Books / Libros: 'The Silkworm' - Robert Galbraith

Hi again,

Today is time to review the latest novel I've read, this time in English as you probably guessed from this post's title.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days—as he has done before—and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home.

But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were to be published, it would ruin lives—meaning that there are a lot of people who might want him silenced.

When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any Strike has encountered before...

The second instalment in the series featuring detective Cormoran Strike was preceded by raving reviews, claiming it was better than the first. I have to say I liked the first one better, in part as I had a hard time warming to the missing person that this second novel features.  All in all, the ending comes as a great surprise, as it's not until the last 15 pages in the book when the killer is finally revealed, as are the motive or how twisted the plan to get Quine murdered is. The dénouement is definitely a surprise.

So, are you into detective novels? What are you currently reading? Let me know in the comments below.

    BESOS!
