Hola chicas: 

Aquí estoy con una manicura. Mejor no os digo de cuándo es porque ya me da vergüenza.

Creo recordar que usé dos capas de esmalte sobre la base y que usé topcoat encima para protegerlo.

Las manicuras me suelen durar en condiciones 3-4 días y no suelo notar grandes diferencias entre una marca y otra.

Como esta entrada es corta hasta para mí, os dejo con un poco de música para amenizarla.
Se trata de Lilt, una joven banda australiana y su temazo 'Wait No More'.

It's mani time today. I'd better not tell when I actually wore this, or I'd blush from shame.

I seem to recall I used two coats of this polish on a coat of base and topped with some topcoat.

Manis usually last 3-4 in decent condition on me and I seldom notice any major differences between brands.

This post is short even for my standards, so I'll make up for that by sharing some music with you. It's from a new Aussie band, Lilt, and it's their single 'Wait No More'.

Hazlo tú/DIY: Pasta de dientes - Toothpaste.

Después de buscar en Internet varias recetas para hacer pasta de dientes casera, aquí os traigo ésta que quiero compartir con vosotras.

Ingredientes:

*2 cucharadas de aceite de coco.
*2 cucharadas de bicarbonato de sodio (yo he usado un poco menos).
*10-15 gotas de aceite esencial de menta: éste es de uso interno. Lo compré en *esta* tienda, de la que ya os hablaré.
*10 gotas de Stevia líquida.

El aceite de coco es sólido a temperatura ambiente. Así que, para que nos resulte más fácil mezclar todos los ingredientes, he metido el botecito de cristal en el estaba haciendo la mezcla (y que será el envase definitivo) en el microondas durante unos segundos a máxima potencia.
Yo lo puse sólo 10 segundos. No se trata de que se vuelva líquido, y mucho menos de que hierva. Simplemente es para que se derrita lo suficiente como para que podamos mezclar bien todos los ingredientes. Lo he mezclado con una espátula de plástico.

Y esto es todo. Así de fácil y rápido podéis hacer vuestra propia pasta de dientes en casa.

La textura es un poco extraña, acostumbrados como estamos a las pastas de dientes comerciales, pero no me ha resultado un inconveniente en absoluto.

Así que si os gusta hacer vuestra propia cosmética y tenéis los ingredients, animaos con esta receta.

After searching the Internet for several homemade toothpaste recipes, here's this one I'd like to share with you.

Ingredients.

* 2 tbps coconut oil
* 2 tbps bicarbonate of soda (I used a little less)
* 10-15 drops of mint essential oil - mine is suitable for consumption. I bought it from *this* store I'll talk about soon.
*10 drops of liquid Stevia.

Coconut oil is solid at room temperature.
So, to mix all the ingredients more easily, I put the small glass bottle I was mixing them in into the microwave for a few seconds at maximum power. Just 10 seconds.
The point isn't to melt or bring the coconut oil to boil. It's just meant to make all the ingredients easier to mix. I used a plastic spatula for that.




And that's it. You can make your own toothpaste at home. Quick and easy.

Maybe the texture is a bit weird for a toothpaste, but it works great. You'll get used to it soon. It's not a con at all.

Libros / Books: El domador de leones - Camilla Lackberg

Hoy os traigo la reseña del último libro que he leído en español. Se trata del número 9 de la serie ambientada en Fjallbacka de la escritora de novela negra Camilla Läckberg.
Os dejo con un resumen publicitario de la novela.




NO VEAS EL MAL. Corre el mes de enero en la tranquila localidad costera de Fjallbacka. Una joven medio desnuda deambula sin rumbo por el bosque en pleno invierno. Cuando consigue alcanzar a la carretera, aparece un coche de la nada que no consigue detenerse a tiempo.
NO ESCUCHES EL MAL. La víctima, una chica que llevaba desaparecida cuatro meses, ha sido sometida a graves torturas. Por desgracia, el detective Patrik Hedstrom sospecha que el caso no ha hecho más que empezar.
NO HABLES DEL MAL. La policía pronto descubre que han desaparecido otras tres chicas de las localidades cercanas, pero carecen de pistas que seguir. Pero la mujer de Patrik se topa con un antiguo caso de asesinato que parece guardar relación con dichas desapariciones y el detective debe analizar el caso desde una perspectiva totalmente distinta.


Como en otras novelas, la acción arranca con el descubrimiento de una joven desaparecida, que es atropellada y fallece a causa de las heridas.
Su aparición reactiva la investigación de varios casos similares en varias regiones, lo que obliga a los policías de Fjallbacka a colaborar con los de dichos lugares para poder resolver el caso.
Por otro lado, nos encontramos a la escritora Erica Falck trabajando en una nueva biografía, la de una asesina recluída en una cárcel de mujeres, que sorprendentemente se niega a hablar de su caso.
Como ya imaginaréis, ambos casos terminan cruzándose, pero Läckberg siempre consigue sorprendernos con el cómo y el porqué, a pesar de que creamos que sabemos por dónde van a ir los tiros.

Si os gusta la novela negra, Läckberg es un clásico que no puede faltar entre vuestras lecturas.

Today I'm reviewing my latest read in Spanish. It's book 9 in the Fjallbacka murder series by Swedish crime writer Camilla Läckberg.
As usual, here's the promotional abstract for the novel.

SEE NO EVIL It's January in the peaceful seaside resort of Fjallbacka. A semi-naked girl wanders through the woods in freezing cold weather. When she finally reaches the road, a car comes out of nowhere. It doesn't manage to stop.
HEAR NO EVIL The victim, a girl who went missing four months ago, has been subjected to unimaginably brutal treatment - and Detective Patrik Hedstrom suspects this is just the start.
SPEAK NO EVIL The police soon discover that three other girls are missing from nearby towns, but there are no fresh leads. And when Patrik's wife stumbles across a link to an old murder case, the detective is forced to see his investigation in a whole new light.

Like in previous installments in this saga, the book begins with the discovery of a missing person who this time is run over by a car and later dies as a result of her injuries.

The girl's appearance revives the investigation of a series of related cases in different Swedish regions, forcing the Fjällback police department to work alongside other colleagues if they really want to crack the case.

On the other hand we have writer Erica Falck working on a new project, the biography of an imprisoned woman who amazingly refuses to discuss her case.
You probably see this coming, yes, both cases are related but Läckberg time and time again hides a few aces up her sleeve regarding how and why they are connected even when we think we know where she's going with the story.

If you enjoy crime novels, Läckberg's a modern classic whose books you shouldn't miss.

Hazlo tú/DIY: Crema corporal casera - Homemade body cream.

¡Por fin!
Ya quedan un poco lejos las entradas de mis compras a Vitacost, para cuando empezara a hacer mis pinitos en eso de fabricar mis propios cosméticos.
Por fin ha llegado el momento.

Se me terminó la manteca de moringa de The Body Shop. Reutilicé los envases (el de moringa y otro más que tenía guardado), después de bien limpios y desinfectados.

Después de buscar en Internet recetas de cremas corporales caseras, *ésta* fue la que más me gustó.

Para hacer esta crema necesitaréis:

*1 taza de ingredientes líquidos tipo agua: Yo he utilizado 200 ml de agua destilada y 50 ml de agua de azahar.
*1 taza de ingredientes tipo aceite.
-1/3 de aceites sólidos: coco, karité, cacao...
Yo utilicé aceite de coco y manteca de karité.
-2/3 de aceites líquidos: Yo utilicé aceite de oliva virgen extra. Y también unas gotitas de aceite de vitamina E.
*28-30 gr de cera de abejas.
*Unas gotas de aceite esencial de vuestra elección (opcional): Yo usé árbol de té, jazmín y lavanda.




En primer lugar, se mezclan muy bien al baño María los ingredientes tipo aceite junto con la cera de abejas, hasta que esté todo bien disuelto. Entonces, se aparta del fuego y se deja enfriar.



Ahora hacemos la crema. La haremos como si fuera una mayonesa. En el vídeo utiliza una batidora de vaso. Yo he utilizado una batidora de brazo.
En el vaso de la batidora, echamos los ingredientes tipo agua. En este momento, añadimos los aceites esenciales.
Batimos durante unos segundos.

Echamos muy lentamente nuestra mezcla de aceites y batimos como para hacer mayonesa.

Una vez hecha la crema, conservar a temperatura ambiente alejada de la luz. Dura varios meses en perfecto estado.




Como podréis imaginar, ya la he utilizado.
Es la mejor crema corporal que he probado. Quizá me ha quedado con el olor un poco fuerte, pero no me importa.
Hice una para mí y otra para mi hermana, que también la ha probado y le ha gustado, aunque ella la suele mezclar con otra porque dice que así le resulta más fácil extenderla.

Os diré que me está gustando esto de hacer mis potingues. Poco a poco iré puliendo la técnica, jeje.

At last!
It's been quite a long time since my Vitacost Haul posts for my forthcoming homemade cosmetics recipes.
Today is the day!

I used up the moringa body butter from The Body Shop and I reused the bottles (the moringa one and another one I kept in a safe place), once cleaned and sanitized.

After looking for homemade body cream recipes, *this one* was the best for me.

To make this cream you will need:

*1 cup of watery ingredients: I used 200 ml of distilled water and 50 ml of orange blossom water.
*1 cup of oily ingredients.
-1/3 cup of solid oils: coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter...
I used coconut oil and shea butter.
-2/3 cup of liquid oils: I used extra virgin olive oil and a few drops of vitamin E oil.
*28-30 gr of beeswax.
*A few drops of your desired essential oil (optional): I used tea tree, jasmine and lavender essential oils.

First of all, heat the oily ingredients together with the beeswax using the double boiler method, until all these ingredients are completely melted.
Then, put away from the stove and let it cool.




Now make the cream the same way you make mayonnaise.
The woman in the video uses a stationary blender jar. I used a hand blender instead.
Put the watery ingredients in the blender container and then add the essential oils and blend for a few seconds.




Then slowly add in the oily ingredients and blend like you would do when making mayonnaise.

Once the cream is made, keep away from direct light at room temperature. 
It lasts some months in perfect conditions.


As you can imagine, I've already tried this cream.
It's the best body cream I've ever tried.
Its scent may be a bit strong, but I don't mind.
I made one for me and another one for my sister. She has tried it and she likes it, although she mixes it with another one, as she finds it easier to spread that way.

I can tell you that I'm quite enjoying making my own cosmetics. I'll keep on refining my skills, lol.

Receta / recipe: Magdalenas de algarroba - Carob muffins.

Hola, chicas:

Soy una golosa, lo sé.
Seguro que estáis en plena "operación bikini", y yo os traigo una receta dulce.
Bueno, yo la comparto ahora. Vosotras podéis probar a hacerla cuando queráis.

Ingredientes:

*200 gr de harina de trigo.
*50 gr de harina de algarroba.
*3 huevos.
*175 gr de azúcar.
*65 gr de leche.
*125 gr de aceite de oliva.
*1 sobre de levadura.
*1 cucharadita de licor (opcional).

Preparación (con Thermomix).

Poner el azúcar en el vaso y pulverizar 20 segundos, velocidad 5-10.
Incorporar los huevos, la leche, el aceite y el licor. Programar 10 segundos, velocidad 5.

Agregar las harinas y la levadura y mezclar 10 segundos en velocidad 3.

Llenar con la masa 3/4 de cada molde de magdalena.

Precalentar el horno a 180ºC con calor abajo.
Espolvorear con azúcar (yo no lo he hecho) e introducir en el horno 20 minutos aproximadamente.

No sólo tienen una pinta estupenda, sino que además, están riquísimas.

I have a sweet tooth, I know.
I'm sure you're in the middle of your 'bikini challenge slimming plan', and here I come with a sweet recipe.
Well, I'm sharing this now. But you can make this recipe whenever you want.

Ingredients:

*200 gr wheat flour.
*50 gr carob powder.
*3 eggs.
*175 gr of sugar.
*65 gr of milk.
*125 gr of olive oil.
*1 sachet of baking powder.
*1 teaspoon of liquor (optional).

Preparation (with Thermomix/Bimby).

Put the sugar on the Thermomix bowl and turn it into powder. Blend for 20 seconds, ons speeds starting from 5 to 10.
Add the eggs, milk, olive oil and liquor. Set 10 seconds, speed 5.

Add in the wheat flour, the carob powder and the baking powder, and mix for 10 seconds on speed 3.

Fill 3/4 of each muffin mould with the batter.
Sprinkle them with sugar (I didn't), and bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 180ºC.


Not only they look delicious, they are also  really yummy too.

Libros / Books: "Vamos a comprar mentiras" / 'Let's buy some lies', de José Manuel López Nicolás.

Hola, chicas:

En esta ocasión, el libro del que os voy a hablar no es una novela, como solemos hacer.

Es un libro de divulgación científica, pero escrito de forma amena. Tan amena, que su lectura engancha.

Habla de alimentos y cosméticos desmontados por la ciencia; o dicho de otro modo, cómo la publicidad de muchos de estos productos consigue engañarnos hasta límites insospechados.
Y son productos que vemos todos los días en el supermercado, la perfumería, la parafarmacia...

Este libro trata de abrirnos los ojos ante estos temas. No es que nos disuada de comprar tal o cual producto. Simplemente nos da la información para que seamos nosotros quienes decidamos.
Evidentemente, no nos creemos que por utilizar la máscara de pestañas que anuncia la actriz de moda, se nos van a poner como las pestañas postizas que luce en el anuncio.
Hasta ahí llegamos.
Pero no siempre es tan obvio..., hasta ahí puedo leer.

No sé si a día de hoy podréis encontrar este libro en formato digital. Marox lo buscó, pero no lo encontró.
Mi hermana me lo regaló en formato papel, como pudísteis ver *aquí*.
Por cierto, que en mi ejemplar la encuadernación deja bastante que desear.
Lo compró en Amazon.

This time I'm not reviewing a novel as we usually do, but a popular science book.

The book is well written, in a way that makes it highly entertaining and addictive.

It discusses food and cosmetics and debunks some of their so-called benefits, exposing the way advertising is used to fool us to an extent we can barely imagine.
And we're talking about products we see everyday in shelves at the supermarket, the drugstore, the chemist's...

The book aims to be an eye-opener for consumers and raise awareness. It does not intend to prevent us from buying a certain product and simply give us the information to make an informed decision.
Obviously, we don't think that using that mascara, our lashes will look like those falsies worn by this or that A-list actress.
We're not that stupid.
But it's not that obvious. I can't tell you more.

I don't know if you could find this book as an ebook. She tried to, but couldn't find it.
My sister gave this hardcover to me for my birthday, as you could see *here*. She got it from Amazon Spain.
By the way, the bookbinding is quite messy.

Hazlo tú/DIY: Jabón líquido para la lavadora - Liquid laundry detergent.

Hola, chicas:

En esta ocasión voy a compartir con vosotras esta receta que vi en *este* video, sobre cómo hacer jabón líquido para la lavadora.
Casero, y más respetuoso con el medio ambiente que los comerciales.

Para hacerlo necesitaréis:

*150 gr de jabón de Castilla: sí, ese que se hace con sosa cáustica, agua y aceite reciclado.
*1 litro de agua.

Tenía unas cuantas porciones de jabón de Castilla, pues hace años, mi madre hizo jabón "del de toda la vida".
Este jabón es genial para eliminar de la ropa las manchas rebeldes, antes de meterla en la lavadora.

Para hacer este jabón líquido, primero hay que rallar el jabón de Castilla. Yo, para ir más rápido, he utilizado la Thermomix.




Después, poned a hervir el agua. Cuando esté hirviendo, tenéis que verter el jabón ya triturado y remover hasta que se disuelva.




Según se va enfriando, va adquiriendo una consistencia más espesa. Ya sólo tenéis que echarlo en el envase definitivo.
Yo he aprovechado los envases vacíos del detergente líquido comercial.
Así, reutilizamos envases.

Bueno, después de echarlo en el envase definitivo y que se terminara de enfriar, se quedó como una gelatina, y no había manera de utilizarlo, porque aquello no se movía.
¿Solución? He añadido más agua, he puesto el envase junto al radiador (últimamente me está dando más servicio que sólo para calentar la casa), y sólo he tenido que agitar la botella, y listo para usar.
Ya lo he usado y la ropa ha quedado muy limpia.
Si descubro otra variante de esta receta con la que el jabón no se solidifique tanto, os lo diré enseguida. Seguiré investigando.

Today I'd like to share with you this recipe that I spotted in *this* video on how to make liquid laundry detergent for your washer. It's homemade and more environmentally friendly than store-bought ones.

To make it you'll need:

*150 gr of Castille soap: yep, the one you make with caustic soda, water and reused oil.
*1 litre water

I had a few Castille soap bars lying around that my mum made some years ago.
This soap is great at removing stains as a prewash treatment.

In order to make this detergent, first you need to grate the soap bar. To speed up this step, I used the Thermomix food processor.

I then put water to the boil. When it reaches boiling point, it's time to add in the soap and then stir until it melts off.



As soon as it cools off, the mixture becomes thicker. All you need to do now is pour it into your desired container.
I reused an empty store-bought laundry detergent bottle. That way, we kill two birds in one stone.

Well, after pouring it into the desired bottle and letting it cool off, it got a jelly-like texture, so I couldn't use it.
How did I fix it? By adding more water. After that, I put the bottle next to the radiator (it's doing more things than just heating the house lately), and then I just had to shake the bottle, and it was ready to use.
I've already used it, and it works great.
If I find another recipe for liquid laundry detergent -one that is truly liquid- I'll share it with you in another post. I'll keep on researching.
