Hoy me gustaría compartir con vosotras una receta para hacer un quitaesmalte hidratante, que encontré (para no mentir, la encontró marox) en este blog.

Today I'd like to share with you a recipe to make a moisturizing nail polish remover, which I found (actually marox did, to be honest) on this blog.
Si queréis hacer esta receta, necesitaréis:
*Acetona pura.
*Glicerina.
*Agua.
If you want to practice this recipe, you'll need:
*Pure acetone.
*Glycerin.
*Water.
Se vierte la acetona pura en un recipiente, y después se añade un poco de glicerina: 1-2 cucharadas soperas de glicerina por cada 200 ml de acetona.
Como la glicerina es más densa que la acetona, se irá al fondo del recipiente, y aunque mezclemos bien, al rato tenderá a separarse.
Para evitarlo, añadiremos un poco de agua. ¿Por qué? Pues porque tanto la glicerina como la acetona son solubles en agua.
Se mezcla de nuevo y... ya tenemos nuestro quitaesmalte hidratante.
Pour the pure acetone on a container, and then add a bit of glycerin: 1-2 tablespoons of glycerin per each 200 ml of acetone. As glycerin is more dense than acetone, it will sink to the bottom of the bottle, and even mixing it well, it will tend to separate in a few minutes. To avoid it, just add a bit of water. Why? Because both glycerin and acetone are water-soluble. Mix again and... we have our moisturizing nail polish remover ready to go.
En mi caso, lo que he hecho ha sido adaptar un poco esta receta a lo que ya tenía en casa.
Prácticamente acababa de comprar un quitaesmalte sin acetona de Basic, así que no iba a comprar acetona pura para hacer esta receta.
Pues bien, lo que he hecho ha sido simplemente añadir un poco de glicerina al quitaesmalte, en la misma proporción de la receta que veis arriba. Como este quitaesmalte ya lleva agua en su composición, no he tenido que añadir más.
I have adapted this recipe to the things I had before. I had just bought an acetone-free polish remover from Basic, so I was not going to buy pure acetone to make this recipe. Well, what I did was just add a little bit of glycerin to my polish remover, in the same proportion as in the recipe mentioned above. As this remover already contains water as an ingredient, I did not have to add more.
¿Cuál ha sido el resultado en mis uñas? Pues la verdad es que las tengo más hidratadas que cuando utilizaba el quitaesmalte en su fórmula original, que me las dejaba algo resecas. Seguiré aplicando mi adaptación de esta receta, porque funciona. ¡Qué descubrimiento!
How did it work on my nails? Well, now they're really more moisturized than when I used my polish remover on its original, more drying formula. I'll stick to this adapted-recipe, because it works. What a discovery!

Libros / Books: 'Before I die' by Jenny Downham
Hoy traigo de nuevo una reseña de libros. El libro que os traigo estaba en una lista de recomendaciones literarias de un periódico inglés. Tengo entendido que se está rodando una versión cinematográfica con Dakota Fanning.

I'm back with another book review. The one I'm bringing you today was included on a list of 50 books worth reading by a British newspaper. I understand a film version is in the works, starring Dakota Fanning.
Como en anteriores ocasiones, he leído el original en inglés. Si queréis leerlo en español, el título es "Antes de morirme". Por una vez, y al contrario de lo que sucediera con la película 'Dying Young' protagonizada por Julia Roberts y Campbell Scott que en España se cambió a "Elegir un amor", que sonaba mucho más comercial y menos lacrimógena.
El libro narra la historia de Tessa, una adolescente de 16 años que padece leucemia desde que tenía 12 años. Tessa crea una lista de cosas que quiere completar antes de su muerte, incluyendo el sexo, las drogas y la delincuencia. El libro también sigue los altibajos de la relación de los padres de Tessa y con su mejor amiga Zoey, que también pasa por una situación complicada en su vida. Además, podremos observar los cambios de humor de Tessa y algunos de los momentos más duros de su vida, pero también los más hermosos.
As before, I've read the original English version. In Spanish, they didn't play around with the title to make it more commercial and less gloomy and tear-jerker -as they did with the 'Dying Young' film starring Julia Roberts and Campbell Scott, named 'Choosing a Love' in Spain-. The novel tells the story of Tessa, a terminally ill 16-year-old girl who's been struggling with leukemia since she was 12. Tessa has compiled a list of things she wants to do before she dies, which much to her family's distress, includes sex, drugs and crime. The book also follows the ups and downs in her parents' relationship and with her best friend Zoey, who's also going through some hard times of her own. We also get a glimpse of Tessa's swinging moods, as well as some of the hardest times in her life, but also of some of the most special ones.
Y a la vez que recomiendo esta lectura, os aconsejo que tengáis al lado un buen paquete de Kleenex, porque os van a hacer falta. Aunque duro -el final se hace sofocante cuanto menos- es uno de esos libros que te atrapan página a página y que no puedes parar de leer. Creo que me lo ventilé en tres días. Similar a "Paula" de Isabel Allende, con el que me ocurrió algo similar y aquél creo que tardé poco más de un día -festivo- en leerlo en plan maratoniano.
And I cannot help but strongly recommend you to keep a large box of Kleenex nearby, because you're going to need them. It was a tough -I was struggling for breath at the end, to say the least- but very engrossing read, page after page, and it was hard to put it down at the end of the day. I think I finished it off in three days. Kind of like 'Paula' by Isabel Allende to me, a read I think I polished off in a little more than a day -off- in a readathon of sorts.

Aquí vengo otra vez con otra manicura, esta vez con el esmalte que compré de la edición limitada de Essence "Urban Messages", y que ahora que recuerdo, no os lo enseñé en una entrada. Así que he pensado que podía hacer una especie de 2x1.

Here I am again with another mani, this time with the polish I bought from the Essence LE 'Urban Messages', which, by the way, I didn't show you on a post. So I've thought of doing some kind of a '2in1'.
El primer día aplico una capa de gel de calcio de Basic (Schlecker), que suelo utilizar cuando después me voy a aplicar un esmalte claro. La dejo secar, y luego aplico dos capas finas de este esmalte. No aplico Seche Vite después, porque tengo algo pensado para el día siguiente.
The first day I apply one coat of the calcium gel from Basic (Schlecker), which I often use when I'm going to apply a polish in a light shade. I let it dry, and then apply two thin coats of this nail polish. I don't apply Seche Vite now, because I've got something in mind for the following day.
Segundo día: He decidido que ya va siendo hora de estrenar el kit para hacerme una estampación. Mi primera estampación. Utilicé la placa que venía en el kit, y el esmalte negro para estampar de Essence. No sé qué pensaréis, pero creo que para ser la primera estampación no está mal.
Después de la estampación, ahora sí aplico Seche Vite.
Second day: I've decided it's time to use the stampy set on myself for the first time. I used the stampy plate that comes with the set, and the stampy polish from Essence in black. I don't know what you think, but in my opinion it's not too bad for a first try. After stamping, I do apply Seche Vite.

Quinto día: las uñas de la mano izquierda siguen en perfectas condiciones (como casi siempre que me las pinto), mientras que en el dedo índice de la mano derecha hay un pequeño desconchón. Las demás están aguantando muy bien.
Fifth day: my left hand nails are in perfect condition (as almost everytime I polish them); however, there's a little chipping on my right index finger. The rest of the nails of my right hand remains the same as the left hand ones.
Me ha gustado cómo queda la estampación sobre esmaltes claros, así que creo que no será la última que haga. Además, tengo que dar uso a todas las placas que tengo.
I like the way the stamping looks over light shades, so I think it won't be the last one I'll ever do. Besides, I must use all the plates I have.

UDLS / NOTW: Claire's - 74458 Y 36/09
Hoy me gustaría enseñaros uno de los esmaltes que Marian sacó en su *última* entrega de los "Parecidos Razonables". Se trata de un esmalte que compré en una de esas promociones en las que ponen una serie de artículos a 1€. Lo lucí hace ya algunas semanas.
I'd like you to meet one of the polishes Marian shared with you in her *latest* 'Reasonable Lookalikes' series. I bought this polish on one of those sales Claire's has where they have many items discounted at just 1 EUR. I sported this a few weeks ago.
Por lo general, los esmaltes de Claire's no me entusiasman. Suelen ser bastante líquidos y no muy cubrientes, lo que no quiere decir que haya otros tonos como *éste* que sí que merecen la pena.
Generally speaking, I'm not very fond of Claire's lacquers. They're usually pretty liquidy and quite sheer, but that does not necessarily mean that you can't find others *here* that are really worth it.
Día 1: Por la noche, aplico una capa de base de Basic (Schlecker), seguida de 2/3 capas gruesas de este esmalte necesarias para conseguir una cobertura medianamente aceptable. Aplico SV y en algunas uñas, parece que no congenian muy bien. Imagino que se deba a que no me queda mucho.
Day 1: At night, I apply a coat of my Basic basecoat from Schlecker, followed by 2 to 3 thick ones of this, the minimum required to get a decent coverage out of a polish as sheer as this. I apply SV and it seems a couple of nails don't like this very much. I guess this is due to the fact that I'm running out of SV.
Día 2 : Tras pasar el día emulando a los de Bricomanía, el esmalte del pulgar derecho tiene un enoorme desconchón y las puntas del resto de uñas de esa misma mano también están un poco rozadas.
Day 2: After spending the day playing the DIY gal, my right thumbnail has a MAJOR chip and the rest of nails in that hand show some damage too.
Día 4: Me lo quito por la mañana, antes de lavarme el pelo.
Day 4: I took this off in the morning, shortly before washing my hair.

En las fotos, llevo una capa de la base de P2. Aplico una capa generosa de este esmalte -dos en los dedos gordos, aunque la segunda muy finita. No aplico topcoat, pero secó bastante rápido.
Pasados unos días, hice un conato de estampación con una de las placas de Sarah. Digo conato porque el Midnight Kiss de China Glaze no es que sea la caña para estampar precisamente y el diseño apenas se notaba. Necesito un esmalte dorado que estampe en condiciones. A ver si me hago con uno con un poticamelleo que tengo "cocinando".
In the pictures, I have a coat of my P2 basecoat. I applied a generous one of this lacquer -two in the big toes, though the second was very thin. No topcoat, but drying time was quite fast anyway.
A few days later I had a not very successful attempt at stamping over this, using one of the plates Sarah kindly sent us in our swap. 'Attempt' is the word, as the fauxnading using Midnight Kiss from China Glaze was neither very crisp nor noticeable. I really need a proper stamping polish in gold. No estoy del todo segura de que la referencia que indico sea la correcta, pero al igual que Claire's en España, estos esmaltes no llevan un nombre sino un número -cosa que odio.
No tengo idea de dónde más se pueda encontrar esta marca, aparte de esa droguería de Amsterdam.
I'm not all quite sure the ref. number I'm giving you is the right one, as like Claire's in Spain, these polishes don't have names but numbers -which I hate.
I have no idea where else -apart from this drugstore in Amsterdam- this brand can be found.
