Diréis, ¡menuda entradita más rara que nos traen éstas dos hoy! Pues sí, para que lo vamos a negar, pero es que como dice mi madre: "Los hijos de los pobres, listicos". Se van acercando las vacaciones y con ellas, el momento de empezar a pensar en posibles viajes.

You'll probably be at odds now, wondering what a weird blogpost these two have in store for us today! Yeah, that's true, but as our mum would say: 'The children of the poor would rather be smart!!'. Holidays are getting closer and with them, having to think about possible travel destinations.

Como creo que ya hemos comentado en algún Tag, Marian desarrolló una alergia a todo tipo de setas hace ya bastantes años. Lo peor es que -al menos las setas- le encantaban.
Esto puede ser un problema especialmente cuando viajamos, sobre todo a un país en el que tenemos que hablar en otro idioma o peor aún, ni siquiera lo conocemos. Con el paso de los años y tras unos cuantos viajes, hemos aprendido -a veces por las malas, porque "porcini" no era cerdo, ¿verdad Marian?- a decir la palabra "seta" y similares en unos cuantos idiomas.

As you probably read on some Tag, Marian developed an allergy to all kinds of mushrooms many years ago. The worst part is that - at least, as far as wild mushrooms are concerned - she liked them very much.
This can be a problem when you travel, especially if you travel abroad and have to speak a different language or even worse, you do not speak it at all. Throughout the years and after several travel experiences, we've learned -sometimes the hard way, i.e. 'porcini' was not 'pork' after all, was it Marian?- how to say 'mushroom/wild mushroom' and so on in quite a few languages.

Marox tiene que hacer de "Malinche/Malinalli (Marina)" en todos los sentidos, probando el plato de Marian en busca de elementos sospechosos y ante la duda, permutar los platos para tranquilidad de ambas. Y extranjero que hable otro idioma y con el que tengamos un poco de confianza, le pedimos siempre que nos escriba la frasecita en cuestión, por si algún día visitamos su tierra.

Marox sometimes has to play the role of 'Malinche/Malinalli (Marina)' in every way, doing a test sampling of Marian's dish in search of any suspicious ingredients and when in doubt, trade her dish and have Marian's instead. And any foreign language speaker we meet and are at least slightly acquainted with, we always ask them to please translate the said piece for us, just in case we ever visit their homeland.


Aunque no hablemos ciertos idiomas, siempre podemos escribirnos en una tarjetita una frase explicando nuestro problema para mostrarla a los camareros en un restaurante, así como otras palabras que hagan referencia a distintas especies de setas y champiñones, para identificarlas rápidamente en los ingredientes de un menú y evitar disgustos posteriores.


Even though we may not even really speak the language at all, you can always copy or print a sentence stating your problem in a small card for you to flash to waiters in a restaurant, as well as write down other words used for different mushrooms species. That way, you can spot any potential harmful ingredients in a restaurant menu before it is too late.

En nuestra experiencia, el tema de las alergias alimentarias se lo suelen tomar bastante en serio, aunque en la República Checa se debían pensar que "ser alérgica a las setas" significaba "no me gustan las setas". A ver, si no me gustan, para coger el tenedor y apartarlas del plato no necesito ayuda de nadie. Pero ante una alergia, si queda cualquier rastro de las mismas, ya sea en el jugo que han soltado, implicará estar unas horas más tarde abrazada a la taza del váter y pasar el resto del día y la noche recuperándome.

In our experience, food allergies are usually taken with all due respect and in earnest. In the Czech Republic though they seemed to think 'being allergic to mushrooms' meant 'I don't like mushrooms'. Let me get this straight, if I don't like mushrooms, I'm old enough to use my own fork to put them aside, BUT, the difference in this case is that if there's any trace of them left, either in the juice they released already, a few hours later that will equal spending a good while hugging the toilet seat for dear life and spending the rest of the day and night recovering.

2. Aunque nosotras creemos que no nos parecemos tanto, hay gente -incluso familiares- que nos confunden tanto en persona como por teléfono. Incluso una vez un señor nos paró por la calle para preguntarnos si éramos gemelas. Deberían hacer una campaña gratuita de graduación visual, jeje.
2. Though in our opinion we don't really look alike, some people -even relatives- can't tell Mar from Marian, either in person or by phone. A man once stopped us on the street just to ask if we were twins. I think there should be an eye-check campaign, lol.

3. Nos encanta viajar, aunque lo hacemos en vacaciones, no por trabajo como Salander. Nos encanta planear hasta el último detalle, en especial a marox. Ahora mismo estamos preparando otro a cierta capital europea. Y siempre intentamos sumergirnos un poco en el ambiente local, así que no esperéis vernos en un McDonald's. Gracias a nuestros viajes, Marian sabe decir que es alérgica a las setas, champiñones y similares en seis idiomas. Si queréis, podéis contribuir a su particular diccionario.
3. We love to travel, but always when we're on holiday, not for work like Salander. We love to plan everything about them to the last detail, especially Marox. We're currently preparing for another one to a certain European capital. And we always try to blend in with the locals as much as possible, so don't expect to see us at a McDonald's. Thanks to our trips, Marian knows how to say that she's allergic to any kind of mushroom in six different languages, lol. Feel free to contribute to her 'dictionary'.

4. Con todos los respetos, no nos gustan los tatuajes. Ese dibujo tan estupendo que te haces a los 30, lo vas a seguir teniendo a los 80. Por no hablar de que hay que tener mucho cuidado con ellos -algunas mujeres con tatuajes en la parte baja de la espalda, no pueden ponerse la epidural cuando dan a luz; tampoco se puede donar sangre, por ejemplo-.
Marian ya tiene suficientes tatuajes con sus múltiples lunares, que tiene que vigilar a menudo.
4. With all due respect, we don't like tattoos. That nice design you get on your thirties, will still be there when you're 80. And you have to be very careful and forward-thinking with them -many women with tattoos on the lower back can't get epidural anesthesia when they go in labour; or give blood, for instance-. Marian thinks her many moles are enough; she has to keep an eye on them quite often.

5. A Marian le encantaría poder calzarse unos taconazos de aguja de esos que quitan el hipo. Lamentablemente, sus delicados pies no se lo permiten. Todo lo más, tacón de 4 cm, y con buena base, para no torcerse el tobillo.
5. Marian would love to put a pair of breathtaking high heels on. Unfortunately, her delicate feet don't let her do it. Just 4 cm heel maximum, with safe base, to avoid ankle twists.

6. Una "asignatura pendiente" de marox es aprender a patinar en línea. A Marian no le disgustaría tampoco, sobre todo porque dicen que se ponen unas piernas estupendas, jeje.
6. One of Marox's 'unresolved matters' is to learn in-line skating. Marian wouldn't mind to learn, mainly because it is said you can get gorgeous legs, lol.

7. A Marian le gusta mucho la fotografía. No sé si los genes tendrán algo que ver, pero nuestro abuelo era fotógrafo y nuestro padre también se dedicó a la fotografía durante años (ahora ya no). A marox también le gusta, pero dice que no tiene paciencia ni para leer el manual de instrucciones.
7. Marian loves photography. I don't know if genes will have something to do with it, but our late grandfather was a photographer and our father also worked as a photographer for years (he doesn't anymore). Marox also likes it, but she says that she's not patient enough to even read the user manual.

TAG - Esmaltes / Nail polishes

Misch, una de nuestras primeras seguidoras, nos pasó el testigo de *este* cuestionario con 22 preguntas sobre esmaltes, que pasamos a contestar a continuación.

Misch, one of our first followers passed *this* tag onto us, a questionnaire with 22 questions about nail polishes we will answer below.

1. ¿Cuántos esmaltes tienes? / How many nail polishes do you own?

marox: 54 esmaltes y otros 17 entre los que incluyo bases, esmaltes de acabado (crackling, mate, etc), para estampación y manicura francesa, lo que haría un total de 71. Entre los esmaltes en sí, habrá unos seis de 'el año el pedo' que hace siglos que no uso. No he sumado las últimas compras de Tallin y demás.
Marian: 37 esmaltes y otros 19 entre bases, esmaltes de acabado crackling, mate, top coats, estampación y manicura francesa.

marox: 54 nail polishes and another 16 between base, top coats (crack-effect, matte, etc), stamping polishes and french manicure. The grand total would be 71. Among those 54, there's probably about 6 asoldasthehills shades I haven't used for ages. I'm not counting the latest additions from Tallinn et al.

Marian: 37 nail polishes and another 19 between base coats, crack-effect, matte, stamping and french manicure.

2. Dónde guardas tus esmaltes? Where do you store your nail polishes?

marox: Los tengo repartidos entre varios sitios -las cajas que os he enseñado *aquí* y *aquí*, además de en una balda de un armarito del baño en casa de mis padres.

Marian: Los tengo guardados en un cajón de la mesilla de mi habitación. Todavía caben todos juntos ahí.

marox: They're stored around the house, in several places -like the boxes I showed you *here* and *here*. The others are on a shelf inside a bathroom cabinet at my parents'.
Marian: They're stored in a drawer of the bedside table in my bedroom. They still fit there all together.


3. De qué colores tienes más? From which colors do you own the most?

marox: La verdad es que tengo un poco de todo -últimamente intento no repetirme al comprar-, pero prefiero aquellos que se puedan considerar adecuados para llevar al trabajo, ya sean claros u oscuros.
Marian: Gracias a mi hermana, he ido comprando esmaltes de colores variados, pero los que más abundan son aquellos en tonos granates y morados. También tengo bastantes en colores discretos.

marox: Well, I think I have a little bit of everything -I'm trying to avoid similar colours when I'm looking for something to buy in front of the display-, but I tend to favour work-appropriate shades, both light and dark (vampy, wine shades, for instance).

Marian: Thanks to my sister, I've purchased polishes in a varied range of colours, but most of them are in deep red and purple shades. I also have some light colours.

4. Qué color te gusta menos? Which color of polish is your least favorite?

marox: Yo diría que el negro a secas, lo veo demasiado "gótico", supongo. Tengo un naranja de Claire's que dudo que use jamás. Que conste que lo compré porque tenía que escoger algo rápido por una oferta que tenían.

Marian: los colores que menos me gustan para esmaltes son amarillo, naranja o verde claro.

marox: I'd say a plain, creme black, I guess it's too 'goth' for me. I have an orange from Claire's I'll probably never use. For the record, I only picked that up because I was pressed to choose one more polish for some offer they had.
Marian: the colours I like the least for nail polishes are yellow, orange and light green.


5. Qué tipo de acabado te gusta más? What is your favorite finish?

marox: Más o menos, yo diría que me gustan todos: tengo varios duocromo, foil y cremosos que me gustan mucho. Los brillos sutiles -en dorado, sobre todo- me gustan mucho también. Me apetece probar algún holográfico, aunque no sea muy evidente.

Marian: los acabados foil y duocromo me parecen una pasada. Y para los colores sólidos, el acabado mate creo que les sienta muy bien.

marox: I'd say I like them all. I have some duochrome, foil and creme polishes I like very much. I also love a polish with a subtle shimmer to it -gold, preferably-. I'd like to try some holo, no matter if the holo effect in it it's not very pronounced.
Marian: I love foil and duochrome polishes. And for fast colours, I think that matte effect is great.


6. Cuándo empezaste a pintarte las uñas? When was the first time you painted your nails?

marox: Creo que tendría unos quince. Empecé con los tonos naturales, hasta que descubrí el granate/vino, aunque me las pintaba de forma muy esporádica.

Marian: No lo recuerdo muy bien, pero creo que a los veintipocos, pero sólo en ocasiones especiales: cenas con compañeros de trabajo y cosas así. Desde hace un año más o menos, me las pinto con más frecuencia.

marox: I must have been about fifteen. I started with very light, natural colours, until I discovered deep reds/maroons. I didn't paint my nails often.
Marian: I can't remember exactly, but I think it was at my twentysomething, but just on special occasions: dinners with workmates and so on. I polish my nails more often since last year.


7. Cuántas veces te pintas las uñas en una semana? How many times a week do you paint your nails?

marox: Normalmente, dos veces. Una de un tono claro y la siguiente de otro más intenso. Las dejo sin pintar casi dos días.

Marian: Una vez, y después de retirar el esmalte, las dejo descansar unos días.

marox: Usually twice a week. One in a lighter shade and the next a more intense colour. I usually let them rest for almost two days.
Marian: Once a week. And after removing the polish, I usually let them rest for some days.


8. Cuál es tu top coat favorito? What is your favorite topcoat?

marox: Creo que no os sorprenderá si digo que el Seche Vite. En mi caso, aprecio especialmente lo 'vite' del secado, más que el que me dure el esmalte más días. Tengo ganas de probar el de la 'Better than gel nails' de Essence, que hablan muy bien de él.

Marian: Coincido con mi hermana. Seche Vite es el mejor topcoat del mundo mundial.

marox: I don't think my saying Seche Vite will surprise you. As for me, I really appreciate how 'vite' it dries, more than it making the polish stay longer on my nails. I'd like to try the 'Better than gel nails' from Essence everyone raves so much about.
Marian: I agree with my sister. Seche Vite is the best topcoat in the entire world.


9. Qué quitaesmalte utilizas? Which nail polish remover do you use?

marox: Tengo varios, normalmente con y sin acetona. Para los tonos claritos, no me importa frotar un poco más; para los oscuros cojo directamente uno con acetona. Hace poco he empezado uno 'sin' de Essence con olor a mora, creo, que me regaló Marian. Con acetona, tengo uno hidratante de Cutex. Tengo muy mal sentido del olfato y curiosamente, el olor a acetona no me molesta lo más mínimo, es más, prácticamente me tengo que poner el algodón o disco debajo de la nariz para olerlo. El de la lejía no lo soporto y lo huelo de lejos.
Marian: Tengo uno hidratante de Cutex a punto de terminarse, y otros dos o tres también en las últimas. También tengo uno sin acetona de Avon. Cuando se acaben, todavía no tengo claro cuál compraré.

marox: I have several, usually with and without acetone. For light colours, I don't mind scrubbing a bit; for darker shades I reach for one with acetone. I recently opened an acetone-free remover from Essence -berry scented, I think- that I got from Marian. The other one is a nourishing acetone-based remover from Cutex. Strangely enough, I have a terrible sense of smell and the smell of acetone doesn't bother me at all. I almost have to put the cotton pad right under my nose to actually notice it. On the other hand, I can't stand the smell of bleach and can smell it from a good distance.
Marian: I have a nourishing one from Cutex and two or three more about to go over.
I also have one acetone free from Avon. When they go over, I still don't know which one I'll be buying.

10. Cuál es tu marca de esmaltes favorita? What's your fave polish brand?

marox: Me encanta Essence. En relación calidad-precio, creo que no se les puede pedir más. Bueenoo, quizá que se animaran a sacar acabados diferentes, o que nos dejaran explicarles lo que todas entendemos por 'holográfico'. Y puestos a pedir, que estuvieran presentes en más tiendas. Aquí en mi tierra no hay y me lo tiene que traer mi hermana de contrabando.

Marian: Aquí también coincido con mi hermana. Essence: tiene buena relación calidad-precio, y me resulta fácil de conseguir.

marox: I love Essence. It wins hands down in the price-quality stage. You can't ask for more, can you? Erm, well... I could do with them getting out of their comfort zone and trying out different finishes or filling them in into what everyone understands by the term 'holographic'. And last but not least, I definitely wish they were present in more stores. There's no Essence display in my hometown and my sister has to smuggle it for me and be my Essence stash-dealer.
Marian: I agree with my sister again. Essence has a good price-quality rate, and it's easy to get for me.


11. Alguna marca que no te guste? Any brand you don't like?

marox: Claire's no me acaba de convencer. Sus esmaltes son una lotería en mi opinión. Y eso de no saber a ciencia cierta la referencia del esmalte me pone mala. En EEUU les ponen nombre, ¿por qué aquí no?.

Marian: más que marcas, algún esmalte en concreto. Hay un esmalte de Deliplus que me resulta un tanto farragoso de aplicar.

marox: I'm not a big fan of Claire's. Their polishes are a bit like playing Russian roulette, imo. And I hate the fact that you're never sure about the reference number in them. These have names in the States; why not here, I wonder.
Marian: more than brands, certain polishes in particular. There is a polish from Deliplus which I find quite hard to apply.


12. Prefieres la uñas largas o cortas? Do you prefer long or short nails?

marox: Un poco largas, pero desde luego no XXL. Con todos los respetos, me recuerdan a las de las brujas de los cuentos y no me parecen nada prácticas para el día a día. Por otra parte, con ellas ultracortas (si alguna se me rompe, cruzaré los dedos), me siento una inútil total.

Marian: Hasta hace poco tiempo, siempre he llevado las uñas muy cortas, pero desde hace unos meses, me las estoy dejando un poco más largas, dándoles la forma que me gusta.

marox: A bit long, but definitely not XXL-sized or talons. With all due respect, I can't help but think of fairytale witches and don't think these are very practical in your everyday life. On the other hand, whenever I've had an ultrashort nail (after a breakage, I'll keep my fingers crossed), I feel completely useless and even the simplest of tasks seems rather trying.
Marian: I always had very short nails, but for a few months, I've been letting them grow a bit, giving them the shape I like.


13. Cuál es tu esmalte rojo favorito? What's your favorite red polish?

marox: Comenzamos la parte más complicada del tag, ¡mira que es largo! Haciendo los chuaches de las ruedas, veo que sólo tengo uno 'rojo, rojo' y no lo uso a menudo. Necesitaba un "rojo flamenco" y me compré el nº 40 de Deliplus. Ese esmalte ostenta el récord de durarme la friolera de seis días, con dos lavados de pelo incluídos (al segundo dijo 'basta')... sin base ni topcoat (cuando aún no sabía lo que era eso). Podríamos decir que es mi récord Guiness particular. La hazaña no se ha vuelto a repetir. ¿Sería la suerte del principiante?. A ver si os lo presento pronto.

Marian: Aunque aún no lo he estrenado, uno que me compré en Madrid de H&M. No recuerdo el nombre.

marox: We're reaching the hardest part of this looong tag. While doing the nailwheel swatches I realized I don't have but one and don't use it too often. I do have wine-reds and all that, but I needed a 'flamenco-red' and got no. 40 from Deliplus. It has the honour of lasting an astonishing six days on me, having washed my hair twice with it (it said 'Enough' by the second) ... no base or topcoat (that was before I even knew what that was, anyway). It was my own Guiness record, lol. The feat has not been repeated again. Was it a first-time lucky kind of thing? I'll try to share it with you girls soon.
Marian: Although I haven't used it yet, it's one from H&M I bought in Madrid. I can't remember the name.


14. Tu rosa favorito? Fave pink?

marox: ¡Jo, qué difícil! ¿Aceptáis un empate entre el nº13 de Deliplus y el 253 de Kiko? Sólo los he usado una vez, pero me han gustado mucho cómo quedaban.

marox: Umm, tricky. Do you accept a tie between Deliplus 13 and 253 from Kiko. I've only used these once, but liked how they looked on me very much.

15. Tu morado favorito? Fave purple?

marox: Pues esta sí que es complicada, me gustan mucho los morados. Umm, creo que me quedo con el 'Where is the Party?" de los Colour & Go de Essence. Estarían bien que sacaran más tonos DUOCROMO o tornasolados como éste. Me tienta probar el clon del Paradoxal del Claire's y el 'Poison Me, Poison You' de Catrice que compró mi hermana en Berlín, sin estrenar.

marox: This is getting trickier, lol. I love a good purple. Umm, I think 'Where is the Party?' from the Essence's Colour & Go line. It would be nice if they released more DUOCHROME shades like this. I'm dying to try the Claire's Paradoxal dupe and 'Poison Me, Poison You' from Catrice which my sister got in Berlin from our untrieds.

Marox: Ahora mismo, no tengo un favorito.

Marox: 'All Access' de Essence, que por desgracia retiraron hace tiempo.

18. Tú marrón/gris favorito? Your fave grey/brown?

Marian: 'Walk of fame' de Essence. Tiene un color entre marrón y gris, el famoso color topo.

Marox: El 'Walk of Fame' es muy bonito como marrón y como gris, el London's Weather Forecast me pareció un color muy peculiar. El gris de Kiko me gustó mucho también. Lo sé, soy una indecisa.
Marox: 'Walk of Fame' is really nice in the brown segment and as for grey, I thought 'London's Weather Forecast' was very special too. I liked the light grey I have from Kiko too. I know, I'm not very good at making up my mind about things, lol.


19. Y nude? And nude?

marox: Dentro de lo que yo considero nude, osea, un tono discretito, otro empate entre el 51 de Rival de Loop y el 'Clay-ton my Hero'. También tengo uno de OPI muy mono. Lo bueno de esos tonos es que si te empiezan a descascarillar, no se nota demasiado.

Marian: No sé si 'nude', pero discreto. Sería el 'Insider', de Essence.

marox: From what I understand by nude, i.e. a subtle tone, we have another tie between Rival de Loop 51 and 'Clay-ton my Hero' from Catrice. I have a very cute one from OPI. The good thing about those is that when they start peeling, it's not very noticeable.
Marian: I don't know if it's nude, but discreet. It'd be 'Insider', from Essence.


20. Y naranja/melocotón/amarillo? What about orange/peach/yellow?

marox: No tengo ninguno. Siempre que fueran muy claritos y no necesitaran aplicar un montón de capas para terminar quedando supercantosos, quizá me anime con alguno. Bueno, tengo ese naranja de Claire's, pero miedito me da probarlo. Al hacer el chuache en la rueda veo que es bastante pigmentado, quizá me anime después de todo.
Marian: No tengo ninguno, porque no me gustan esos colores.

marox: I have none. As long as they were very light and didn't need a gazillion coats to end up being too in-your-face, I wouldn't mind giving them a try. Well, I have that orange from Claire's. I'm afraid of opening the bottle, do you think it'll bite? When I did the swatches on the nailwheels it seemed nicely pigmented, so I might give it a try one day.
Marian: I have none, because I don't like those colours.


21. Cuál es tu TOP5 de esmaltes ahora mismo? What are your TOP5 polishes right now?

Marox: Ostras, sólo cinco. Sin ningún orden en particular: Rival de Loop 51, Deliplus 13, P2 'Rich & Royal', Midnight Kiss de China Glaze y Welcome to the Jungle de Catrice (que llevo ahora mismito, ya en las últimas en el pulgar derecho).
Marox: Blimey, just five. Ok, in no order in particular, something like the following: Rival de Loop 51, Deliplus 13, P2 'Rich & Royal', Midnight Kiss from China Glaze and Welcome to the Jungle from Catrice (which I'm wearing right now, with a huge chip on my right thumb, btw).

Marian: Diré cuáles son mis 5 esmaltes favoritos, pero sin un orden; quiero decir, no es que el primero me guste más que el resto. Serían: 'Poison me, poison you', de Catrice, 'Strawberry Fields', de China Glaze, el 'Midnight Kiss' de China Glaze (de mi hermana, pero me encanta), el 'Mania' de Rimmel y el 'Underwater' de Essence. He puesto estos, pero también hay otros que me gustan mucho.

Marian: I will say my 5 favourite polishes, but in no particular order, I mean: the first one is not the best for me. They are: 'Poison me, poison you', from Catrice, 'Strawberry Fields', from China Glaze, 'Midnight Kiss' from China Glaze (it's my sister's, but I love it), 'Mania' from Rimmel and 'Underwater' from Essence. I chose these ones, but there are many others I like very much.

Marian: De fácil aplicación, cubriente, brillante y que seque rápido.
