuevo:
Como comentaba recientemente, tardaré bastante tiempo en poderme pintar de nuevo las uñas de los pies. ¿El motivo? Tengo hongos en una de las uñas del pie y el tratamiento para ello, aparte de largo y constante, requiere que la uña respire, por lo que no podré pintármelas durante una temporada.

Like I let slip recently, it'll be some time before I can paint my toenails again. The reason? One of my toenails is affected by nail fungus and the treatment is lengthy and works best if nails are unvarnished and 'breathing' and therefore I won't be having pedis any time soon.

Lo cierto es que tenía mis sospechas desde hacía un tiempo, pero puesto que hace años sufrí un pequeño golpe en los pies que hizo que se me cayeran las uñas de los dedos gordos a la vez que crecía una nueva debajo, pensé que el aspecto diferente que tenía una de ellas se debía a aquello.

The truth is I had my suspicions about this for some time, but as some years ago I had a minor accident that caused by big toenails to fall while new ones were growing underneath, and so I thought the different appearance one of them had was due to that fact.

Los hongos de las uñas suelen aparecer en personas que usan instalaciones públicas como piscinas y gimnasios, pero también por la utilización de calzado apretado (y que no permita la transpiración), exceso de sudoración, etc. En mi caso, también existe un componente genético, ya que mi madre -diabética, aunque no insulinodependiente- también tiene este problema.

Nail fungus usually appears in people who frequent public pools, gyms and showers, as well as by the prolonged use of closed footwear (impeding perspiration) or perspiring a great deal, and others. In my case, there is also a genetic ingredient to add, as my mother -who is diabetic but non insulin dependent- is suffering from it too at the moment.

En la farmacia me recomendaron este tratamiento de la marca Dr. Scholl, que empecé a utilizar a finales de noviembre, como véis en la foto del producto que incluyo arriba. Me costó 15,80€.
Lo he utilizado prácticamente a diario y sí que voy notando cierta mejoría en una zona de la uña que estaba muy amarilla, aunque como digo, soy consciente de que tendré que seguir utilizándolo aún varios meses más, ya que en la base de la uña tengo otro foco que antes era apenas visible. En la farmacia me advirtieron de que tuviera paciencia y que si seguía usándolo regularmente, pasados varios meses -hasta nueve meses, tiempo necesario para que se complete el ciclo de crecimiento de la uña- en la mayoría de los casos, el problema se solucionaba por completo.

At the chemist's they recommended this treatment from the brand Dr. Scholl which I started using at the end of November, as you can see in the product picture I uploaded. I paid 15.80 EUR for it.
I've been using it almost every day and I have indeed noticed some positive results so far, especially on the left side of the nail which was quite yellowish. I am aware though that I'll have to keep on using it over the next few months, as there's another source of infection that was barely noticeable before. My pharmacist adviced me to be patient and use the product on a regular basis. In most cases, the problem disappears in the space of several months -as much as nine months, the time required for the growth cycle of nails to be complete.

A ver si con un poco de suerte, para la primavera/verano, puedo ya volver a pintármelas.

Hoy vengo con un post de archivo, con una pedicura que lucí hace ya varios meses. Por desgracia, tardaré bastante en poderme volver a pintar las uñas de los pies. :(
Pronto os contaré porqué.

What's up?

I'm back with another 'from the vault' post, with a pedi I sported a few months ago. Unfortunately it'll be some time before I can polish my toes again. :(
I'll soon tell you why.




Aplico una capa de la base de calcio de Basic. Como la cobertura de este esmalte es bastante buena, sólo necesito una capita. No aplico topcoat, ya que me apetece hacer una estampación con alguno de los motivos de las placas de Sarah.
Al día siguiente, Marian utiliza uno de los diseños de las placas de Sarah y el stampy negro de Essence. Quizá deberíamos haber escogido algún diseño más grande. Aplico SV en los dedos gordos.




I apply a coat of Marian's calcium gel from Basic. As the coverage of this polish is very good, this pedi is a one coater. No topcoat, because I feel like trying out some image from the plates we got from Sarah.
The next day, Marian used one of the designs in Sarah's plates and the black Stampy from Essence. Maybe we should have used a bigger image. SV in my big toe nails.

Essence - Show Your Feet '#01 Caribbean Sea' (Pedicura / Pedi)

Hoy vengo con un esmalte prestado, ya que fue una de las compras de Marian hace unos meses en Beautik *aquí*. Lo utilicé hace ya un tiempo para su fin original, es decir, como esmalte para pies. Me temo que en una temporadita no voy a poder pintármelas, buahh.- :(




I'm back with a borrowed lacquer, as this was part of Marian's Beautik haul some months ago *here*. I used it for its intented purpose, i.e. a toe nail polish. I'm afraid I won't be able to polish my toes in a while, sniff.- :(

No recuerdo qué apliqué concretamente, pero creo recordar que no tuve especial problema para aplicarlo.




I don't really remember what I used exactly in this pedi, but I don't recall having a hard time applying it.

Y como el post me ha quedado hipercorto, os dejo con un poco de musiquita. Alegre, como este esmalte.

POTW/ PDLS: Paris Memories 281?

En este post os enseño la que hasta hace unas horas fue mi última pedicura. Tomé prestado de Marian uno de los esmaltes que compró en Amsterdam, en concreto éste de la marca Paris Memories que descubrimos en la droguería Dirx Drogist.




In this post I'd like to show you my most recent pedi until yesterday. I borrowed one of the polishes Marian bought in Amsterdam, in particular this from the unknown brand Paris Memories that we discovered at the Dirx Drogist drugstore.

En las fotos, llevo una capa de la base de P2. Aplico una capa generosa de este esmalte -dos en los dedos gordos, aunque la segunda muy finita. No aplico topcoat, pero secó bastante rápido.

Pasados unos días, hice un conato de estampación con una de las placas de Sarah. Digo conato porque el Midnight Kiss de China Glaze no es que sea la caña para estampar precisamente y el diseño apenas se notaba. Necesito un esmalte dorado que estampe en condiciones. A ver si me hago con uno con un poticamelleo que tengo "cocinando".

In the pictures, I have a coat of my P2 basecoat. I applied a generous one of this lacquer -two in the big toes, though the second was very thin. No topcoat, but drying time was quite fast anyway.

A few days later I had a not very successful attempt at stamping over this, using one of the plates Sarah kindly sent us in our swap. 'Attempt' is the word, as the fauxnading using Midnight Kiss from China Glaze was neither very crisp nor noticeable. I really need a proper stamping polish in gold. I'm trying to get my hands on one by means of a make-up stash deal 'in the works'.

No estoy del todo segura de que la referencia que indico sea la correcta, pero al igual que Claire's en España, estos esmaltes no llevan un nombre sino un número -cosa que odio.

No tengo idea de dónde más se pueda encontrar esta marca, aparte de esa droguería de Amsterdam.

I'm not all quite sure the ref. number I'm giving you is the right one, as like Claire's in Spain, these polishes don't have names but numbers -which I hate.

I have no idea where else -apart from this drugstore in Amsterdam- this brand can be found.

Hi-diddly-ho!

I'm back with another pedi. Do you remember the orange nailpolish I said I'd probably never wear? Well, never say never, because here it is. In fact, it's a call for the good summer weather one would expect to have these days to come back.

Si en los próximos días no estamos muy activas en la blogosfera, el motivo es sencillo: estamos de viaje unos días, así que a la vuelta volveremos con más entradas de viajes, guía de compras y demás.

If in the course of the following days we're a bit absent from the blogworld the reason's simple: we're away on holiday. You can count with some more travel-related posts, shopping guide and so on.

Essence - Colour&Go #33 'Just in case'

Hoy vengo con una entrada rapidita y "de archivo", para presentaros otro de nuestros esmaltes de Essence. En este caso, pertenece a la gama Colour & Go, que dentro de poco será la única gama de esmaltes que ofrezca Essence. Este esmalte forma parte de la colección actual de Essence, así que si os gusta, podéis haceros con él en cualquier momento.




I have another short & sweet entry for you ladies, from the vault and namely to introduce another of our Essence polishes. This one belongs to the Colour & Go range, soon to be the only nail polish range Essence will offer. This is part of the current display, so if you like it, there's no need to hurry up to get it.

En esta ocasión, lo usé para las uñas de los pies. Supongo que en alguien más moreno lucirá más, pero bueno, es lo que hay, jeje. Perdonad mis "heridas de guerra", cortesía de la actuación de flamenco -no es que los zapatos sean incómodos, es que los llevé demasiadas horas-.

I used this one on my toes this time around. I suppose it will look prettier on more tanned feet, but you'll have to settle for my Snow-white feet, lol. Please overlook my 'war injuries', courtesy of my flamenco dance shoes. Not that they are uncomfortable, I wore them for too long more like.

En las fotos, llevo una capa de base de Basic, seguida de otra de este esmalte. Con una capa lo suficientemente gruesa basta para cubrir nuestras uñas. No apliqué top coat de ningún tipo.

In the pics, I'm wearing one coat of base from Basic, followed by another one of this polish. A thick coat is enough for a decent coverage. I applied no topcoat.

PDLS / POTW: Essence Multidimension #17 'Drama Queen' (antiguo / old)

Hoy me gustaría enseñaros la pedicura que llevo esta semana, mi pequeño homenaje a la gama Multidimension de Essence que pronto desaparecerá de las tiendas. No sé deciros los años que puede tener este esmalte, pero tranquilamente puede tener seis años. Lo compré en una de las antiguas perfumerías Caoba, que luego pasaron a ser If. Lamentablemente, con el cambio retiraron el stand de Essence, que acababa de descubrir en mi tierra -situación que perdura hasta el momento.
Me cabreé tanto al enterarme, que estuve años sin entrar en If.

Meet the pedi I'm sporting this week, my personal tribute to the soon-to-be discontinued Multidimension range of Essence nailpolishes. I don't recall exactly how old this polish is, but probably at least six years old. I got this from a local drugstore/perfumery chainstore formerly called Caoba, which was later converted into If. Unfortunately for me, that meant I no longer had access to an Essence display in my hometown -we still have no Essence distributor here. I was so mad about it, it took me a few years to actually enter the new store, lol.

Día 1: Aplico una capa de base de Basic (Schlecker), seguida de una gruesa de este esmalte. A pesar de que este esmalte es bastante viejillo, la fórmula ha sobrevido en buenas condiciones a remedios caseros como echarle alguna gota de acetona al pobre en lugar de diluyente propiamente dicho. No apliqué topcoat alguno, ya que al tratarse de los pies, aguantarán bien aún sin nada.

Day 1: I applied my basecoat from Basic (Schlecker), followed by one thick coat of this. Despite the venerable age of this polish, the formula has survived pretty much OK, even with my inexperienced attempts at restoring this poor thing using acetone instead of proper thinner. I didn't apply topcoat, as usually pedis can hold fine without adding anything on top.

Curiosamente, esta semana mi madre me pidió que le pintara las uñas y escogió este mismo esmalte. A ella sí que le di Seche Vite y le aguantó muy bien unos cuatro días, incluso habiéndose lavado el pelo. Visto lo visto, creo que soy a la que menos le aguantan de la familia, jeje.

Strangely enough, my mother asked me to paint my nails for her this week and she chose this polish too. I did use Seche Vite for her mani and she's had this for about four days, having even washed her hair with it. It seems I'm the one with the worst nail polish wear in the family, lol.

Deliplus #213 - Pedicura / Pedicure

Como parte de los lanzamientos de maquillaje para este verano, la marca Deliplus que podemos encontrar en los supermercados españoles Mercadona, sacó una colección de mini-esmaltes. Podéis leer sobre ella en *este* post. De los tres esmaltes que llegaron al Mercadona que visitamos, tanto Marian como yo compramos este tono verde que ahora os enseño.

A collection of mini polishes hit (and quickly vanished from) the shelves of Mercadona, as part of the Spanish supermarket's 2011 summer releases in its make-up line Deliplus, found exclusively there. You can read more about it in *this* post. Off the three that made it to the store we went to, both Marian and I brought the following green shade home.

Día 1: Recíén comprado y como nos puede el ansia, lo estrenamos. Por la noche a última hora, aplicamos una capa de base de P2 y dos capas en el dedo gordo y una en el resto. Ningún topcoat, ya que es bastante tarde y el cutre-top coat de Essence que estamos deseando acabar ablanda el esmalte cosa mala y no es plan. Queda muy bonito en los pies.

Day 1: I used this the same day we got it, ;) Late at night, we applied one coat of my P2 base and Marian gave me two coats on my big toes and one in the rest. No top coat as it was quite late already and the crappy topcoat from Essence we're dying to use up for pedis would have softened it and it would have taken a lifetime for it to dry. It looks very pretty on your toes.

Definición del color en palabras de Marian: 'verde quirófano'. Efectivamente, es del mismo tono de los uniformes que viste en España el personal de quirófano. Ahora es cuando estaréis pensando: “Estas dos están para que las encierren”. Casi, jeje. ¿No nos creéis? Pues como una imagen vale más que mil palabras, aquí está la prueba. Que conste que si hubiera estado nuevo, el parecido se notaría aún más.

According to Marian, this shade is best described as an 'operating-theatre green'. Erm?? It's the same shade of the uniforms worn by medical staff- i.e. Surgeons, nurses, et al.- at an operating theatre here in Spain, we promise. Yeah, I now what you're thinking. -'These two have finally lost it!'-. Almost, hehe. Don't believe us? An image speaks louder than words, so here's some photographic evidence. If the uniform were brand new, it would be an even better match.

Se me parece al 'Jade is the New Black' de OPI, pero como no lo tengo tampoco pondría la mano en el fuego. Pero viendo las fotos que hay de él en Internet yo diría que son muy parecidos. Os dejo un enlace a The Nail Polish n00b para que veáis el de OPI.

It reminds me of 'Jade is the new black' from OPI, but since I don't own that one I wouldn't bet my life on it. Judging by the OPI swatches I've found on the net, I'd say they're pretty close. Visit The Nail Polish n00b for a swatch of the OPI.

El esmalte, como básicamente cualquiera que usemos en los pies, aguantará hasta que nos cansemos de él o nuestros pies necesiten una pedicura.

This polish-as any we apply on our toes, will wear well on us, basically until we get tired of it or until it's time for our next pedi.

Os dejo con otra foto colorida. Gadi, para que veás el "arte" que tiene la Molly. Que conste que pensábamos que sólo había estado sentadita admirando la obra de "la yaya", luego descubrimos que también quiso dar salida a su vena artística.

Ahora se encuentra descansando, en el lavabo otra vez. Hoy le tocaba visita al veterinario (vacunas) y suele estar un poco de bajón luego.

Here's another, ermm, colourful pic. For the record, we thought Molly was just admiring my mother's (her granny, lol) artistic talent but then we discovered that she had decided to give her own artistic skills a go.

She's now resting, inside the washbasin again in case you're wondering. She went to the vet this afternoon for her vaccines and is usually a bit in low spirits after that, so to speak.

Nuestros esmaltes de OPI (I) - Our OPI nail polishes (I)

Tras la serie dedicada a los esmaltes de China Glaze que tenemos, os iremos mostrando los que tenemos de otra de las marcas más populares en todo el mundo: OPI.

Al igual que los de China Glaze, los adquirí a través de Ebay (UK) a una vendedora que los ofrecía como parte de un lote de tres. No se trata de un vendedor habitual de este tipo de artículos, sino de alguien que puntualmente puede tener alguno de colecciones pasadas a la venta. De esos tres, yo me quedé dos y mi hermana uno -como véis nos llevamos bien y compartimos las cosas, jeje.

El lote aparecía listado como 'nuevo' pero francamente, sospecho que sí que estaban usados. No es que me importe -la vendedora española a la que le compré el lote de CG decía claramente que estaban usados una vez- pero el esmalte reseco en el cuello del bote no miente.
Lo habría reflejado en mi voto, pero cuando llegó el paquete a casa de mi hermana a mí me pilló de vacaciones en casa de mis padres y no me di cuenta hasta que regresé.
Sí que vino muy bien protegido, en un sobre de airbag y envueltos individualmente, si la memoria no me falla.

After the series we've written about the China Glaze polishes that we have, we'll be showing with you the ones we have from another of the most popular brands worldwide: OPI.

Just like our China Glaze's, I bought them off Ebay (UK) and were part of a lot of 3. I didn't buy them from a seller specialized in nailpolishes, just one that occasionally may have some from past collections for auction. Of the 3, I kept 2 and my sister the other -so as you can imagine we get on well and don't mind sharing, hehe.

The lot was listed as 'new' but honestly I have my doubts that was really the case. Not that I mind -the Spanish seller I bought the China Glaze lot clearly specified they were used once -but dry polish on the bottle neck doesn't lie. I would have made that clear in my feedback but when the parcel was delivered at my sister's I was on holiday at my parent's and obviously I didn't realise until I came back.
It did come well protected, in a padded envelope and individually wrapped, if my memory serves me right.

No me enrollo más y os enseño el primero de ellos:
* I'm Indi-a Mood for Love: Como véis, se trata de un tono rosa bastante "potente", sin ningún tipo de brillito. Pertenece a la colección dedicada a La India que salió hace algún tiempo, en 2009.



Without further a-do, here you are the first one: *I'm Indi-a Mood for Love: Needless to say it's a very bright pink, very in-your-face with no shimmer and a cream/jelly finish. It was part of the 2009 India Collection.

Ya digo que el color es 'potente' y como no me atrevo con colores tan llamativos en las manos, lo he usado en los pies este invierno. Sí, digo invierno porque yo me suelo pintar las uñas de los pies también en invierno, aunque no tenga oportunidad de lucirlas mucho. Es la manera de 'mover' ciertos esmaltes y según te estás duchando... se ven supergraciosos los pies con las uñitas pintadas. ;)



Like I said it's a very bold colour and quite out of my comfort zone to wear it on my hands, so I used it this winter for pedis. Yes, I said winter because I usually polish my toes in winter too even though I don't get to show them off really. It's my way of 'moving' certain polishes and I like to look at my lacquered toes when I'm in the shower. They look supercute! ;)

A pesar de que como sospecho, los esmaltes estaban usados no tuve ningún problema con la aplicación. En la foto llevo una capa de esmalte base (de Basic/Schlecker), otra capa generosa del de OPI y una capa de esmalte de acabado de Essence, que como no me gusta nada estamos aprovechando para las pedicuras. Evidentemente, en los pies dura perfecto mucho más que en las manos, básicamente hasta que os canséis de él.

Even if my suspicions are right, I had no complaints regarding the application. In the picture I'm wearing base coat (by Basic, available from Schlecker), followed by a generous coat of this OPI and a coat of one of Essence's top coats which I don't like at all and which we're trying to get rid of in pedis. Needless to say, durability in your toes exceeds by far that in a mani, so basically you'll be wearing this until you get tired of it.

Ya casi se me había olvidado (menos mal que mi hermana está para recordármelo) que tenía que hacer una entrada sobre mi esmalte de China Glaze.
Es el tono "Strawberry Fields", y es el único que queda por enseñaros de ese lote de 3 que mi hermana consiguió en Ebay España.

I almost forget (it's just as well that my sister has reminded me) that I had to write a post about my China Glaze nail polish. It's the shade 'Strawberry Fields', and it's the one that completes the pack of 3 that my sister got from Ebay Spain.


El pie que veis en la foto es el de mi hermana, que tuvo a bien hacer equilibrios con el bote del esmalte para que la foto quedara más artística.

You can see my sister's foot in the pic. She had the brilliant idea of doing a balancing act with the bottle, just to get a more artistic picture.



Me parece un color muy bonito para lucir mis pies este verano (eso que mis pies no son precisamente bonitos).

I think this colour is really beautiful to show my toes this summer (despite the fact my feet are quite ugly).
