Inglot Amsterdam - 'Lo que pudo haber sido y no fue / What could have been... but wasn't'

Continúo con los post sobre las tiendas de cosmética y droguerías que visitamos en Ámsterdam con Inglot, que supuso una DECEPCIÓN TOTAL. ¿Las palabras 'Inglot' y 'decepción' en una misma frase? Ahora mismo os imagino y os estáreis haciendo de cruces. Pues si queréis saber el porqué, seguid leyendo.




I'm back with yet another post about the beauty stores and drugstores we visited in Amsterdam and today is Inglot's turn and you'll be in for a shock when I tell you that was a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. The words 'Inglot' and 'disappointment' together in the same sentence? No way!! I guess that's what you're probably thinking right now. Well, if you want to know why, keep on reading.

Antes de nuestro viaje, como parte de las indagaciones que hacemos siempre que viajamos fuera (hoteles, restaurantes, etc) nos estuvimos informando también de sitios interesantes para ir de compras, principalmente de poticompras, jeje. Consultando la web de Inglot, descubrimos que la marca polaca de maquillaje profesional -con la que gente como Wayne Goss o nuestra Adriana de Colourful Randomness e Isa de Amigas Makeup, entre otras, llevan tiempo poniéndonos los dientes largos- tenía tienda en Ámsterdam. Así que igual que nos empapamos de críticas de posibles hoteles y demás, nos dimos unas cuantas vueltas por la blogosfera y youtube, leyendo opiniones y viendo colores.
Nos las prometíamos muy felices regresando a España con nuestros Duraline y una paletita de sombras (al ser los precios en Ámsterdam mucho más caros, nos conformábamos con una de cuatro sombras). Yo me había hecho ya la ilusión de hacerme con el negro mate de Inglot, para los looks flamencos y para qué negarlo, porque es un imprescindible. ¿Les suena 'El cuento de la Lechera'?

Before the holidays, as part of the research we always do when we travel abroad about the different hotels, restaurants and so on, we spent a few days checking out the 'go to' places to go make-up shopping, lol. On the store locator on Inglot's corporate website, we saw they had a store in Amsterdam and decided we'd definitely be paying it a visit. This professional make-up brand from Poland has been very much talked of lately, first by Wayne Goss and then by many others like our Adriana from Colourful Randomness or Isa from Amigas Makeup, who have been praising this brand and making us drool in front of the computer screen every now and then. We therefore read lots of reviews and saw endless swatches and were already taking for granted our flying back home with our coveted Duraline and eyeshadow palettes. The Amsterdam store is pricier than the Inglot stores here in Spain, so we'd decided to settle for a 4-eyeshadow palette. I literally dreamt to have Inglot's matte black eyeshadow for my flamenco stage looks and well, because a good black eyeshadow is a must-have, an investment. Does 'The Milkmaid's Tale' ring a bell?

Por más que busqué, fui incapaz de encontrar información sobre el horario de la tienda y sigo sin saberlo. ¿Tan difícil sería poner un *puñetero* cartelito en la puerta con los horarios de la tienda, Sres. de Inglot Amsterdam? El primer intento fue en nuestro cuarto día, tras visitar los museos de la zona (Rijksmuseum, Diamant y Van Gogh) y si queréis ese día hasta tuvimos 'suerte'. Sí, la tienda estaba cerrada, pero las dependientas estaban dentro, limpiando y recogiendo. Había luz dentro y ya sabéis lo que dicen de que si hay luz, hay esperanza. Eran las cinco y cuarto, si mal no recuerdo, así que supusimos que cerraban a las cinco. ¡A las cinco de la tarde! ¡Españolas, cáiganse de espaldas! Me apuesto el cuello, a que a esa hora ABREN las tiendas de Murcia o Canarias. ¿¿¿Pero cuándo leches van las amsterdamesas de compras con esos mini-horarios??? O quizá la pregunta debería ser ¿cuándo trabajan? Para que luego los españoles tengamos fama de vagos. Yo estuve trabajando en una multinacional hace años y teníamos horario de 9 am a 6pm, con sólo una hora para comer -aunque el 99.9% de las veces salíamos a las 8pm y de horas extras pagadas, nanay.
Sí, coordinar el hacer turismo con ir de compras en Ámsterdam es complicado.
Hicimos fotos del escaparate de la tienda y Marian creía vislumbrar el Duraline. Fotos del careto que se nos quedó no hicimos, no.

After endless queries online, I could not find any info about the store's opening times and I still don't have a clue now. Dear Inglot Amsterdam folks, is it sooo very hard to put a *damn* doorsign with that info??? We first tried on Day 4, after visiting the museums in the area (Rijksmuseum, Diamant and Van Gogh) and in a way, we were even 'lucky' -ironic mode ON- that day, as the store was closed but the employees were still inside, cleaning and tidying up. There was light inside and you know what they say, when there's light, there is hope. It was quarter past five, so we assumed the store closed at 5pm. At five friggin' pm, ladies!!! I'd bet my life that's the time the Inglot stores in Spain OPEN. When on earth can Amsterdam ladies go shopping with such crazy timetables?? Or maybe the question should be, when do they work?? Because I used to work for a multinational company for some years and we had to work 9am to 6pm, with just a one-hour lunchbreak. And 99.9% of days we had to stay until 8pm, without them paying overtime. Think about it the next time you read about Spaniards being lazy workers!!
Yes, combining sightseeing and shopping in Amsterdam can be a little bit trying.
We took photos of the store from outside and Marian swears she had spotted the Duraline. And no, we didn't take pics of our sorry, disappointed faces.




Así que el quinto día decidimos ir sobre seguro e ir a Inglot primero y pensamos que a las 10.30 tendría que estar abierta la tienda por narices. ¡Pues NO! Nos dimos una vuelta por Vondelpark, y ya pasadas las 11 desistimos, no sin antes soltar algún improperio. Lo peor, es que ése día ni siquiera había luz dentro, la reja estaba bajada... Vamos, que aquello estaba más muerto que una momia. Lo que más rabia nos dio es que con un simple cartel en la puerta con los horarios, nos podríamos haber ahorrado el viaje. ¡¡Tan fácil como eso, Sres. de Inglot!




So the next day, we decided to play it safe and check out Inglot first and thought the store was sure to be open at 10.30. Guessed wrong, it WASN'T!! We took a walk around Vondelpark and we gave up entirely a few expletives later, at about ten past eleven. The store was pitch black, the bars were down... not good. The thing was as dead as an Egyptian mummy. The worst thing is that we could have spared the journey had they had an info board with the opening times. As easy as that, Inglot folks!!

Y colorín, colorado, así termina este cuento, sin final feliz.
And so the story ends. No happily ever after.

Intercambio con / Swap with: Spellbinding Nails

El mes pasado participamos por primera vez en un intercambio. La elegida fue Sarah Louise, una de nuestras primeras seguidoras y responsable del blog Spellbinding Nails en el que casi a diario nos ofrece coloridas manicuras creadas con alguna de las placas de estampación de su interminable y siempre creciente colección.
Pero Sarah ansiaba ampliar esa colección con dos placas más, en concreto con dos placas de Essence -marca, por cierto, que no se vende en el Reino Unido- algo difíciles de encontrar. En nuestro último viaje, marox se hizo en Kruidvat con un par para ella y compró otro pensando en un posible intercambio.

Last month we did a swap for the first time. Sarah Louise, one of our first followers and the person behind the blog Spellbinding Nails was the chosen one. In her blog, you'll find colourful and almost daily manis featuring designs from her endless (and evergrowing) image plate collection. But Sarah had set her eyes on two more plates for some time, in particular two of the Essence plates that happen to be a little bit HTF. Btw, Essence is not sold in the UK but thankfully for her, Marox got from Kruidvat a pair for herself and another one with a possible swap in mind.

Sarah nos ha mandado esmaltes de algunas de las marcas que podemos encontrar en el Reino Unido, como Models Own, o 17 y W7 de las droguerías Boots. Como teníamos ganas de tener un esmalte holográfico al estilo del de Gosh, Sarah nos ofreció como alternativa uno de Marks & Spencer que tiene muy buena pinta. No es tan superholográfico como el de Gosh, lo que por otra parte tiene sus ventajas, ya que así es más ponible.


Sarah has sent to us a few polishes from some of the brands available in the UK, such as Models Own, 17 or W7 from Boots. As we wanted to have a more linear holo like the now HTF Gosh Holographic, Sarah suggested this from Marks & Spencer as a good alternative and indeed it is. It looks very nice and though it's not as in-your-face holo like the Gosh one, so much the better, as it makes it much more wearable.

Pero su paquete no sólo contenía esmaltes: también nos ha mandado dos placas con unos diseños muy bonitos y que a buen seguro usaremos pronto. Cada una de ellas contiene diseños de dos tamaños, los más grandes son tan grandes que son perfectos para las uñas del dedo gordo del pie. Hay más cositas de nail art: unas pegatinas con forma de corazón del kit de 17 y unas ¿calcomanías al agua? de VivaLaNails. También nos ha mandado un rotulador con pincelito con aceite hidratante para uñas y cutículas, que Marian está deseando probar. También hay una bolsita zip con unos adornitos para las uñas muy cucos: gatitos, mariposas, etc. Supongo que se pegarán a la uña con un poco de pegamento o esmalte.

But her package did not contain merely nail varnish: she also sent us two image plates with some cute designs we'll probably use very soon. These contain designs in two different sizes, the biggest ones are so big that will work great to use on the big toe. There are more nail art items: heart-shaped stickers as part of the 17 nail art set and a couple of water decals?? from VivaLaNails. She also enclosed a nail care pen with a brush on one end with nourishing oils for cuticles and nails that Marian is very eager to try. There was also a small ziplock bag with the cutest nail décor ever: cats, butterflies, etc. I suppose they'll get stuck to the nails with some glue or nail polish.



Y como a nadie le amarga un dulce, pues nos mandó una bolsa de gominolas, que como véis, nos ha faltado tiempo para estrenar y hacerle el pertinente contol de calidad. Lo han aprobado con nota, jeje.

And as we say here, sweet things never made anyone bitter, so she also sent a bag of gummies that we couldn't help opening to perform the customary quality control. They passed with merit, lol.

UDLS/NOTW: Catrice 'Poison me, poison you'.

Este que os enseño hoy es uno de los primeros esmaltes de Catrice que compré, concretamente en Berlín. Me encanta el color, pero paradójicamente, no lo había estrenado hasta ahora. Así que había llegado el momento.

The polish I'm showing you today is one of the first from Catrice I bought, specifically in Berlin. I love the shade, but, strangely enough, I'd never used it until now. So the time had finally come.

Apliqué una capa de base de P2, dos capas finas de este esmalte y otra de Seche Vite encima.

Tanto la aplicación como la cobertura son muy buenas.

En cuanto a la duración, perfecta. Me pinté las uñas el jueves por la noche, y ayer lunes en los dedos índice y medio de la mano derecha, tenía pequeños desconchones. Y es que un esmalte de uñas resista un lavado de pelo no es fácil. Eso sí; la mano izquierda, intacta.

I applied one coat of my P2 base coat, two thin coats of this polish and another one of Seche Vite on top. Both the application and coverage of this polish are excellent.

And what about durability? I'd say it's perfect. I polished my nails last Thursday evening, and yesterday (it was Monday), I had some minor chipping on my index and middle fingers of my right hand. The fact is that it's a bit difficult for a nail polish to withstand a hair wash. But the polish on the left hand remained intact.

Como no quería despintármelas todavía, les dí otro toque con el esmalte dorado de acabado craquelado de P2.

As I didn't want to remove the polish just yet, I gave my nails a twist with the golden crackle polish from P2.

De compras por Amsterdam - Amsterdam Shopping Guide (II) : Etos

En la primera parte *ver*, os hablé de la cadena de droguerías más conocida de Holanda/Bélgica, Kruidvat, que si bien es muy conocida, no tiene tanta presencia en Ámsterdam como la que os voy a presentar a continuación.

Las droguerías Etos tienen un montón de tiendas en Amsterdam, raro será si no os topáis con al menos una docena de ellas. No se encuentran sólo en las zonas más comerciales, sino que también podéis ver algunas en las estaciones de tren, como es el caso de Amstel Station.




In Part one *click here*, I talked about the most popular drugstores in The Netherlands/Belgium, Kruidvat, and the spotlight today is to introduce another drugstore to you, one not as popular as Kruidvat but which has a lot more stores.

Etos drugstores are everpresent in Amsterdam, so I'd say I'd be surprised if you don't see a dozen of them during your stay. They're not only found in the more touristy streets or the main shopping areas, but also in other places like train stations, as in Amstel Station for instance.





La variedad de marcas que ofrece quizá no es tan llamativa como Kruidvat (Essence, Catrice), pero aún así merece la pena entrar. Dispone de su propia marca de maquillaje, Etos, de precio similar a Essence. Lo único que compramos fueron los sets de minilápices de ojos de edición limitada y unos pigmentos que tenían rebajados. A diferencia de los de la línea normal, estos lápices pigmentaban muy bien. La mayoría de los productos tienen tester, así que antes de arrasar, probadlos primero.
Aparte de Etos, vimos por primera vez un mueble de la marca Miss Sporty, de precio y estética similar a Essence y que a pesar de ser una marca ¿española? -del grupo Astor, sospecho-, no tenemos en España hasta donde yo sé. Al igual que Essence y Catrice, también saca ediciones limitadas.

The assortment of brands available is perhaps not as interesting as what Kruidvat has to offer (Essence, Catrice), but it's definitely worth a visit. They have their own line of cosmetics, Etos, similar to Essence pricewise. The only stuff we got was the mini eyepencil sets that were LE items and a couple of loose powders that were discounted. Unlike the eyepencils in the standard assortment, these had great colour payoff. There are testers available, so make sure you swatch the products first before you go crazy buying. Besides Etos make-up, we saw for the first time a Miss Sporty display, which is odd considering the brand is made in Spain (by the Astor group, if my suspicions are right) but is not available here as far as I know. Like Essence & Catrice, they also have limited editions.

Otra marca interesante que encontramos en Etos y no en Kruidvat es MNY, la línea de colorido joven y a buen precio de Maybelline. Los muebles no son grandes, pero están muy aprovechados. De MNY me traje en esta ocasión un esmalte marrón oscuro con brillos dorados de la EL Bikini Babe. Lo he estrenado justo ayer, así que ya os comentaré qué me parece en una futura entrega de UDLS.




Another brand available at Etos but not Kruidvat that is worth checking out is MNY, Maybelline's younger sister brand offering lots of colour at friendlier prices. The displays are not very big but have everything you may need. I got another nail polish from MNY, from the Bikini Babe LE. It's a dark brown polish with golden shimmer to it. Have tried yesterday, so you'll get to read how I like it in some forthcoming NOTW post.

En Etos encontramos una marca curiosa, que vimos también en otras droguerías y perfumerías de la ciudad, Black Opal. Se trata de una marca pensada específicamente para las mujeres de color, que imagino no siempre encuentren tonos que destaquen en su piel dentro de las marcas habituales. No me fijé en precios, pero imagino que tengan un precio medio.

There was another brand we were introduced to, Black Opal, present in other drugstores and perfumeries throughout the city. It's specifically conceived for black women, whom I suspect will not find all their colouring make-up needs met by the most widely available brands. I didn't pay attention to prices, but I'd say it was within the average.

Pasar por la sección de minitallas es un peligro, porque seguro que os apetece probar algo. Yo me llevé una mini manteca corporal de guayaba y fruta de la pasión y una espuma para el pelo de Etos. También compramos un kit de tres tarritos de viaje, que siempre vienen bien para poder llevar vuestras cremitas favoritas de viaje en un envase más pequeño.

Taking a look at the travel-size aisle is tricky, as you always end up getting something. I couldn't resist buying a guava & passion fruit mini body butter as well as a styling hair mousse. We also got a set of travel-friendly jars which are great for carrying your favourite face products in a more convenient format.

Al igual que nos pasó en Kruidvat, Marian alucinó con la sección de parafarmacia, donde es posible adquirir algunos de los medicamentos más socorridos tipo paracetamol, o también parches de nicotina y antihistamínicos para las alergias.

As in Kruidvat, Marian was amazed by the OTC drugstore section, selling common medicines that don't require a prescription and they had stuff like paracetamol, nicotine patches and antihistamines for allergies.

Así que ya sabéis, si alguna vez tenéis la oportunidad de entrar en una, echad un vistazo.

HAZLO TÚ: ORGANIZADOR DE PAÑUELOS/BUFANDAS – DIY: SCARF ORGANIZER.

Aquí estoy de nuevo con otra de mis entradas de “Hazlo tú”. Seguro que empezábais a echarlas de menos, ;-)

Esta vez, también es otra idea de “eLDiaRioDeDreah” (creo que he puesto bien las mayúsculas).

En esta ocasión, se trata de un organizador de pañuelos/bufandas.

Here I am again with another post of my 'DIY' series. I'm sure you were beginning to miss them ;-)

This time I also borrowed the idea from 'eLDiaRioDeDreah' (I think I've put the capital letters in the right place). It's a scarf organizer.

Esto es lo que vais a necesitar:

*Una percha (de las de tintorería).

*Anillas para cortina.

*Tenazas.

*Lana.

*Tijeras.

This is all you'll need to make it:

*A coat hanger (those from the dry-cleaner's are OK).

*Rings for curtains.

*Pincers.

*A hank of wool.

*Scissors.

En primer lugar, quitamos las argollas de las anillas para cortina. Si tenéis mucha fuerza (tanta como la chica del vídeo en el que me basé), podréis quitarlas con las manos. Como yo no tengo tanta fuerza, me ayudé de las tenazas. En el vídeo, ella quita todas las argollas menos las de las anillas que van unidas a la percha. Estas últimas las abre con las tenazas. Yo lo intenté, pero no fui capaz, así que al final, quité todas las argollas.

First of all, unscrew all the little rings from the curtain rings. If you're strong enough (like the girl in the video), you can do it by hand. As I'm not that strong, I used the pincers. In the video, she unscrews all the rings except those over the ones which will be joined to the coat hanger. She opens those with the pincers. I tried to, but I couldn't, so I ended up unscrewing all of them.

Después, uní las anillas entre sí. Para ello, corté hebras de lana de unos 30 cm cada una, y doblé cada una por la mitad, de manera que queda una especie de lazo con el que “cazar” las anillas. Luego hay que dar la vuelta con cada uno de los cabos en sentido contrario (al menos yo lo hice así), y luego atamos por detrás, y cortamos el sobrante (dejamos aproximadamente 2 cm de distancia entre el extremo y el nudo).

Repetimos este paso hasta que unimos todas las anillas: hacemos una fila de 4, otra de 3, otra de 2 y una anilla al final. Y luego, unimos todas las filas de la misma manera.

Afterwards, I put the rings together. I cut some wool threads about 30 cm long each, and I bent each one in half, leaving some kind of a lasso to 'hunt' the rings. Now take each thread and turn them around in the opposite direction (at least I did it that way), and then tie them on the back side, and cut off the excess (leaving approximately 2 cm between the knot and the end of the thread).

Repeat this step until you have all the rings joined: make a first row of 4 rings, a second one of 3, the third one of 2 and only one ring at the end. Then, put all the rows together.

Para terminar, hay que unir las 4 anillas de la fila superior a la percha. Corté 4 hebras de lana, y simplemente dí varias vueltas a la hebra y anudé los extremos.

Now join the upper row of 4 rings to the coat hanger. I cut 4 threads of wool, and I just turn it several times and I tied the two ends.

Y ya está terminado el organizador. Ahora sólo tenéis que meter vuestras bufandas y/o pañuelos, y estarán ordenados y a la vista.

And the scarf organizer is finished. Now just hang your scarves, so they'll be stored and at a glance.

Si queréis daros un caprichito, en la capital holandesa encontraréis también tiendas especializadas como La Savonnerie, Rituals, Make Up Store, Kiehls, MAC y MAC Pro, Inglot y demás.

I'd like to share with you another Amsterdam-related post and today it's time to tell you about the must-go places for makeupholics who want to be pretty without spending a fortune.
If you want to splurge, the capital of The Netherlands has plenty of places to do so: La Savonnerie, Rituals, Make Up Store, Kiehls, MAC and MAC Pro, Inglot and many others.




En cuanto a droguerías, quizá la más conocida e interesante sea Kruidvat. Allí podéis encontrar tanto Essence como Catrice, Gosh, una selección de productos de Sally Hansen, Casuelle, además de las habituales marcas de perfumería como Max Factor o L'Oreal. Tiene una sección muy maja de miniaturas -no tan exagerada como en el DM- con productos tanto para el cabello como para el cuerpo. Incluso tienen protector solar en tamaño mini, ideal para las que les gusta viajar ligeras de equipaje pero no descuidan su piel bajo el sol.
De la sección de miniatura, compramos espuma para el pelo y protector solar.




As for drugstores, the best-known and interesting is probably Kruidvat. That's the place to go if you want to buy Essence, Catrice, Gosh, as well as selected items from Sally Hansen, Casuelle and other universal brands like Max Factor or L'Oreal. They have a nice selection of travel-sized products -not as big as the German drugstores DM- with both hair and body care items. They even had mini sunscreens, perfect for those who want to travel light but don't want to take risks with their skin under the sun.
We got styling mousse and a sunscreen from the travel-size section at Kruidvat.






Si os gustan los jabones sólidos, los tenéis de muchos tipos y muy bien de precio. En la foto, una reliquia, el jabón Maja. Nuestra abuela paterna usaba la colonia y olía... rarito.
And if you like solid soaps/beauty bars, there are many different ones and they're very reasonably priced. Pictured, a relic from the past, Maja soap bar. Our grandmother on my father's side used the cologne and the scent was... weird.



Como única nota negativa, comentar que no hay tantas como esperaba. En total, creo que visitamos cuatro o cinco, las dos primeras sí que estaban en el centro, dentro de la zona más turística y comercial. Las fotos que ilustran este post corresponden a la tienda de Nieuwendijk 160. Más o menos céntricas, visitamos también las de Regulierbreestraat 22 y la de Ferdinand Bolstraat 33-39. El último día, como nuestro vuelo salía por la tarde, nos acercamos hasta las de Van Woustraat 98-102 y la Rijnstraat 53-55-57, que eran las que quedaban más cerca de nuestro hotel, el Casa 400. Están relativamente cerca, aunque tenéis un paseíto hasta allí.
En los tickets, no figura el nombre de la calle, sólo el número de sucursal, pero creo que fueron esas. *Kruidvat en Amsterdam*

The only downside I can come up with is the fact that there are not as many Kruidvats as I expected. The first two stores we visited were indeed in the city centre, in the most commercial streets. The pictures included in this post were taken at the one on the Nieuwendijk 160. More or less centrally located, we also went into those located in Regulierbreestraat 22 and Ferdinand Bolstraat 33-39. If I'm not mistaken, the last two we visited during our last morning in Amsterdam were those located in Van Woustraat 98-102 and Rijnstraat 53-55-57, which were the closest ones from our hotel, the Casa 400. Close, but not too close, as you have a nice walk ahead of you.
Although we keep the tickets, there's no address on them, just the store number, but we're pretty much sure. *Kruidvat stores in Amsterdam*

Our giveaway deadline expired yesterday and we sorted out the winner a short while ago, among a total of 18 participants. As we did with our first giveaway, we've picked out the winner from a handwritten list and filmed it. If you want to know who the lucky winner was, just press 'Play'.

La ganadora tendrá de plazo hasta el lunes a medianoche para responder a nuestro e-mail y facilitarnos su dirección. De no ser así, volveríamos a hacer el sorteo entre el resto de participantes.
