Hola de nuevo, chicas:

Iba a decir que esta es la primera vez que subo un look, pero en realidad es la segunda. El primero que subí fue éste, de cuando compré mi primer producto de MAC, en la tienda del aeropuerto de Madrid-Barajas.

I was about to say that this is the first time I upload a look, but actually is the second one. The first one was this, when I bought my first MAC product, at the Madrid-Barajas airport store.

Pero este que subo ahora sí es el primero hecho por mí, aunque la idea no es mía (ojalá), sino de Gadirroja, a quien va especialmente dedicada esta entrada.

But this one you're about to see is the first one made by myself, althouth the idea is not originally mine (wish it was), but Gadirroja's, whom this post is specially dedicated.

Esta bloguera tan simpática ha dedicado (o está dedicando) una serie de entradas a hacer looks inspirados en los 7 pecados capitales. Si bien todos los que ha hecho hasta ahora me han gustado, el que ha hecho inspirado en la envidia me ha gustado especialmente, porque ha combinado colores que a mí jamás se me hubiera ocurrido combinar.

This lovely blogger has dedicated (or is dedicating) a series of posts for looks inspired on the 7 deadly sins. While I like all the looks she has made so far, I specially like the 'Envy' inspired look, because she has combined colours that I'd never think of using together.

Essence - Show Your Feet '#01 Caribbean Sea' (Pedicura / Pedi)

Hoy vengo con un esmalte prestado, ya que fue una de las compras de Marian hace unos meses en Beautik *aquí*. Lo utilicé hace ya un tiempo para su fin original, es decir, como esmalte para pies. Me temo que en una temporadita no voy a poder pintármelas, buahh.- :(




I'm back with a borrowed lacquer, as this was part of Marian's Beautik haul some months ago *here*. I used it for its intented purpose, i.e. a toe nail polish. I'm afraid I won't be able to polish my toes in a while, sniff.- :(

No recuerdo qué apliqué concretamente, pero creo recordar que no tuve especial problema para aplicarlo.




I don't really remember what I used exactly in this pedi, but I don't recall having a hard time applying it.

Y como el post me ha quedado hipercorto, os dejo con un poco de musiquita. Alegre, como este esmalte.

Regalo sorpresa - Surprise gift.

Marox ha querido darme una sorpresa prenavideña, en la que por cierto, se ha compinchado con Salander para pedirle consejo, y la verdad es que tanto mi hermana como su cómplice han estado muy acertadas.

Pero esta vez no me lo ha traído nuestro querido cartero, porque lo he recibido a través de agencia de transporte. Hizo el pedido a LadyBelleza.

Marox wanted to give me a 'before Christmas surprise', and by the way, she asked Salander for advice, and I must say that both my sister and her accomplice have chosen well.
But this time our beloved postman didn't bring it to me, as shipping was done through a transport agengy. Marox placed the order at a Spanish online beauty store, LadyBelleza.

Me había oído decir muchas veces que mi querido colorete de Chanel, que tengo desde hace 10 años más o menos, ya no pigmentaba. Así que ella tomó nota. Y en el paquetito había... un colorete de Sleek, en el tono "Sunrise", que me ha parecido precioso, y dos labiales de NYX, a los que le había echado el ojo cuando estuvimos en Beautik: el "Lala" y el "Medusa" (preciosos).

She'd often heard me complain of my beloved Chanel blusher poor colour payoff, since I've had that for more than 10 years now. And she took note. The package included... a Sleek blusher in the shade 'Sunrise' which is beyond gorgeous and two NYX lipsticks I liked very much when we went to Beautik. They are 'Lala' and 'Medusa' and are both super pretty.

Fuimos hace unos días a recoger mi regalo (cuando vinieron a traerlo no estábamos en casa), y hoy he hecho fotitos de todo, que ahora os enseño.

A few days ago we went out to pick out my present -we weren't at home when they first came to deliver it- and today I snapped some pics of everything, as you can see below.


De los labiales de NYX siempre se dice que son muy cremosos, pero no todos por igual.
Por mi experiencia, os puedo decir que los colores claros son más cremosos que los oscuros (al menos los que yo tengo).

About NYX round lipsticks, it's always said that they're very creamy, but not all of them in the same way. From my own experience, I can tell you that light shades are more creamy than the dark ones (at least, those that I have).

Comparativa / Side-by-side comparison: Essence '#53 All Access' vs. China Glaze 'Emerald Fitzgerald'

Hace tiempo que no os traigo una comparativa en profundidad. En este caso la hago entre dos esmaltes de mi colección: el de Essence -que os enseñé hace poco en *este* post, lamentablemente hará unos dos años que fue retirado, mientras que el de China Glaze todavía podéis encontrarlo por Internet. El mío lo compré usado (casi nuevo) en Ebay España.

It's been a while since my last side-by-side comparison. This time I'm doing it with two polishes from my own collection: unfortunately the Essence polish that I shared with you *here* is long discontinued -at least two years- whereas the China Glaze lacquer is still available from e-retailers. I got mine (used, almost brand new) from Ebay Spain.

Día 1: Por la noche, aplico una capa de base de Basic. En la izq. una capa del All Access en el pulgar, corazón y meñique, que aplico también en la derecha en los dedos índice y anular -donde al ser más espeso, se me rebela un poco en el lateral.

El de China Glaze lo aplico en la izq en el índice y anular, pero necesita dos capas o al menos capas más gruesas que el de Essence. En la dcha, el de China Glaze en pulgar, corazón y meñique, que de nuevo necesita capas más gruesas para conseguir un acabado uniforme.

Son muy, muy parecidos, aunque quizá el de China Glaze tiene un puntito azul, que hace que el tono verde del de Essence sea más intenso.

Day 1: At night, I apply one coat of my Basic basecoat. One coat of All Access in my left thumb, middle and pinky, also applied in my right index and ring fingers – I did have some problems on the side with it being thicker.

China Glaze is applied therefore onto my left index and ring fingers, but it takes two coats or at least thicker coats than the Essence. On the right hand, it is applied onto my thumb, middle and pinky, again needing thicker coats to get rid of bald spots.

These are very, very similar, though the CG one has blue undertones making the green in the Essence polish stand out more.

Día 4: Está aguantando bastante bien, ya que no llevo SV. El día anterior tocó mañana de limpieza y tengo algún pequeño desconchón en las uñas de la mano derecha, pero no se notan demasiado. Me lo quito ese día.

Day 4: This is holding up quite well, as I'm not wearing SV. After a house cleaning session the day before, my right hand shows some minor chipping, but not very noticeable. Took it off on Day 4.

UDLS/NOTW: Essence 'Gold Old Buffy' (Vampire's Love).

El lunes fui a Bustillo, porque ya tenían la edición limitada de Essence "Vampire's Love". En otros blogs he visto todo lo que incluía, y lo que más me llamó la atención fue este esmalte que hoy os enseño.

I went to Bustillo on Monday, because they already have the 'Vampire's Love' LE from Essence on sale. I saw in other blogs all the products it included, and the thing which got my attention the most was this polish I'm showing you now.

Esta vez no voy a intentar describir el color, aunque me recuerda al oro viejo.

I'm not trying to describe the shade this time, though it reminds me of old gold.



Primer día: Aplico una capa de Nail Envy de OPI (la verdad es que me está yendo muy bien para mis uñas capeadas, así que: Gracias, María). Después, una capa gruesa de este esmalte, de muy buena cobertura, por cierto, y como siempre, una capa de Seche Vite encima.

First day: I apply one coat of Nail Envy from OPI (which is helping me with my flaking nails, so Thanks María for that). After that, a thick coat of this polish, with a great coverage, btw, and Seche Vite on top, as usual.

Segundo día: Fotos.

Second day: Pics.

Tercer día: Todavía perfecto, incluso después de lavarme el pelo. Vamos a ver cuánto aguantan.

Third day: Still perfect, even after a hair wash. Let's see how long they last.

Quinto día: De repente veo un gran desconchón en el índice de la mano derecha, y como es imposible de camuflar, decido despintármelas.

Fifth day: Suddenly I see (this reminds me of a song) a big chipping on the index of my right hand, and as it's impossible to hide, I decide to remove the polish.


Para terminar, me gustaría enseñaros algo que no tiene que ver con potis, pero sí con fotografía. Es un regalo anticipado de Navidad por parte de marox, que pidió en eBay.
Se trata de esta caja de luz, de las que se usan para hacer fotografías sin preocuparnos por el fondo que saldrá en la foto, pues éste será de un color uniforme, con lo que no va a distraer nuestra atención. Incluye también telas para el fondo en blanco, negro, rojo y azul.

Finally, I'd like to show you something that has nothing to do with make-up, but with photography. It's an early Christmas gift from marox, which she ordered from eBay. It's this light box or soft tent, one of those used to take photos without worrying about the background, as this one will be in one colour, so as not to distract our attention. These come with background pieces of fabric in white, black, red and blue.

Todavía estoy familiarizándome con ella, así que cualquier consejo que podáis darme será bienvenido.

I'm still getting used to it, so any advice you can give me on the subject will be very welcome.

Libros / Books: "La reina del Sur", de Arturo Pérez Reverte

Hoy os presento un libro que leí hace ya meses, pero del que no os había hablado en críticas literarias anteriores. Lo compré en nuestro viaje a *Madrid*, en un puestecillo de libros que había dentro del C.C. Príncipe Pío mientras esperábamos a Salander.

Today I'd like to review a book I read some months ago but that for some reason had not made it into any of my earlier book reviews. I got this when we went to *Madrid* at a small stall within the Príncipe Pío Mall, while we were waiting to meet Salander.

"La Reina del Sur", del superventas Arturo Pérez Reverte se publicó en el 2002, si bien la serie de televisión basada en esta novela que pudimos disfrutar en España (en su versión reducida de 12 episodios que emitió Antena 3) y en Latinoamérica (en una telenovela de 63 episodios emitida por Telemundo) hizo que volviera a estar de actualidad.

'The Queen of the South', written by the Spanish best-selling novelist and former war correspondent Arturo Pérez Reverte in 2002 was in the spotlight again earlier this year due to the broadcast of the TV series based on this novel. In Spain we had a much shorter 12-episode-long series broadcasted by Antena 3, as opposed to the 63-episode-long telenovela broadcasted by Telemundo for Latin America. I read the novel in the original Spanish.

"La Reina del Sur" cuenta la historia ficticia de Teresa Mendoza, una joven mejicana de Culiacán, que se ve obligada a huir a España tras el asesinato de su pareja, El Güero, a manos del cártel del narcotráfico para el que trabajaba como piloto de avionetas. Allí, a pesar de sus esfuerzos por llevar una vida tranquila, otro hombre y otras personas que aparecen en su vida vuelven a meterla en el mundo del narcotráfico, dentro del que ya no tendrá un papel meramente secundario sino protagonista destacado.

'The Queen of the South' tells the fictional story of Teresa Mendoza, a young woman from Culiacán, Mexico who's forced to flee to Spain after the murder of her man, El Güero, at the hands of the drug cartel he worked for as a pilot. Despite her initial attempts to keep a low profile away from trouble, she'll meet a man and other people who will throw her into the drug world again, but not as a mere bystander anymore. This time she'll be in the middle of it all and playing a starring role.

Al principio la lectura me costó un poco, ya que Reverte emplea la variedad mejicana al principio de la historia, cuando nos habla de la vida de Teresa y de El Güero en Culiacán, pero una vez te acostumbras, lo cierto es que aporta frescura y credibilidad a la historia, además de un "sabor local". Leí el libro al tiempo que se emitía la serie de televisión, por lo que resultaba imposible no hacer comparaciones entre el original y la adaptación televisiva.

It was a bit hard to read at first, as in the original Spanish Reverte uses the Mexican speech variety and Mexican slang when introducing the main characters Teresa and El Güero and their life in Culiacán. But once you get used to it, it does give the novel a certain credibility and adds some 'local flavour' to it. I read the novel at the same time the TV version was being broadcasted here, so I couldn't help but make comparisons between the original and the small screen adaptation.

Reverte consigue que te metas en el mundo de Teresa, especialmente durante las persecuciones de la patrulla de Vigilancia Aduanera. Sin embargo, cuando se centraba en el trabajo periodístico del reportero que está recopilando las distintas piezas que conforman la vida de Teresa, la lectura se me hizo más aburrida.

Reverte really makes you get into the world of Teresa, particularly during the drug runs by the Spanish Vigilancia Aduanera coastguard patrol. The read turned a bit more boring when he follows the journalistic work of the reporter who's trying to put all the pieces in Teresa's life together for the book he's writing.

¿Habéis leído este libro? ¿O quizá vistéis la serie? Personalmente, a mí me gustó mucho, especialmente el papelón de Kate del Castillo como Teresa Mendoza. Os recomiendo "Bajo la misma luna", si queréis ver algún otro trabajo de esta actriz.

Recién llegado desde Tailandia - Just arrived from Thailand.

Hace pocos días, bajamos al buzón para ver si teníamos algo en el correo, cuando nos encontramos a nuestro queridísimo cartero, que traía algo para nosotras (en este caso para marox), así que ya no le hicimos subir. Por una vez...
Hasta la fecha, es el último paquete que hemos recibido, pero en los últimos días hemos pedido un par de cosillas más (lo que quiere decir que le daremos más trabajo a nuestro cartero).

A few days ago, we went down to check our mailbox, when we met our beloved postman, who brought something for us (for marox, to be exact), so we didn't make him go upstairs for a change. So far, this is the latest package we have received, but we've ordered a couple of things more on the last few days (which means that our postman will have more work).

Pues bien, como veis es un desodorante de piedra alumbre. El que hemos estado usando empezaba a moverse peligrosamente dentro del envase, lo que quiere decir que podría caerse y romperse en mil pedazos. Así que antes de que ocurriera esto, decidimos sustituirlo por uno nuevo. Pero el antiguo no lo vamos a tirar. Ya sabéis que nosotras aprovechamos todo.

OK, as you can see it's an alum stone deodorant. The one we've been using started to break loose from its base, which means that it could fall down and break into a thousand pieces. So before this happens, we decided to buy a new one. But we're not throwing the old one away. As you already know, we make use of everything.

Una de las cosas que más nos ha gustado de este desodorante es que tiene una fragancia muy suave; huele como a crema (cosmética). Otra de las cosas que más nos ha gustado es la parte posterior del envase. La "empuñadura", por así decirlo, tiene tacto como de goma, lo que quiere decir que no se va a resbalar de las manos. Además, no es hueca por la parte de atrás, como en el otro, que permitía que entrara el agua o el vapor de la ducha y fuera deshaciendo la piedra, que creo que es lo que ha ocurrido.




One of the things we like the most about this deodorant is its soft fragrance; it smells like cosmetic cream. Another thing we like is the back part of the container. The grip has a rubbery feeling, which means that it won't slid down the hands easily. Besides, the back part is not hollow, like in the other one, so it won't let the water or steam in and melt the stone, as I think it happened.

¡Ahí va! Casi se me olvida lo más importante: dónde lo consiguió marox. Lo compró en eBay a *este* vendedor y le costó 6,26$, con gastos de envío gratis (a día de hoy, serían 4,63€)

Oops! I almost forgot the most important thing: where did marox get it? She ordered it from *this seller* on eBay and cost $6.26 with free shipping (that's €4.63 as of today).
