Well, first of all, thank you so much for following us. We've almost reached 50 followers, Wow! We still can't believe our eyes!

En la entrada de hoy, os presento algunos de los productos de la marca NYX que tenemos. Los compramos en Internet, en concreto éstos fueron al vendedor Joy's. Vinieron muy bien protegidos en plástico de burbujas y llegaron muy rápido. Pedí 6 tonos e intenté pedir un poco de todo. Mi hermana se quedó los tres restantes y supongo que pronto os los enseñará.
En España, se puede comprar en pocas tiendas físicas, principalmente Beautik.

In today's post I'd like to share with you some of the NYX stuff that we have. We got this online, from the seller Joy's on Ebay. Items came very well protected in bubble wrap and shipping was fast. I ordered 6 different colours, trying to have a little bit of everything. My sister kept the remaining 3, so I suppose she'll share hers with you soon too.
In Spain these are available in very few brick and mortar stores, Beautik mainly.

Without further ado, here are a few pics.




Los labiales redondos de Nyx son muy cremosos, si bien de los tres que tengo, los más cremosos son Fig y Thalia. El Pandora lo noto bastante más seco en comparación. No sé si el que sea más oscuro que los otros tenga algo que ver. Mi favorito es el Thalia, es un todoterreno. Si no tenéis claro qué tonos pedir, yo diría que este tono es una apuesta segura.

Nyx round lipsticks are very creamy, though of all three the most creamy are Fig and Thalia. Pandora is a lot drier in comparison, I don't know if it has anything to do with being the darkest of the three. My favourite is Thalia, it's an all-rounder. If you're at a loss about which shades to order, Thalia is a pretty safe bet imo.

Os dejo con unas fotos de cómo queda cada uno en los labios. Por cierto, que no véais qué show para hacerlas, porque mi hermana me tuvo que estar buscando 'el lado bueno' como a las famosas, ya que sino parecía que tenía los labios torcidos. Creo que a partir de ahora, los chuaches de labios será mejor que los haga ella, que tiene unos labios mucho más bonitos y fotogénicos que los míos.

By the way, the photoshoot was a bit of a pita, because my sister had be looking for my 'good side' as if I were a star or something, because my lips appeared to be twisted or something depending on the side. From now on, she'd better swatch lippies herself, especially since her lips are a lot more pretty and photogenic than mine.

Advertencia: Al ser tan blanditos es fácil que la 'bala' se pueda doblar o incluso romper. Tanto mi Thalia como uno de los de mi hermana, hay que usarlos con mucho cuidado. Mi hermana usa el suyo con pincel. Yo evitaría pedirlos en verano, porque francamente, con el calor no sería una buena idea que estuvieran de acá para allá.

Warning: Being so soft and creamy, it's easy for the 'bullet' to bend or even break. Both my Thalia and one of my sister's lippies have to be used very carefully. My sister applies hers with a lip brush. I'd avoid ordering these in the summer, because honestly, I don't think the heat would help during shipping.

Las noticias de la semana en imágenes / This week's news in pictures

Desgraciadamente, las noticias de esta semana en el panorama nacional no han sido precisamente buenas, ya que lamentablemente 11 personas han perdido la vida en el peor terremoto registrado en España hasta la fecha, en la localidad murciana de Lorca.
El primero, de magnitud 4,4 en la escala de Richter se registró el pasado miércoles por la tarde, siendo superado en magnitud dos horas más tarde por una de las réplicas, de 5,2.

Como ya sabréis por las noticias, la mayor parte de la población ha pasado los últimos días fuera de sus casas, bien por miedo a las réplicas o porque sus casas no eran seguras.

This week's national news have been tinged with tragedy, with 11 people being killed in the worst earthquake to ever hit Spain.
The magnitude 5.2 tremor hit Lorca, Murcia early on Wednesday evening, around two hours after a quake measuring 4.4 in the Richter scale.

Locals have been forced to spend the last few days outdoors, either for fear of more tremors or because their homes were not safe.

Lamentablemente, en situaciones tan graves como ésta, no todo el mundo ha demostrado la calidad humana que cabría esperar. Como seguidora blaugrana, me siento asqueada de que la prensa catalana dedicara tan sólo un pequeño artículo en su portada, que reservó para la proclamación del FC. Barcelona como Campeón de la Liga 2011. Tampoco se suspendieron ni postpusieron las celebraciones, aunque ya sé que no habría servido de mucho. Si es que está claro que en este país el fútbol es sagrado.

Unfortunately, not everyone has shown the compassion a situation like this demands. As a Barça supporter, I feel sickened about the fact that the most important Catalan newspapers only devoted a tiny article to the tragedy in their front cover, dedicated to the proclamation of FC Barcelona as the champion of the Liga 2011. The subsequent celebrations were not cancelled or postponed either, though I know it wouldn't have served any purpose. It seems football/soccer is sacrosanct in this country, you see.

Indignante también que, estando en campaña electoral como estamos, hubiera cierto partido que no suspendiera sus actos de campaña para el día siguiente y que para más INRI lleva la palabra 'Solidaridad' en su nombre. Indignante también que nuestro gobierno mandara únicamente a la zona, personal médico pero sin un sólo gramo de material ya que se 'abastecerían' en Lorca. Todo esto dicho por el propio personal militar. Sí, claro, teniendo en cuenta que el hospital quedó muy dañado -y tuvo que ser cerrado- tras el terremoto, me parece una decisión de lo más acertada -modo irónico ON-. Pero sí, para hacerse la foto, han estado 'todos con Lorca'.

Outrageous too, that being in the middle of both a local and regional electoral campaign as we are, a certain party did not cancel their electoral agenda for the next day. To add insult to the injury, the party dares to use the word 'Solidarity' in its name. Outrageous too, that our government only sent medical staff but not a single piece of equipment, to be 'loaned' from the local hospital in Lorca on arrival, according to sources from the military staff themselves. Considering the hospital had been severely damaged -and closed off- by the quake, that's one hell of a good decision, don't you think? -ironic mode ON. But, hey, they all did go there to pose for some photographs and 'support' Lorca.

Por cierto, que este año he votado por correo por primera vez en mi vida. Recuerdo que hace un montón de años un pequeño partido local pegó pegatinas en las papeleras con el eslogan: 'Deposite su voto aquí... ¡Total!... ¡Para lo que le va a servir!. No me negaréis que no es el mejor eslógan que habéis oido en mucho tiempo.

By the way, this year I've voted by mail for the first time in my life. I remember that many years ago, a small local party in my hometown put stickers in the dustbins with the words: Put your vote here... It's not going to be of much use, anyway! Isn't it the best slogan you've ever heard?

Here I am (again) with my latest purchases from Essence. It was a pleasure to see such a full display, it was hard to resist the temptation of taking all that stuff home with me, but I had to behave.

Well, it's much better to see them, so here is the picture.


Me compré el esmalte de la Blossoms en el tono 02 "I like", que de todos los de esta edición limitada, fue el que más me gustó. También me compré la colonia. Tiene un olor floral, así que me parece perfecta para el verano.

I bought the polish in the shade 02 'I like', from the Blossoms LE, because it was the one I liked the most. I also bought the perfume. It has a floral scent, so I think it's perfect for the summer.

Como veis, he sido muy comedida, porque si no, llegará un momento en que no tenga sitio para guardar tantos potis.

As you can notice, I've been very self-restrained, because if I'm not, I may not have where to store all that makeup.

Hoy os traigo otra crítica musical. Se trata de un disco y una artista que descubrí gracias a una banda sonora y que compré en Ebay UK hace ya tiempo. Varios de los temas los llevo tanto en el Ipod como en el coche.

Nikka Costa es una artista californiana nacida en Tokyo. Es hija del legendario productor Don Costa, famoso por su trabajo con Frank Sinatra, padrino de la criatura. Incluso interpretaron juntos un tema en la Casa Blanca. Se crió viendo entrar y salir de su casa como si nada a los grandes artistas del momento.

Durante un concierto de su padre en Italia, le acompañó interpretando el tema 'On my Own' en el Bis, que la catapultó inmediatamente al estrellato, comenzando su carrera como artista infantil. Los años pasaron, ella siguió cantando temas para adolescentes hasta que se retiró. Sacó otro disco 'adulto' anterior a éste en Australia, el 'Butterfly Rocket', que se cotiza bastante caro por Ebay y con el algún día me gustaría hacerme.

I have another music review for you today. I discovered this album and this singer thanks to an OST and I bought it on Ebay UK a few years ago. Several of the songs are part of the playlist in my Ipod and my car.

Tokyo-born, LA- bred Nikka Costa is the daughter of Don Costa, the legendary Frank Sinatra producer, who was her godfather btw. They even performed together at the White House nonetheless. She grew up seeing all the great artists of the time coming and going out of her house as if it were the most common thing in the world.

During one of her father's concerts in Italy, she joined him onstage for the Encore and performed the song 'On my Own', a song that catapulted her into international child-stardom. Years went by, she kept singing teenage-oriented songs and then retired. She released her first solo 'adult' album in Australia, prior to this one, which is very rare and prized on Ebay and which I'd love to get my hands on someday.

Este trabajo está producido por Justin Stanley, marido de Nikka y por el ahora cotizadísimo productor neoyorkino Mark Ronson (conocido años después por ser el productor de entre otras, Amy Winehouse). Creo que éste fue el primero que produjo.

This album is produced by Justin Stanley, Nikka Costa's husband and by the now sought-after NY producer Mark Ronson (famous years later for producing artists like Amy Winehouse). I think this was the first album he ever produced.

Está editado con la discográfica Virgin Records en mayo del 2001. Estaba de gira con este trabajo, pero la suspendió por el 11-S. Su siguiente trabajo fue 'Can'tneverdidnothin' -otra joya-. Más tarde se pasó a la nueva Stax con 'Pebble to a Pearl' y ahora parece ser que a EMI, si bien su último trabajo en teoría está terminado pero en la práctica no se encuentra a la venta en ningún sitio.

This album was released under Virgin Records in May, 2001. She was touring with it but cancelled due to 9/11. The next album in her discography was 'Can'tneverdidnothin' -another jewel-. She changed labels later and released 'Pebble to a Pearl' with the new Stax Records and apparently she's now under contract with EMI, despite the fact that her latest album is finished but not available anywhere.

1-Like a Feather (NC/JS/MR) – Mark Ronson: Guitar

El tema que abre el disco y primer single del mismo deja bien claro que esta mujercita tiene mucho que ofrecer: un registro vocal impresionante y que ningún ritmo se le resiste. En este tema se permite cantar de falsete. En su día, fue utilizado por una campaña publicitaria del diseñador Tommy Hilfiger.

The opening track and first single off the album leaves us in no doubt that this chick has a lot to offer: an impressive vocal range and an ability to master any beat. In this track she fools around a bit and sings falsetto-style. It was used at the time on a Tommy Hilfiger campaign.

Nikka Costa - Like a Feather por ineptique

En el video musical que podéis ver, se intuye que esta cantante es pura dinamita en el escenario. Dicen de ella que tiene uno de los mejores directos, y todo ello sin efectos especiales ni coreografías imposibles para maquillar una voz mediocre. Antigua estrella infantil, posee una sólida experiencia tanto en solitario como acompañando a otros músicos y esas 'tablas' se notan.

'Like a Feather' video.

The videoclip for this song gives us an indication that the red-haired singer is pure dynamite on stage. She is said to be one of the best live performers, and she has the goods to back that up, without the help of special effects or impossible choreographies to 'make up' a mediocre voice. This former child prodigy has ample experience both solo and joining other artists on stage and this shows.

2- So Have I for you – Mark Ronson: Guitar

Con esta balada, Nikka demuestra que no es otra niña mona más en el panorama musical, ni una cabeza de chorlito. No necesita de adornos para llegar al público o como dice la letra: 'I don't need a gun, I got a microphone and a melody or two / no necesito una pistola, tengo un micrófono y una canción o dos'.

He dicho balada, pero no sé si será la mejor manera de describir a un tema lleno de fuerza y capaz de emocionar a partes iguales.

With this ballad, Ms. Costa proves she's not just another pretty face in the music scene, nor an airhead. She doesn't need any adornments to reach the audience or as she sings herself in the lyrics: 'I don't need a gun, I got a microphone and a melody or two'.

I've referred to this one as a ballad, but I don't know if that suits a song so full of energy and moving at the same time.

Video No oficial ?? / Un-official video?? - So Have I for you

Britney Spears, para la que ha actuado de telonera -en un extraño ejemplo de que, con todos los respetos, a veces el telonero es muuuchoo mejor que el artista principal- lo usó en su pelicula 'Crossroads' ese mismo año.

Britney Spears, who she's opened up for -in a strange case of, with all due respect, the opening act being waaaayy better than the lead act- used this song in her 2001 film debut 'Crossroads'.

3- Tug of War (NC/Xavier Cugat)

Un tema algo extraño. Se deja escuchar y me gusta pero definitivamente, no está entre mis favoritos. Parte de un sampler de Xavier Cugat.

A somewhat strange song. It's 'listenable' -if such a word exists in English- and I like it, though is definitely not among my faves from the album. Started off with a sampler from Xavier Cugat.

4- Everybody got their something

Gracias a este tema descubrí a esta gran artista. Es funky, es pop y un montón de cosas más. Envejece estupendamente, ya que hace poco fue retomado para otra banda sonora (una película con Sandra Bullock y Bradley Cooper, creo) aunque le hicieron unos arreglillos nuevos.

I discovered the great Ms. Costa thanks to this song. It's funky, and pop and everything else in between and more. It ages well and was even used again in another soundtrack (a film starring Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper, I think) though they gave it a new arrangement.

Es una lástima que no haya videoclip para esta canción. En teoría sí que se llevó a grabar, pero Nikka no estaba de acuerdo con la visión del director y en un chat con sus seguidores, me dijo que jamás vería la luz. Una lástima, porque un videoclip siempre consigue llegar a más gente. Sí, es de esas artistas que todavía tiene tiempo para sus fans.

'Everybody got their something' live at the Roxy.

It's a pity there's no videoclip for this one. In theory, there is a recorded video for this, but Nikka was not comfortable with the director's vision of this and in a chat with her fans told me the video for this would never see the light of day. A shame, really, as a videoclip always manages to reach a wider audience. Yes, she's one of those artists that still has some time for her fans.

5- Nothing

Una hermosa balada, sin adornos de ningún tipo en el que podemos deleitarnos con la pureza vocal de esta mujer. De nuevo, una artista que me hace preguntarme cómo puede caber tanto arte en una misma persona.

A beautiful ballad, very inspiring and completely unadorned, just for us to delight ourselves with the vocal purity in Nikka's voice. Again, an artist that makes me wonder how so great a talent can be squeezed in a single individual.

Valoración/ Rating: 9/10

6- Nikka What?

Un tema instrumental y casi una introducción, simplemente con los músicos pasándoselo bien en una 'jam session', o esa impresión da.

An instrumental and almost an intro song, with the musicians just having fun in a 'jam session', or at least, that's what it seems to me.

7- Hope it felt good (MR: Scratches)

¡Esto es funky y lo demás son tonterías! Suele tocar mucho este tema en sus concierto (me pediría ir a uno en mi wishlist). Más o menos sus conciertos suenan como esta canción, con ella dándolo todo en el escenario, sudando como si acabara de correr una maratón y en el suelo si hace falta. Suelen hablar de ella como la Janis Joplin moderna.

This is funky and the rest is nonsense/bollo***! She likes to play this one very much in her concerts, to this day -I'd probably include 'going to a Nikka concert' in my wishlist. Her concerts sound more or less like this, with her really giving herself in on stage, sweating as if she'd just run a marathon and on the floor if she has to. She's often referred to as a modern-day Janis Joplin.

8- Some kind of beautiful - Mark Ronson: Guitar

Otra dosis de funky, aderazada con algo de R&B y soul. Es un gran tema, aunque carece de la fuerza del anterior.

Another shot of funky, spiced up with some R&B and soul. It's a great track, though lacking the energy of the previous one.

9- Nikka Who? - Terry Ray Costa

Este mini-tema no es otra cosa más que un viaje al pasado. La pequeña Nikka canta un tema compuesto para ella por su madre, 'Chained to the blues'.

Su hermano también es músico, toca la batería. Está claro que esta familia, lleva la música en la sangre.

This short song is nothing more than a journey into the past. Little Nikka singing a song written for her by her mum, 'Chained to the blues'.

Her brother's in the music business as well and plays the drums. Music, you see, runs in the -this- family.

10- Just Because

Una balada preciosa, compuesta enteramente por ella. ¿No habéis tenido nunca la sensación de que ya no se hace música como la de antaño? Pues con canciones como esta, se te olvida.

A very beautiful ballad, written by Ms. Costa entirely. Have you ever had the feeling that today's music is not as good as in the past? You get to forget it with songs like this.

11- Push & Pull

Otro temazo, también incluído en una banda sonora, en este caso la de 'Blow' con Johnny Depp. Sólo la gran Nikka Costa, con su guitarra y su gran voz. No hace falta nada más.

Another hell of a song, also included in a soundtrack, in the film 'Blow' starring Johnny Depp. Just the great Nikka Costa, with her guitar and her goddess voice. No need for anything more.

12- Corners of my mind

¡Dios, qué voz tiene esta mujer! Técnicamente, es una maravilla. Alcanza cinco octavas -creo que la gran Tina Turner 'sólo' alcanza cuatro.

OhmyChristAlive, what a great voice this lady has! Technically speaking, she's awesome. She has an astounding five-octave vocal range -the great Tina Turner apparently 'only' manages four.

Valoración /Rating: 9/10

** La edición japonesa de este álbum, como suele ser habitual, viene con regalito, en concreto el tema 'I Don't Want To Be The Rain', muy recomendable también. **

Este es uno de esos discos que puedes escuchar enteros, sin tener que estar saltando temas continuamente y en los que 'amortizas' todos los temas, aunque evidentemente siempre tenemos favoritos.

This is one of those albums you can play from start to finish, without having to skip tracks all the time and therefore 'recouping' each and every single track, though as always we all have favourites.

*** Como supongo habréis notado, blogger ha estado sin funcionar desde ayer por la noche, y aunque finalmente vuelve a ir, se han perdido los dos últimos post que habíamos subido, uno mío y otro anterior de mi hermana. Vuelvo a subir el mío, que por suerte tenía guardado en mi ordenador como un archivo de texto. ****

Hoy os traigo el esmalte que compré por duplicado, para mí y para mi hermana el día antes de ir a Madrid. La verdad es que tenía muchas ganas de estrenarlo, después de llevar casi dos meses babeando ante la pantalla cada vez que lo veía en algún blog.

I have another Essence for you today, the polish I bought for both myself and my sister the day before going to Madrid. The truth is I was very eager to paint my nails with this one, after maybe almost two months spent drooling in front of the computer screen everytime I saw it on a blog.

No me ha decepcionado en absoluto, es un color muy especial. Que yo sepa, es el primer esmalte duocromo/multimatices o como lo queráis llamar que saca Essence. Es morado, pero según le dé la luz también es verde e incluso gris. Y si encima es baratito, como son los esmaltes de Essence, mejor que mejor. Catrice sacó uno parecido, el '#490 Iron Mermaiden', pero por lo que he leido, hablan mejor de éste de Essence que del otro. En cualquier caso, Essence es mucho más fácil de conseguir, así que por mí perfecto.

Es una pasada de bonito, no podía dejar de mirarme las manos y mover los dedos para ver los distintos colores, como una cría pequeña, jeje.

Hoy justo he visto unas fotos de The Swatchaholic (aquí), y definitivamente las lacas de uñas de la Holographics no son holográficas sino duocromo, así que si os gustan ese tipo de tonos estad atentas.

This polish has definitely lived up to my expectations. It's a very special colour. As far as I'm aware of it's the first duochrome released by Essence. It's purple, but also green and even grey depending on the light. And if it's cheap, as Essence lacquers are, so much the better. Catrice released a similar shade called #490 'Iron Mermaiden', but from what I've read the reviews for that are not as good as those for this Essence. Anyway, Essence is more readily available, so that suits me just fine.

It's to die for, I couldn't stop looking at my hands and moving my fingers to see the different colours in it, like a small girl, haha.

I just saw some pics from The Swatchaholic *here* and the polishes to be released in the Holographics LE are definitely not holos but duochrome, so if you like these kind of shades you'd better check those out.

Me pinté las uñas con él el viernes por la tarde. Primero puse una capa de la base de P2, dos del WitP? para que cubriera más y una de SV para darle más brillo y duración.

El domingo por la mañana descubrí el primer desconchón, en el dedo pulgar de la mano derecha, antes de ponerme a hacer las tareas de la casa.

Al día siguiente, lunes, por la mañana vi el segundo desconchón, en el dedo medio de la mano derecha. Me las despinté antes de lavarme el pelo -quizá podría haber apurado un poco más – pero no iban a aguantar de todos modos.

I painted my nails with this one on Friday evening. I applied one coat of Base from P2, then two of WitP? for a full coverage and then one of SV for extra shine and durability.

On Sunday morning I discovered the first signs of chipping, on my right-hand thumb, before I started doing the housechores.

Then the following day, on Monday morning, the polish in the middle finger of my right hand got chipped too. I removed it before washing my hair -I could have kept this a little longer- but they were not going to survive it anyway.

Essence ha sacado al menos otro esmalte duocromo, en tonos azules y tengo la duda de si el 'Read-y to go' -de los C&G - también puede serlo. Quizá si alguna lo tiene, pueda sacarme de la duda. Justo hoy hemos estado en Bustillo, la tienda que vende Essence aquí y lo he tenido en la mano. En el fondo del bote se ven varios colores, pero claro, eso no significa necesariamente que sea duocromo.

Essence released at least another duochrome in blue and I suspect 'Read-y to to go', also from the Colour & Go line is too. Maybe if you happen to have it you could tell me whether or not I'm in the wrong. We went to Bustillo, our Essence supplier today and I had it in my hands. If you look at it upside down, you do get to see different colours at the bottom but obviously that does not necesarily mean it's duochrome.

Y ahora algo diferente, nuestra CDD. ¿Y eso qué es? ¿Nuestro careto del día? Noo. Nuestra cena del día, bueno de anoche, que olvidé insertar en la entrada en un primer momento y tuve el tiempo justo de subir antes de que se 'cayera' blogger. Una deliciosa pizza casera, hecha con nuestras manitas, masa y todo.

And now, something different. Our DOTD. And wtf is that? Our dork-face of the day? Noo. Our dinner of the day, well last night's, which I forgot to upload when I first posted this and barely had enough time to do so right before blogger was down. A deliciously yummy homemade pizza, made with our very hands, dough and all.

Compras en El Corte Inglés... ¡de Oportunidades! / Clothes haul at 'El Corte Inglés'... Outlet!

Hoy os traigo una entrada diferente, con compras no de maquillaje sino de ropa. Me gusta vestir clásica e informal, y aunque me gusta estar al tanto de lo que se lleva a través de revistas y de Internet, no me considero en absoluto esclava de las tendencias de moda. Vamos, que si de repente se ponen de moda los zapatos naranja fosforito, no voy a salir precisamente corriendo a por un par.

Hecha esta aclaración, me gustaría hablaros de mis últimas compras en cuanto a ropa se refiere. Si nos seguís desde España, no hace falta que os hable de El Corte Inglés, porque si no tenéis alguno en vuestra ciudad, estoy segura de que habéis entrado en alguno en otra ciudad.
De todas es sabido que en El Corte Inglés podemos encontrar una gran cantidad de marcas, desde algunas de precios más baratos y enfocadas a un público al que le gustar vestirse a la moda pero sin arruinarse (Green Coast, por ejemplo), a prendas de diseñadores españoles y marcas extranjeras como Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton y demás. El Corte Inglés es sinónimo de calidad y de variedad, así como de probablemente el mejor servicio postventa de España, pero todo eso se paga, en ocasiones más de lo que debería.



I have a different post for you today, with a haul that is not make-up related. I like to dress casual and in a classic style, and as much as I try to know what's in by looking at magazines and the Internet, I'd never describe myself as a fashion victim in any way. Say next season orange neon shoes are the craze, well, don't expect to see me rushing to a store for a pair myself, you know what I mean.
That said, I'd like to talk about my latest clothing purchases. If you're following us from Spain I can spare you the explanation about El Corte Inglés department stores, but I'll have to elaborate a bit for our foreign readers. Despite the 'English' in its name, this Spanish department store group is the biggest in Europe and ranks fourth worldwide. It has several associated businesses such as supermarket chains and a travel agency. You could say it's the Spanish equivalent to Harrods, though it's a chain rather than a single store.They offer a great variety of brands, some cheaper and youth-oriented (i.e. store brand 'Green Coast') and designer labels like Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Louis Vuitton and the like. El Corte Inglés is a by-word for quality and variety, as well as probably the best after-sales service in Spain, though all this sometimes comes at too steep a price.
En mi tierra no contamos con una tienda de El Corte Inglés como tal, sino que tenemos una tienda de 'El Corte Inglés de Oportunidades' o un 'outlet' como se estila ahora. Es una tienda curiosa, donde la ropa suele abarrotar los 'burros' y que carece de ese orden inmaculado que caracteriza a cualquier ECI. Es como una especie de zoco, donde se puede encontrar de todo: desde artículos para el hogar, a ropa de deporte, calzado y hasta maquillaje (en la que yo conozco hay un stand de NYC, eso sí, hacen lo que les da la gana con los precios de los productos). Suele estar todo 'manga por hombro': es de esas tiendas en las que sabes que puedes echar la mañana rebuscando entre los 'burros'.
Es un misterio saber con qué te vas a encontrar: desde como decimos aquí 'purrela' (he llegado a ver pijamas de los chinos, indignante) a ropa que antes costaba casi 200 euros y que te llevas por, pongamos, 20. ¿Y quién puede resistirse a una ganga?

We don't have a regular El Corte Inglés store back home, but a 'El Corte Inglés – Centro de Oportunidades', aka 'Outlet'. It's a strange store, where hangers are packed with clothes defying the immaculate order and cleanliness that regular El Corte Inglés department stores have. These ECI Outlets are like a souk, where one can find anything from bed linens, sports clothing, shoes and even make-up (they have an NYC display, but they toy with the prices and do what they like with them). The place is usually a mess and you know you may spend a good part of the morning hunting for a bargain hidden in the hangers. They're similar to TJ Maxx stores.
You never know what you're gonna find: from items of dubious quality and origin (I've seen pyjamas from the Euro/Chinese store, wtf??) to clothes whose 'Before' prices were €200 and you end up snatching for, say, a mere €20. And who can resist a bargain?

En primer lugar, dos prendas de la marca 'Elogy' -que no conozco, pero supongo que es una de sus marcas - una chaqueta de punto gris de la talla 38/S. Precio: Antes – 35,90 € / Ahora – 19 €. Y de la misma marca, una camiseta larga/ minivestido de la talla 38/S. Antes -21,90 € /Ahora – 12 €.
Puede que no os parezca una superganga, vale, de acuerdo, pero me gustaron y son de buena calidad. Me temo que yo no cuido nada la ropa, así que procuro que la tela sea buena para que no llegue destrozada a final de temporada, y en la ropa de Zara y similares a veces la tela parece papel de fumar.





First, two items from the brand 'Elogy' – I don't know the brand but I guess it's one of the store's – a knitted grey short-sleeved cardigan in a Spanish size 38/S. Price went from €35,90 to €19. The second item is a long sleeveless T-shirt /short dress, size 38/S again. Reduced from €21.90 to just €12.
It may not be the bargain of the century, but I liked them and I liked the quality. I'm afraid I'm not very careful with my clothes, so I try to pay attention to the quality of the fabric to make it last beyond the end of the season. Unfortunately, in stores like Zara the fabric in some items seems to be paper thin.
En Navidad, me vi en la urgente necesidad de comprar pantalones, ya que la mayoría se me han quedado... enormes. En los últimos dos años he perdido unos 12 kilos que había ido ganando así como quien no quiere la cosa. Puede que algún día os hablé más de eso. Mi hermana encantada, porque heredó de repente un montón de ropa, tanto de invierno como de verano. Pero mi 'fondo de armario' (y lo que no era el fondo) os aseguro que estaba temblando. Y ahí sí que pesqué una ganga pero de las grandes. Me temo que ya no recuerdo los precios individuales de todo, pero un apunte: dos de los pantalones son de la marca Alba Conde -de la que tengo ya unas cuantas cosas- y valían 98 € cada uno. ¿Cuánto diríais que pagué POR TODO? No llegó a 50€, 48 para ser exactos.
Por cierto, que los vaqueros grises amenazan con quedárseme grandes ya.




At Christmas I found myself in desperate need of some trousers and jeans, as most of the ones I owned were way too... big for me now. I've lost about 12 kilos in the last two years, I'd been gaining the weight little by little until I said 'Enough is enough'. I may write about this some other time. My sister was delighted, as she suddenly inherited lots of clothes, both for the winter and the summer. But the 'core of my wardrobe' (and maybe more than just the core) was in a pitiful, emergency-like state. And then I did find some bargains there. I'm afraid I can't give you the prices in detail, but let me just tell you that I bought two pairs of jeans from the Spanish designer Alba Conde I already owned a few things from – and they were €98 each. Guess how much I paid FOR THE LOT? It was barely €50 or €48 to be exact. Btw, the grey jeans are already a loose fit.
