Guía de Viaje Varsovia / Warsaw Travel Guide (I)

¡Hola guapas!

Hi gorgeous,

We hope you're enjoying the summer holidays and feel like reading about the city we've visited during said holidays.

Warsaw is the capital of Poland since 1596 and is located in the region of Mazovia. It stands on  the Vistula river and has a population of less than two million people. According to folk etymology the city name comes from a fisherman, Wars, and his wife, Sawa. Ever since the XVII century the emblem of the city is this siren wielding a sword and a shield and represents the creature who demanded the city be founded.

Getting there

If you're flying there, you'll land at one of two major airports, *Chopin* or *Modlin*. Our flight with LOT, the national airline, took us from Madrid airport to Chopin. We took off about an hour later than its scheduled time, as we were promptly informed during check-in.
Truth be told, online reviews about this airline were quite negative, as it's apparently been nicknamed 'Late Or Tomorrow'-.
Besides the hour-long delay mentioned and a half hour on our return flight which was for the most part compensated in flight, we were pleased with their service. Our plane was a brand spanking new Boeing 787 Max 8 equipped with universal charging outlets with USB ports on every seat. The airline serves complimentary tea and coffee, water and chocolate bars. The on-board menu is very affordable too.

Before moving on, there was a pleasant change in our travelling arrangements this year. We took the train from our hometown, Zamora. It was about time that *gorgeous* building was put to good use and actually have trains serving Spain's capital. It couldn't be just for show!

As we were saying, we arrived at Chamartín railway station in Madrid. There, we headed to one of the ticket machines for commuter trains and got our ticket for the airport, which was free of charge. You see, our one-way ticket to Madrid had a barcode that you have to scan in those machines, after selecting the option 'Combined Commuter ticket'. The machine will print your tickets and you'll be good to go.
We got to the T4 airport terminal, but our flight departed from Terminal 2, so we took one of their (overcrowded) complimentary shuttle buses there.

Back in Warsaw, we made it to Chopin airport just an hour after our scheduled arrival time. Our suitcases didn't take long to make it to the belt.
We purchased the commuter train tickets that would take us to the Central Station (Warszawa Centralna). The ticket we bought from one of the two companies, SKM, was only valid for 20 minutes after validation and by the time the conductor asked for our tickets in the S3 train that time had gone by. He let us continue our journey without a fine, as we offered to get a new one if it was needed.  Just don't be too quick validating yours in those yellow machines, if you choose the same ticket.
By the time we got to the station it was already dawn and even though our hotel was not too far, we decided to get a taxi. It cost 12 PLN, which is around €3, a total bargain.

As always, expect a hotel review on a separate post soon. Just a quick note, we were favourably impressed.

This has been all for the first day.
See you around.

Manicura de gel / Gel manicure

¡Hola guapas!

Hi gorgeous!

It's mani time today, but I'm downright cheating with this mani, as it's not one I did myself, rather, I got it done by my local hairdresser.

I can't tell you exactly what brands she used. I do know that the burgundy shade came in a really small bottle. The brand was a Dutch one, Max Brands or something like that, but it was made in China.

What really caught my eye was the fact that she used a UV lamp from Lidl-Silvercrest, to cure the different products she applied. I did know that some tradespeople (in construction, for instance) use specialized tools from Lidl.

She did this mani on July 18th and it lasted until the 29th. I must say a couple days before it chipped I filed my nails a bit, as they were on the long side, which may have affected their wear time.

All in all, I've been incredibly pleased with my first time having a gel mani.

Have you ever tried this kind of mani?

Libros / Books: 'La isla de las mariposas' - Corina Bomann

¡Hola guapas!

Hello gorgeous!

Today it's time for another book review, featuring my latest read. The summer holidays make it easier for me to catch up on my reading.

This is is the first novel I've read from this popular author. It's a family saga that I read in no time. It's truly engrossing.

'Butterfly Island'
Diana Wagenbach is the sole survivor in a withering family tree fraught with secrets. When the first in a trail of clues is handed down to Diana by her great-aunt on her deathbed, along with a plea to assuage their family’s guilt by revealing all, Diana obliges. She follows the clues—a picture here, a letter there, a pressed frangipani flower in a book—that carry her away from her philandering husband in Berlin to a charming manor in England and all the way to a tea plantation in Sri Lanka.
Diana unravels the dramatic tale of her great-great-grandmother, Grace Tremayne, with the aid of Jonathan Singh, a local historian and writer—and someone with whom she feels a deep bond that sparks into romance. As Grace’s tragic past in exotic colonial Ceylon is revealed and the family’s sins come to light, Diana finds inspiration in her ancestor’s courage and begins to rethink what happiness—and love—is worth, and how the surest route to peace is in setting the truth free.

The truth is I've thoroughly enjoyed going through this novel. The story of Grace, the clues Emmely left for Diana before her passing are all very captivating elements. The story, as is the norm in these family sagas, is told both in the present and the past, but the writer managed to blend those wonderfully and you never feel lost in the story or the characters.
Neither you get the impression that she could have skipped a few characters or subplots.
Corina Bomann has -at least in Spain- published another two novels that I may read at some point in the future.

What about you? Which books have you read lately? Any recommendations?

See you around.

Mi última gran adquisición: Nikon D5600 - My latest great purchase: Nikon D5600.

Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,

I'm really excited to show you my latest great purchase: my new DSLR, the Nikon D5600.

You'll probably be wondering if the old D3000 broke down. No, it still works like a charm, like on day one.

The initial idea was to renew the camera body (I can use my lenses with the new one), and then sell the old camera body on eBay. Considering it still works I could get some money to offset buying the new one.

But the initial idea changed.
I don't know if I told you that my passion for photography runs in the family.
Both my father and grandfather were photographers (they quit in the early 80s).
So I thought about giving my father the D3000 (in fact he already has it), and let him rediscover photography.
Every time I tell him about RAW files he looks at me nonplussed, so I guess I'll have to take it easy.
For now, he's getting used to taking pictures with it.
If my grandfather was alive... taking pictures without a roll film would definitely leave him speechless.

Anyway, I digress.
Since I bought the D3000, almost 8 years ago, some things have changed.
The D5600 has more resolution: 24 Mpx, compared to the 10.2 of the D3000.
But megapixels are not the most important thing.

I don't want to bore you with technical terms. The main difference is that the D5600 records video at full HD resolution (the D3000 just takes photos; no video at all).
Everything about DSLR video is completely new for me so I will have to learn some things before.

I already have an idea on how to use this new feature, so stay tuned.

This new camera has a Vari-angle monitor, which I think will be very useful not only for video but also for macro photography, for example.
I'm getting used to the touchscreen. I already touched the screen with my nose when looking through the viewfinder, and then I heard a beep (nothing serious).

This has been my most expensive purchase at eBay, but the experience couldn't have been more positive.
I was lucky enough to put a 10% off coupon to good use, only available for the app.
The initial price of the camera, with the 18-55 VR lens was 525€, but after redeeming the coupon during the purchase process, I finally paid 475€, which was great.
I saw it on other websites at €899, which is MUCH more expensive.
I ordered it from *this* seller and arrived through UPS one day before the delivery deadline began, so another point for them.

Now all I have to do is try to make the most of it.
What about you? Have you ever bought such an expensive thing from eBay or another website of this kind?
Tell us about your experience in the comments below.
See you around.

Paleta de sombras / Eyeshadow Palette - Imagic (Aliexpress)

Hola, chicas:

No pesa. En fin, que por 6,48€ ya con el envío, a ver qué marca te da tanto.

¿Alguna vez habéis comprado maquillaje por Aliexpress?
Contadnos abajo.
Hasta pronto.

Hi girls,

A couple of days ago I shared with you the presents I got for my birthday, as well as the stuff I treated myself to. This was one of those things. To my surprise, the day after posting that the palette was safely inside my mailbox.

Before showing you this gorgeous palette properly, let me tell you it was perfectly protected by two layers of bubble wrap.
The only downside was that it gave off a really strong chemical scent. I have a feeling said reek comes from the clear packing tape the seller used on one of the plastics. We happen to have a very smelly packaging tape that we bought at a local (Chinese) euro store that smells just like it.

What I did was leave the palette to air dry for a couple days and now you can barely smell anything.
I seem to recall other people mentioning the same thing.
I've been using this palette now for a couple of weeks and works like a charm.

Outstanding colour payoff -can be a problem if you're going for a subtle daily look- and they blend well on the eyes. It's lightweight. The in-built mirror is a great addition and will be great for travel. Long story short, is there any brand that packs this much for a mere €6.48, including shipping? Thought so.

Have you ever bought make-up stuff from Aliexpress?
Tell us below.
See you.

Compras varias / Sundry Haul

Hola, chicas:

Me costó 1,89€.

Me costó 39,90€. Me cogí también otro pack de Invisibobble.

Hi girls,

Here we are again to show you our latest purchases.

1 - Essence Long-lasting twist eyeliner in # 02 'Hot Chocolate' (marox): You know I like to use brown mascara for neutral looks, but I didn't have any brown liners now. I got this at a local supermarket. It was €1.89

2 - Body Fantasies Signature 'Pink Sweet Pea' body mist: I liked it so much that I got myself another bottle. I bought this as a local supermarket that keeps this inside the Essence counter, where LE should go.
This 3.2 fl oz / 94 ml was €3,99.

3 - Lidl Hair Mask for Curly Hair: I'd eyed this on a previous visit to Lidl. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the ingredients it boasts on the front were quite high up in the list of ingredients at the back. We've been using this for a couple of weeks at home and we like it very much so far. The one we were using no longer felt nourishing enough.
This was only €2.19.

4 - Lidl Micellar Water: 1,59€. I haven't finished the Garnier one. What I liked about this one is the pump bottle that so many Lidl products now have. I grabbed it because it can be hard to find and indeed, this was the last bottle at my store. Hope the product itself is good as well.

5 -  Perfume 'Perles de Lalique': This perfume, in particular, had free shipping. I've tested it already and the longevity is outstanding. My mum liked this more than the other Lalique perfume I bought her recently. She's welcome to use it anytime.
This was €39.90. I also ordered another pack of Invisibobble.

Well, this is all for now.
See you in another blogpost.

Bien, esto ha sido todo por ahora.
Nos vemos en una próxima entrada.

Productos Terminados / Finito products #66

Hola, chicas:

Hi girls,

Here we are again to show you what we've used up lately.

1 - Mineral foundation from Sephora. Shade #26 Peach: I really like this mineral foundation in a compact, a lot more convenient than those in a loose powder. I use it both on its own when I only need to look healthy or to set my CC Cream, with a lighter hand. The sponge is really practical, as it is double-sided and can give you a lighter or heavier coverage.
I'd bought another compact a long time ago, but as you see, I tried to really use this up. I've gone way beyond hitting pan on it.
This usually retails for €15.95, but you can get it a bit cheaper during their Sales.
It is available in 8 different shades, apparently.

2 - Heimish Cleansing Balm: It cleanses your face off any makeup quite well and is a good first product for your double cleansing routine. Get a dollop of product with the spatula, massage all over your face, then with wet hands massage once more until it turns whiteish. I remove it using the microfiber face cloth I got from my sister.
What really puts me off about this is the scent. It's a sort of Chinese herbal blend. I'm now using the one my sister shared with you on a recent DIY blog since that contains no preservatives. And when that's done with I'll switch to the ENature one.

3 - Citrus Body Spray from Lidl: One of Lidl's latest releases a couple of months ago, available in 4 different scents, I believe. I don't recall how much this retailed at, but around €2. I won't repurchase for now. Although the Body Fantasies mists available at a local supermarket are much smaller, the scent lingers a lot more on my skin and it seems much more complex.

4 - CK One, 200 ml EdT: Marian gave it to me for my birthday a couple of years ago. She bought it at Fapex Beautyspin (now  Notino). It's a unisex fragrance that I used more in the summer month and for my yoga and Zumba lessons. The glass bottle is a bit unusual in the sense that it can be reused, as the spritz is screw-on.

5- Peach body scrub from The Body Shop: Another TBS body polish I had a hard time using up. The scent at least is bearable, unlike the Chocomania one. God, that was nasty! So artificial! And it's not that I'm super picky when it comes to scents.
Anyway, this was nothing to write home about. So far, I prefer the Rituals body scrubs more than the TBS ones. It's just as well I got them all in their sales and not paid full price.

Well, this is all for now.
Have you tried any of these?

See you around.
