Aquí os traigo una nueva reseña literaria, con el último libro que he leído en el Reader. Hace años, con el boom de "El Código Da Vinci" leí tanto esa novela como Ángeles y Demonios, así que decidí darle una oportunidad a la última novela protagonizada por el profesor de simbología Robert Langdon. I have a new book review for you, with my latest e-read. Some years ago, in the middle of all the craze surrounding the publication of 'The Da Vinci Code' I read both that one and 'Angels and Demons', so I decided to read the latest adventure of symbology professor Robert Langdon. You can read the first chapter *here*.
As with the other two books, there will be another *film version* of this.

A diferencia de las otras dos novelas protagonizadas por el profesor Langdon, en esta ocasión la acción transcurre en los EEUU, en concreto en la ciudad de Washington y se centra en la masonería. El libro comienza con una temprana llamada pidiéndole que se desplace hasta allí para dar un discurso, como favor a su mentor, Peter Solomon, director del Instituto Smithsonian.
Sin embargo, cuando llega a la capital, en lugar de encontrarse con el público asistente a su conferencia, se encuentra con la mano amputada de Peter Solomon, en la que alguien ha tatuado la Mano de los Misterios y que apunta al fresco La Apoteósis de Washington en el interior de la cúpula del Capitolio. Solomon ha sido secuestrado por el malvado Mal'akh, que exige que Langdon descifre los antiguos misterios a cambio de la vida de Solomon. Así comienza un juego del gato y el ratón recorriendo los museos y los monumentos arquitectónicos más destacados de Washington.

Unlike the other two novels featuring professor Langdon, action this time takes place in the US, in particular in Washington D.C. and focuses on freemasonry. The book begins with Langdon getting an early call begging him to give a lecture in D.C. as a favour to his long-time friend and mentor, Peter Solomon, the head of the Smithsonian Institution.
However, when Langdon arrives at the Capitol, instead of an audience for his lecture, he finds the severed right hand of his friend tattooed into a symbolic Hand of the Mysteries, and pointing straight upwards to the fresco The Apotheosis of Washington on the inside of the Capitol dome. Solomon has been kidnapped by the villain Mal’akh, who demands that Langdon unlock the Ancient Mysteries in return for Solomon’s life. This leads to a game of cat and mouse throughout the museums and architecture of Washington.”

Me ha gustado el libro, aunque no me resultó tan entretenido como 'El Código da Vinci'. Aunque tiene momentos buenos, con mucha tensión, hay algún detalle que lo ves venir desde el principio, como cuál sería la penúltima parada del protagonista en la carrera para salvar a su amigo Peter.
Me ha traído recuerdos de Washington, una ciudad que tuve la ocasión de visitar en varias ocasiones hace ya una eternidad, y que me gustó mucho por sus grandes avenidas, similares a las de las grandes ciudades europeas. Nueva York en cambio, me decepcionó un montón, aunque supongo que el haberla visitado en un día gris y a matacaballo, tampoco ayudó.

I liked the book but I wasn't near as riveting and entertaining as 'The Da Vinci Code' imo. Despite some good moments filled with tension, there is the odd detail you see coming from the very beginning, as what the next-to-last stop in Langdon's race to save his friend would be.
It brought memories from D.C., a city I had the pleasure of visiting a few times a lifetime ago and which surprised me with its great avenues, as the ones to be found in any European capital. New York on the other hand, was a big disappointment, though I guess having visited that on a dull overcast day and at breakneck speed didn't help either.

Hoy he ido de minipotitour -sólo mirar- a conocer las novedades de Mercadona, Marionnaud e IF, aprovechando que he venido a pasar las vacaciones a mi tierra, y de paso dejarme mimar por mis padres. Aviso: Os espera un reportaje fotográfico spy-cam en toda regla.

I went on a little window-shopping tour in search for the latest make-up related releases at Mercadona supermarkets, as well as Marionnaud and IF drugstores & perfumeries. And also to be spoiled a bit by my parents back home. Warning: Brace yourselves for a pic-heavy spy-cam post.




Mi primera escala fue en Marionnaud, donde principalmente me fijé en las novedades de GOSH. Junto a la caja, tenían bastantes productos rebajados, principalmente esmaltes y pigmentos. Estaban al 50% y se quedaban en unos 4,50€. Aunque en esa primera visita me fui de vacío, regresé hoy a echar un vistazo en busca de alguna "ganga" que mereciera la pena. Piqué con un par de cosas que ya os enseñaré.





My first stop was my nearest Marionnaud drugstore, where I mainly took a look and played a bit with the GOSH goodies. Right beside the checkout, they had some discounted items from the brand, namely pigments and nail polishes. The latter were 50% off and so the price was 4.50 EUR-ish. Although I didn't initially get anything, I didn't rule out paying it another visit and today I went back and got a couple of things.








Después fui a echar un vistazo a la sección de perfumería de los supermercados Mercadona, que aquí en Zamora me queda mucho más cerca. Aún no están a la venta las brochas nuevas -que por lo que he leído en otros blogs han "aprobado" la prueba en los supermercados/laboratorio de Valencia-. La dependienta no sabía de qué le estaba hablando y es que a menudo estamos las clientas más informadas que ellas.




I then went to Mercadona to take a look at the latest LE releases from their house brand Deliplus, because it's a lot more conveniently located here in Zamora. They still don't have the new brushes -which according to the Spanish blogosphere have passed the test at the test/lab supermarkets in Valencia. The salesgirl had no idea of what I was talking about, as most times customers are more informed about their releases than they are.

Sí que estaban las nuevas sombras Platinum, que no me gustaron demasiado. Salvo la marroncita, las demás me parecieron demasiado purpurinosas. La marroncita es muy bonita, aunque seguro que en vuestra colección tendréis alguna similar. Las sombras cuestan 5€. ¿Soy la única a la que le da la sensación de que nuestro querido Mercadona -Deliplus- se ha subido al guindo?



They did have the newest Platinum eyeshadows, which didn't catch my eye. Except for a cute brown shade, the rest were too sparkly with chunky glitter. The brown is very pretty, but certainly dupeable with other shadows in your stash. Eyeshadows are 5 EUR. Am I the only one under the impression that our dear Mercadona -Deliplus- is becoming too pricey?




En cuanto a las nuevas barras de labios cremosas, en ocho tonos, sí que me pareció que era lo que más puede merecer la pena de todas las novedades que han traído. Hay tonos para todos los gustos, como podéis ver en la foto spy-cam con el móvil que adjunto. Cuestan 4,50€.



As for their new creamy lipsticks, I think they're the highlight of the latest Deliplus releases. They're available in eight shades and they are universally appealing as there's a little bit of everything: browns, pinks and bolder colours too. They're 4.50 EUR each.

De la visita a IF no tengo fotos porque la tienda estaba casi vacía, pero si vuelvo y puedo, actualizaré el post. Estaban montando un stand de esmaltes de Essie, pero no había más que el mueble y en ninguna parte ponía qué precio iban a tener. Me suena haber leído en algún blog que rondarían los 10 euros. Era lo más interesante que tenían, ya que NYC no llama mucho.

From the visit to the only IF drugstore/perfumery here I have no pics, as the store was virtually empty, but if I go back and am able to snap a few pics, I'll update this post. They were preparing a display for Essie nailpolishes, but no information whatsoever was available regarding prices. I recall reading somewhere the'd be about 10 EUR. It was the most interesting stuff they had that caught my eye, as I'm not very fond of NYC.

Aquí vengo con mis uñas de la semana. Cuando os enseñé mi última manicura os dije que la próxima vez os traería un dueto alemán. Pues bien, aquí está.

Here I am with my nails of the week. When I showed you my latest mani, I told you that next time I'd bring you a 'German duet'. Well, here it is.

Para esta manicura he utilizado como base el Nail Envy de OPI. Después, dos capas finas del "Wine-tastic" (pues con una el color no queda homogéneo). Esperé a que se secara para aplicar el "Circus Confetti". Y para terminar, Seche Vite encima.

For this mani I have used Nail Envy from OPI as a base. After that, two thin coats of 'Wine-tastic' (because one coat wasn't enough for a full coverage). I waited for it to get dry before applying 'Circus Confetti'. And finally, Seche Vite on top.

Las fotos están hechas al día siguiente.

Estaba toda empeñada en demostrar que el "Wine-tastic" no es negro, como parece a simple vista en las uñas, y en algunas fotos del envase. Me costó, pero lo conseguí. Y aquí tenéis la prueba.

I took the pics the following day.
I was determined to prove that 'Wine-tastic' is not black, as it seems on the nails, and on some bottle pics. It was hard, but I finally managed to do it. So here is the evidence.

En cuanto a la duración de esta manicura, ha aguantado 4 días perfecta, hasta que me he lavado el pelo. Entonces ha sido cuando ha empezado a desconcharse el esmalte en algunas uñas de la mano derecha. La izquierda, como siempre, intacta.

Talking about lasting, this mani has remained perfect for 4 days, until I washed my hair. Then, some chippings on some nails of my right hand have appeared. The left one is still intact, as usual.

Como el esmalte es muy oscuro, los desconchones se notan, aunque sean pequeños. Por esta razón decido quitármelo, aunque he tenido que armarme de paciencia, porque no es fácil de quitar.

As this polish is very dark, chippings are noticeable, although they're small. That's why I decide to remove it, but I've had to be really patient, because it's not easy to remove.

He cortado unos cuantos discos de algodón a la mitad, y los he empapado en quitaesmalte. Los he puesto sobre las uñas y me he envuelto los dedos en papel de aluminio. Después de unos minutos, sólo tienes que quitar el envoltorio y listo. Ha quedado algún resto, pero ya ha sido más fácil de eliminar de la forma habitual. De esto no tengo fotos, pero seguro que encontraréis por la red un montón de tutoriales de cómo se hace.

I've cut some cotton pads in half, and I've poured nail polish remover on them. I've put on the nails and I've wrapped up my fingers with aluminium foil. After some minutes, you just have to take the wrapper out and done. There's been some traces left, but they have been easier to remove the usual way. I didn't take any pics of this, but you'll surely find lots of tutorials on the net about how to do remove polish using the foil method.

Ahora dejaré descansar mis uñas unos días, y después... No tengo ni idea.

Receta típica: Aceitadas / Typical Recipe: Aceitadas

Hoy os traigo una receta típica de nuestra tierra, las aceitadas, un dulce típico de la Semana Santa zamorana, que por si no lo sabéis fue declarada de interés turístico internacional allá por los años 80.
Las aceitadas de verdad tienen que quedar compactas (vamos, que hay que "rustrirlas" con los dientes), redonditas y para bien ser, un pelín más doraditas que las nuestras, pero me temo que nuestro horno no tiene término medio (la segunda hornada se tostó de más, de hecho). Llevan un corte en forma de cruz, pero yo no se lo hice.

Today I'm back with another recipe, this time a local delicacy. Aceitadas are traditionally savoured in our hometown, Zamora, during the Holy Week. Our Easter celebrations were declared in the early 1980s of International Tourist Interest, btw.
Traditional aceitadas are quite hard, i.e. you have to sink your teeth in them to eat them, round and ideally, should be more golden than ours turned out, but I'm afraid our oven knows no happy medium (the second batch was too dark, actually). They have a cross-shaped cut in the middle, but I didn't do it this time.

Ingredientes:
250 gr. De aceite de oliva (*Nosotras pusimos un poco menos, 200 gr)
500 gr. De harina común
200 gr. De azúcar
1 yema y 1 huevo entero
1 cucharadita de canela molida
1 cáscara de naranja
Un chorrito de anís (Nosotras pusimos 1/2 cubilete = 50 ml y no sabían mucho)

Ingredients:

250 g extra virgin olive oil (*We used a little less, 200 gr)
500 g all-purpose flour
200 g white sugar
1 egg yolk and 1 whole egg
1 tsp ground cinammon
1 orange peel
1 trickle of aniseed (We used 50 ml, filling half the transparent lid cover a.k.a. 'cubilete' as a measuring cup and the flavour was not too noticeable) .


1- Precalentar el horno a 170º grados.
1- Pre-heat your oven at 170 ºC.

2- Poner el aceite y la cáscara de naranja en el vaso, calentar 10 minutos, temperatura Varoma, velocidad 1. *Normalmente este paso lo hacemos antes de comer, para así poder continuar con la receta después de comer.
2- Weigh in the oil and add the orange peel to the Thermomix bowl. Heat it for 10 min., Varoma, Speed 1.* We usually do this step before lunch so we can go on with the rest of the recipe right after lunch.

3- Dejar enfriar el aceite y quitar la cáscara.
3- Wait until the oil cools down and remove the peel.

4- Añadir el azúcar, la yema, el huevo, la canela y el anís, mezclar todo 15 segundos, velocidad 4.
4- Add the sugar, the egg yolk, the whole egg, cinammon and aniseed and mix it all for 15 seconds, Speed 4.

5- Añadir la harina y mezclar 30 segundos, velocidad 6, ayudarse con la espátula para terminar de mezclar.
5- Weigh in the flour and add to the bowl. Mix for 30 seconds, Speed 6 and use the spatula as an aid to mix the dough properly.

6- Saca del vaso y con las manos dale forma de bolitas del tamaño de una albóndiga, forra la bandeja del horno con papel vegetal y coloca las aceitadas encima. Pinta con la clara de huevo, añade azúcar por encima, dale un corte en forma de cruz (nosotras esta vez no lo hicimos, pero así son las tradicionales) y hornéalas 20 minutos, a unos 180º grados.
6- Pour out into a bowl and make meatball-sized balls with your hands, line your oven tray with a sheet of baking paper and place them an inch apart from one another. Paint the aceitadas with the egg white and add a pinch of sugar on top. Make a cross-shaped cut (we didn't this time, though traditionally they do have this cut) and bake for about 20 min. at about 180 ºC.

Segundo pedido a Bellogirl / Second order to Bellogirl

En nuestra *segunda* entrega de productos terminados, incluímos mi Missha Perfect Cover #21 y aunque todavía me queda un poco de producto en dos tarritos de muestra, me decidí a pedir otra BB Cream. Aunque me ha ENCANTADO la MPC, lo cierto es que hay tantísimas BB Creams que me apetecía probar otra diferente.

In the *second* installment of our Finito Products, we included my Missha Perfect Cover #21 and although I still have some of that left in a couple of sample jars, I decided to order another BB Cream. As much as I LOVED my MPC, the truth is there are soo many BB Creams out there that I wanted to branch out and choose something else this time.

Con el anterior pedido, la vendedora de Ebay bellogirl incluyó varias muestras y la de Lioele Triple The Solution me encantó... pero, Bellogirl ya no la vende porque según me comentó, la calidad no se correspondía con el precio. Me recomendó la *Lollynne Brightening BB Cream*, con SPF35, pero apenas había opiniones sobre ella en Internet y me parecía un poco cara para arriesgarme.
No obstante, la he puesto en la watchlist por si en un futuro decido hacer caso a su recomendación: por lo visto, es más natural que la gran mayoría de cremas de este tipo, ya que no lleva parabenos, aceites minerales, alcohol ni ingredientes modificados genéticamente.

The seller Bellogirl included at the time several samples and I totally loved Lioele Triple The Solution... BUT, Bellogirl does not sell that anymore as apparently quality is not on a par with the price, or so she said. She suggested *Lollynne Brightening BB Cream with SPF35* instead, but there were hardly any reviews for that and I felt it was a tad too expensive to risk and end up with a bad choice.
However, I did add that to my watchlist in case I decide to follow her advice in the future: apparently the formulation is a lot more natural than on the average BB Cream, as it contains no parabenes, no mineral oils, alcohol or GMO ingredients.

Junto con la BB Cream I Love BB Light Cream de Peripera, me pedí una mascarilla peel-off para tratar los puntos negros de la marca Holika Holika *opinión aquí*. Al igual que en mi primer pedido, la vendedora incluyó muestras de varios productos, entre ellos dos BB Creams que estamos deseando probar, aunque antes nos informaremos un poco sobre todos ellos. Aún no he estrenado la BB Cream, pero en cuanto la haya probado en condiciones haré un post sobre ella. La mascarilla sí que la hemos probado y pronto os hablaremos de ella.
Bellogirl envía el pedido mediante correo certificado (tendréis que firmar), marcado como regalo y por un valor inferior al real, en este caso marcó 10 dólares, en lugar de 31,98 $.





I placed my order on March 13th and it came on the 26th. Besides my new I Love BB Light Cream from Peripera, I ordered a blackhead peel-off mask from the brand Holika Holika *review here*. Just like with my first order, the seller included several samples of different products, including two BB Creams we're very eager to try, though we might get some info on all the products first.
I haven't tried the BB Cream yet, but expect a post about it when I do. We did try the mask and will up a post about it soon.
Bellogirl sent the order by registered mail with signed-for delivery, marked as gift and consigning a lower value (in my case, she declared 10 USD instead of the real 31.98 USD).

Una nueva ayuda para mis "proyectos costuriles". - A new help for my 'sewing projects'.

Hola de nuevo:

Aquí estoy con una entrada un poco diferente.

Una de las aficiones que descubrí hace relativamente poco ha sido la costura. Pero no penséis que sé un montón. He aprendido mucho de ver (y de ayudar) a mi madre cuando nos ha hecho alguna prenda. Mi madre tampoco es profesional, pero cuando éramos pequeñas nos hacía prácticamente toda la ropa (salvo los pantalones, con los que nunca se atrevió).

Y otra de las fuentes de mi "sapiencia costuril" ha sido Internet: videos de youtube y blogs sobre este tema. Así que se podría decir que soy un poco autodidacta en esto.

Me he atrevido a hacer mantas para brochas (por cierto, que pronto veréis la *nueva* que he hecho, que reemplazará a la primera que hice y que os enseñé *aquí*), bolsos a partir de unos vaqueros (que os enseñé *aquí*) y alguna cosa más que no he enseñado.

Here I am with a slightly different post.

One of my most recent hobbies is sewing. But don't think that I know a lot about it. I've learnt much from my mother: watching and helping her when she was making a garment for us. My mother is not a professional either, but when we were young, she made almost all our clothes (except for trousers, because she didn't dare).

The other source of my 'sewing wisdom' is Internet: Youtube videos and blogs about this issue. So I could say that I'm self-taught.

I've dared to make us a pair of brushrolls (btw, you'll see the *new* ones soon, which will replace the first ones I made, that I showed you *here*), bags from jeans (which I showed you *here*), and some other things that I haven't showed you.

Para completar mi equipo de costura, me compré hace poco la remalladora (overlock) de Lidl, al módico precio de 129€. Digo lo de módico, porque según tengo entendido, una máquina de similares características en una tienda especializada, puede que no se apee de los 500€.

Y como tampoco la voy a usar a destajo, para mí es más que suficiente.

Por cierto, que mi madre, cuando se enteró de que me la había comprado, se puso la mar de contenta. Teníais que haberla oído decir: "Uy, la de cosas que vamos a hacer". O sea, que se entiende que la máquina es "con derecho a gorroneo", jaja.

Tengo que salsear mucho con ella todavía.

To complete my sewing equipment, I bought the overlock machine available for a short while from Lidl not long ago, for the reasonable price of €129. I say 'reasonable' because, as far as I know, a similar machine at a specialized store here in Spain will hardly be any less than €500.

And as I won't use it everyday, it's more than OK for me.

By the way, when I told my mother that I had bought it, she was so happy that said: 'Wow, we're gonna make lots of things with it'. So the machine is going to be bummed many times, I'm afraid, lol.

Aquí podéis ver mis dos máquinas. Ahora que pienso, creo que las dos costaron exactamente lo mismo. Y como curiosidad, os diré que podría intercambiar los pedales de las dos, porque son iguales, iguales.

La overlock venía enhebrada con los hilos que veis en la primera foto. Incluía también una funda para protegerla, de esas de tela plastificada.

Pero puesto que no la voy a usar todos los días, necesitaba una bolsa para guardarla.

Así que nos recorrimos varias tiendas de bolsos y maletas en busca de la bolsa perfecta para este uso. Pero no tuvimos éxito. Vimos cosas muy bonitas, pero las medidas no eran las adecuadas.

Buscando en internet, marox encontró una bolsa que podría servirnos. ¿Dónde? En la web de Decathlon. Así que, allí que nos fuimos... y la encontramos.

The overlock machine was already threaded with the rolls of thread you can see on the first pic. A protective cover (of those made of plastified fabric) was also included.

But as I'm not using this machine everyday, I thought that I needed a bag to carry it.

So we went to some stores that sell bags and suitcases, looking for the perfect bag for this. But we didn't succeed. We saw very nice things, but they weren't the right size.

Browsing the net, marox found a bag that could be right. Where? At the Decathlon website.

So we went there... and we found it.
